Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

@ThinWomansBrain @Readytostartagain I was thinking of maybe one evening next week or at lunchtime if that works better? Thursday is looking good for me right now - how does that sound? Or are weekends better?

AnnaCharles888 · 11/06/2021 10:24

@steppemum '2. psychological, we have taught ourselves to eat every twenty minutes hour and so our brain triggers us to ask. '

Yes, eating becomes habit but this is helped along by 'society' and all the millions the food companies make by convincing us that grazing throughout the day is needed and normal and that we'll feel so much better eating one of their £4.50 'natural' health bars.

So it becomes (to coin a phrase) the new normal to snack when it's totally unnecessary.

steppemum · 11/06/2021 10:27

yes, and I notice that we start young. Out with the kids for an hour? Take a drink and snack!

AnnaCharles888 · 11/06/2021 10:28

@Babymamamama such a good post about the habits of thin people, particularly your second point about their naturally adjusting eating habits - without thinking about it. Because it's not a big thing to them. Food isn't that much of a deal. It's just food.

And when you can get to that place - which is accessible to everyone - of seeing food as 'just food' (not good food or bad food or fattening food or healthy food or oh-my-God-I-can't-stop-eating-this food), that's when you will feel peace with your body and your eating.

steppemum · 11/06/2021 10:30

actually it was me not babymamma, but I'll take the compliment! Grin

AnnaCharles888 · 11/06/2021 10:32

hehe and oops from me!

steppemum · 11/06/2021 10:33

I think it is true for dh that food is just food. But it is more than that, the natural adjustment is because they are, without even realising it, tuned into their body, so - still full? Eat less.

dh doesn't seem to relish or love some foods in the way I do. I get real deep down pleasure with some foods. He jsut eats them. I am not sure I want to lose that pleasure!

Babymamamama · 11/06/2021 12:06

Love getting credit for steppemum’s post. Smile
Hope everyone having a good day. Today I’m enjoying sipping black earl grey tea might try to get some steps in in my lunch break from work. Dinner seems a long way off so will need to distract myself with work and Mumsnet.

Readytostartagain · 11/06/2021 14:26

@AnnaCharles888 Thursday evening would work for me

ThinWomansBrain · 11/06/2021 23:16

@AnnaCharles888 - Thursday evening is great for me - lunchtimes aren't so good.

@steppemum - i'm honestly not sure I know what hungry feels like!
I get urges to eat stuff - but it's not really hunger!

Went out for lunch, had a delicious salmon salad with green beans spinach and quails eggs, I was very discriminating with the artisan bread that the waiter kept popping up with - then the guys at the next table sent cocktails over to out table, Discovered that I like expresso martinis a lot - and whisky sours. Would have been rude to say noGrin At least they weren't horribly sweet and sugary ones.

ThinWomansBrain · 11/06/2021 23:29

habits of thin people
My user name is based on a book I started reusing a few weeks ago (got diverted on to "Why We Eat") - On the suggestion of modelling yourself on "naturally" thin women, I've noticed a couple:
Went for afternoon tea on my birthday - thin woman ate, but then announced she wasn't having anything from the top tier of the cake stand. At least I managed NOT to eat her share.
At the restaurant today, a woman arrived just to have desert and coffee - after the waiter reeled off a list of sumptuous deserts, she appeared to have a small dish of yoghurt with tiny biscuits. After it arrived, she let it sit on the table for at least ten-fifteen minutes before she even had a tiny spoonful...

Chelsea567 · 12/06/2021 09:25

@ThinWomansBrain . This is interesting and reminds me of my sister. She only eats when she's really hungry, never thinks about food. When we eat together she spends more time chatting, takes ages to clear her plate. Me and my hubby finish in a tenth of the time and are chomping at the bit for pudding and she hasn't even picked up her fork! Me and hubby plan what we're going to eat and when, we've even had conversations like "we'd better eat lunch now, even though we're not hungry, so we'll be ready for dinner later" How mad is that? Sister sometimes says "ooh it's 3pm and I haven't had breakfast yet" she just genuinely hasn't remembered! Needless to say she's a UK10, me size 18.

nothernexposure · 12/06/2021 14:48

Managed 6 days so far, and the scales say I'm now 11.1, so motivated to keep going. Recognise so.much of what is being said about eating habits and recognising hungry/full signals. How's everyone else doing?

Cowbells · 12/06/2021 15:16

Please can I join in? 5'4, 57 and have a stone to lose. Lost the first stone through exercise but the second one needs diet too and I'm not good at that. Would love to be 9st 7lbs again. But even 10st would do. First, I just want to get back into healthy BMI.

PioneerWoman · 12/06/2021 16:10

Welcome Cowbells. Lots of different methods on this thread if you feel like reading back.

I am doing ok. I’ve lost 7 lbs since joining the thread. Pleased with that. It has not been easy. I have probably had bread twice, one slice of pizza but otherwise very low carb. No breakfast, today lunch was a coffee and 2 scrambled eggs, dinner is roast veg and salmon. I think my appetite has adjusted as I don’t feel hungry so far. My only vice is wine, I am having Becks blue beer some nights and wine some nights. There are no crisps in the house to tempt me.

On to the next 7 lbs. I will weigh in on Monday and try not to regain hard won losses just because it’s a sunny weekend!

AnnaCharles888 · 12/06/2021 16:21

@Readytostartagain and @ThinWomansBrain and anyone else who's interested - shall we say 7:30 on Thursday then? I'll post a zoom link on this thread ahead of time. Enjoy the sunny weekend!

Readytostartagain · 12/06/2021 18:12

Sounds great thanks @AnnaCharles888 Smile

ThinWomansBrain · 12/06/2021 18:26

that's great, thanks @AnnaCharles888

steppemum · 12/06/2021 19:29

so weighed myself this morning, been doing it since Monday am.
I have lost about 1lb. Sad
Not impressed.

I have been so good, no snacks, no nibbles just actual food at actual meals.

Hey ho. keep going. Every lb is a lb less. At this rate I will be at my first goal by September Angry

herbaceous · 12/06/2021 19:56

I've put on two pounds since starting this thread. Go me.

Babymamamama · 12/06/2021 21:01

@herbaceous every day is a new day right?

RickOShay · 12/06/2021 21:29

@herbaceous
I’ve failed this weekend too. Start again on Monday? Pinkie promise Grin

RickOShay · 12/06/2021 21:30

@steppemum that’s brilliant though!
A pound a week is just right
Well done you

ThinWomansBrain · 12/06/2021 23:07

@Chelsea567 - aside from being thin, all the slim women that I've noted appear to smoke incessantly - so maybe not quite so healthy!

ThinWomansBrain · 12/06/2021 23:09

[quote RickOShay]@herbaceous

and tomorrow? Slippery slope!

start tomorrow
(my I've blown it so I'll start on Monday thoughts never specify which Monday)
