Just started Fast 800 - care to join me?

Hello

Despite my user name, I will not allow myself to be ambushed by cakes etc for at least 3 weeks. I have a stone to lose and have just read the Fast 800 Keto and watched the series on 4 on Demand, How to Lose a stone in 21 days.

Day one went well. Had 3 lovely meals (recipes delicious and easy to prepare) but just not a lot of them.

The 5 volunteers on the Channel 4 series lost between 10 lbs and 1st 10 lbs in 21 days. That has got to be a great motivation.

Please join me if you like the sound of this, as we can support each other.

@Ambushedbycakeinmydreams

Thank you! Once you're in the swing of things it's easier than I expected it to be to be honest. I've never been a big breakfast lover so I'm also doing TRE and tend to just have two meals a day (lunch and dinner) and fast 8pm(ish) to 12pm(ish).

One thing I've found which has been great is this low carb granola. It's yummy and if you sprinkle a bit over Greek yogurt it's almost a pudding!

I'd love to join you all as well. I started on Monday 28th February. I've found it hard and didn't think I could get through the first week, but I did. So far it's day 9 and I've lost 11lbs.

I have got a lot to shift though. I would be happy with 4 stones but I could lose 6. I'm pretty shocked and disgusted that I've let myself get this far. At the moment it seems like a long road and I'm taking it one day at a time.

Tomatel · 08/03/2022 13:03

Good afternoon,
I have started this diet today. Seem to be in exactly the same boat as you HailMary.
Would love some peer support chat! 11lbs in 9 days is amazing. You've inspired me!

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 08/03/2022 15:26

Welcome @HailMary1988 and @Tomatel

It's great that we can support each other on this thread. Like you, Hail, I'm just ahead on Day 10. I think one day at a time is the way to go and you've clearly made a fantastic start - just try and keep going, you're almost one stone better off already.

Tomatel, you've made a great decision to start on this diet. I hope it goes really well and let us know how you get on.

Hi, my copy of the book is arriving tomorrow so I will hopefully be joining you all soon. I mostly want to eat better for health and help sort out my bad snacking habit. Would love to eat healthy meals and not be rummaging through the cupboards for biscuits all evening!

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 09/03/2022 07:19

@MadameLeotta

Yippee, another one joining us and welcome here!

Before your start day I would suggest take time and have a good read of the book beforehand and doing all the prep so you're set up for success.

On day 11 now (half way through phase 1). Clothes feeling better each day so it's easy to remain motivated.

Hello can I join? On another thread where I started in January, caught covid and lost my way, so restarted on the same day as PP, day 9 and have 7lbs off this morning. Happy with that but still have 2 stone to go so I'm in for the full 12 weeks. That nicely takes me up to my holidays, hoping to fit into some nice size 12 clothes thst haven't seen the light of day for a few years.

I'm doing 2 meals a day, brunch and dinner, I find it helps me keep the calories in check.
@Sunshinegirl82 that granola looks good! Is it the keto one you buy?

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 09/03/2022 08:19

@Cafog

Lovely to have you onboard. Well done on losing half a stone, I bet that feels great!

I'm doing 3 meals a day and trying to keep within time restricted eating (TRE) and roughly 8 hour window.

Thanks @Ambushedbycakeinmydreams. I lost 1st2 last summer, firstly following Macros Inc and then wanting to speed things up so I loosely followed the regular Fast 800. It worked really well and I had a flat stomach for the first time ever! I maintained my new weight easily without doing much so thankfully it hadn’t affected my metabolism, and stayed at goal weight. I’ve recently been away for a week on holiday and even though we’ve been home for 2 weeks I’ve been struggling to get back into sensible eating and far too much sugar has crept back in. I weighed myself this morning though and I’ve only actually put on 3lbs but I’m feeling bloated and lethargic with eating badly so want to sort that out. Looking forward to getting the book and making some healthy changes 😀

Glenthebattleostrich · 09/03/2022 08:35

Hello, mind if I join you? Im nearly at the end of week 6 of 800keto.

So far (despite a few slip ups) I'm 17lb down. I love the recipes and have found this easy to stick to, although Ive low carbed off and on for a while so no keto flu.

I would say that preparation is the key, I have at least 4 days of meals prepped and frozen for those can't be arsed days. And water. Drink ALL the water!! Hot water with lemon in the morning, green tea or mint tea through the day and more water!! Oh and take your measurements, for those weeks the scales dont move, inches usually do.

My starting stats were:

Height - 5' 6"
Weight - 14st 7
Waist - 39 inches
Hips 42.5 inches
Dress size 18

Today's stats -

Weight - 13st 4
Waist - 34.5 inches
Hips - 39 inches
Dress size - 14-16 (depending on shop!). Im about an inch off fitting in my smaller jeans comfortably which was my initial target.

I go on holiday 4 weeks tomorrow so aiming to get another 7lb off before I go. Then 2 weeks off and back to it!

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 09/03/2022 09:36

@Glenthebattleostrich

And welcome!

Thanks for sharing your really interesting experiences and I'm glad it's definitely working for you - after six weeks of keto you're definitely a veteran and an advocate.

Your tips on water and measuring are really good advice - I felt a bit out of sorts this morning but have been steadily drinking so am feeling a lot better now (only 30 mins to go until breakfast).

Good luck with the holiday countdown, keep us updated!

Ah yes, sugary stuff.

