Anyone else with 10st plus to lose?

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/12/2021 11:07

Im 30 and I weigh 19st 7lb.

Ideally I'd like to lose 10st. I'm obese and I hate it.
I started again dieting yesterday.

I can only manage 5000 steps a day due to being disabled, and I do those with a frame.

I'm hopeful that if I lose the weight there'll be less pressure on my already buggered joints.

Anyone else with a lot to lose would you like a daily check in thread with me?

I've feeling super organised! I've planned my food for the next few days and made a shopping list. I love the suggestion to get some frozen ready meals, because when I have a bad pain day and can't cook I usually get a takeaway.

Wow! 6 stone in a year is amazing! Have you had any wobbles in terms of focus or have you just been on it all year?

@DollyDingleberry
I'm covering my ears at how you're still producing stones! I'm only 3 weeks post gallbladder removal Grin

First WI of 2022 and I lost 1.3kg which is awesome.

I have MFP calories set at a 0.5kg a week loss but don't count any exercise cals and (taken with a pinch of salt) that usually adds 4-500 cals a day (so an extra 0.5kg loss if the science works that week!)[/quote]
I've not been 100% all year. I've had days off, weekends off.

But I just make sure I'm straight back on it.

Consistency over perfection ❤️

RunningInTheWind · 04/01/2022 13:46

Joining you - the username is ironic. I don’t run and I’d not get blown over in a typhoon!

I lost 8 stone 15 years ago and my fucking rude scales claim I’ve put 6.5 back on. I knew a lot had gone on because I’m not daft…

So here we are. I’m demanding of myself that I can eat virtually whatever I like - assuming it’s nutritiously sound - and is not a giant’s portion.

Lots of coffee today, couple of boiled eggs with Mayo and some home made sauerkraut.

Home made soup and bread tonight.

HerRoyalHappiness · 04/01/2022 13:49

I've still not eaten! I've been so busy I've just nit had chance. Going to sit down with a brew and a ham salad wrap before I have to collect the kids from school. DD is at after school club, and there's no point bringing DS2 home as by the time we get here we have to leave again to get DD, so I'll take him to the park near school. Let him burn off some energy.

Can I join in too please?

Weighed myself this morning and am 25 stone 8 lbs absolute heaviest I've ever been!

Going through a major depressive episode ATM but have to do something about this

Problem is I have a lot of issues surrounding 'healthy' food, taste, texture and traumatic memories of being forced to eat whatever I was given as a kid even if I didn't like it!

Trying to work out which plan is best for me to follow but have NO IDEA 😭

HerRoyalHappiness · 04/01/2022 15:36

@Mumof2catsandpdakid perhaps start by just mindfully eating. Putting food on a smaller plate, sitting at a table rather than in front of the TV, taking a bit of time to really chew and savour your food. Listen to your bodies signals and try to work out what's real hunger and what's an emotional urge, perhaps writing down when you feel hungry and what has gone on just before will help you to see if you're hungry or not.
This is how I started before I joined teamRH. I was getting used to my bodies signals and coming away from binge eating

Oh please don’t worry! I still produce stones as one of the many lovely side effects of PCOS. I had my gall bladder removed aged 18 before my PCOS diagnosis and no one thought to enquire WHY a healthy but only slightly fat 18 year old had gallstones Hmm... it was a year later when my bile duct completely blocked that they figured out that removing my gall bladder wasn’t stopping the mechanism by which I was producing stones. It does for most people!

It was 10 years later and after a lot of fertility issues that I got my quite severe PCOS diagnosis and the GP said ‘OH. This explains the gallstones’ and everything made sense! Explained the beard too Grin

@DollyDingleberry it's awful how women are treated by medical professionals. We're just ignored a lot of the time and told we'll be fine ots just part of being a woman.
I got told by a GP that it was normal to flood a tampon and a maxi pad every hour. Hmm

So I’m 9 months post partum, and I’ve bled heavily (I wear reusable pads and pants now but back in the day I was going through a massive maternity pad in 2 hours) every day since he was born. I pass clots about 2 inches wide and long that look like pieces of liver many times a day. On 3 iron tablets per day, my iron levels are dangerously low. My first appointment at the GP to investigate was 8/6/2021. It took until October to get a blood test, and my ultrasound is on 15th Jan. in that time, my iron levels have more than halved and I’ve been getting steadily more poorly.

