@Knittingnanny how are you feeling?

@Sooverthemill sorry to hear your DD had a bad day, but I'm a big advocate of rest/sleep helping your body heal so I am glad to hear she's getting some rest (which hopefully means you can too!)

@Morningmaeve how are you getting on? braved the scales this morning?

Yesterday was not great, but could always have been worse! Far too many cappuccinos, breakfast was an almond croissant (worth a billion calories). I left the salad I'd prepared at home, so bought sushi instead of a sandwich. No dinner as all the coffee suppressed my appetite. Had a banana late last night.

Today:
B - nothing
L - halloumi salad
D - tofu stirfry (no noodles)

Pleasantly surprised by my weigh in this morning:
9st12.2 which is the same as it was last week

I'll absolutely take that since scales had been showing10st+ in the week

Good luck to everyone weighing in today.

and a quick check in with @neverenoughchelseaboots how are things progressing?

neverenoughchelseaboots · 22/10/2021 09:42

Hey everyone 👋, still here and reading all your updates.

@purplegirl13 I'm going to try your soup recipe, I'm definitely feeling the autumnal change

@Sooverthemill as always, I think you're doing brilliantly to even consider your own diet when you have so much on your shoulders.

@Knittingnanny fingers crossed you stick to mild symptoms. I'd stopped watching the news or tracking numbers because it was making me too anxious. But feeling a bit better now that I'm towards the end and if I delivered the baby now it would be the end of the world.

I'm doing well thank you for asking @purplegirl13. Still been a bumpy ride throughout but generally everything turns out okay in the end. Let's hope it stays that way. Final month now! 😬. I don't think I'll be allowed to go over my due date this time so it really is looming.

Hi to all the unfamiliar names - I'll be back in a few weeks. I'm jumping on the scales the moment the baby is out so that I have a nice high starting weight to make the progress look better 😂

@neverenoughchelseaboots so lovely to see you back (albeit briefly!)
I am also avoiding the news/numbers as it's so incredibly sad, and makes me feel scared for what the rest of the year will look like. Very few people wearing masks here in London, I had my booster last week which makes me feel a little 'safer'.

Sorry to hear the pregnancy hasn't been smooth sailing, but not much longer to go.

This is another soup I like and will be making at some point this weekend www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/mushroom-soup

@Morningmaeve your comment about water intake the other day was a timely reminder. I'm up to 1.5l so far

I'm going to have a glass of this shortly www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/bottlegreen-spiced-berry-cordial/661889-93974-93975 and pretend it's a mulled wine

Knittingnanny · 22/10/2021 17:18

I’m feeling a bit rougher today but not bad enough to stay in bed if you see what I mean. Husband is positive as well now so isolating together with drop off food parcels from the adult children planned in!
Always a teacher, I’ve planned our day to avoid boredom or too much inactivity! Piano practice followed by sorting out and ripping up a jumble of paperwork. Then we started the last 1000 piece puzzle left over from the first lockdown
Still both have a good appetite so duck pancakes for tea
Will have a food cupboard tidy up tomorrow and maybe make a cake !

purplegirl13 · 22/10/2021 17:24

@knittingnanny I LOVE that you made a plan for the dayGrin

Knittingnanny · 22/10/2021 17:36

@purplegirl13 once a teacher always a teacher! I’ve very flexible though! I still need structure to my retired person day though, still am very “ seasonal” etc.
Couldn’t do our Friday childcare today though or next Friday either. I might be running out of timetabled events by day 10
Husband is one day behind me because he was convinced he had just a cold.

Morningmaeve · 23/10/2021 08:40

Hello all - lovely to hear from @neverenoughchelseaboots. Glad you aren’t feeling too bad @Knittingnanny. I am waiting for the results of a pcr test now. @purplegirl13 I have dropped a bit more weight and really do think drinking 1.5-2 litres of water a day is making a difference. 8 stone 13.2.

Knittingnanny · 23/10/2021 11:25

I spoke too soon, feeling dreadful today ( day 4/5) but thankfully only from the throat upwards! May have to send out for icecream!
Calories don’t count during illness do they?
Covid calories = negative number?

purplegirl13 · 23/10/2021 12:49

@Morningmaeve fingers crossed the pcr is negative, keep us posted how exciting you're edging even closing to 8st12 Smile

@Knittingnanny oh no! definitely get an ice cream delivery, the calories won't count.

Yesterday was the first day in ages where I stuck to my meal plan, now to continue on that path.

B - nothing
L - broccoli & stilton soup (have made a double batch as it freezes well)
D - leftover tofu stirfry, and I'm planning on making apple crumble for dessert.

purplegirl13 · 24/10/2021 17:36

Stuck to plan yesterday, although ate half a tub of custard in the afternoon

Went to the flower market this morning bought some gorgeous gerberas, and I walked lots so ending the day with with 12k steps

B/L - poached eggs, on avocado & toast, plus some halloumi
D - salad with veggie 'kebab' pieces.
No snacks as I've napped most of the afternoon

I must stay on track this week, would love to get down to a healthy bmi (9st6.2) by the end of the year, or as close as I can to it (currently 9st12.2)

purplegirl13 · 25/10/2021 11:26

@Morningmaeve did you get the test result back?

