Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

Thanks @Babymamamama I’m hoping this is point of no return for me this time. The hot weather always makes me realise how much the excess weight affects me negatively.

Babymamamama · 29/07/2021 11:45

Another day another step on the menopausal weight loss journey. I’ve hit 12.0.8 stone on the scale. Which is major for me. I’m desperate to get onto the 11s……what to do? I might try to do some marching on the spot during work phone calls…

TrueGrit54 · 29/07/2021 12:49

Babymamamama well done! So exciting to break into another stone category.

Mixed story here. On one hand I am doing badly with food but I have decided to give up alcohol until I reach goal. I used to drink just at weekends as I was very careful not to have alcohol in my system when getting up early to drive to work. Now I am retired and not driving in the mornings I have been merrily drinking more wine than I care to confess to most nights. Already I feel calmer and less anxious without alcohol but it is taking me hours to get to sleep. I have ordered some AF beer. Really pleased I am doing this, next step is to get on track with what I am eating.

How is everyone else doing?

wakeupnshakeup · 29/07/2021 14:44

Well done @Babymamamama! Keep pushing forward with the step count. I've walked so much this week! Dogs wondering what's going on.. also having a wine break here, far too much indulgence has been going on it's no wonder nothing fits.

I've sign d up to a app which points me in the right direction to calories v calories out method. How I'm supposed to hit 15k steps daily is another matter..! I'm sure I'm eating more now than I have done in a while.. we shall see. Also see an interview with a meno Dr/specialist stating yoga and weights was the way forward to losing weigh in our 'later' years. Found it quite interesting actually and makes a bit of sense.

Readytostartagain · 29/07/2021 20:00

Well done @Babymamamama sounds like you’ve got this sussed

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 30/07/2021 12:59

Friday weigh in... as it's usually the lowest of the week before the weekend indulgences...

I've hit 9st 12.0 today... lowest weigh in since last October.Smile I still have a long way to go to target and I know it'll get harder as weight and TdEE reduce.

Hoping the weather is going to improve and I'll get out for a run and work in the garden over the weekend to keep active.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 30/07/2021 13:04

@Babymamamama and @wakeupnsmellthecoffee Wine has been a large part of my weight gain during lockdowns and I know it's an issue, particularly white, as it goes down so easily and DH and I open a 2nd bottle too often...

I've been trying to avoid it other than an odd glass of red - switched to g&t instead of beer too as it's less carbs/calories and given the price at the pub I don't drink as many.

Babymamamama · 30/07/2021 15:17

Has anyone tried skinny wine? I’m intrigued but haven’t seen it when I’ve been shopping.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 30/07/2021 15:46

I haven't tried it but they also do skinny lager and though it's not particularly full of flavour it is passable and only 2/3 cals of most lagers, so good for a hot day when you want one...

If the wine is comparable then likely to be fairly bland / light in flavour?

TrueGrit54 · 30/07/2021 16:56

Haven’t tried it either. I am drinking Becks Blue, cheap, low cal and AF. I don’t usually drink beer so not the best judge but I drinking it from a pretty glass and trying to trick my brain. I also have Schloer v low cal as a white wine substitute and it’s not great, also tried two different expensive Sipsmith AF gins, waste of money for me.

Mum4Fergus · 01/08/2021 09:40

Week one weigh in for me...started 19st 9lbs now 18st 13lbs. 10lbs off. Happy with that!

TrueGrit54 · 01/08/2021 14:07

Mum4Fergus well done you, that’s a magnificent week one result.

steppemum · 01/08/2021 15:46

Hi all,
so I've been away working for a week. Eating loads as I was busy, busy.

I came bakc and i have lost abother pound. So now down to 101.4 kgs, so nearly at my 100.
Total of 9 kgs now.
I love the story of the cat litter. I have another 25kgs to lose so that is me! I carried a bag with 3 x 3kgs of salt in it last week, and it was REALLY heavy, that is how much I have lost so far. That is scary.

