Hi everyone. New thread as promised. A little later than planned but I'm blaming celebrating too much last night.
I wish I could say it was a good start but I'm feeding my hangover today so looks like I'm going to start tomorrow.
Is everyone feeling motivated?

OP posts:
zippychick · 21/01/2008 21:34

sorry for posting again, just noticed the book says its raw so the short answer is 6 syns for 113g....

mde · 21/01/2008 21:37

zippy, i didnt reliase it was raw weight and have been having cooked weight. but got my new book last week, and its a lot clearer now. so am hoping i lose more weight now.

Fireflyfairy2 · 21/01/2008 21:43

Zippi, why do you need to syn your 'crisps?' If cooked the same way as sw chips they would be free, no?

zippychick · 21/01/2008 22:46

Mde its definitely raw weight i checked again for you. WHats the new book like? anything different or new? mines jan 07 version, says on the spine

firefly i dunno = my theory is because of them being cut so thin theyre less filling and nutritious so you can eat more. SO they dont have the same filling power as they would cut as potatoes or chips. I cant go back to my class really - hard to get to, and i wouldnt ring my consultant to ask her! SO id rather not risk thinking theyre free, eating 5lbs worth then to find theyre synilicious! crisps are my weakness you see ! that probably makes no sense.

misdee · 21/01/2008 22:48

the new book is good. it gives you raw and cooked weights for each healthy extra, and its so much easier to work with.

zippychick · 21/01/2008 23:42

ahhh sounds good, i must see if i can get one

Got the hula hoop out tonight and couldnt manage it on my waist but can on my arms. Then i got the skipping rope and did 50 skips.

near did myself in.

Beadmum · 22/01/2008 08:03

lost a pound this week, would have liked more but at least its a loss.
well done to everyone else on their losses.

Had an indian takeaway at the weekend but ate until i was full rather than bursting and felt much better for it, didnt feel guilty about having it, just enjoyed my treat and carried on as normal with sw the next day taken me years to be able to think like that

SWlurker · 22/01/2008 09:05

so annoyed with myself last night. needed a good 3 days on track this week and had a blow out last night. It was my friend's 30th so we went out for dinner to Nandos, I have haloumi cheese and mushroom pitta (2 HEA's and about 6 syns for the pitta I think) with corn on the cob (1/3 mini packet of butter, 2 syns?) and spicy rice (god knows, 2 syns its only a titchy portion!) - but then a large glass of wine (6) and at bowling I managed to put away 2 tia maria and diet cokes (5) and a BIG packet of walkers crisps (8??) - so about 29 syns for 1 evening where I thought I had made a pretty good choice of meal! did have lots of fun though, am a terrible bowler

I will just have to get more organised - I should have seen that coming, its not like I didn't know it was her birthday! same with meetings I guess, guess I could take a Hifi bar into the meeting and nibble on a triangle or two of sandwiches I really can't do red days, but could maybe do a mix to match.

sigh I've got a meeting this afternoon I shall have to do my best to avoid the biccies - thats a good tip Zippy I will have to remember or at least guess the syns of everything in there befoer it passes my lips!
Then again I think my being more organised will have to start tomorrow, as I had nothing in the house to make lunch with and don't have a car today to go out and buy something good with. Will have to try to catch the sandwich lady early today and nab a box of fruit for lunch and dig out my weetabix that is skulking somewhere.

Oh, and Zippy i don't have kids either, I must confess I just found this thread when searching for SW and got a bit hooked! Hope thats ok with everyone!

mamasara82 · 22/01/2008 12:10

I just had the chicken tikka dish from this months mag and it is so yummy. Really recommend it. Let me know if you want the details to make it.

