Hard to believe itโ€™s April already ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in๐Ÿ˜Š What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Thanks @Crazzzycat amd I don't feel told off. I was just going in how she has been her whole life and what dh has said. She has hugged me twice in all my life when I have been sad. She hasn't liked to be touched from when she was small really. She also has an underlying medical condition which I think might be more to do with being touched than any autism diagnosis now I come to think of it.

I would rather she didn't have any difficulties as life is hard enough but the issue is the not knowing. Have been told she is and she isn't so it is hard to know how to offer help and now we have had these several suicide attempts and years of being mentally unwell and her not wanting help...the mental health team rang this morning and again she refused to talk to them. She has said our parenting is why she attempted suicide but won't say what we have done that is wrong or bad etc.

Eesha · 29/04/2022 20:25

Hi all,

My weight isn't moving. I've upped my steps to 15k a day from 10k. I eat a piece of frittata for breakfast, then dinner a home made curry in a small bowl. I used to eat much more. I eat an avocado a day. Am I just maintaining calories? I'm 93kg, 5ft 6. If I'm so massive, why is it not moving after these changes?

SanFranBear · 29/04/2022 20:58

I'm no expert, Eesha, buy perhaps try eating a little more - it doesn't sound like you're eating much at all. It sounds counter-intuitive but could be worth a shot? Do you know roughly how many calories you're eating at the moment? You could try upping it by 2/300 and see how you go?

I love you kitkats, Holbein and they have excellent names - especially Gomez!

Escaped out again this afternoon and goodness, Spring has definitely sprung! So many babies out in the fields (the foals were my favourites although the little calves were also adorable) and oodles of bluebells. Quiet night tonight after all which suits me actually so will head bedwards shortly!

SunshineCake · 29/04/2022 21:52

@SanFranBear is right @Eesha if you eat too little you won't lose weight. I was doing diet chef and got fed up with the food so had a week where I did what I wanted and lost 5lbs. Not losing at the moment as my head is all over the place but it definitely reads like you aren't eating enough.

Eesha · 29/04/2022 22:13

Hi @SanFranBear @SunshineCake , thanks for replying. What do you think u should add to my meals? I make the frittata with eggs, mushrooms, spinach and goats cheese. I then eat it with an avocado. Should I eat another lunchtime meal even if not hungry? I feel to do anything to lose weight now. My legs kill me after all this walking and I'm so frustrated that I'm not losing anything.

SunshineCake · 30/04/2022 07:03

@Eesha I can't do calorie counting so I am doing intermittent fasting and running for exercise. I eat in a set window and if I eat outside of that I don't lose anything and often put weight on. I don't think you should eat if you aren't hungry as that goes against your natural hunger. I add salad or extra vegetables to meals if there isn't enough main bits. Someone who knows what they are talking about will be along soon to help I'm sure.

Back to the weight loss. Or not ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

ended the month 1.5lb up on the start of the month. Plan for May is to drink more water eat less chocolate and crisps and see where that gets me. I miss fasting but itโ€™s awkward with working random shifts.

Crazzzycat · 30/04/2022 10:28

I love your cats @HouseofHolbein . Not sure if theyโ€™re quite feeling the hats, but they do look cute ๐Ÿ˜‚

@Eesha weightloss can be so unpredictable. Am I right that you had a reasonable loss over the last few weeks? Itโ€™s not unusual to lose one week and then nothing the next, so if thatโ€™s the case, donโ€™t worry too much about it. If you keep doing what you were doing, things should start shifting again.

Having said that, I too would question if you are eating enough. If you eat the same thing every day, could you work out roughly how many calories that is? Itโ€™s a bit difficult for us to guess, as a slice of frittata could be big or small, full of cheese and oil/butter or have very little of those things.

Also, if your legs are hurting a lot from exercise, itโ€™s possible that you are retaining more water than usual. When you exercise, you end up with lots of tiny tears in your muscles (thatโ€™s the bit that hurts!) and your body will use water to cushion those muscles. That can apparently add quite a bit of weight, but itโ€™s just water, not fat.

Anyway, I am finishing April on the tiniest loss so far - 0.2 kg! A loss is a loss though ๐Ÿ˜€

Crazzzycat · 30/04/2022 10:51

I forgot to mention my biggest NSV of the month! The size 10 trousers I ordered earlier this week have arrived and...I can actually do them up!

They are unfortunately about 2 inches too short for me, so theyโ€™ll have to go back, but it was a nice boost ๐Ÿ˜Š

8stone13 · 30/04/2022 11:40

Last day of April so my last weight check-in here:

Sat 30th April - 9s 3 & 3/4lb
BMI 21.5
BF 24.2

Tiny 0.10 increase on body fat but otherwise stable. I'm not eating much & not losing though ๐Ÿค” Going to bed hungry & waking up hungry & still no shift. Still can't get over eating tons in London last month & losing weight then eating far far less when there this month, being visibly smaller & yet putting on this pesky 2lb that I can get shot of!

