Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

5NOV · 23/05/2021 08:57

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

Sunscreen it’s shocking how easily that can happen isn’t it. I was watching Chanelle someone or other on Loose Women today (I know… but I was bored on my WFH non-lunch-lunch break) and she was extolling the virtues of having a gastric sleeve and therapy. I almost felt jealous ….I think she said she’d gone from 16 stone to like 8. Must be easier than what we are all going through.

SunscreenCentral · 07/07/2021 23:25

It does seem a bit ridiculously unfair @Babymamamama doesn't it? Hopefully it's water-weight/bloat but obviously I've set myself back a week....
Not sure how I feel about gastric sleeves. If I was ever going down the surgery route I'd put smaller boobs & love-handles removal on my shopping list. Too old for all that business now though

steppemum · 08/07/2021 09:19

103!!!!!
Cannot tell you how exciting it is to see the 3 on the scales. stuck at 104 for weeks, and finally it is 103kgs.
Mind you it is 103.7, so that .7 still needs to go, but it is the first time I've seen a 3 for years.

It is a slow drip at our age I think. In the past I used to drop half a stone in a week, now 2 weeks and 2 lbs if I am lucky.

pappajonessecretchild · 08/07/2021 12:12

hi everyone, i had been reading the thread since it started, but as a lurker. Thankyou 5NOV for starting it. I know i am late to join, but it takes me a while to pick up the courage! After going away for the late bank hol weekend, and seeing my 5ft 1inch looking as wide as height in the hotel mirrors, decided i needed to seriously start sorting myself out. DH is joining in which helps, my ankles, knees and hips ached with my huge size, and walking was getting harder. So far i have gone from 13st 10 to 12st 9, and got my walking up from 8k steps to around 15k a day, with just my ankles aching now. finding the time can be hard but whilst i am in the zone will find a way. i ideally would like to get out the obese range, so another 1 and half stone to get to that point, and anything else is a bonus. I am enjoying reading all your posts, agree its so much harder at this age, but needs to be done. I find its hard as food is clearly an addiction with me, and if it was alcohol/drugs/ciggies then although hard, you can go cold turkey and never have them again. bit harder with food! keep going everyone, even if slow, its the right direction.

Babymamamama · 08/07/2021 14:18

Ah steppemum well done. That must be a good feeling. I’ve finally dropped a pound today having been stalled for ages so I’m taking that as a win.
pappajonessecretchild You are in similar weight bracket to me. Sounds like you are doing all the right things…. Are you doing a particular eating programme or is it mainly the walking that is doing the trick? You are so right food is hard addiction to tackle as you have to eat ….just not too much. I did find giving up smoking much easier than this although that was many moons ago. I sometimes think if I could go back on the cigs again I would be slim. But I know that’s not the answer. Grin

SunscreenCentral · 08/07/2021 14:49

Well done @steppemum !! Excellent Congratulations on your progress @pappajonessecretchild keep going!!!

I'm down .25 this morning (I weigh every morning) I'll take it Blush

Babymamamama · 09/07/2021 09:17

Oh my goodness I’m elated this morning the weight seems to be shifting again now. It’s cheered me up no end. Yesterday I felt I hadn’t done enough so decided to walk all the way to Morrison’s early evening just to buy a couple of nets of their wonky avocados - trying to have healthy fats every day on my one meal. I would normally have driven or not bothered but I enjoyed the walk bumped into people I know and have loads of Avos now so it’s a win win. Just need to steel myself against cheating over the weekend. Grin

pappajonessecretchild · 09/07/2021 10:55

well done, Babymamma! its so easy to take the car, but getting moving really helps me with the losses. I bet you felt positive for walking. Time is the biggest barrier trying to fit it in!

Babymamamama · 09/07/2021 21:58

Thankyou pappa I did some more walking today I’m getting quite into it. Walking between work appointments rather than driving or bussing it. The lovely weather does help.

herbaceous · 10/07/2021 09:56

Well done on all the pounds being shed!

After the last couple of days I'd aren't get in the scales. It was son's birthday on Thursday so we went out for pizza. Then to a theme park yesterday involving donuts and fish and chips! And then booze later to calm down from shepherding nine 12yos for a day.

