Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

So disheartened today. My stomach seems have ballooned after just a couple of days off plan.

Yes I have been eating cake and drinking wine and beers and all kinds of nice things so it's my own stupid fault.

I have exactly 5 weeks until my holiday from Monday.

Setting myself a 10lbs target.

Babymamamama · 27/06/2021 20:11

Ah sunscreen I can relate- I felt exactly the same last weekend. You will start this week with extra determination to keep going.

steppemum · 27/06/2021 20:41

Tomorrow is Monday.

Once more into the breach dear fatties, once more.....

ThinWomansBrain · 27/06/2021 20:59

Just had a real treat - I made myself roast dinner Grin
Chicken, tons of vegetables, AND roast potatoes.
I used new potatoes; weighed what I wanted and it seemed loads. I later checked and the suggested portion of potatoes on several websites is 180g - mine was only 120g. Feeling quite full now.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 28/06/2021 06:57

@ThinWomansBrain

anyone here got a brand/model of digital scales they really trust would recommend?
I have Renpho - bought on Amazon about a year ago for just over £20.

The app is fairly easy to set up and it'll recognise multiple people.

Initially I was dismayed as they seemed to read around 2 - 5 lb higher than my previous scales so I had to get my head around being heavier than I thought.

Now I just accept the others were wrong.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 28/06/2021 07:11

Weekly weigh in (I actually weigh most days as it helps me) 141.0 down from 142.8 last week.

Relaxed a bit from Friday evening to last night...

Glass and a half of red wine Friday and Saturday, couple of gins yesterday and over on calories but in line with plan.

I really want the scales below 140 on Friday when we go on holiday for 2 weeks (caravan so hopefully can avoid too many bad choices), so needs to be a good week this week.

The loseIt app suggests I can get to target mid - late October if I keep going so that's further motivation too...

Cornishmaiden · 28/06/2021 09:30

Weekly weigh in today 3.5 pounds off this week so 7.5 pounds total in 3 weeks. As predicted I lost nothing on week 2 but kept going and am so glad that I did. My steps are down though as I have hurt my ankle but hopefully will be more mobile this week.

Just got to keep on the straight and narrow. Stay positive everyone Smile

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 28/06/2021 09:32

Well done @Cornishmaiden that's a great week especially with reduced activity ...

Just got to keep going...

Babymamamama · 28/06/2021 10:03

ThinWomansBrain Your roast chicken sounds amazing I think I will do that this week before the heat wave returns. I will just have to skip the usual Yorkshire and stuffing in the side (yes Yorkshire I know!) but chicken and veg could work. I’m back on the black coffee this morning. Over the moon as I went out for lunch yesterday and had white wine but haven’t gained. Oh the joy.

ThinWomansBrain · 28/06/2021 20:52

Recommended Babymamamama 😋

My trick with roast potatoes is to microwave them for a couple of minutes, add oil to the bowl and stir - you only need a tiny amount of oil because the warmth of the potatoes helps it spread and coat the potatoes evenly.
I used about half a teaspoon yesterday, and there was oil left at the bottom of the tray when I'd cooked them.

SunscreenCentral · 28/06/2021 22:13

Great result @Cornishmaiden 👍

Babymamamama · 28/06/2021 23:19

Ooh I did the roast chicken this evening with broccoli, boiled new potatoes (for DD) and baked sweet potato and gravy. It was a bit carb heavy but as it was my one meal of the day I really super enjoyed it.

BookWorm45 · 29/06/2021 06:35

Hello all, i'm late to this party but have RTFT and this seems like the right place for me !
Time to make some changes in my life and I'm finding the comments from people very useful.
At age 51, with a BMI of 31.3, I want to put focus into my own health and happiness.

I'm currently constructing a meal plan (this is a dual version with 1 option for me and 1 option (more food/ carbs) for my DH. However I want to make this very simple so it may even be the meal plan repeats weekly until I find different items to add into it.

I also find the counting calories thing demotivating and irritating, so I am hoping I can do this using visual prompts - for example, at dinner, DH has a normal dinner plate size of food, but I could use a side plate.

I did have a look at Second Nature and Noom but I found both of them were expecting far too much fiddling around with phones during the day - not easily possible for me due to work.

What I most want to create for myself is a way of eating that is permanent, sustainable, healthy and balanced - so that it becomes as automatic as thinking "Oh I will clean my teeth this morning".

Onwards and upwards !

steppemum · 29/06/2021 08:36

welcome bookworm!

I think one thing that really helps with the permanant changes is simply eating more veg (note, not fruit and veg, veg)

So, roast dinner? Have half a plateof veg, and small helping of meat and potatoes.

I have been switching veg in lots of things.
Also, I have, for example, a delicious curry recipe, it has peanut butter and coconut milk in it.
I have an old curry recipe that I haven't used for years, which uses tinned tomatoes and low fat yoghurt instead.
Still delicious genuine curry (first recipe is from Indonesia, second is from India) but much much healthier.