@Knittingnanny how are you feeling this morning?

@Sooverthemill thinking of you

B - greek yogurt with bluerries/honey/flaked almonds
L - mushroom soup
D - salad with 2 boiled eggs
S - apple, if needed

Knittingnanny · 25/10/2021 12:30

Still feeling very rough and I think I’m on day 6/7 of it now. Don’t think it’s getting worse though so fingers crossed!
I seem to have lost some sense of taste but not for everything which is weird.
My appetite hasn’t gone and I’ve abandoned calorie counting til after my 10 day isolation
Rainy here today so can’t sit in the back garden pretend cafe!
@Morningmaeve are you ok?

purplegirl13 · 25/10/2021 13:32

@Knittingnanny oh that sounds rubbish but good it doesn't seem to be getting worse.

It was beautifully sunny here this morning but grey clouds are looming

Knittingnanny · 25/10/2021 15:37

It stopped raining just now so we did have a pot of tea in the garden
Yes my biggest fear re covid is it going onto my chest as I am slightly asthmatic and when I’ve had bronchitis in the past have felt ghastly

Morningmaeve · 25/10/2021 17:12

My covid result was negative I am pleased to say. Glad to hear you are doing okay @Knittingnanny - hopefully you are over the worst of it.

Knittingnanny · 25/10/2021 17:20

That’s good news! My neighbour is now positive, I hope Covid didn’t waft over our fence when we were in the garden pretending to be at the cafe!

purplegirl13 · 25/10/2021 17:24

@morningmaeve phew

@knittingnanny glad you got to sit outside for a bit

Sooverthemill · 26/10/2021 13:30

@neverenoughchelseaboots so nice to see you! Sorry it’s been a rough pregnancy. Hope all goes well now
@Knittingnanny I hope you are okay. You must take care of yourself ( pot calling kettle black here) and don’t push yourself at all. Netflix and a good book are enough.
Thank you to all for the good wishes. DD was so unwell last week GP wouldn’t allow a blood test so that happened this morning. She is still very unwell and sleeping badly and I feel unwell too ( we’ve done covid tests snd it’s not that). I think I am exhausted. She has some ‘b’ symptoms of cancer but of course everyone does! But it’s a huge worry. I’m starting today with a healthy eating plan for myself as I need my body to function well. So usual granola and yoghurt for breakfast) gluten and lactose free) and falafel and salad for lunch. I think baked potato and baked beans tonight as that’s comfort food for me but still fairly balanced. I’m trying to make DD her vegan meals from scratch when I have time. Old dog is very poorly too and DH and I fear the worst for him

Knittingnanny · 26/10/2021 16:39

@Sooverthemill I’m so sorry to hear about your extra stress x I am definitely looking forward to meeting you in real life when we rebook our miniature cottage in the Spring. I’m feeling slightly better soda ( day 7) So hopefully this is as bad as it’s going to get.
Chilli con carne for tea to kill the bug with spice and more ice cream for pudding to soothe the throat!

Knittingnanny · 26/10/2021 16:39

Then I’m going to watch the bake off tonight and see how they get on with Choux pastry as mine is always a failure

purplegirl13 · 26/10/2021 18:03

@Sooverthemill I'm not surprised to hear you are exhausted! Hopefully your DD's results will show what is going on. In matters like this, l find the uncertainty and waiting difficult. When do you think you'll get the results back by?

I agree you should eat to nourish your body, but it's easier said than done. I say that as someone who suffers from fatigue/ occasional flare ups of medical condition. Go for quick/low effort. I've recently remembered how convenient bags of stirfry mixes are for a quick, healthy dinner.

@knittingnanny yay to you feeling slightly better. Here's hoping tomorrow brings more of the same. I've never tried to make choux pastry and not sure l should until I'm a slim 8st something

purplegirl13 · 26/10/2021 18:06

Another day and I've stuck to plan

B - Greek yogurt, blueberries
L - mushroom soup, with rye crackers/houmous
D - rice, dal, carrots stirfried with Indian spices

Sooverthemill · 26/10/2021 19:16

Blood results usually back next day. They aren't complicated, just White blood cells, lymphocytes and RCP. If they are showing a trend up then that's when the medics get all aeriated. Last time it took 6 months of me saying 'she's not right, outside her normal not right' and a sensible GP sharing bloods with a haematologist who could spot a trend. Very very slow climb. It's very hard because when you've had a blood cancer it very often comes back especially when a child initially and with any cancer survivor you are on the look out. Apparently most people with a second cancer spot it before the medics do. And DD is too ill to go to major hospital which is our cancer hub for the 6 months check ups. We rely on blood tests
Sorry TMI

purplegirl13 · 26/10/2021 19:22

@Sooverthemill No such thing as tmi here

Ok, that makes more sense now if you're not able to get to the hospital for regular checks ups. You know what's normal and what's not, here's hoping you've got an understanding GP to take your concerns on board

purplegirl13 · 26/10/2021 19:27

I absolutely get that as a cancer survivor yourself, you're on the lookout for symptoms and know that time is often of the essence in catching things early. If you don't advocate for yourself or DD, who will? But it's a tiring journey with everything you've already got on your plate. Do post on here about your DD and updates, we will listen and support x
