Any loss, regardless of the day of the week, must be recorded! well done @Sooverthemill

How are you getting on with the c235k @WellTidy ? When I re-started it in February I couldn't do more than 90 seconds running and now I can run for over 35 minutes! Constantly in fear of an injury which is stop all this running in its tracks.

Slight increase on the scales today but I'd had a big dinner last night and my last weigh-in had been after a run, I seem to lose water weight or something when I run and always weigh lighter afterwards.

WellTidy · 04/05/2023 16:58

Absolutely, I will always take a loss, whatever the circumstances!

Yes, I am on w2 of C25k. 90 minutes running this week! I am verily impressed at 35 minutes’ continuous running. Wow. I got to w8 last year and was absolutely amazed that I could run for 20 minutes (albeit slowly, 8kph). I’m a lot heavier than I was last year at the stage that I was doing c25k though, which makes it harder.

6 weeks of trying to lose weight, 6lb down, so a loss of 1lb from last week.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 05/05/2023 13:02

@WellTidy it's such an amazing programme, it really does work if you stick with it. 6lbs in 6 weeks is brilliant, go you :)

Things are going well for me too, I'm down again today, finally my hard work is paying off. I've been at this since February and I've lost 5.25lbs, 3 of which I've lost in the last 3 weeks.

OP posts:
WellTidy · 05/05/2023 13:17

@SwimmingOnEggshells I did of course mean 90 seconds of running this week, not 90 minutes! Can you imagine?! I have a lot more to lose than you do, so it’s really great that you’ve seen that result.

Another run done ✅ Will have to be restrained tomorrow around all the coronation eats and drinks. I think I will skip breakfast and then tuck into then celebratory lunch.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 05/05/2023 13:24

ha, I thought it was a typo alright!

Hello strangers!

I’ve not caught up but scanned the last few posts and see mostly familiar names, it’s nice to be back old friends.

I ‘gave up’ Mumsnet. Managed for a couple of months and was much more focused and productive. But it’s crept back in, so I thought I may as well get back on my favourite (and one useful!) thread.

I got down to 9st 1-2ish back in jan and I just took my eye off the ball for a couple of months and put on half a stone 😣. I didn’t even go that mad, just continued little bits here and there that I wasn’t before.

Currently 9st 6.9 but been pretty good at curbing the extras the last few days. I’m feeling skint too which is helping to not pop into this cafe, not get a bottle of wine for last night etc.

Hope you’re all doing well and hello to those newer shorties I’ve not met yet 👋

WellTidy · 08/05/2023 11:31

Hey @neverenoughchelseboots nice to see you back. And back with a plan!

I battle on. Had a two-day shocker over the weekend with coronation celebrations, but started today with an hour’s walk, 1km row and then w2r3 of c25k. I felt really good after my run and could have done a lot more, so hopefully that will bode well for w3. I really hope so as after I lost all that weight last spring, I charity shopped all of my bigger summer clothes and so I had no summer clothes that fit. I’ve bought a few pairs of trousers, some tops and a dress, but that’s nowhere near enough to keep me clothed for the summer!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 08/05/2023 12:21

Hi @neverenoughchelseaboots ! good to see you back. I hope the little ones are doing well. I know what you mean about not even going mad and the little bits here and there doing the damage. Admittedly I went mad at christmas and literally ate all the cheese I bought, nearly all the chocolates and had wine every night for over two weeks. The lbs still haven't come back off.

I had a shocker of a weekend as well @WellTidy, I ate 6 packets of crisps!!!! croissants, burgers, lunch out... So back up 2lbs today. But I did manage a 4km yesterday and another stop-start, very hilly 4km today.

Welcome back @neverenoughchelseboots same story here with slow creep of weight gain once I took my eye off the ball. At least I'm not ignoring it now but I'd be lying if I said there had been much progress. Bank holidays haven't helped to be fair.

neverenoughchelseboots · 11/05/2023 09:19

You’re right about the bank holiday @againmaeve, I’ve put on a bit, despite doing a few workouts. It was lovely though, we had lots of family time and activities.

I’m 9st 7.7 this morning. My initial target is to get back to 9st 2.

WellTidy · 11/05/2023 11:01

The scales are still showing the results of the coronation celebrations for me too, despite two spin classes, two rowing sessions (actually, calling it a session is very much overstating it, I do 1km and then have a coffee 😀) and me staying on track with my c25k.

I’m up by 1.5lb.

Can anyone who knows about exercise give me a steer please? I am on week 3 of c25k, which advises a day off between the three runs. I do all the runs on the treadmill at the gym. But I also do a spin class twice a week, with the 1km row afterwards, and a yoga class once a week. How do those things fit in or alongside the runs? I wouldn’t be able to do a spin class and then a run straight afterwards on the same day or I would fall over! So do I, say, so the spin on a Monday, and the run on a Tuesday, and then spin on a Wednesday, and then a run on the Thursday, and then yoga/row on the Friday etc? Which doesn’t give me a rest day. I think I need to keep up the spin as that burns quite a lot of calories for a 45 minute session, but I’d like to keep it with the runs as my long term aim is to be able to burn more calories with longer runs.

neverenoughchelseboots · 11/05/2023 11:49

Back in the day I had a personal trainer and did sessions every day Monday - Friday. His take on rest days was that they’re a guide for people exercising 2-3 times a week not to bunch them together and are important just before a race day. But generally - do what works for your lifestyle. Most people aren’t at a level where there’s a need to be so precise.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 11/05/2023 11:58

Sounds sensible to me @WellTidy, you have your weekends off which is a good break. I didn't lose weight on c25k this time until after I finished it :(

I'm also still not back to my last Friday weight, grrrr! Lb above it at the moment. I'm also doing well with my food and exercise so hopefully I'll get a dip tomorrow 🤞🏻

You could have water retention @WellTidy are your muscles sore? All that exercise is bound to lead to water retention.

