Hard to believe itโ€™s April already ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in๐Ÿ˜Š What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@Crazzzycat Mine are back to red now, I think it was a glitch with the upgrade. I'm on iPhone & Mac & my screen doesn't appear as you describe! A good friend used to work in tech for Mumsnet so I might ask her just in case she's got more info ๐Ÿ˜€

SanFranBear · 20/04/2022 10:48

I'm really cross as I subscribe to Premium so I don't get all the ads.. and somehow I'm unsubscribed this morning and am drowning in bloody ads. I don't know how anyone uses this site like this.

Hopefully MNHQ see my thread in Site Stuff or aren't too busy to respond to my email as this is unbearable. I'm just worried that I'll be paying twice if I register again and whilst it's only ยฃ5 a month, life is expensive at the moment ๐Ÿ™

SunshineCake1 · 20/04/2022 11:02

Thank you @TheRealHousewife and @ginsparkles . I have reverted back to my original name now I know how to do it but I expect I will jump between the two as I keep forgetting.

The hospital are now refusing to discharge DD until seen takes meds. The meds she has refused for a week and will not take plus a doctor has said they won't help HmmAngry.

SunshineCake · 20/04/2022 11:11

I have three PMs I can't access so if you've sent one I am not ignoring you. I can't see them yet Hmm.

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 20/04/2022 13:52

Ridiculous busy day here, so just popping my head round to say thinking of you @SunshineCake1

fallfallfall · 20/04/2022 15:38

@SunshineCake1 , to me that sounds encouraging and yes they should at the very least try meds.

Eesha · 20/04/2022 17:25

I'm mortified people. I thought I'd been losing a lot of weight but looks like my electronic scales are wrong and I'm actually at my original 95kg having thought I was 89. I feel so upset as I've been really trying to cut down portions and eat better.

SunshineCake · 20/04/2022 17:40

Not encouraging when she has told them numerous times she does not want the drugs, she hasn't taken them at all and the nurse said she can't leave until she takes them. Do you want to bet on it she said to dd?Angry. A psychiatrist has already said medication isn't right for DD.

the staff ate the food I left her and locked her out of her room. They also didn't search her bag properly and she has cut herself badly this morning. Not that they said a word about it.

her discharge note has the wrong name, wrong address, wrong, city, wrong date of discharge never mind time.

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/04/2022 17:41

I wrote a long chatty post, only for it to disappear into thin air just as I press post. In a nutshell, I braved the scales this morning and am 1 lb down from last week, so now 11 6 instead of 11 7. So 4lb to loose to get back to where I was. Then another 4 to reach goal 10 10.

Gin - I hear you on lacking the motivation, extra hard for you recovering from covid etc. Keep posting on here, and hopefully you'll wake up one morning all bright and full of determination again ; )

Don't be mortified Eesha. Nothing gained from being hard on yourself. Unfortunately to loose it takes more than simply cutting down and eating better (as I've learned many a time). post your food if it helps?

Sunshine - no words of wisdom. Sending big hugs your way.

Hope you feel better soon TheRealHousewife. You were poorly not too long ago too. Take good care of yourself.

Sorry to those I haven't tagged - keep up the good food choices, and exercise!

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/04/2022 17:44

Crosspost - so sorry Sunshine that your DD's care has been so bad. Poor girl. And so awful for you, your DH & DS's. Are there any charity's that can help? I went to a fundraiser of one a few years ago. I'll see if I can find the name for you.

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/04/2022 17:48

@SunshineCake - charity is called Papyrus . There must be more.

SunshineCake · 20/04/2022 18:26

Thank you @buzzofthebumblebee we did speak to them but they didn't really help much.

I'm eating chocolate biscuits drinking a snowball and wondering what hell will come next

fallfallfall · 20/04/2022 18:33

@SunshineCake1 , my mouth is gaping wide open. i'm very very angry to read this update. virtual handhold coming your way.

fallfallfall · 20/04/2022 18:37

@Eesha , okay check the new scales using a sack of flour or sugar or what ever you have that's substantial and comes weighted.
if indeed your old scales were off by 5kg know your starting weight was also off.
think positive you can do this but you do need accurate info (which includes accurate food scales and measuring spoons etc.).