The reason I was given the whole time was ‘it’s just your periods settling down’ until my iron dropped low enough for them to panic. It’s honestly unbelievable. If you were bleeding uncontrollably from any other body part you’d be in hospital.

ShinyPikachu · 04/01/2022 19:27

Welcome @Mumof2catsandpdakid and un-mumsnetty hugs to you. I hope you find something that works for you. If there's anything we can all help with then please just ask. Smile

My youngest DD has suspected ASD (we're in the horribly long wait for CAMHS at the moment) and has a lot of issues with textures and tastes of foods so it's something I take into account when I'm cooking for us all with all of the foods she won't touch.

It's actually one reason I'm just doing basic calorie counting now. It's a lot more flexible for me to have foods for all of us that way and I just weigh/measure my portions. When I was on SW there were times I was cooking two different things every night and one thing can be exhausting enough!

I'm doing ok with my cals today. Although my lunch was 5 Celebrations and a packet of crisps and I just had some Shreddies for breakfast. Blush

Dinner has been much better though, chicken breast with thick gravy, baby potatoes and sweetcorn. Although not as much corn as I would normally have as both DC who only ever eat carrots as veg both asked for corn tonight. I thought I was getting a huge portion to myself but was just a couple of spoons of it instead.

I'll need to double check I haven't missed anything but still have around 500 calories left for today so might have a small treat before bed if I feel like it. Might even have a beer. Grin

HerRoyalHappiness · 04/01/2022 19:33

@DollyDingleberry that's awful. They'd have us in hospital receiving transfusions if we bled from anywhere else. But we're just lowly women Hmm @ShinyPikachu trying to get a child assessed for autism is a nightmare. I'm autistic and have an autistic son. He's only 6, but it was a pain in the arse trying to get anyone to listen to me. It took me filming a meltdown and his (lack of) interaction during play for them to listen, because he masks in school.
I also have an ADD daughter who has selective mutism too. She's away with the fairies most of the time Grin
My oldest is neurotypical and often tells people he's the odd one out as we're all neurodiverse.

Thanks @HerRoyalHappiness I'm definitely learning the pain of waiting. We've had to recently contact them again so as well as the ASD diagnosis she's on the list with them for anxiety as well now. I actually had suspicions about her as growing up she reminded me so much of how my cousin used to play (especially at pre-school age) and he ended up being diagnosed with Aspergers (although I know they don't use that term now but it's what he was told at the time). My cousin actually lived with us for a short time as a child during a cross-country house move so I saw his behaviour a lot and my DD was exactly the same many years later. I brought it up with my health visitor who told me I was imagining things and she was fine. She's now 13 and most definitely not fine. Puberty and changing to secondary school have kicked off a whole load of issues and it's rare for her to actually go to school, and when she does she rarely stays. It's mostly anxiety over other people and noise sensitivity but both have caused major panic attacks and even fainting episodes. I just wish I hadn't believed the health visitor and stood my ground at the time.