Diege · 22/01/2008 13:38

Thanks ZIPPY for the chicken advice! Think I probably underestimated, but I'll know for next time .
Have just done an aerobic class, so will be generous with my syns tonight! SWLURKER, don't be too hard on yourself! I strongly believe that meals out/birthdays etc should be enjoyed without having to calculate what you have in front of you - that's what 'normal' days are for and we do enough of that! I'm also a bit cross when friends come over for a meal who are dieting and refuse everything because of THE DIET (I have one on the 'stone age' diet which pretty much eliminates everything, and think it's pretty rude when the host has gone to the bother of making something tasty and nutritious...but then that's just me! Control freak
Right, rant over! Off to hunt out the water cooler at work. Must drink more water!!

saselm · 22/01/2008 19:45

hi all please can i join you i have been doing sw online on and off for a year and have lost two stone so far was more but i had a bad xmas. i wondered if anyone had the recipe for corn bread as i cant find it online.
em

andyrobo237 · 22/01/2008 19:56

Yes, corn bread recipe now:

Serves 4 - Syn Free on Green Day
12½ Syns per Serving on Original

Ingredients:-

Fry Light

9 oz fine Polenta (may be called cornmeal - mine was from tesco)
1 tsp Baking Powder
Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper
4 large Eggs, lightly beaten
11 oz Very Low Fat Natural Yogurt
10 oz canned Sweetcorn Kernels, drained
2 mild Green Chillies, deseeded and finely chopped
7 oz bottled roasted Red Peppers in brine, rinsed, drained and finely chopped (I just roasted my own)
6 Spring Onions, finely chopped

Preheat oven to 170°C/Gas 3

Spray an 8? cast-iron skillet or an ovenproof, non-stick baking tin with Fry Light

Mix together the Polenta and Baking Powder, season well

In a jug, combine the beaten Egg and Yogurt and pour into the Polenta mixture

Add the Sweetcorn, Chillies, Red Peppers and Spring Onions and stir lightly to combine

Pour the batter into the oven-proof dish and bake in the oven for 35-40 mins, until firm and lightly browned on top

Cut the warm bread into squares or slices and serve immediately

There it is - mine took longer than the time given to cook (but I think my oven is on its way out!). I ate some warm and froze the rest - and had some for lunch today - it is nice, but not yummy, but saves a HEB bread on a green day!

I lost 1 lb this week - need 4 to get my club 10 and 5 for half stone - any ideas of how to speed up my weightloss?

lurcherlass · 22/01/2008 20:25

Thanks for the recipe Andy, sounds like the sort of thing I'd like. I'm going to make it as soon as I get to Tescos for the polenta. WE had SW chicken dopiaza tonight, I saved some of the sauce and dropped some chicken-style quorn into it, so I can have it with a jacket potato later in the week.
Does anyone have a recipe for an all-bran cake?

sugarlumps · 22/01/2008 21:34

well done bead on your loss! i think i may be back on target this week for a maintain or maybe even a tiny tiny loss (fingers crossed) been really good today and will be doubley good 2moro for my weigh on thursday! anyways i'm having an early night tonight to avoid all temptations! so night night all!

Fireflyfairy2 · 22/01/2008 22:11

Well done on all the losses!!

Misdee, how are you getting on? And your mum?

I have just had an hour spinning class tonight, my legs are like jelly!

I was at a birthday party today, was very very hard to stay on track, but I did Luckily the birthday girls mam is on sw too, so she made herelf & I a dish of pasta woth passata with potatoes layered on top, covered with cheese!! was delicious

Weigh in tomorrow night!

zippychick · 22/01/2008 23:34

I lost 3 lbs and am definitely losing inches with the exercise

Made soup tonight

2 tspns vecon - free stock in a jar, buy from holland and barrestt
half large carton passata
red onion
red pepper
some yellow pepper
spring onions
sweetcorn - syns

fried onion with garlic and fry light. added all veg apart from sweetcorn and fry few more mins. Add stock made up to two pints of stock, and the passata. Boil briefly and turn right down to simmer. Trow loads of black pepper and chilli flakes in, let it simmer for 30 mins. Throw the sweetcorn in once cooked as it doesnt really need cooked

1.5 syns for the whole pot - sweetcorn. Its yummy, spicy and moreish. sao if i get 3 servings out of a pot - maybe more even, its half a syn at 3 servings.

im 13st 1 and my heaviest was 14 3 . I was a size 18 reluctantly or veerrrry tight 16 , and now 16s are hanging off me, and ive fitted stuff ive not in ages

well done on the losses everyone

bran cake? whats that then?!

zippychick · 22/01/2008 23:36

cant wait to be 12 stone something! Next week i blood better be. I havent even had a treat night out as im completely satisfied with what im eating.