SanFranBear · 20/04/2022 19:33

Oh, Sunshine - you are going through the wringer at the moment. I am also shocked by the - lack of - medical care your DD is receiving and I hope it improves and they actually get a discharge plan in place which will support her and that she'll follow (can't find flowers in the new emoji list but know that I'm thinking of you!)

I managed a lovely, mind-clearing 14.5k hike out in the forest - lots of sun and ponies so am home now, cooking up some mussels (hope I don't poison myself!) I'll probably be over my daily calories limit as I did get a sticky bun at the shop but obviously have an awful lot of exercise calories so not too worried. I think I'll likely either be slightly up or have maintained this week anyway after my recent excesses - all worth it though.

Look after yourself, RealHousewife and feel better soon!

Eesha · 21/04/2022 06:29

@buzzofthebumblebee I have 3 stone to lose sadly. I think I must be clueless with food as I've made changes with portion sizes and I didn't think I eat too badly but I still am 95kg, 5ft 6 .

Breakfast : homemade frittata (2eggs, 2 slices bacon, goats cheese, spinach)
No lunch
Dinner : 2 chicken thighs, 1/2 sliced potato, mixed veg (like a homemade garlic chicken stew)

I have the odd fruit smoothie but can stop these. 1L water a day, 13k steps

I'm mid 40s, underactive thyroid which I'm medicated for, plus bit low after a breakup. I've always been around the 14 stone mark but always desperate to get to 12.5 or 13

TheRealHousewife · 21/04/2022 09:32

Good Morning Everyone

Thank you for the well wishes. Feeling a bit more human.

A warm welcome to the thread @Eesha (and other new members) Sorry to hear of your recent break up. Emotions/feelings/state of mind are so entwined with food/losing/gaining etc. Youโ€™re walking plenty which is great exercise. Do you weigh/log food? During the times I take my eye of the ball I gain. Itโ€™s surprising how much it all adds up. When I log/weigh out portions etc I can maintain or even lose a little. I know not everyone has time or inclination to do this but it can help (even for a short time) to see where calories are coming from. I also sympathise about thyroid issues which can also make weight loss tough. With tweaks here and there Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll find what works for you.

Iโ€™m sure there are other new members but I canโ€™t scroll back far enough to see your posts. Sorry.

@SanFranBear Im in love with where you live ๐Ÿ˜. Sorry if Iโ€™ve missed it but where did you say you lived (inbox if you want to remain private) Iโ€™ve always said my perfect place would be between the hills and the sea ๐ŸŒŠ. Well done on your walk ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘.

@buzzofthebumblebee I lost a longish post yesterday but didnโ€™t have time to re write. The update is frustrating to say the least.

Well done to all who are still on it and losing ๐Ÿ‘ and well done to those who are struggling but still going๐Ÿ‘

May I ask, is the typing space 1.5 inch high for everyone? Iโ€™m struggling with the new format.

Menu
Meal 1 - Miso, ginger, chilli, spring onion soup with rice noodles.
Meal 2 - Parmesan and boiled egg salad with avocado oil & white condiment dressing.
Tea, coffee, water.

Enjoy your day.

Iโ€™m not loving the new version of MN either @TheRealHousewife. My typing space is tiny too, plus the site refreshes every couple of minutes, which is when I lose my posts ๐Ÿ˜

So, Iโ€™m going to have to keep it short! @Eesha it sounds like youโ€™re doing great on the diet and exercise front. If your old scales showed a loss, itโ€™s highly likely that you did have an actual loss. Itโ€™s just that your new scales are calibrated a little bit differently, which is why they show a different number to your old ones. Not sure if that makes sense, but what Iโ€™m trying to say is, try not to be disheartened just yet! Keep doing what youโ€™re doing and you should be fine ๐Ÿ™‚

Crazzzycat · 21/04/2022 09:53

@Eesha apologies if I misunderstood your post. I thought you were weighing yourself on different scales, but having reread your post, Iโ€™m not sure if that was what you were actually saying

Eesha · 21/04/2022 10:19

@Crazzzycat Hey! Essentially I used these electronic scales where I seemed to drop from around the 94kg to 89kg over a month and I was thrilled but actually then I moved the scales and was closer to 95 again according to that plus my newer mechanical one yesterday afternoon.