It has made me look at myself and even my eldest DD too and it's made me wonder if we possibly also have it but we've just been able to mask a lot better through the years. It would certainly explain a lot about me, and weirdly I was having a conversation with my SIL at Christmas and we're actually both wondering if it's undiagnosed in my DM as well. It's not something we could ever suggest to her though. She didn't even want me to go for a diagnosis for DD because "she'll be labelled forever". Angry

Anyway. enough of me derailing the thread for now. 🙈🤣

HerRoyalHappiness · 04/01/2022 19:52

@ShinyPikachu it is often genetic.
My mum has it too. She was only diagnosed 3 months ago, at 51!
I was diagnosed at 26, but much like your DD it was puberty and the change to high school that really showed how different I was to the other children.
Like you my mum had tried to get help for me since I was tiny, asking the health visitor what she could do because although I was bright I wasn't socially adept. She said I was fine and my mum was worrying too much. Then she tried again when I was a teenager and things got worse and the GP said I was just depressed because of bullying... Hmm so when I finally got myself diagnosed 4 years ago it was a massive relief and made me realise I'm not an awful person, I struggle with friendships because I'm autistic. I spent my life thinking I was odd, bad, a terrible friend etc.

Hi all, hope everyone is ok.

So sorry you’re having to wait @ShinyPikachu girls do tend to get diagnosed later sometimes as they sometimes can can mask/cope and it’s really hard. Hope you get the help she needs. Well done on your day.

@HerRoyalHappiness hope you had a nice time at the park. Thanks again for having me onboard here.

@Katyppp I am also doing WW and loving it. It’s the only thing that’s worked for me previously.

Good day here, within points and lots of healthy stuff. Working on reducing my sugar intake quite a lot.

HerRoyalHappiness · 04/01/2022 20:07

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 we did thanks. He saw his best friends mum with his friends littke sister and insisted I ask if his best friend can come for tea on Friday Grin so we have a friend coming Friday!

@HerRoyalHappiness That's so weird how similar your story is to what we're going through. I'm really lucky with DD's school as her head of house and deputy headteacher are both absolutely amazing with her and they've been really accommodating when she has issues in class. I honestly think it was down to them with how quickly we got a CAMHS referral after speaking to the doctor about everything. It's just the horrible waiting times once you're on the list that is our issue now. I know DM would never believe us never mind go for a diagnosis herself (she won't even go to an optician and is just wearing those cheap magnifying reading glasses you find in bargain shops) but I'm still debating it for myself now. I don't know if it would change much for me tbh, I'm 40 now and work flexibly for myself already anyway because of my health issues. I just feel with the reading I've done about it to understand what DD is going through I'm finding a lot of myself in things I've read, and I did the same thing before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I had friends online with it and every time they mentioned symptoms I thought "isn't that the same for everyone because I'm like that too." Turns out it wasn't normal for me to feel like that.

ShinyPikachu · 04/01/2022 20:15

Thanks @hopingforabrighterfuture2021 Smile

I did go back and check and I forgot a couple of coffees and a couple of squares of chocolate when I was working online earlier but I still have 428 calories left for today. I might just have that beer (maybe two), although they're DH's so I'll have to buy him more when I go shopping tomorrow to make up for nicking them. 🤣

HerRoyalHappiness · 04/01/2022 20:17

@ShinyPikachu yeah, I get what you're saying. For me it was piece of mind. I needed to know.
My mum left it a couple of years before going for her own diagnosis as she was thinking it through, deciding whether or not she should.

OP posts:
DuckWithOneWing · 04/01/2022 20:35

I've had a very productive but exhausting day! I wrote my shopping list, then stuck to it firmly. I must've looked a bit strange in the supermarket as I was checking my list so carefully! Then I came home and cooked soup for tonight, whilst simultaneously making breakfast and lunch for tomorrow. It was a bit hectic at times. I've made sweet potato, tofu and courgette soup for tonight and have 3 portions left for now (my partner will definitely eat some of them). It's really nice, and makes 4 portions at around 300 calories each. Then I've got overnight oats for tomorrow's breakfast, and attempted frittata for lunch but it went a bit wrong. I missed the "serves 4" so got to the part about adding eggs and went Shock that's far too many! I'd already improvised and added mushrooms because some needed using up in the fridge. So the veg to egg ratio is completely wrong, and it turned into more of a mess than a frittata.

@ShinyPikachu well done for having so many calories left at the end! I love crisps and have them everyday so your lunch sounds tasty.

