Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

@steppemum That's brilliant you had a boost with the dress! When I lost weight last time 🙄 one of the loveliest NSV's was all the clothes I could fit and not feel rubbish in. Also being able to try them on in shops comfortably - wouldn't dream of doing that right now.
@TrueGrit54 Exante are shakes and meal replacements (bars, soups, some meals) I found the meals and bars gacking tbh but the shakes are really nice and don't have that weird metal taste that slim fast and others do. They do always have offers on and I did lose some fast pounds which is what I feel I need as I'm on a cycle of yo-yo img which has gone on for years now. Am going to start again next week on them and will report back here.
Keep going all!

steppemum · 06/08/2021 11:35

My only current problem is that all my shorts and cut off length trousers are too big. Don't want to buy new, don;t work with a belt, and so I'm trying to take them in to lats the summer.

Hopefully by next summer I'll be 2 sizes thinner.

TrueGrit54 · 07/08/2021 11:13

Clothes are awkward, thank heavens I don’t work anymore so it’s not so important. I have worn the same stretchy baggy crap for the last 18 months. steppemum it must be fab to have clothes too big now, charity shops around me are bursting with clothes, maybe try that?

Thread is quiet, people on hols I guess.

cissyandbessy · 08/08/2021 10:49

So I've shopped for one healthy meal per day and exante shakes from next week. Feeling kind of irked with myself for not using the time during the last 16 months to do this. Grrrr. Now I've got invitations and things where it will be harder to diet now. Anyway, no point crying over spilt milk and I just have to get in with it now.

steppemum · 08/08/2021 11:18

cissy - no point in looking back, just start from now. I always think that if you can diet for most of the week, then you can afford the occasional inviation out!

TrueGrit54 · 08/08/2021 12:10

I think we are all in the same place with lots of regrets. I gained one pound back despite just eating chicken breast (no skin) and tonnes of veg (no potatoes) for two days. Frustrating. Had a bad day yesterday, just lots of little things went wrong. So I drank too much wine and ate several dark rye ryvita with butter. Could have been worse. Going to take a break from weighing for a day or two.

TrueGrit54 · 09/08/2021 08:18

3 weeks in and I’ve lost 3 lbs. I am living on veg, eggs and lean protein. The fat just doesn’t want to go. Pretty fed up. I honestly think my metabolism is stuck. Can’t honestly eat any better. Looks like I am going to have to try sweating on our cross trainer. My half hour walks are making no difference. Thing is I am sleeping very badly and joints are stiff, not sure I can do it.

Hope everyone else is doing better. Inspiration?

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 09/08/2021 10:16

@TrueGrit54 keep going - it will shift eventually... 3lb is still an average of 1lb per week.

Forgot to weigh in Friday, but today iI'm 9 st 8.4 after a weekend feeling very deprived as DH and adult DC have been scoffing a lovely cheesecake from the farm shop along with loads of other carbs.

However, I'm now less than 15lb to target and it's achievable by early December according to my app, based on losing around 1lb per week - I'd like to lose more quickly but being realistic as I get nearer target that isn't going to happen

TrueGrit54 · 09/08/2021 10:57

putthehamsterbackinitscage thanks, I will keep going, well done on your loss. My family had crumpets and sausages this morning, I just have coffee. Needless to say they are all whippet slim. I have been listening to a very funny podcast called Older and Wider (also book of same name) Jennie Eclair and Judith Holder basically chatting about everyday stuff, bit sweary but it cheers me up.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 11/08/2021 11:44

It's quiet on here this week...

Though I only post weekly usually, I weigh most days to keep on track - plus I think patterns emerge across the weeks and it helps to understand how weight fluctuates so you see that a small change upwards may not be an actual gain ...

Today is 9.9.2, yesterday was 9.9.6 and before that 9.8.4

Hoping by this Friday it goes below 9.8

Mostly been keeping to lowish carb, under 1200 cals and filling my Apple Watch rings - although I did have a very small portion of honeycomb ice cream from a local dairy last night -DD is a bad influence at times Grin

TrueGrit54 · 11/08/2021 13:31

Very quiet! I am still trying, low carbing but not no carbs. Eating good home cooked healthy meals but unfortunately still very little weight loss. It is excruciatingly slow, my body doesn’t want to lose the fat.

SW 10 st 13
CW 10 st 9
GW 9 st

How is everyone else doing?

steppemum · 11/08/2021 14:36

had the veyr opposite of a NSV today.

Bought trousers from charity shop yesterday, couldn't try them on, and I bought some on ebay, and tried both on today. Both size 18, both WAY too small. I know it isn't the number on the label, but it was depressing.