Babymamamama · 10/07/2021 11:13

Herbaceous you definitely deserved the booze after your theme park duties. What a lucky DC. It’s just so important isn’t it to stay in the long game with this. Yes there will be days when it’s not relevant to be “dieting”. I’m taking DD out for lunch with her friend tomorrow. So I will eat and enjoy that. OMAD will be on other days.

steppemum · 14/07/2021 11:59

well, I'm feeling pretty positive.
I've been doing OK with eating etc.
My weight, as always wobbles round a bit, but it is back to the 103 today, so I feel that that is the new low and not going anywhere.
Still would have loved to get below 100 by end of July, but as long as it is moving down, I'm happy.

sandwiches77 · 14/07/2021 16:55

Started exante, no weight lost Sad menopausal.

Am I destined for a lifetime of fatness?

SunscreenCentral · 14/07/2021 22:10

Stick with it @steppemum you are going in the right direction.
I'm sorry @sandwiches77 I don't know anything about exante but hopefully someone will be along that does. Don't lose heart, the start of this stuff is hard but you'll find a way Flowers
Doing ok here, overall. I'm 5lbs off target. I've added in more exercise classes for next week and even if I don't lose, I'm feeling a bit more toned.

How's everyone else getting on?

Babymamamama · 15/07/2021 08:12

Nice to hear everyone’s ok. Sometimes the weight comes off but sometimes you can get a bit stuck but keep the faith and it will start again. At least that’s what I’ve found. I’m still doing the OMAD. I’ve completely adapted to it and really enjoying planning the one meal to be as delicious and nutritious as possible. I’ve been having the odd ice cream after dinner too as I’ve been embracing the idea of “delay don’t deny”. The other day i had been craving peanut butter on jam on toast so I just had that as a “side” to my my main meal and I really enjoyed it. I’m averaging a pound off every four ish days now so it’s really working for me. I met someone I hadn’t seen during lockdown the other day and she couldn’t believe the weight I’d lost, which was nice to hear…..and wanted to do the same. She’s younger than me though so probably doesn’t have the added menopause challenge.
I’m interested to hear about exante too.

steppemum · 15/07/2021 12:05

no more off on th escales, but this morning I was really conscious that my stomach was less.

Definitely improving!

SunscreenCentral · 16/07/2021 12:57

Another little loss for me, clocked 144.25 this morning yay!!

I still have 2 weeks til hols so we'll see if I hit target

Babymamamama · 16/07/2021 14:56

Sounds like everyone going in generally the right direction….now the temptations of the weekend are in the horizon….but I chatted to someone the other day who was singing the virtues of “skinny” wine as a weight loss aid. I’m not a massive drinker but sounds like something to check out as I’d never heard of it….

steppemum · 17/07/2021 08:58

102.5 this morning!
That is another kilo gone. (2 whole lbs!!!) Total loss of 8 kg s which is 17.6 lbs

I am so pleased. I do think that this is the long slow game.
I had a period last week (ffs I am 54 why on earth does my body think I still need periods??) and my weight shot up again for a few days. Just s reminder I guess that it isn't always food. As soon as that passed I am losing again.

Initially I was frustrated at the slowness, but now I've accepted it, and realised it is also the only way to change eating habits.

I need to look professional but not too smart this morning, put on a T-shirt I used to wear for that, and haven't worn for over a year as it made me look so fat. It looks great this morning, reminds me of why I bought it!

My initial goal was under 100 by July 25th, when I am awya leading a conference.
I might even make it.

Babymamamama · 17/07/2021 12:03

Steppemum that’s fab. What a good feeling. It’s nice isn’t it being able to reclaim clothes and enjoy them again. I feel my new ways of eating will need to be permanent. Along with the HRT I’m feeling so much better and less sluggish.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 19/07/2021 10:00

Back after 2 weeks of holiday... 1.2 lbs gain - not too bad considering all the ice cream, drinks and other off plan food. The walking has at least offset / limited the damage 😃

This week won't be easy - Tomorrow is a day off as it's my birthday, and I'm going out for dinner Thursday as everyone is home ...

My tracking app says I can hit target by early November so a lot still to go...

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 19/07/2021 10:02

Well done Steppemum - that's fab.. and you're very hear that target - keep going!

Gingernaut · 19/07/2021 11:11

I can barely eat or move in this heat.

I lost a kilo over the last week.

This is the first time my weight has gone down in over a year.

Small though it is, I'm thrilled.

Babymamamama · 19/07/2021 13:27

Gingernaut a kilo is loads…what’s your secret?
putthehamsterbackinitscage Welcome back I’m sure I would have put on five plus kilos with holiday eating so that’s amazing you put on so little. You can shift that in no time.
I’m finding this heat takes away the appetite and also I’m avoiding putting on the oven. Just tooo hot where we are.

Gingernaut · 19/07/2021 13:33

Tons of cool, sugar free drinks, very little appetite due to the heat and eating salads with little dressing.
