Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

Wow... it's a week since I lasted posted and so many interesting posts to catch up on.

I know the cause of my weight gain... too much beer, wine, chocolate, crisps, cake and hot cross buns... mostly due to just fitting in with DH and DS habits rather than exercising self control and buying/ eating what works for me...

Lockdown and DH no longer working away all week hasn't helped either.., I went from not drinking during the week other than a quick beer after running with the club on a Thursday to drinking more nights than is good and quantities increased as well.

After last week's success, we were camping at the weekend which led to beer, wine, meal at the pub.... I did manage to resist the biscuits and snacks but damage was done...

Back to 149.2 on Monday so this week I have switched my approach ... trying Fast 800 / BSD and whilst I am not weighing everything, I'm skipping breakfast, minimal lunch, black coffee and herbal teas, then main meal with no potatoes, rice etc... and no mid week drinking... will see about the weekend.... probably allow a sensible breakfast, and maybe some gin or red wine... but to offset that a good long walk Saturday and a run on Sunday ...

So that'll work out as 2 days off, 5 days below 800 cals

So far it's not been too hard but will need to be careful to get through the weekends

Babymamamama · 16/06/2021 13:20

@putthehamsterbackinitscage that sounds a good plan. Nice to take back the control a bit.
Felt a bit despondent this morning as my “mum” tum is still prominent. Then I thought about it properly and actually it’s taken me a decade of concerted over eating to get to this point. So why should I expect it all to correct itself in a matter of a couple of months? I’m not going to push OMAD onto anyone but the Jason Fung book is very good at explaining how weight is linked to insulin and hormones. I find it a compelling argument. And there are lots of YouTube videos on it which I watch when I feel I am waning. It’s definitely harder in the menopausal stages though.

steppemum · 16/06/2021 14:49

I think OMAD works on the same principle as 16:8 and 5:2
There is lots of evidence for fasting helping weight loss.

I have done 16:8 but my problem is that I then eat too much in the 8 hours.

RickOShay · 16/06/2021 15:47

Grin @steppemum
Yes I’m experiencing this strange phenomenon. I managed a prawn sandwich, 2 fresh cream eclairs, 4 florentines - they were tiny, for lunch yesterday. I had a couple of spoonfuls of tomato pasta for supper.
Wonder where I’m going wrong??? Grin

Tasted lovely and now I am kicking myself

I tend to over-research diets, then combine them all with fatal results.

Eat high fat (as if on low-carb diet) but with carbs.

Eat good breakfast (as told to by some), then also good dinner (as have to keep metabolism up).

Plan to fast next day then job comes in, so have breakfast, and have no ingredients in for packed lunch so have some cake in the staff room, and get home to discover delicious dinner and wine has been made.

Etc.

I stopped eating wheat a few years ago, when I realised it was responsible for my chronic stomach pain, IBS, rosacea and painful joints. I thought that would mean I lose weight, as no cakes, biscuits, etc. Sadly, the opposite has been the case - I think food now actually stays inside me, and gets turned into fat. I feel better, just fatter.

steppemum · 16/06/2021 18:41

I feel better, just fatter.

Grin sorry but that did make me laugh.
RickOShay · 16/06/2021 20:00

Yes and yes @herbaceous
Right. I know it’s a bumpy ride. I will be all over the beetroot salad tomorrow.

ThinWomansBrain · 16/06/2021 20:56

@PioneerWoman

DH lost 3 lbs yesterday. We ate the same except he had much bigger portions and two slices of rye bread and 3 real ales! It’s the menopause I guess, hormones messing everything up.
maybe he pood more? I always find the calories in/those used up in exercise equation a bit deficient - when I eat lots of rubbish and junk food, I excrete a lot more waste.

@MareofBeasttown - if you don;t like cauliflower rice, why not just have cauliflower?
The first time I did low carb a few years ago, I faffed around for ever with cauliflower rice, courgetti... now I just have the veg, much nicer texture. My favourite is prawn curry with cauliflower.
It's a bit like all the 'vegetarian chicken' etc - If I want to cut out meat, I don't want to fill my diet with iffy meat substitutes.

thanks @AnnaCharles888 - see you tomorrow.