Doing same with pasta - cheese sauce or tomato/veg sauce?

Babymamamama · 29/06/2021 08:59

@ BookWorm45 welcome sounds like you’ve found the right place.I’ve found it so helpful to know other people share the same goal. Weight loss is harder in the 50s for me but doesn’t mean I’m not giving it my best shot. I do more walking and gym once or twice a week but I think for me the biggest change has been stopping the mindless grazing that developed during lockdown through boredom/stress (job, relationship etc). So it feels good to be on this pathway now and checking in on this thread really keeps me going.Smile

steppemum · 29/06/2021 10:47

oh yes to the mindless grazing Grin

SunscreenCentral · 29/06/2021 15:14

I haven't been doing much exercise as my bike is gone for a service & I need it to get to my fitness class.
I'll deliberately run a long errand later on foot.
IF going ok so far.
Planning a salade Nicoise for tonight which pescatarian dc will enjoy and carnivore dc will whine about

ThinWomansBrain · 30/06/2021 19:37

hello @Cornishmaiden and @nothernexposure - opposite ends of the country! - Welcome!
It's gone a bit quiet the last few days - I wonder if everyone going along smoothly and not looking for any support, or not doing so well and steering clear?
Not quite the low carb cooking from scratch ideal, but I've just had one of those stir fry meal deals from M&S - delicious! - and I only cooked half, plus extra veg. I have on occasions cooked the whole thing before, served half, and then gone back for the rest of it.
I chose the least sugary/carby sauce - so about 60g of carb, and I've not really had anything else that was carby today.
AND - I enjoyed it!

SunscreenCentral · 30/06/2021 23:20

So far so good this week.... fingers crossed it continues

steppemum · 01/07/2021 10:01

So, yesterday was rubbish.

I helped a friend out clearing her house yesterday, so had a really busy morning, on the way homeI stopped and bought chips.
Why?? I haven't bought chips for years. They were not even that nice!
Then I sat in front of my computer all afternoon, and ate non stop - snack grazing at its absolute worst.

I felt rubbish and finally went a lay down on the sofa for 10 minutes and promptly fell asleep for 2 hours.

When I cooked dinner I was bloated and stuffed and didn't want to eat anything.

So last night and this morning some serious reflection and I have realised a few things.

  1. I need to listen better to my body. I was thirsty, caffiene deprived and tired. I dealt with that by eating. If I had taken time to listen to my body and had a cup of tea and a break, I would not have eaten either the chips or the grazing snacks.
  1. My body has changed, I could not eat loads of snacks and then still eat dinner. That is good it means I am retraining my appetite and body.

So, new day, new start. Two steps forward, one step back, but we keep moving forward bit by bit.

3 weeks, and 4 kgs (9lbs) I don't think I'm going to make my firstgoal. But I am going to TRY!!

NotWhereIWantToBe · 01/07/2021 10:51

Hello everyone!
I've had a relatively good week so far, with the occasional wobble (well, too much of me wobbles at the moment, but that's why I'm here, isn't it? LOL). I'm away this weekend with my partner so I am planning on doing the same thing I did with my friend last Friday, but with a little less indulgence. We're staying in what looks like a rather nice hotel in the Peak District, so I'm hoping we'll get to do lots of walking to at least partially offset the fine dining. I am still, albeit slowly, heading in the right direction, and it's the first time I've been managing to do that since last year, so I'm counting that as a positive.

ThinWomansBrain · 02/07/2021 07:04

pretty good week - except yesterday, over 19,000 steps - and I've put on half a kilo Angry Sad Angry

herbaceous · 02/07/2021 17:11

I haven't posted much as despondent. Eating around 1,300 calories a day, minus exercise, and have lost.....

Nothing.

Can't do OMAD as working in schools in the morning, and lack of food would cause me to kill small children in rage. Can't do low carb as gives me the squits. And when I've done it before had no effect. May have to eat even fewer calories and do more exercise. ZERO FUN.

Babymamamama · 02/07/2021 17:31

Oh herbaceous that sounds so frustrating. I feel your pain. It’s hard to find what works and we are all different. I’ve lost a couple of pounds this week but feeling anxious again as weekends can be my downfall sometimes. Making DD and her friend pizza for dinner but I’ve already eaten my massive bowl of stir fry veg so I don’t feel too tempted by the pizza. I know my weaknesses by now.
Herbaceous could you do a type of intermittent fasting where you eat earlier in the day and fast for a portion of the day once you’re over the school work later on?

SunscreenCentral · 02/07/2021 17:53

All I can say @herbaceous is that this is a LOT harder than it was even 5 years ago....
I'm throwing the kitchen sink at it this week trying get that start that will motivate me to keep at it.
Seconding the IF suggestion & maybe add more water? (so sick of feckin water). I'm doing 1200kc this week and I feel a bit tired on it even though I'm eating "well" (low carb & lots protein fats veg).
