Calorie counting for the new year, anyone want to join?

Hello :)
I have a 11lbs to lose, and planning on calorie counting as it’s worked well for me in the past. I’ll be using Nutracheck and on 1450 calories a day. I really need accountability so I’m planning to post my calories and meals each evening, and weigh in every Thursday starting tomorrow.

I’d love some company!
Happy to talk to myself if not though (and I fully expect I will be as it’s a bit of a boring thread 😂).

I was planning to start on the 1st but due to being absolutely disgusted with how much I’ve eaten over Christmas I’m starting tomorrow instead Grin

I’m also planning a general lifestyle improvement - much less time on my phone, and some kind of exercise every day.

Good luck to anyone else looking to lose weight in the new year! 💪

I agree @MushMonster and the app is helping me decide what kind of snack I might have after taking into consideration how much sugar, protein, fat etc. I have already had.

Glad you're doing ok @SockFluffInTheBath and you sound really motivated @StarryNightSparkles!

So after my first week I'm two pounds down - hurrah! I'm pretty pleased with that as a starting point.

This is the first time I've really seriously calorie counted instead of just dabbling and I've just bitten the bullet and paid for nutracheck. I do find it much better than MFP. It's not too much of a faff to put the recipes in and once my meals have built up it will be easy to add things I've had before.

StarryNightSparkles · 12/01/2022 13:29

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 2 pounds is fantastic.

MushMonster · 12/01/2022 16:56

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo

Thank you! So todays calories:

Breakfast - oat banana pancakes with banana, a tiny drizzle of maple syrup and hot water with lemon 355 cals

Lunch - Cajun bean soup (pinch of nom) and an apple 258 cals

Dinner - roasted veggie dish (new potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, halloumi with pomegranate seeds) 392 cals

4 x tea with milk 80 cals.

It leaves me with 315 cals to play with - either a snack if hungry or save to balance out any weekend indulgences!

Also went out for a run.

MushMonster · 12/01/2022 21:20

Another day done here too!
I just came back from the gym.

Tomorrow I have muesli and yougurt, veggie chilli with basmati rice, tomatoe soup and fruit smoothie.
Then one hour cycling in the gym.

Daisy829 · 12/01/2022 21:46

Well done everyone. I’ve had a stressful day at work so been quite snacky. Still within my calories but I don’t feel I’ve eaten well. Must do better tomorrow. Also back to the gym

Milliways · 12/01/2022 22:09

Can I join you you all?
I only started this week and was looking on the Calorie Counting Topic and couldn’t see anything. Considered the low carb Bootcamp but honestly don’t think I could do that, and DH has to be happy with what we eat.
I lost 1.5 stone in 2018 and it crept back on over lockdown as I got very stressed with work (NHS) and couldn’t be bothered.
So I’ve gone back to logging everything on my Fitbit and finding that the thought of having to log a biscuit makes it easier to say no at work!
Todays food was:
Poached egg on toast for breakfast 144 cals
Mixed Salad for lunch with a slice of ham and coleslaw, plus a spoonful of Greek yoghurt with a few blueberries and strawberries, and a small banana - 416 cals
Hairy dieters sweet and sour chicken, brown rice and a few cashew nuts for dinner , plus a Thick and Creamy Yoghurt - 702 cals
(Yoghurts are delicious and need eating up, so worth the 207 cals)
So with my teas and coffees added that’s 1314 cals today.

I do recommend the Hairy Dieter recipes, they are really flavoursome and filling.

Daisy829 · 13/01/2022 09:58

Welcome @Milliways I’ve never looked at the hairy bikers books but I’ll have a go. Good luck on your first week.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/01/2022 13:50

Welcome @Milliways! We've got the hairy bikers books and use them, along with the pinch of nom ones quite a lot.

Milliways · 13/01/2022 20:00

Thank you!
Had another good day today but am meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow and last time I saw her (pre lockdowns) she had cooked a banquet when I was only expecting a snack!

StarryNightSparkles · 14/01/2022 18:43

Hi everybody and welcome @Milliways I've been getting into yoghurts also its petite fuloue?sp I like 2 pots are around 80 calories.