Chelsea567 · 16/06/2021 22:39

I have been doing Noom for a week, tomorrow morning is the Weekly weigh in for me
I quite like it and think it will suit me - I love new apps with things to log and do! I've definitely eaten much less than normal and I like some if the tips and psychological stuff on there. So we'll see. I don't think I could do 5:2 or 16:8 or similar because I think I'd go crazy on the eat normally days. Because my normal is very bad GrinAnyone else trying it?

SunscreenCentral · 16/06/2021 23:59

Hi everyone
I really am trying hard. No alcohol at all. Fewer than 1200kcal most days. 5 hot yoga sessions in past week.
10 years ago this would have been enough to drop quite a few lbs (I'm almost 3 weeks in). It's happening but my god is it sloooow.
Watching the carbs & sugary
Need to up the veg protein & importantly the water.
That's my main focus for next week

ThinWomansBrain · 17/06/2021 06:02

wow - hot yoga in this weather ! very dedicated sunscreen,
I managed 9.5k steps yesterday, but the afternoon was so hot until around 6pm
My weight dropped in the first 2-3 days, and was then maddeningly up/stable for about ten days (didn't help that that made me so fed up I bought large cake last weekend)- finally started shifting in the last couple of days; that's with 800-1000 calories and 70-80g of carbs daily (apart from the cake fail last weekend).
3.5kg since 1 June 🎈🎉

herbaceous · 17/06/2021 09:17

How much does drinking loads of water help? I know I should drink more, but it's pretty tedious. If it's an 'easy win', however, I shall make an effort!

AnnaCharles888 · 17/06/2021 14:00

@herbaceous regarding water: it helps a lot. Often dehydration feels like hunger - bringing on urges to eat - when it isn't. So drink a big glass of water and wait before eating. If you still feel hungry after 15 mins or so, you're probably hungry. :-)

Cowbells · 17/06/2021 15:34

You can always flavour it with sugar free cordial or similar. I currently get through 500ml of sugar-free cranberry juice mixed with water every day. I know some people think sweeteners are the devil's work (they probably are) but I have lost weight so much more easily when I drink 2l water a day and sugar free cranberry or Vimto help it down. So does influsing it. Just slicing up some oranges, lemons, limes or strawberries and mint and leaving them in the water makes it delicious.
SunscreenCentral · 17/06/2021 16:08

Nice suggestions there @Cowbells - thank you!

Chelsea567 · 17/06/2021 16:40

2.7kg off in first week. Pretty happy with that but I know first week is the easiest to see a great result. Made me realise how much I was eating. Not hungry but I can start to feel the cakes biscuits ice creams calling me. This is where I think oh sod it let's have something nice I've been really good, and that's usually the end of my diet. Sitting here now trying really hard not to go get a magnum out of the freezer.

RickOShay · 17/06/2021 19:12

Stay strong @Chelsea567
Tell yourself you can on Sunday. Get a few more days under your belt.

ThinWomansBrain · 17/06/2021 19:16

well done Chelsea - leave the magnum where it is

I'm usually really good at drinking lots, but today I was really busy at work - got to about 5pm and I realised I'd drunk one glass of water all day, and half a cup of tea - downed some tea and three glasses of water before I left, and now trying to make up.

Readytostartagain · 17/06/2021 20:31

Just wanted to say thank you to @AnnaCharles888 for a really helpful talk. Sorry my internet was a bit hit and miss so I couldn’t contribute but found it very useful

NotWhereIWantToBe · 17/06/2021 21:07

Yes, I too would like to thank @AnnaCharles888 for your time and advice this evening - I shall definitely be using many of the points. (Sorry I was late joining.)

ThinWomansBrain · 17/06/2021 21:47

Yes, thank you Anna, it was really useful.
I have a list of things to do when I'm convinced I need to eat something I probably shouldn't, but thinking about why I think I want/need to eat wasn't one of them Grin
Thanks again Flowers

RickOShay · 17/06/2021 21:49

When someone has a moment please could they summarise key points from Anna’s zoom?
Thank you