OP posts:
NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 11/05/2023 17:29

I'm also feeling the post bank holiday bulge! No official weigh in for me this week as we went out too early on Monday. I did an unofficial check yesterday and had maintained rather than lost so I'll try and get back on track and weigh officially on Monday.

@WellTidy I think the rest days are mainly about not over doing the same areas. So if you use different muscle groups or do eg cardio one day and weights the next you can do consecutive days without issue. The people i know who are big gym users will do 6 or 7 days a week but rotate arms, legs, core so the bits they work hard get a two day break before they go again. For me, spin and running would use the same muscles (legs) and also cardio, so I would want a break, but then you wouldn't catch me on a spin bike for love nor money 🤣

WellTidy · 11/05/2023 18:03

Thanks very much for all the advice on timing exercise. I know nothing about these things so it’s great to have your views. I did reformer Pilates today which is all over stretching, so will do c25k again tomorrow. No spin until Sunday.

Yes, my muscles are aching. I am doing the old person grunt when I get up and rubbing my things after going up the stairs 😂 I am putting this down to being very unfit indeed rather than overdoing it, though. I don’t get twinges or anything.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 12/05/2023 09:31

I'd say it's definitely water retention then! I believe that sore muscle pain are micro tears and you'll be holding on to water while they repair and get stronger :)

I'm back to exactly where I was last Friday. No exercise for me today but I'm going to do a Park Run tomorrow and will weigh again after that.

OP posts:
WellTidy · 12/05/2023 10:27

I am comforted by your thought in water retention @SwimmingOnEggshells as I haven’t lost any weight in almost a fortnight. Ok, I had the coronation weekend shocker, it I’m generally restrained otherwise and am exercising. Did w3r2 today and will have a day off tomorrow. Maybe I need to lose the breakfast pastry habit! My diet is very carb heavy which probably isn’t helping.

Running park run is a (very) long term goal of mine, I’d love to be able to run it from start to finish in any time. It’s great that you do it. My DS volunteers every week at our local event. DH is a sub 19 minute runner so he could wait for me for an hour at the end!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 12/05/2023 10:53

Sub 19 minutes!! That's very impressive. I did it in 33 the last time I did it and I'm hoping I'll be a bit faster tomorrow.

OP posts:
WellTidy · 12/05/2023 12:20

Wow, 33 minutes is fast. I am really impressed. I think I’d take about an hour right now! I’m inspired by your time though @SwimmingOnEggshells I’d love to be in your position one day.

Runningcrew · 12/05/2023 13:04

Hi all! Great to see this thread, only recently found out shorter people have their own challenges in losing weight . So working my way through the thread, reading about what’s working for everyone.

I’m just under 5ft 3 and currently weigh around 72kg /11 stone 4. I went up to almost 13 stone during the pandemic so have made some progress.

Been stuck around this weight for the past few months so hoping to kick start more weight loss through continued use of Myfitness pal and starting to train for a 10K. I want to at least try to lose 1 stone over the next 6-8 weeks !

WellTidy · 12/05/2023 13:37

Hi @Runningcrew and welcome. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your weight loss journey! We’re a supportive group. Unfortunately it seems to be harder to shift weight as a shortie.

A bit about me - I’m late 40s, 5 foot 1 and currently 10st 5lb. I’m a yoyo-er, I got down to 8st 11lb last year but put all the weight on and more. I’m now 5lb down this time round and trying to eat less and exercise. It’s not coming off anything like as quickly as it has previously, unfortunately, but on I plough!

Have great weekends, everyone.

Thank you for the welcome! 😃 Yes I’ve found it’s harder for us to lose the pounds.

Congrats on the past and recent weight loss. Indeed - they say consistency is key and you’ve done it before - I’m sure you’ll reach your weight loss goals again.

I’m late 30s and when the scale doesn’t budge I just remind myself I’m still developing healthy habits.

Have a lovely weekend too!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/05/2023 13:05

Hi @Runningcrew 👋🏼 welcome

Did my parkrun and did it in 30 min 50 seconds!! Over two minutes faster than my last one. I did it with a friend who also got a personal best and I reckon we spurred each other on :)

No weight loss on the scales but I'm feeling so delighted with myself that I don't really care 😆

@SwimmingOnEggshells that's s brilliant time! Well done

WellTidy · 13/05/2023 14:32

Well done @SwimmingOnEggshells, that’s really inspiring, I’m chuffed for you

1.5lb down overnight to 10st 3lb. That’s a total loss (this time round) of 7lb. Aiming to maintain that with today being a rest day. DH meanwhile had done half a marathon before 10am. Unfortunately, I don’t find this at all inspiring, as it is so far away from what I can accomplish. And now he will eat all day 😆
