Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

I’m 50 in 35 weeks , started a diet yesterday with the aim of losing 50 before 50 though 70 would be ideal !

ThinWomansBrain · 02/07/2021 21:44

Hello @mrsbyers pounds or kilosGrin - welcome, good luck!

I'm still being good with food most of the time - the odd snack is creeping in though, must get back on the straight and narrow!
Stressful day today (even discounting 19k steps yesterday and a weight gain) - caved in to a piece of toast at lunch time.

mrsbyers · 02/07/2021 23:05

50 pounds thankfully :)

ThinWomansBrain · 03/07/2021 10:52

I woke up very early this morning, decided to go back to bed - four hours sleep later - lost half a kilo. I MUST sleep moreConfused

My other passive exercise - I've been trying to renew my cinema membership for weeks, there's been a problem with the website, I called yesterday and they renewed it for free. Not the best from of exercise maybe, but two and a half miles walk there and back, and a couple of hours watching a film with no temptation to snack.
They've even opened a new cinema that isn't next to a Waitrose.

Babymamamama · 03/07/2021 11:49

I also find I lose (a tiny bit of) weight in my sleep. I’m not particularly sweaty so it’s not water loss (sorry to be gross) I guess it’s just that you are fasting when you sleep.

Babymamamama · 03/07/2021 11:50

Ooh cinema sounds amazing and a good distraction from eating.

herbaceous · 03/07/2021 12:08

Cinema = popcorn.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/07/2021 15:13

I like popcorn (and it's low carb), but not something I associate with cinema.
When I have it, I buy the propercorn multipacks (or sainsbury's version) that are about 70 calories a pack. I don't trust myself to stop after a small portion of a large bag, but a lot less likely to open a second mini-bag.

steppemum · 03/07/2021 16:24

Hi all,
I've done much better second half of the week, but didn't dare weigh myself this morning.

DD and I went for an extra dog walk last night and I've been gardening all day, so hopefully that will all help.

steppemum · 03/07/2021 16:26

My lovely friend who, like me, has always struggled with her weight, has been working really hard at it for the last couple of months and lost 2 stone.

I am so pleased for her, and she is looking great, but I feel a bit deflated as I am not getting anywhere Sad

Babymamamama · 03/07/2021 17:19

I think with any woman in their 50s this weight loss jaunt has to be the long game. Seriously long. I don’t think I will be able ever to eat as I did before. When I think back to my 20s when I was a UK size 6 to 8 and ate whatever I wanted. I would never in my wildest dreams have imagine myself as an older woman eyeing up the size 16 clothes. For me it’s a lifestyle change rather than dieting per se. I haven’t eaten yet today and it’s the weekend where I normally tumble off the wagon so I’m feeling strong for now. And the OMADing continues. Dinner later - before the football starts.

SunscreenCentral · 03/07/2021 17:50

Absolutely @Babymamamama. I'm pushing at the moment and I intend to ease back a little this time next week & add a few calories At the same time, I'm not ever going to let myself get back to where I was in January (162lbs) and for someone who carries every single ounce up front, it's not a good look 🚢
144.5 this morning

Babymamamama · 03/07/2021 18:20

Well done sunscreen you are ahead of me weight loss wise but I’m half way ish to my target so I have to keep going. I take every little bit of progress I can. Can’t wait to buy some smaller clothes but I’m going to wait a bit longer as an incentive.

SunscreenCentral · 03/07/2021 19:12

I have a bit to go yet @Babymamamama - believe me.... Blush

herbaceous · 03/07/2021 21:21

Don't know about anyone else, but I could do with a reminder of who is doing what 'plan' to lose weight, and what their starting weight and goal is. I'm totally lost!

I'll start. 12st 4, 5' 8". Strategy - three small meals a day, calorie counting, exercise every day. Result - bugger all.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/07/2021 22:30

I started Second Nature on 1 June - basically low carb, aimed at changing lifestyle and habits rather than a quick fix.
Started at 90kg, have lost 5kg - ideally would like to be 60kg, but will review as I get closer to target - it's a long, long time since I was anywhere near that weight.
I don't do specific exercise, but walk a fair bit - probably 6.5k steps as a minimum, usually higher, 19k one day this week - probably average 10k daily.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/07/2021 22:33

take it as encouragement @steppemum - if your friend can do it, so can you!
It's getting there that counts, not how speedily you get there.

Babymamamama · 03/07/2021 23:06

I was 13 stone 5 in feb (peak chub). Started proper OMAD in April. I do gym once or twice a week. Couple of long ish walks. But as I work full time it’s all I can fit in. Currently weighing 12 stone 5. Want to lose at least another stone. Or as much as possible but 11 stone 5 is the current target. I will see how I feel when I get there. When not if Grin. I’ve done so many other types of diets prior to OMAD but nothing stuck for me as I would cheat and feel bad after. I need the strict discipline of OMAD. In real life nobody apart from couple of close friends really knows I’m doing this although people have noticed my face is a bit slimmer/less chub.

steppemum · 04/07/2021 18:13

I'm 5'8" and 104 kgs.
I started at 110, and have stop started dieting since Christmas. This time I was 106, so tiny amount lost [angry}

My main goal was to stop th emindless eating and snacking, so I just eat at mealtimes.
I am also now doing 16:8 as I am not bothered by breakfast, so that works.

When you are the main cook for a large family, and also busy with work etc, and also do not want to make a big deal about the fact you are dieting (eating disorders in the family) it is really hard to find a way to make these changes in a good way.

still, small steps and all that.

steppemum · 04/07/2021 18:14

Oh, I walk the dog every (weekday) morning, 3 miles, brisk. So that is a good thing.

steppemum · 04/07/2021 18:49

I started at 110, and have stop started dieting since Christmas

sorry, this shoudl say that I was 110 at Christmas. I have been dieting on and off, (stops and starts) since.

SunscreenCentral · 05/07/2021 13:02

Like @steppemum I've been stop/starting since Christmas when I realized I'd hit an all-time high for me of 163lbs.
I'm 51, height 5'6".
SW 150
CW 143
I'm doing 16:8 and 1200kcal. Several hot yoga classes per week and 98% alcohol free (did have some wine on Sunday).
For me being AF is key because it's then I snack, eat badly generally, abandon MFP, forget about IF and don't exercise etc.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/07/2021 20:10

so cross with myself - went to the supermarket at lunchtime, punnet of nectarines, biscuits for the office because the rest of my team are in tomorrow...
Nectarines untouched, someone's eaten half a packet of biscuits and I was the only one there today.

I like most things from Waitrose's Levantine table range (although I'm supposed to be cooking from scratch). The last couple of days I've been eating Herby Labneh Yogurt Dip - its amazing, with salad, vegetables, falafel... I'm definitely going to try making my own, and there was a recipe for making a dip with yogurt and tahini on my yogurt pot lid today, also going to try that.

Babymamamama · 07/07/2021 18:00

I’m feeling somewhat dejected this week. Haven’t lost anything despite walking 16000 steps on Sunday and continuing the OMAD. I’m wondering if I need to do the 800 calories or something. People IRL really telling me my shape is changing so I just don’t understand why it’s not translating on the scales. Anyone got better news to cheer me up?

SunscreenCentral · 07/07/2021 20:52

I fell off the wagon for 4 days & found 5lbs back on the scales ShockBlush
Brilliant.
Back on it today