@RunningInTheWind I lost 7 stone a few years ago and put it all back on (and more) so you're not alone. But at least we know we can do it!

@Mumof2catsandpdakid could you just try logging your food? Don't make any changes just yet, but keep track of what you eat using pen and paper, My Fitness Pal or one of the other apps suggested. Then you know where you're starting and can try to reduce your calories from there. That way you're not trying to eat specific healthy food but are just having smaller portions of what you usually have. Over time you can start to make healthier choices but you don't need to jump in the deep end straight away.

Oh, and the best part of my day was that I opened a yoghurt and the lid came off without leaving any yoghurt on the lid.

stackhead · 04/01/2022 21:14

@DollyDingleberry
I'm both relieved for me and horrified for you! I had a blocked bile duct (caused jaundice) during the whole gallbladder saga and it was not nice.

I second what @DuckWithOneWing says @Mumof2catsandpdakid - just try logging your food first, try and get away from "healthy" vs "not healthy" and just look at calories intake. You could lose weight eating pizza if it's all within your calorie allowance.

Another day on point with calories and 10k steps done.

We do gousto boxes so I've logged my evening meals for the week so I know what I've got to work with for breakfast and lunch. Need to go raid and the freezer for some leftovers for lunch tomorrow as it'll be cooooold.

ShinyPikachu · 04/01/2022 22:08

Having a second beer before bed and still have cals left. I'm happy with that although definitely need to up the fruit and veg each day once I've been shopping.

I was quite surprised that a 440ml can of lager is only 134 calories. I always had it in my head that it was much higher. I'm usually a wine drinker but I drink beer a lot slower so when I'm out on Friday I might stick to pints, a draught pint is 170 cals compared to 188 in a large dry white wine, not a huge difference but I'll drink one or two pints in the same time as 3 or 4 wines so that can get really bad for me. Blush

Anyone else with 10st plus to lose?
HerRoyalHappiness · 04/01/2022 22:13

@ShinyPikachu I know what you mean. I drink vodka and coke, and it goes down like pop... luckily I only drink at Christmas!

DollyDingleberry · 05/01/2022 16:24

Afternoon all,

Good day here. I've stuck to the food I had planned and have Parmesan crusted chicken for dinner which I'm looking forwards to.

WW is totally different to how I remember it - I'm definitely being steered towards non-starchy veg and proper 'food' rather than gaming points with low calorie, low nutrient dense food which is how i remember the plan of old. You can't do that now, all the old favorites like pink wafers, baked crisps etc are all pretty expensive on points now because they're so low in protein and high in sat fat/ sugar. It makes a lot more sense from a nutrition perspective.

You points budget is high enough though with weekly points that if I want a bit of junk in the week I can, and if I find myself in the red I can earn points back with exercise and by eating non starchy veg/ drinking enough water. There's also plenty of 0 point foods so I'm not running out of points.

I'm still skeptical, but so far I'm a lot more comfortable on this plan than i was on the old one years ago and I'm definitely feeling less restricted than LCHF which was my other option. Slimming World is too high in carbs for me (PCOS causes insulin resistance) unfortunately.

How is everyone else doing?

ShinyPikachu · 05/01/2022 16:39

I've had another day of a filling breakfast and just a small snack for lunch. I'm getting increasingly tempted to have a takeaway tonight so I'm going to go start preparing something for dinner now so I won't want to waste it. Never did go shopping today like I'd planned as I'm having a bad pain day and DH has a day off tomorrow so he can go do the shopping instead.

I'm thinking of just making tomato pasta but DD2 won't touch tomatoes so I'd need to make something else for her. If I did a big batch of the pasta though I could reheat it later if I'm not up for cooking on other days too so it would be good in the long run for me at least and DH could take some to work so he's not going to the pizza place across the road every day on his break as well. Smile

HerRoyalHappiness · 05/01/2022 17:01

I'm making home made vegetable soup for tea with crusty bread

But I really want pizza
