Hello

Despite my user name, I will not allow myself to be ambushed by cakes etc for at least 3 weeks. I have a stone to lose and have just read the Fast 800 Keto and watched the series on 4 on Demand, How to Lose a stone in 21 days.

Day one went well. Had 3 lovely meals (recipes delicious and easy to prepare) but just not a lot of them.

The 5 volunteers on the Channel 4 series lost between 10 lbs and 1st 10 lbs in 21 days. That has got to be a great motivation.

Please join me if you like the sound of this, as we can support each other.

You lot are inspiring.
I’ve decided to go for it (posted earlier in the thread) I have the book on my kindle from a while back and I’m going to start looking at the recipes.
I’m not a big meat eater and prefer beans and lentils. I know we’re not meant to be eating too much of that but it’s got to be better than bread and pasta, right?

Sunshinegirl82 · 09/03/2022 22:29

We had celeriac chips tonight with chicken and roasted veg and they were great, worth a try if you want a break from cauliflower!

LaurenLemonHead · 09/03/2022 22:40

Hello to all and congratulations on the weight loss.

I am on week 4, I did fast 800 and lost 9lb, 3 inches of my waist and 1.5% body fat in the first week.

Week 2 was another 5lb loss, another inch off my waist and 0.9% reduction in body fat.

At this point I switched to keto as I wanted more cheese as I was worried about my calcium too. I was already doing time restricted eating, so no breakfast but lunch and dinner, just massively increased my veg and to be honest the thing I miss most is a cup of tea with sugar in it.

I now have coffees with almond milk and no sugar/no carb syrups from the Skinny Food Co.

In total I have lost 1 stone 4lbs in 4 weeks. I am sleeping better, I also have chronic fatigue as part of my medical condition and I am feeling far perkier in the afternoons which is when I usually crash. Dh is doing this with me so we are supporting each other through it. I even baked brownies for the children and didn't even nibble a crumb mainly because I wanted to stay in ketosis.

Morning all and a warm welcome to @LaurenLemonHead

It sounds like we're all doing well! I'm on day 12, passed the half way mark, and feel good. I have accepted that my daily exercise routine is harder to do so I'm settling for breaking it down into smaller chunks and lessening the resistance. But exercise per se is not the point of keto though it's very good to do alongside it. Dr Mosley was right to say that this is not the time to train for a marathon.

Lauren, you are such an inspiration and thanks for sharing your progress update. I don't have children so I am in awe to those of you who are sticking with it with little ones around (I really don't know how you do it!)

@Ambushedbycakeinmydreams my youngest is 16 years old! My oldest is at uni. I am late 40s.

I have a few stone to lose, I have been very lax about looking after myself and we started fast 800 with no real plan we just decided after all we had watched/read we were starting that day. We basically just cut bread, pasta, rice and potatoes and put more veg on our plates nut weighed everything. Dh is also feeling the benefits of it.

The first week I felt awful because of the sugar withdrawal but I felt great rolling into week 2. I am very determined to lose the weight. My clothes were either very tight or didn't fit at all. I think that was the issue with lockdown, I lived in lounge pants, t shirts and hoodies so didn't notice the creep of weight being inside and not exercising. It was a complete shock when I weighed myself and the kick up the arse I needed.

Good luck with the marathon training. Must be harder when you are reducing calorie intake.

HailMary1988 · 10/03/2022 09:41

It does feel like a littel gang now and I love reading how everyone is doing.

All this talk of never having sugar again is scary. I have the biggest sweet tooth and really suffered with withdrawal at the start of the plan. I suppose it's just something I'll have to find a way to mange and moderate.

I've reduced the exercise I'm doing in the last couple of weeks, but feel able to start building it up again. I don't struggle to exercise - I love it. Even at my highest weight I was still doing lots of spinning with bits of yoga and weights. I did spinning last night and picked a short class - I've lost a bit of pwer but felt better for doing it.

Yes, I've counted and so far there are 17 of us on this thread. It's great that we can motivate and support each other and thank you all for sharing!

InterstellarDrifter I really like beans and lentils too, they are quite high carb but also high fibre. Strictly speaking we are not allowed them on Fast800 but I have had a couple of tablespoons of lentils with my evening veg one night. I am not doing keto though, just old school Fast800. Like you say it’s a lot better than bread or pasta.

Unfortunately I have stalled this week, haven’t cheated but seem to be having another period (only 1 week since last one finished). Putting it down to hormonal gain and keeping going. I don’t want to frighten younger posters but I am nearly 55 and still having periods.

Thanks Sunshinegirl82 for celeriac chips mention, putting them in the menu for tonight.

Lorelaiii · 10/03/2022 16:08

Hello, please may I join in?
I've always been overweight and we have had a pretty rubbish couple of years. My husband's mom was very poorly and subsequently passed away this year, that combined with lockdown resulted in eating rubbish, drinking so much every night, but it is time to take control.
My mom was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes this year so this seemed a sensible diet for us all to take on.
I weighed in Sunday and was 18 stone 11, which is the biggest I think I've been. Have followed the plan since Monday and was very pleased to weigh in today and see 17 stone 11, so 1 stone lost in 5 days. I'm under no illusions that a lot of that is water but it's so encouraging.
I have set a target of 13 stone. I think that still makes me overweight but I'm a wide, 5 foot 9 woman and I don't know how I'll look at that weight (never been there so don't know!).
I'm glad to find a forum to share encouragement and likeminded thinking.
Lorelai x

Rude @Wonderwall80!