Ah well, I shall keep going through May - my favourite month of the year. See you all on the other thread ๐Ÿ™‚

Eesha · 30/04/2022 11:40

@Crazzzycat I've lost 5.7lbs in a month now but just seems so slow when I've overhauled myself!

SanFranBear · 30/04/2022 15:37

Ahem.. yes, back to weight loss chat!

I'm not sure what to suggest, Eesha - there are so many variables. Perhaps try eating the fritatta later so you slot into the 16:8 pattern? But you've done really well with your loss and as Crazzzycat says, sometimes you get stuck but persevering will see it suddenly drop. I hope you don't get disheartened though as its awful when it feels like you're doing everything and yet nothing happens!

Well done on your NSV, Crazzzycat - shame they were too short but a size 10 is fantastic. I don't feel like I've gone down even one dress size but I think it's more that my clothes are now comfortable whereas before, I was cramming myself in when they were far too small!

Can't believe we're May tomorrow but think I will jump on the scales in the morning so I can get a nice start of month View and go from there (kind of expecting it to be up from Friday as had a carb-heavy dinner last night and went out for lunch today!)

One last kitty spam - my little boy, having a stretch beside me, in the sun!

Hi all. Batteries in the scales ready for tomorrow.

Well done to all of you who have made changes even if the scales aren't, I'm sure it's benefitting your health.

Flowers111 · 30/04/2022 19:39

Hi everyone, wonder has anyone just gained weight since the pandemic ? I happened across google photos today (you know how they like to surprises you with heart wrenching montages when you least expect it ๐Ÿคฃ), and omg March 2020 I was a different women, by July (from photo) I remember buying a dress that was about 2 sizes up, and that has since gone to charity as too small. I'm wondering what it was that piled it on like that.
I think perhaps obv being at home no exercise more wine, but, I think it was clearly over eating to hide depression or something.
Also anyone think their other half has an issue with the weight unspoken ? I think so.
If I raise it I hear "oh don't be silly" but actions speak louder than words and sometimes I genuinely think he takes bad photos of me on purpose.
Anyway - upwards and onwards ๐Ÿ˜

Flowers111 · 30/04/2022 19:48

Also can anyone recommend a decent new scales and do they really measure body fat (and how) lol

SanFranBear · 30/04/2022 20:37

Interesting pandemic thoughts, Flower and definitely for me - I've only just got to my pre-pandemic weight because I piled on 2 stone over that first 12 months which is crazy! That said, I rarely drink now or before but hit it hard when we were stuck indoors. I haven't drank like that since I was early 20s and fully believe that's where it mostly came from. I then put another stone on over the next 9 months due to pure overeating. I did have a big dip in my mental health at the start of 2021 and think that certainly contributed but it's scary really just how quick I ballooned.

I don't have a DP so not sure about that but it must make it even harder if you don't feel you have the support from your nearest and dearest. Although I could kind of see it happening with my best friend. When I saw her a couple of weeks back she was definitely saying 'you don't need to loose much more' and I had to spell it out that I am still clinically obese, not overweight, obese and am still at least a stone off that milestone. So to get into 'healthy weight', I need to keep going. I know she struggles with her weight even though she is a lot smaller than me so perhaps it's linked to the whole 'fat friend' thing - a role I've played almost our entire friendship and certainly for the last 20 years of it. She is the absolute best person though and would be horrified at me analysing it but will be interesting to see how she copes if I was able to actually get to my ultimate goal.

Anyways - enough waffling! Have stayed fairly light this evening so hoping to STS for my May weigh in.. need to think what I'm aiming for next month ๐Ÿค”

SanFranBear · 30/04/2022 20:40

Oh and sorry - I don't have a very flash set of scales although they are digital. Probably bought off Ebay as that's where I buy everything but they would have been cheap. Don't think I want to know my body fat etc...

Flowers111 · 01/05/2022 14:04

Yeah I suppose he's supportive in ways ie once I start losing it he'll comment that I'm losing it.
But he won't really help me in advance he is firmly a feeder. If he actually ever said you're putting on weight and need to lose it I probably would but he's probably programmed never to comment at this stage !
Definitely on the booze - that I think is the main culprit for me. I might do 30 days AF that should help.
I said to him over the weekend (he has to listen to my weight monologues) I need to start eating like a skinny person. Years ago when I was slim and very committed to it I remember being on holidays and I would have eg fruit for breakfast. That wouldn't even occur to me now as i choose a range of danishes ๐Ÿคฃ that sort of thing. Or if I was in a fast food place with the kids (visits which I limit anyway to once a month), i wouldn't have anything only a Diet Coke. Now I'd have chips etc. - skinny people wouldn't.
It's the only way to really be slim - you just can't eat everything and then expect it to be ok.
I'd say I'm clinically obese too I think my BMI is 28/29.
My scales are Salter digital but old now and I think it retains the last weight recorded unless you step on it twice in a row ๐Ÿ˜‚
