Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

@ThinWomansBrain I do that too in weighing myself when I figure I’m at my absolute lightest in the day…otherwise I just get demotivated. I’ve been really enjoying the carbonated mineral water all day today. Still OMADing. The water was at least something different from the tedious coffees and teas. Felt a bit more cleansing too. I’m going for a swim next week with an old friend so that’s another incentive not to look too too lardy in the swimsuit. Still more than a stone to lose but today I managed to wear a pair of cropped trousers that last summer looked abominable or rather I looked abominable in them (belly area specifically). Today they fitted quite nicely so I’m really pleased I didn’t donate them away last year in a fit of lockdown pique.

PioneerWoman · 15/06/2021 10:34

Congrats re fitting in trousers Babymamamama, that’s got to feel good. I am too scared to try on clothes, need to lose some more blubber first.

I love ratatouille ThinWomansBrain never tried it cold but I am putting it on the menu for Friday.

More chicken and salad today, luckily I don’t get bored eating the same thing.

steppemum · 15/06/2021 10:57

Ok, so my thoughts from today.

I am HUNGRY. All flipping morning I have been going in to the kitchen and then saying -no, no snacks. I am really busy, so it isn't distraction, my tummy is rumbling and I want FOOD.
I had breakfast, 2 weetabix and a nectarine, so a good amount of food, and I've drunk several cups fo tea, but no, my tummy is asking for food.

So, here is whatI am thinking. Every time my tummy rumbles, I am convincing myself that my body needs energy, so if it can't get it from a biscuit it will have to get it from some of those fat deposits.

Rumbles = body losing weight.

Still rumbling, but now the rumbles are making me think I am losing weight.

(how long exactly is it til lunch time?...)

sandwiches77 · 15/06/2021 12:33

Not long till lunch time....

Salad for lunch today Grin

Chicken and cauliflower rice for tea

MareofBeasttown · 15/06/2021 14:11

May I join? I am 49,5"7 and a size 12, lost a stone over the past year but want to lose half a stone more as all my weight is around my tummy. Have lost inches everywhere else but my belly.

Carbs are my downfall; have cut out sugar and alcohol easily. So far today had strawberries and a spinach omelette. Dinner is chicken stirfry and rice, and I will have to have cauli rice ( which I hate:(

herbaceous · 15/06/2021 14:52

I've realised one big reason I'm not losing weight - DP does a lot of the cooking. And we don't meal plan. So I'm at the mercy of his choices, as am lazy enough to just let him crack on with it.

Maybe OMAD is the answer, then I can't really lose. Or I could just be a bit more proactive about the whole thing...

PioneerWoman · 15/06/2021 15:17

MareofBeasttown of course you can join, everyone is welcome. You are right to do something before you end up with 2+ stone to lose. If I ever lose this weight I will weigh weekly and take action when I gain 4 lbs.

I tried on some dresses, I looked like Ma Larkin, not the effect I was going for. 7 lbs has made no difference to clothes. My fancy lunch may be cancelled now in any case not sure what the lockdown rules are, there were a dozen of us.

herbaceous unfortunately you will have to make changes if you want to lose weight. Clear out junk in cupboards, meal plan, grocery shop. It’s a complete bore.

herbaceous · 15/06/2021 15:28

It's funny isn't it. I was all 'I just DON'T KNOW' why I can't lose weight, while having three-day weekends and not doing any meal planning. Just takes a teensy bit of self-reflection to make me realise what an arse I'm being.

PioneerWoman · 15/06/2021 15:45

You’re not an arse, you probably just go with the flow and aren’t self obsessed which is lovely. It’s just a bit of reorganising what you think you can eat and enjoy eating to lose weight if you want to. For me it’s Mediterranean type food.