AM going to curb my syns at 10 though

misdee · 22/01/2008 23:40

FF, i weigh in tomorrow morning, my mum is on hols with other sister, and i have given my sister hints and tips to keep my mum on track. tbh i dont think her heart is in this diet at all and am not expecting her to stick to it. its quite sad, as my mum is moe overweight than me becuse even though she weighs less, she is a lot shorter. she has diabetes as well, and i really worry about her health but unless she wants to change then i cant make her

SWlurker · 23/01/2008 08:56

Oh somebody slap me! REALLY must go food shopping tonight and have a ready supply in my handbag & desk & stock at home of good syn free stuff. had a topsy turvy day yesterday, driving around the country and messed around my food. I will have put on tonight for sure for the SECOND week running. I want to lose weight, I think i'm motivated to do it so why do I keep messing up!?!

Think I am going to try and eat as many superspeed foods as possible this week. Any one got any recipies? mine goes as far as variations on a theme of passata, onion, peas and quorn pieces! I don't find that much apart from potatoes and pasta fills me up but quorn does

sugarlumps · 23/01/2008 09:51

sorry for being thick lol but whats passata? seen lots of posts with it in?

katylou25 · 23/01/2008 10:03

Passata is tomatoes blended in a jar basically! Have had a few bad days so am determined to get back on track today so far have had....

banana, satsuma and grapes, 2 ryvita crispbreads (2 syns) with marmite

Plan for the rest of the day is...

Lunch - sandwich with cheese (HE A/B) veg sticks. yoghurt

Tea - Homemade lamb burgers with mint relish - (WHISPER _ its a weightwatchers recipe froma book free with this months good food magazine got a lot of recipes in it that are either free or could be adapted to be free in it), potato wedges (HEB) and salad

Evening Treat - curly wurly 6 syns

However ds2 has got to go to the doctor soon and talk was of sending him for a chest xray today if hes no better than he was when they saw him last tine which hes not so that could all go out of the window if i have to spend the afternoon in a hospital with two toddlers! that vending machine may be needed for stress reduction!!

Fireflyfairy2 · 23/01/2008 10:03

Passatta is a tomato based saucy thing... Erm, a bit like seived tomatoes? But it's lovely & smooth. it comes in cartons or glass bottles, often with herbs or garlic added to it. It saves you using syns for a pasta sauce as passatta is delicious

I weigh in tonight & am hoping to have a bit off after my humungous gain in the 2 months I had off!! I have stuck to the plan & exercised quite hard for me!

My sister runs 10 miles every morning, then she goes to work.... when she comes home from work she will often hd a 5 mile run...if she doesn't have time for the run it doesn't matter, as she teaches spin cycle classes 4 nights a week!! She is currently doing a course over 2 months to become a fully trained aerobics teacher... why oh why did I get the fat gene & she got the energetic gene????

Fireflyfairy2 · 23/01/2008 10:05

Good luck with the doctor Katylou

have you got a sw handbook? There are a load of things in them that are labelled as "grab & go" so you would always have them handy in your bag/desk drawer for when you need them

SWlurker · 23/01/2008 12:34

(rummages around for SW handbook) thank you I'll try that!

nikkid21 · 23/01/2008 13:25

Lost 2lb this week and got my club 10.
Zippychick - Sounds like I could be your slimming twin. I started at 14 1 1/2 in september and was a 16/18. Am now down to 12 10 and have just bought my first pair of size 14 jeans since I got married 7 years ago! Have set a preliminary target of 12 stone (i'm 5ft 9) but will see how I feel when I get there.
Want to lose 1.5lb this week to get my stone and half sticker.
