Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

@AnnaCharles888 that’s very helpful, thank you.
I’m feeling a bit back on track now. I’ve got treats in for dc, and they are calling me from the kitchen, but I’m consciously resisting them.

I’ve bought a couple of dresses on eBay, as I seriously don’t have anything to wear, sort of floaty. That’s my lot. No more. My boobs are depressing me.

NotWhereIWantToBe · 25/06/2021 08:21

I'm meeting up for afternoon tea today with my oldest friend who I've not seen for ages now, thanks to a combination of her living abroad and covid. I am sooo looking forward to seeing her, and doing something "normal" that I've made a conscious decision that I will eat whatever I want while I'm with her. But I shall make up for it by being very sensible for the rest of today, and straight back on "real life" eating after today rather than using it as a justification for falling off the wagon. No idea if it's the right thing to do but I just want to be able to focus on being with my friend and not thinking about what I should or shouldn't eat. Time will tell, I guess but I have at least been consistently losing weight since I joined this thread. :)

Babymamamama · 25/06/2021 09:40

@NotWhereIWantToBe that sounds like a great strategy. I think there’s a great difference between an occasional splurge and everyday mindless eating. Also your friend wouldn’t enjoy the treat eating alone. Have a lovely day.

NotWhereIWantToBe · 25/06/2021 10:10

Thank you @Babymamamama :)

steppemum · 25/06/2021 12:37

Oh I am so bloody hungry!

Yesterday I was just really hungry.
I am doing 16:8 and normally start eating at 12 o'clock. Yesterday I gave in and had a bowl of cereal at 11. I had a sensible lunch, but all afternoon I was hungry and kepy wandering in to the kitchen, remembering I am dieting and drinking tea/water. 30 minutes later I am doin it again.

I am really trying to see the hunger pangs as weight being eaten, but struggling yesterday and today.
The thing is, it is not as if I am eating really low calorie at all.

AnnaCharles888 · 25/06/2021 13:00

@steppemum would it feel different if you stopped telling yourself you're dieting? This probably (at least it did for me) creates all sorts of feelings of deprivation and misery at what I was missing out on.

What could you tell yourself instead? That you're just trying something new? [Does that make you feel more relaxed?]

Or how about that you have a plan and you've decided - end of story. [Does that help you feel more in control?]

And regards your low calorie comment - any time you change what you eat and how much you eat is going to be a change your brain probably will resist (because don't we all hate change!) so don't be hard on yourself.

AnnaCharles888 · 25/06/2021 13:02

@NotWhereIWantToBe that's absolutely excellent! There's no falling off the wagon going on because you've planned you're going to eat with your friend. This is really good because you're not going to get mad at yourself afterwards!

Hope you have a really great time with your friend.

no it is not because I am telling myself I am dieting. It isn't the deprivation and misery, it is literally 'I am hungry'

Once I remember I am not eating, it is fine, but I'm still hungry.

It is just really annoying.

herbaceous · 25/06/2021 14:50

This is also annoying. No extra pounds from a weekend of over-indulgence, but two pounds on this week when I've spent most of it being hungry and depriving myself. FFS.

Babymamamama · 25/06/2021 15:29

@herbaceous that is super frustrating sometimes the scales go the wrong way despite our best efforts. I am even thinking of buying a second set of scales as sometimes I don’t want to believe mine if they don’t show what I want to see. I guess that’s called denial Grin

herbaceous · 25/06/2021 17:25

It's not just a river in Egypt!

RickOShay · 25/06/2021 19:35

@steppemum
If it helps I’m hungry right now. I’m determined not to eat. I’ve been stuffing around, but I really need to lose this weight.
Solidarity from a fellow lardy

steppemum · 26/06/2021 11:31

104 kgs still this morning.

This is my new lowest point, and I've weighed that several days now so feeling good!

Maybe those hunger pangs are doing something Grin

Babymamamama · 26/06/2021 14:06

Oooh steppemum nice one. The hunger pangs are doing their thing definitely.

steppemum · 26/06/2021 14:41

(let's not mention the fizzy cola bottles that I ate this morning - they needed eating up - and the packet of crisps.... Saturdays are usually more relaxed, but this hasn't been a great one.)

ThinWomansBrain · 26/06/2021 14:48

well done steppemum

my weight has started going down on a fairly regular basis instead of plateu-ing or rising - and on reflection, 4kg over 4 weeks is OK.
AND!!! waist and hips both 6cm smaller!!!

steppemum · 26/06/2021 17:59

6cm!!
Well done you.

I really noticed my tummy was softer yesterday. I need to try on some tight jeans!

ThinWomansBrain · 27/06/2021 11:46

WOW - didn't have a brilliant day yesterday, not very active,, a cake in the afternoon and a late night slice of toast; I was tempted to skip the scales this morning.
0.5kg less than yesterday Hmm
My scales occasionally give a random misreading, so repeated about five times, same each time - weird.

Babymamamama · 27/06/2021 12:20

I’m the same I don’t trust my scales at all. I’m going to get another set this week. But I do still seem to be on the downward trend thank god. I’m going out for lunch today. So switching my OMAD to lunchtime. Wondering if that will make me hugely hungry by bed time. Let’s see. My neighbours have started asking me what I’m doing diet wise as they can see the weight coming off so that’s kind of nice. Double chin has mostly gone. Now I want to shed the saddle bags and last of the mumtum.

ThinWomansBrain · 27/06/2021 12:29

anyone here got a brand/model of digital scales they really trust would recommend?

ThinWomansBrain · 27/06/2021 12:32

that's great Babymamamama if acquaintances that don't know your dieting are starting to notice - well done. have a great lunch.

ThinWomansBrain · 27/06/2021 12:39

just found a good housekeeping review of best bathroom scales - mine are in there, so might as well stick with them..

ApolloandDaphne · 27/06/2021 13:32

Can I join you? I am 58 and weigh around 14st. I am so fed up of being a lard arse and need somewhere I can be accountable. I plan to log everything on MyFitnessPal and I am allowing myself 1250 calories per day. I can't be arsed counting veg or salad so this will allow leeway for that. What is everyone else doing?

Babymamamama · 27/06/2021 16:46

Hey ApolloandDaphne I was about the same weight as you when I started. I’m doing one meal a day plus trying to do gym or walking a few times a week. I’m approx half way to my weight loss goal but scared of regaining if I take my eye off the ball. It’s so nice to know others share similar goals.

ThinWomansBrain · 27/06/2021 18:13

Hi Apollo&Daphne - I was just over14st when I started at the beginning of June - now 13.5.
I've subscribed to second nature - but think it's expensive for what it is; the chat forum isn't well used, so you get more from finding a thread on here that you feel comfortable with, and most of the tools are only available on a phone app rather than web-based; I find a phone too fiddly to faff around with writing journals and meal plans.
So basically following or trying to a low carb diet and wean myself off of emotional eating.
