Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

Oh yes Smile
Yep. Start over tomorrow

Weekends are my downfall. And as they're three days long, tend to outweigh any good I do during the week.

AnnaCharles888 · 13/06/2021 09:05

@herbaceous why are weekends your downfall?

steppemum · 13/06/2021 13:34

Make them shorter. I know that sounds silly, but if for your it is Friday, Saturday, Sunday, then change it. Tell yourself you can have Friday and Saturday, but Sunday is back on track. Or the other way, you are not allowed to start weekend eating until Saturday after lunch. Or make Monday a fast day.

In the end (and believe me I am talking to myself here) we HAVE to go one step outside our comfort zone to make it happen, so choose where that step is for you.
Just one step. We don't have to change everything.

steppemum · 13/06/2021 13:36

Right now my one step is no snacking.

I can't do diet meals and no snacking all at once, so I am starting with no snacking, I have to wait until the next meal. Not allowed to take anything out of THAT cupboard....

herbaceous · 13/06/2021 13:55

That's a very good question!

I guess as it's the traditional time to let down the hair. Friday night has always been 'yay - let's get pissed and have a curry', Sunday is roast day, and Saturday is 'trying new things out of the Feast supplement' day. For me to piss on chips bu only eating one meal a day, or coming over all cats-bum mouth and saying 'no carbs for me' seems joyless.

My partner would see it as a reflection in his eating habits, and I'd be afraid of teaching son that women have to be on diets.

Maybe I just need to stop being such a wimp.

herbaceous · 13/06/2021 14:00

Posted before I saw steppemum's post. You're right - for change there has to be some discomfort! I did used to fast on Mondays, but it's tricky when in a school.

I've taken to having no breakfast on weekend days in some atonement for the nice meal the night before.

steppemum · 13/06/2021 14:11

interesting herbaceous. especially what you say about rest of family.

I am sure if I was living on my own I would be able to lose weight. So much of my issue is that I am cooking for 5, 2 of whom need/want high carb meals.
The whole thing about Mum being on a diet as well.

I guess the other way of looking at it is that my kids see me and think it is OK to be fat. (really isn't, pretty unhealthy at my weight) and look at me eating snacks and think that is normal way to eat.

herbaceous · 13/06/2021 14:18

I've put on two stone since being with my partner. Admittedly we met 18 years ago, but still... before him I'd go to the gym three times a week, and if not going to the gym would have soup or a salad for dinner.

He's quite overweight, and always has been, but I'm not allowed to mention it.

We do eat very healthily. Mostly vegetarian, lots of fruit, no snacks really, everything cooked from scratch, etc etc. I have bits of cake when offered by someone else, once a month or something, as want to model being normal!

Son says 'you're not fat mummy, you're lovely' which is sweet but not accurate.

ThinWomansBrain · 13/06/2021 15:16

Try and frame it an a new way of eating, rather than a diet?

Feeling a bit dispirited because of a few more days of mu weight plateau-ing, actually gone up despite low carb and eating sensibly Hmm
I met a friend in the street on the way home this afternoon (also overweight) who was telling me that he had a heart attack three weeks ago - he looked well, is recovering and says he feels fine now - but did stop me commiserating the gain with a bar of chocolate.

PioneerWoman · 13/06/2021 16:25

My fat is mainly around my middle, I don’t want to have a stroke or heart attack. I also am sick of not being able to wear any of my clothes and living in pants (I have 4 identical pairs) with a stretchy waistband. I am going to keep trying but yeah it is harder to lose at this age no question, we are not imagining it.

I have never been slim, always on the heavier end of normal tipping in to overweight. But my weight was always on bum and thighs, not tummy.

Sadly, now, I realise that the weight I've gained in the last few years is all on my tummy.