Lovely to see how everyone is getting on. Tomorrow is official weigh in day for me so fingers crossed for a good loss!

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 10/03/2022 17:46

@Wonderwall80

I've posted quite a bit on the other thread if you want to take a look. Are you joining us for a bit of Fast 800, if so, welcome.

Hello @Lorelaiii

You're very welcome here and congratulations on a flyaway start. Life has clearly been hard for you and under stressful circumstances it's easy to turn to food and drink for comfort and distraction. But it sounds like you've got the drive to give it a serious go and great if you're taking the rest of the family with you!

Winecheesesleep · 10/03/2022 22:43

Wow this thread has grown since I last posted! I'm in the zone with this in the last few days. I had a stressful day at work and didn't finish until late but still made myself a Lentil salad that fit into my calorie allowance whilst DH had a pizza.

I've had cowboy beans from the Fast 800 recipe book for lunch the past few days, I thought they were lovely and filling.

TrooBloo · 10/03/2022 22:45

I know 3 people who followed this with great success, although two went back to normal eating and gained most if not all of the weight back.

I couldn’t follow it, no carbs made me SO ill. Took me days to recover from one day of cutting them!

Good luck all

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 11/03/2022 07:49

Morning everyone, just checking in!

Well done @Winecheesesleep for keeping to the plan despite a long stressful day at work. Today you'll be so glad you did :)

Day 13 for me (ignoring the fact today is also a Friday). But feeling good, still in keto.

I'm sorry @TrooBloo that it didn't work out for you, it isn't an easy regime for many. I did SW about 3 years ago which was great in that the diet is so adaptable so nothing was off the table food and drinks wise. I lost all the weight I wanted but it was very slow at around 1 - 2 lbs a week. I kept it off for a year too - and then Covid and comfort baking kicked in.

Hi, I’ve decided the keto version is a bit too extreme for me and am instead following what I did last summer which worked for me (loosely fast800 and tracking macros). I’ve only got a couple of holiday lbs to get rid of and think I’d struggle to follow it fully. Well done everyone who’s sticking to it 👏 I’ve had a good few days on my 800 cal regime and will check my progress with a weigh-in tomorrow 😀 Have a successful weekend x

JodieFoster1 · 11/03/2022 09:20

Hi everyone and welcome new joiners. Going to try and be a bit more active today.

Had a delicious smoked mackerel, celeriac and creme fraiche bake for dinner last night with broccoli. Went way over 800 due to huge second helpings. Strict day today, lots of veg and weighing properly.

LadyCathdeBourgh · 11/03/2022 10:57

Hi, I'm on day 5 of fast 800 and I'm surprised how easy it's been although I'm aware it might be novelty value! I have at least 3 stone to lose but I'd prefer a bit more. I'm short so it really shows
@JodieFoster1 your dinner sounds amazing! Do you have the recipe please?

JodieFoster1 · 11/03/2022 11:42

LadyCathdeBurgh it’s a combination of two different recipes that I played with.

4 people / 20 x 20 cm dish

700 gr celeriac
1 onion
10 gr butter
250 gr of smoked mackerel (I used a lot more)
2 tablespoons chopped dill
2 tablespoons creamed horseradish
150 ml creme freche
100 ml fish stock (fish stock cube)
Salt and pepper

170 degree fan oven

I sliced the onion and softened by pan frying in olive oil.

Greased dish with butter. Added half the sliced celeriac (like for dauphinois) and all the onion. Season. Add the mackerel (no skin no bones) in big flaked chunks. Mix the stock, creme f, horseradish and dill and pour on top. Add another layer of celeriac.

Cover with foil for 25 mins, remove foil and bake until top is a little crispy (20 mins?).

You can’t really taste the horseradish, you could swop for mustard if you liked. You could add a few anchovies. Some recipes say double cream but that’s too rich for me. I served with steamed broccoli and sugar snap.

I’ve never given anyone a recipe before, feel quite nervous! It might be wise to Google and get a proper version with calorie count.

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 11/03/2022 11:57

Hello and welcome @LadyCathdeBourgh

It sounds like you've really taken to Fast 800, so I'd love to hear about how you get on.

Thanks for sharing the recipe, Jodie. Any hints and tips to make this easier are good!

LadyCathdeBourgh · 11/03/2022 17:44

@JodieFoster1 Thank you - it sounds delicious 😋
Thanks @Ambushedbycakeinmydreams. I have really struggled to lose weight over the last two years. The doctor just says it's my age 😢 I'm late 40s. I think that whilst I chose healthier options my portion sizes were massive so I need to relearn what a sensible amount is.

Ambushedbycakeinmydreams · 12/03/2022 09:17

Welcome to the weekend!

Nearly 2 weeks through and I can get into a gorgeous jumpsuit now so am feeling really delighted.

I've just watched the Dr Mosley follow up to how to lose a stone in 21 days, called how to keep a healthy on 4 on Demand. It follows the original 5 volunteers six months later after the 3-week experiment. It's really useful as it explains a lot why we may find it so difficult to maintain the weight loss (dieting is clearly the easy bit!)

I'm thinking ahead here. I know I'm going to lose the weight I set as my target, but what next needs preparation. I think it has to be a blanket ban on any sweet crap inside the house eg HD ice-cream, carrot cake, chocolate and biscuits - no exceptions.