I spoke to a friend about it who'd had big success on this diet about 2 years ago, she lost 2 stone in 3 - 4 months and had no qualms about the diet and generally no issues with it.

But her downfall was, when you start to eat sugary stuff again such as biscuits and cakes - beware - you will suddenly develop acute sugar cravings (and potentially derail all that hard work, which she freely admits has now happened). Her advice is to try and resist it post-Keto/800/ etc. But the Dr Mosley recipes for "treats" which relay on mashed bananas, dried dates etc will be ok and should not reinstate the inner sugar monster.

I know people have mixed views on sugar per se, saying it should not be demonised as a food source and I would agree. But (speaking for myself) I have a terrible sweet tooth and now having gone for 11 days without this sugar I feel absolutely fine and not craving it (other than I look wistfully at our fruit bowl).

Over a year ago, I decided to stop drinking alcohol as I was becoming more dependent - I cannot do the little and often thing, so complete abstinence has to be the only way. I think I may have to come to a similar decision re sugary treats ....

OP posts:
MadameLeotta · 09/03/2022 10:17

I totally agree @Ambushedbycakeinmydreams I am most definitely a sugar fiend but I was really surprised when I followed this previously and managed quite happily without my usual chocolate and biscuits. But once those floodgates reopen!! I too gave up alcohol (3.5 years ago now) and it was a similar thing with that - if I ‘just had 1’ I was back on the bandwagon of drinking a few nights a week, for me they’re very similar.

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 09/03/2022 10:49

@MadameLeotta

We sound quite similar!

I wonder if a future thread of mine will be - I've now given up drinking; can I do the same with sugary treats - ...

I'm with you on the drinking front. I can't just have one glass of wine, it has to be the bottle and recently finding myself thinking I'll get another. So I've set a mini goal of Easter and then reassess. Never gone on a city break without alcohol before so this weekend will be a test.

Going to indulge in the hotel breakfast (love a hotel breakfast) but will go easy the rest of the day and plan to walk my heart out and start properly from Tuesday.

Because this sounds sustainable.

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 09/03/2022 11:09

@Supersee

Hi there.

So have you set a goal of zero alcohol say from now until Easter? And in between you have a city break lined up (nice!)

I know what you mean regarding hotel breakfasts and if you are foregoing drink at least enjoy the food.

Re the drink I read several memoirs eg Clare Pooley the Sober Diaries - all really useful and encouraging. However by far the best book for me was Alan Carr's "Quit drinking without willpower". It helped explain so much of why many of us spiral into alcohol dependency and it reset my relationship with it so that I just don't want it anymore.

Hi there

From what Dr Mosley has put on his website, it does indeed sound sustainable when participants have been followed up a year later. And there's probably more stuff if you take a look here (not sure this link will work but copy & paste into the browser).

@Ambushedbycakeinmydreams yep, off to
Lisbon and not going to stress too much about the food if I'm staying off the alcohol. Last drink was on Monday so it's what, 4-5 weeks until Easter? I'm also flying solo so I don't tend to overeat anyway as sitting alone in restaurants isn't much fun.

I downloaded an Alan Carr book for women to stop drinking a couple of years ago but only read the first few chapters. Might restart that when I'm away!

JodieFoster1 · 09/03/2022 11:25

There’s about a dozen of us now, a proper gang!

Glenthebattleostrich thanks for your 6 weeks in report. You are doing really well. I have taken my measurements as recommended. I am all tummy, legs slim. I have been over weight for 3 years. Decided to be ambitious and aim for bmi of 21. I was a bmi of 19-21 until age 50. Tucking a blouse into my jeans would be a thrill. I currently wear maternity jeans Grin.

I eat one meal at lunchtime (200 kc) and main bigger meal at 6 pm. Some days I just have one big meal at 6 pm. Eating a lot of eggs, portobello mushrooms, courgettes, cauliflower, spring greens, wild salmon, chicken, smoked mackerel fillets, brussel sprouts, mange tout. I would say 75% of my food is veg.

JodieFoster1 · 09/03/2022 11:32

TheRealistBub thanks for that, you are quite right we are all too optimistic, let’s give in to the elasticated waistbands and tunic tops for ever. You’ve persuaded me. Trying to lose 3 lbs a week eating proper nutritious food, what was I thinking.

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 09/03/2022 11:45

@Supersee

The Alan Carr book on how to give up sugar was not so great in my opinion as the thrust seemed to be - go plant based instead!

@JodieFoster1 - yeh, like you're comment we're now a proper gang :)

Don't forget everyone, more info is available on the fast 800 info.com website, including testimonies that real people have achieved results and sustained them Smile

My book’s just arrived 🤗 realistically I’ll be looking to get started properly next week but will get started with meal planning and food shopping in advance of that.

Sunshinegirl82 · 09/03/2022 21:12

@Cafog

Yes I usually get the keto one. I love granola but all the usual ones are v high in carbs so I was really pleased to find it!

I went out for a work lunch today and managed quite well I think with a 1/4 rotisserie chicken and garlicky green beans. Normally I'd have gone for a massive burger and a pudding so it feels like a minor victory!

I'm also a huge sugar lover, I got into really bad habits over lockdown of rewarding myself with food and was eating far too much chocolate and ice cream. I do think that not being able to have any sugar at all is helping me stick with it. I'm also now pretty happy with only doing two meals a day.