First weigh in this morning and I've lost 2 pounds. I am extremely happy with that. Now sitting at 13st exactly. An even 3 stone to shift. I am aiming to have lost 1 stone by the end of April 🤞

Have a fantastic weekend everyone 💐

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/01/2022 19:15

Brilliant @StarryNightSparkles ! How was lunch @Milliways?

I have had a good day with some calories saved for a couple of glasses of WineGrin

StarryNightSparkles · 14/01/2022 19:19

Enjoy Dr Do 😊🍷I am doing dry January so on the water.

MotherMole · 15/01/2022 09:56

So... a little update from me.

Since Monday I've been in calorie deficit every day. I've run 36km. I've not eaten past 7pm.... and I've gained weight!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't work it out. I lost so much weight after having DS1, it's creeping back and I really don't want it to.

I think I'll cut out bread. I suspect part of the gain is Christmas scoffing catching up with me. However I will stick with it but any tips will be greatly appreciated. Smile

Wishing everyone a good weekend. Daffodil

Daisy829 · 15/01/2022 10:35

Oh no @MotherMole that’s so frustrating!
Have you been drinking enough water? Low carbs definitely helps me. I don’t cut them out all together but I’ll only have them once a day. Im also eating more veggie meals and lots of fruit. Keep going. I bet it will drop off in a big clunk suddenly.

MotherMole · 15/01/2022 11:59

Thanks for your reply @Daisy829

Im really good at drinking, about 3-4 litres of water a day. I really like water so that helps.

I've been measuring myself too. Although the weight has increased I've actually lost inches from my waist and hips Smile Plus my jeans feel a bit more comfortable... so that's pepped me up a bit.

I'm hoping you're right - that it will drop off suddenly. I'll keep going and resist the urge to eat all the chocolate in the house. Grin

Daisy829 · 15/01/2022 12:20

That’s great about the inches coming off. Also I bet you feel so much better doing the exercise. Keep going 👍

Daisy829 · 15/01/2022 12:21

I’ve just been out for a run. I managed 25 mins on week 6 of couch to 5k. I nearly died 🤣 feels good that it though.

MotherMole · 15/01/2022 12:29

Well done for your run @Daisy829 Are you building up to 5k?

I'm starting to get faster again now, after a very sluggish pace in December. I do love running, really helps me feel happy Smile

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/01/2022 13:01

Keep at it @MotherMole! Could hormones be playing a part? I'm always a little heavier in the run up to my period. Great idea to measure the inches.

Well done on the run @Daisy829 ! I got to the end of week 7 late last year and I remember what an incredible feeling that week 6 run was. I have gone back to week 5 though to build back up.

Daisy829 · 15/01/2022 13:15

Yes I’m building up to it. I did it in lockdown then lost my mojo so I started again but half way through. Its interesting that I managed the 10 mins of week 6 fine so I guess there is still something there in my body enabling me to do it but the 25 mins was hard. My DD came with me too on her bike so it was actually nice to get out together.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/01/2022 13:55

"Yep 1200 isn’t sustainable long term. It’s a toddler allowance! Try this calculator and then just manually input what it gives you into Nutracheck.
Calorie counting isn’t supposed to be a punishment, it’s better to have your full allowance smile

www.jamessmithacademy.com/macro-calculator/"

That link gave me 1200 calories.

Daisy829 · 16/01/2022 09:35

Week 2 weigh in. 7lb off in total. Still another 1st 7lb to go (minimum). Nutracheck is telling me I should be there by mid April which doesn’t seem too far away.

Milliways · 16/01/2022 10:06

Well I think I should have delayed starting until next week as this weekend has been really bad! I had a lovely lunch on Friday but my friend cooked up a whole Chinese Feast, and sent me home with loads for DH, then yesterday we were at my parents and had a (healthy but lots and added sides) curry, and today friends are taking us to a pub for Sunday lunch.
Anyway, I will skip breakfast and get back to it properly after the pub. I did have a very good start to the week so hopefully the overall week will still be a net loss. Just a shame that so meany treat days came together! Lots of catching up with people going on here.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Well done @Daisy829 that’s brilliant! I’ve only lost about a pound but my fitness is definitely improving and I’ve had easier weekends which has made it easier to be stricter in the week.