I weighed myself today morning and I'm 93kg

Sigh!

TheRealHousewife · 21/04/2022 10:45

@Eesha What about having today as your day zero and take it from there. Have you worked out your TDEE - total daily energy expenditure? The calculator can be useful in working out what cal amount you need to lose.

A couple of links that might be useful/interesting:-

I think it's quite common for the same scales to show different outcomes depending on where you put them, Eesha. I certainly put mine in the same spot every week now. Please don't be disheartened as looks like you're already 2kg down, which is awesome!

And I'm Southampton, RealHousewife. The city is pretty nice in itself and then I have the beautiful New Forest on my doorstep in one direction (and Bournemouth & Dorset up the coast a little) and the South Downs in the other - I really am lucky but have never really taken much advantage of it. Am loving get out there, especially with the gorgeous weather at the moment.

So on that, off for a longer walk today but more coastal - hoping my legs feel up to it as I was pretty pooped after a week off it all. But it felt sooo good to be out in the fresh air and quiet. And with DC back tomorrow and school/work restarting on Monday, determined to make the most of it.

Hope everyone else has a lovely Thursday. I am not loving the new update very much at the moment but hopefully its just settling in bits and pieces and it sorts itself out?

murmuration · 21/04/2022 12:18

Hi everyone again. Apologies I keep dropping off. To you, and to me :) It seems I simply don't lose weight unless I'm posting/checking here regularly.

My goal of my nice clothes for the April event (earlier this week) was only partially met - I could fit into some, but not all. And some I could get on, but they looked tight, so I decided to not wear them.

Another similar event at the end of May - I definitely won't fit into all my nice clothes, but perhaps I make a goal that the ones that were tight are okay to wear.

I was slightly below 13 stone before the event (about what I was when I dropped off, maybe a pound or so higher), and now precisely 13 stone (I had several evening meals, when I normally do intermittent fasting without dinner - but so hard to avoid engaging in the social aspects, especially as some places we went were buffets and I was paying an arm and a leg just to be in there).

So my stats:
SW 14 stone 4
CW 13 stone

Hope I can get back down in the 12 stone range again and keep going...

Haven't really had a chance to catch up as the thread is so long. Hugs to @SunshineCake , I see things are still a struggle with DD :(

buzzofthebumblebee · 21/04/2022 12:23

Another 1lb of Easter indulgences off today. So down to 11 4. I can feel it and see it too.

Weight loss for me really is a mental thing. My mood got quite low again, but I have been really working hard to build it back up again. Low self esteem plays a big part. Not used to putting my own self / needs first. I've had a big wobble, and some time off over Easter has given me headspace - but also desire - to get back into control again. I really do want a slim and toned body, so will focus on the positives to get there. Always feel so much better after a run or pilates class - so will try and keep that in mind when I feel like bunking off.

It's so good you take time for your walking @SanFranBear . I've carried guilt around for so long (I should be at home working, or housework, or x y z ...) but it really is SO important. So thank you for reminding me it is perfectly acceptable to do something that you enjoy and get benefit from !!

Feeling positive. Long may it last !!

Thurs 21st April - 9s 4 & 1/2lb
BMI 21.6
BF 24.3

Weight has come down a bit but I don't feel different (other than hungry!) Am currently eating my favourite meal in my favourite independent restaurant - can't get home between school runs today so thought why not! So I'll be up on the scales tomorrow with water weight but I'm not bothered. I was starting to feel weak with hunger so if I look & feel ok weight-wise I think I'm better responding to my body than sticking rigidly to numbers.