At least I have 2 pairs to aim for Hmm

No weight loss as I have been ill for a week and not exercising.

Babymamamama · 12/08/2021 08:30

I’ve been quiet on the thread. But I’ve been staying true to our shared thread cause. Mostly. I’m still doing the OMAd ie one meal a day. Went on a mini break with DD where I fell off the plan and gained four pounds in as many days. But then managed to shed those again plus a bit more. The weight loss for me is generally slow and steady but usually in the right direction.
I’ve also noticed other side effects of this OMAd such as my itchy menopausal skin is resolving itself and the aches and pains of my menopausal body are lessening. I definitely think there’s something in this fasting which is really good for me. I even learned a bit about
Autophagy via youtube ( a scientist apparently won the Nobel prize for his research into this the other year). Basically about how weight loss by fasting can reverse aging of cells and clear out old cells. Great for cancer prevention etc. Learning this has helped me stay motivated.
Ok enough waffling. Hope you’re all well. Keep doing what you’re doing. The long game remember?

TrueGrit54 · 12/08/2021 10:38

steppemum thats annoying, women’s dress sizes are completely unreliable. My DS and DH rarely have this problem, waist size on band of trousers is always accurate. I haven’t dared try on any clothes, but then I haven’t lost much weight. I plan to buy a good pair of jeans (Levi’s maybe) when I reach goal and then use these to monitor my weight.

Babymamamama I agree re long game, would have preferred a short game to be honest but am having to accept a steady slow plod.

I looked at my stats for this year, my heaviest was 11st 7 lbs in February so 10 st 9 lbs in August is going in the right direction, so slowly.

steppemum · 12/08/2021 13:34

yes to the long game.

I keep looking at toatl lost, not how much this week or last.

It is all about heading in the right direction

(just gets a bit boring though doesn't it Grin)

Babymamamama · 12/08/2021 18:41

If I get to my target weight by Christmas I will be happy, but that’s not even a given at this point….Hmm

ingeborg3 · 13/08/2021 06:59

May I join? Fighting with my weight and counting calories for more than two years. I cannot even blame the pandemic. I am trying to sleep 7 hours per night, my doctor thinks that it might help with weight loss. I would be happy if the weight would stop going up!

Babymamamama · 13/08/2021 08:43

@ingeborg3 welcome to you it’s hard isn’t it when it seems a battle. I can’t blame the pandemic either. I blame myself Smile…. Everyone here does different things. I’m doing the fasts, some may do low carbing, exercising or whatever……

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 16/08/2021 07:53

Hi @ingeborg3 - we're all just muddling along doing our own thing... I'm now trying to stick to low carb and around 1200 cals per day - tried a mix of approaches to start with that had worked for me in the past but didn't give anywhere near as good results as in my 20s or even my 40s.

Weekend away... tried to stick to low carb until we had dinner out on Saturday and there were very limited options... especially for dessert 😳

So, Friday was 9.8.4 - bit disappointing but not a disaster, this morning 9.7.0 - how does that work?

Expecting it to go back up a bit over the week as there does seem to be a pattern of largish drop then up and down by small amounts before the next drop.

SW 10.10.4
CW 9.7.0
GW 8.7.0 ish

ingeborg3 · 16/08/2021 09:31

Thank you all.
I am also trying (unsuccessfully so far) to keep the calories around 1200 (counting with Noom). I start eating around noon or after. My dr. says that my lack of sleep does not help the weight loss. Will try again tomorrow Smile

SW 10.07 (now)
GW somewhere around 8.5

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 16/08/2021 10:11

I can understand the theory about sleep as when I'm tired it's easy to reach for sugar based snacks and caffeine to try to keep going and 7 hours is a good target so long as you can get to sleep / stay asleep ..

But sleep is not always easy - I find I have nights when everything is great and I fall asleep easily, then others for no apparent reason I just cannot sleep at all or my sleep is very disturbed- the only thing I can put it down to is age/hormones - I guess it must be perimenopause but no other specific symptoms that help with a pattern as yet...

steppemum · 16/08/2021 14:55

on holiday, so no dieting, and plenty of nice food.
But also lots of dog wakling up hills so I hope it will balance out

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 16/08/2021 20:34

Enjoy your holiday @steppemum!

herbaceous · 17/08/2021 17:10

I'm very quiet as have in fact put on weight as hopeless idiot.

Babymamamama · 17/08/2021 18:17

Oh no herbaceous that’s happened to me few weeks ago - four day mini break and I put on four pounds! Do you know what happened? I’m sure you can get back on track SmileAlso some weight gain can just be water maybe??