Now that I have accepted that it is long term little steps I am OK. Determined to keep going.
I have realised though that my boobs are getting smaller. That was the one bit I didn't mind!

Babymamamama · 02/08/2021 15:11

Steppemum it’s definitely long term little steps. I agree. I’m on a little mini break. Still trying to be good as far as I can but having more than one meal a day. Will be interested to see what the scales say when I’m back. Had to put a belt onto a couple of my size 14 usual trousers so I guess that’s a good ish sign. But the scales will tell.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 03/08/2021 10:02

Wow @Mum4Fergus that's awesome!

And @Babymamamama ... needing a belt means inches are going so that's fab!

@steppemum - you'll do it very very soon .... and then below 100 too!

Having a good week... DH has gone away leaving me behind with adult DCs do less temptation to have a drink and I'm sticking rigidly to eating plans so far.... hoping for a really good week come Friday morning...

cissyandbessy · 03/08/2021 10:08

Have joined some of these threads before and lost the same stone in vet and over again. I'm 49 and a few months before I am 50 which was my goal to feel fit and healthy by. Am sooo aware of the time ticking down and am missing out on loads of good stuff carrying this extra 5 stones about. So I'm in!!

steppemum · 03/08/2021 10:58

welcome sissy.
One pound at a time, we're here for the long haul {grin]

TrueGrit54 · 03/08/2021 11:10

cissyandbecky welcome to the gang. I am 55 next year and determined to have lost all blubber and be fit by then. I do feel at a crossroads - left is stretchy waist bands and baggy tops eventually followed by a mobility scooter, right is a pair of jeans and t shirt tucked in followed by a wetsuit and body board.

One week in and I’ve lost 2 lbs, not setting the world on fire but absolutely delighted with that.

Hope everyone is ok, keep going.

steppemum · 03/08/2021 13:31

Oh I love the image of the mobility scooter v. wetsuit!

Going away ina couple of weeks. I've promised dd that we will go horse riding several days. The stables I wanted to book with has an upper limit of 100kgs for riders.
That really stopped me in my tracks and is one reason I need to get below 100kgs asap.

And we have 2 canoes, which dh and kids use. I can't fit in them Blush

cissyandbessy · 04/08/2021 08:56

@TrueGrit54 Congrats on making a start with your 2lbs loss! And yes the crossroads is real - am going to aim for wetsuit path (or at least a waist that isn't elasticated) I had some small success with Exante a while back so will start that again. I need to not think about food as my portion control is the main issue.

steppemum · 04/08/2021 21:48

I'm on cloud 9.
Went shopping with dd, and it was chucking it down so we ducked into Yours. I saw a niceish dress but only had it in 16 (which is about a 18-20 in any other shop Hmm)
I tried it on, and it looks great! Nicest I've looked in a dress for AGES!
dd even said it was really nice.
I bought it for my Mum's 80th birthday at end of August.

It is amazing how just putting that dress on and not looking 'fat' immediately has boosted my self confidence.
before anyone feels despondant by that, I'll just remind you that I have 25kgs (more than 3 stone) still to lose....

TrueGrit54 · 05/08/2021 11:35

steppemum how lovely, a NSV! It will probably be pleasantly loose for your mum’s birthday party. I have had a couple of strict days, lots of salad, veg and chicken. Same plan for today’s food. My tummy blubber feels a smidge smaller. I think I eat better when the weather is cooler.

cissyandbessy I looked on the exante website as I didn’t know what it was. They have some special offers at the moment. Have you decided to try it for a couple of weeks? I get that it takes the thinking out of food.

How is everyone else doing?

steppemum · 05/08/2021 12:19

Thanks TrueGrit - but whats a NSV?
I have a weeks holiday between now and the birthday, so hoping I can keep the same weight!

TrueGrit54 · 05/08/2021 12:46

steppemum non scales victory, sorry about that, I’ve been trying to lose weight since January and picked up some dieting slang loitering on various threads. I love a NSV!

steppemum · 05/08/2021 13:21

Oh love that - yes a definite NSV!