I find it so hard to diet, it is so boring, and takes up so much head space. But like you I really don't want anything health related to be because I'm overweight.
I did the calculator yesterday and my BMI is 35 Shock
So I am determined to stick to it this time.

sandwiches77 · 13/06/2021 22:12

Hi, 50 soon, seriously overweight (15 stone and short) Just started a thread on juicing

SunscreenCentral · 13/06/2021 23:48

Another one here where the lard accumulated on stomach/"waist" (haha) and at the top of my hips at the back. Oh and it migrates to the boobs as well.
I really hate my silhouette.
The rest of me is reasonably slim-ish (face/legs/arms/bum) but nothing fits me properly. I bulge out over jeans. Dresses are difficult. Jackets that fit my shoulders and arms neatly won't close. I look messy and badly put together. And I'm SICK of it.

The weekend wasn't too too bad here apart from the chocolate cake tonight.

A gentle IF approach this week for me. Upping salads & veg & water.

Good luck everyone x

ThinWomansBrain · 14/06/2021 00:36

well done @RickOShay - how did Sunday go?

NotWhereIWantToBe · 14/06/2021 09:50

I decided to weigh myself yesterday morning after a 5 mile walk with the dog and before I had eaten or drunk anything - I knew it was going to be unrealistic, but wanted a bit of a boost. Yay for me as the scales reported a 4lb loss for the week! Of course, I have sensibly weighed myself again this morning at a more realistic stage of my day, and I've still lost 2lbs, so I'll take that. :) Going to keep on with the not snacking this week as that definitely seems to be making a difference as well as maintaining my protein intake.
Hope everyone else is feeling OK? xx

AnnaCharles888 · 14/06/2021 10:19

@NotWhereIWantToBe that's really great news - not just the loss, but the determination that comes across in your post. I love the way you write about your decision to continue with not snacking. Making a decision and committing to it, no matter what, is half the battle.

PioneerWoman · 14/06/2021 10:54

Well done NotWhereIWantToBe, I agree with you re keeping up the protein, otherwise we might feel weak.

Weighed and I’ve lost another half pound, so 7.5 lbs since I joined the thread. DH said I look slimmer, he is pretty fit but wants to lose 10 lbs. We are going to eat salads with salmon/tuna/chicken all week, with some roast veg to break it up.

I am used to eating like this now and I don’t feel hungry or deprived. Keep going everyone and for those starting again don’t give up. I have made several efforts since New Year to lose weight (and failed) but only found my mojo in May.

steppemum · 14/06/2021 12:26

Oh well done losers! (that really doesn't sound right Grin)

another half a pound yesterday. It is coming of in tiny slivers.

Just meal planning for the week. Trying to balance filling hungry teenage boots with my wieght loss Hmm

PioneerWoman · 14/06/2021 12:48

steppemum well done on half pound. Not gaining over the weekend is a triumph I find. I am adding garlic bread / bruschetta, pasta with pesto cold / couscous and potato salad to the table for my two teens. I stick to the chicken/fish, cucumber, feta, beetroot, salad leaves end of things. I have one fussy eater and one who eats everything (both have egg allergy’s though) but funnily enough a picnic/salad spread works for everyone.

Cornishmaiden · 14/06/2021 13:17

Hi everyone. One week of moving more thanks to my new step counter, writing everything down and drinking more water has shown a 4 pound loss which I am really pleased with.
No one has complained about the healthier meals I have produced and it has been so nice to cook something different.
Know from past attempts to lose weight that a second week weight loss can be tricky, but reading all your posts is keeping me motivated so thank you to you all.😀

PioneerWoman · 14/06/2021 13:22

Cornishmaiden that’s a great week one result, well done.

RickOShay · 14/06/2021 15:45

Well done!
I straggled through the weekend @ThinWomansBrain
But I’m not defeated yet Grin
Hope everyone is doing ok

ThinWomansBrain · 14/06/2021 20:24

@PioneerWoman - ratatouille is super easy to make and makes a change from salad. I cook for myself, so by the time I've got an aubergine, courgette and peppers, it's around four portions, buy one of my favourite things, good hot or cold.
I forgot to weigh myself this morning - I normally do it every day, so doesn't matter too much. I did think about weighing myself & deducting the weight of the pot of tea I'd drunk - but I was dressed by then, and it seemed too much faff.
Off to cook supper - trout, rhubarb and spinach.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/06/2021 20:24

well done @RickOShay Grin