AnnaCharles888 · 15/06/2021 16:03

@ThinWomansBrain, @Readytostartagain and anyone else who's interested (everyone welcome), as promised here's a zoom link to a session I'll be holding this Thursday 17 June from 7:30pm with the nifty title: 'Why It Feels So Hard to Lose Weight (And What to Do About It)'

I am no expert, at all. Not a nutritionist. But one thing that worked for me was actually looking at the calorie counts of some things that seemed quite innocent. For instance, I ate two Hobnobs every morning with my coffee because I thought they were oat based, so how bad could they be? Quite bad, as it turned out. I have now switched to one Rich Tea lite. Yeah, it's no fun!
I don't calorie count on a daily basis, I just looked up some foods I eat daily to see what I was finding it so hard to lose weight.

Babymamamama · 15/06/2021 18:18

@steppemum I use the same strategy with tummy rumbles during the day trying to embrace them rather than seeing them as anything that needs to be acted on. This switch of mentality is really helping me to stick on the OMAD and I do find sipping on liquid really can stave the cravings. Just had my one meal of the day this time baked beans on cheese on toast plus a banana and a mini magnum. Very basic but I’ve been doing the salad plus protein for days and I really fancied a bit of stodge. The weight is still coming off me so for now OMAD is working for me slowly but surely. No other diet has ever been this impactful for me.

herbaceous · 15/06/2021 19:27

When I did the 5:2 I'd feel the same about tummy rumbles. I liked to imagine I could feel the fat being melted away...

steppemum · 15/06/2021 19:40

Yes that's it exactly Grin

mind you when I finally did eat lunchit was bagels and cheese, which was not the healthy option I had intended.

Chelsea567 · 15/06/2021 21:33

Sorry to be thick what is OMAD?

PioneerWoman · 15/06/2021 22:24

Chelsea567 one meal a day. I think.

Chelsea567 · 15/06/2021 22:32

@PioneerWoman thank you! That sounds terrible Grin

ThinWomansBrain · 15/06/2021 22:52

ahh, OMAD had me puzzled too
doesn't sound very sensible
I was reading steppemum's post about being hungry, thankful I don't get that, but I think I would if I only ate once a day - and probably eat more when I did.
Totally fed up with never being able to read food labels in the supermarket. I caved in, and very 'old lady' bought myself a magnifying glass. It folds into the case to protect the glass, and has a light as well.
I've not used it out yet, but it was brilliant to decipher some teeny weeny print on an instruction leaflet,

Chelsea567 · 15/06/2021 22:55

@ThinWomansBrain loving the magnifying glass! What a great ideaSmileSmile

MareofBeasttown · 16/06/2021 07:50

OMAD would not work for me but I try to do 16:8 and that helps. Tho quite often I find that tough too.

Readytostartagain · 16/06/2021 09:09

@AnnaCharles888 many thanks for the zoom link

RickOShay · 16/06/2021 09:09

Right I’m back in the saddle today.
Doing 16:8.
Have the old rumbles but I’m not caving. Cup of tea and a bit of crap yoga later. Hope you all have a positive day Flowers

sunshineandlollypops · 16/06/2021 10:06

Hi. Can I join? I had my thyroid out due to cancer a few years ago and I have put on about 10kgs. I have lost weight before, only to pile it back on.
This past Monday I started IF 16/8. So far so good, but I really need this group for encouragement. I'm hoping it will be easier to shed the unwanted kgs as I team.
Thank you all.

PioneerWoman · 16/06/2021 11:28

Welcome sunshineandlollypops, I have the same amount to lose, I think a few of us are doing 16/8 IF. Lots of different plans on here. Everyone’s very friendly.

I am so used to skipping breakfast now that I just don’t feel hungry until 1 pm. I think it will get easier for those with rumbles. Had two strict days but no difference on the scales.

Asparagus and a poached egg for lunch. Probably chicken and salad (again) for dinner. No wine in the house so having Becks Blue.

Have a good day everyone.

PioneerWoman · 16/06/2021 12:00

DH lost 3 lbs yesterday. We ate the same except he had much bigger portions and two slices of rye bread and 3 real ales! It’s the menopause I guess, hormones messing everything up.
