Any Lardy fatties in their 50's want to join me in weight loss

5NOV · 23/05/2021 08:57

Morning, I'm looking for some company in my quest to lose the lard.

I'm useless at dieting, I have managed to shift one stone since Christmas but I keep losing and gaining, rinse and repeat.

Anyone up for joining me.

sorry I couldn't join you Anna, Thursday night is band night for me an dd1.

Would love some summary on here.

Babymamamama · 18/06/2021 09:12

It’s nice for me to know so many others on here are on a similar journey whatever stage they are at, as I’m trying not to discuss too much In real life ....don’t want to make a big deal of it. Except my gym buddy I can discuss with her as she has already lost a significant amount of weight but that’s another story. I’m feeling like having a cheat day tomorrow or switching my OMAD to daytime as all week I’ve been craving a cafe cooked breakfast of all things and I’ve kind of promised DD we will go. I keep dreaming of fried mushrooms for some reason. My Bmi has already dropped from 30 to 26.6 which I’m so relieved about. Still want to lose about another stone so I need to keep going. Some days are harder than others I guess.

Babymamamama · 18/06/2021 09:18

@BrumCahoots welcome I’m going to look into nutracheck sounds interesting.

BrumCahoots · 18/06/2021 09:51

@Babymamamama ... I find it pretty good .. you can scan food to record it .. and set your own goals like low carb etc

Babymamamama · 18/06/2021 11:49

Thanks I’m going to give it a whirl. Anything to keep me going on this journey. I definitely think you’re onto something about it being harder to shift the weight in menopause that’s why I need all the help I can get. I’m about to have my third black decaf coffee of the morning. I’m packing imagination today. When what I really want it is a full fat latte with syrups…

AnnaCharles888 · 18/06/2021 13:14

Thanks for the kind comments on yesterday's talk, ladies; I'm truly happy if even one little thing was of help!

@RickOShay and @steppemum regarding a brief summary: I started by saying that being overweight is caused by overeating. Therefore, rather than addressing the symptom of being overweight with restrictive diets that make you feel deprived and miserable, the better question to ask is: why do we overeat? Only when you get to the heart of the matter will the weight stay off for good.

We do this through addressing overdesire (compare the experience of eating an onion to a pancake with maple syrup - which one do you desire the most?) which is all about using your brain to its best advantage by making decisions ahead of time.

We do this through addressing overhunger (which is where avoiding snacks comes into play because every time you eat you are not giving your body a chance to get energy from your fat stores).

We do this through addressing why you emotionally eat - by looking at what's going on in your mind at what you're thinking when you pick up the biscuits, by not believing the stories you choose to tell yourself ("I'm so bad at losing weight") and by being willing to sit and feel your emotions (eg boredom) rather than dulling them out with food.

I hope this helps? And if there's interest I'd be perfectly happy to do a re-run of yesterday's session at a time that works you and others.

PioneerWoman · 18/06/2021 15:02

Well done ThinWomansBrain and Chelsea567 on your losses. Your hard work has paid off.

3 weeks in for me, I weighed this morning and I had regained 2 lbs. Total loss so far is 6 lbs. Nope I haven’t dived into chocolates or cake, I’ve been eating salad and lean protein all week. Truly, no cheating. It’s not my time of the month either. On top of that I feel a bit weak.

So I have decided to increase my calories, I can’t eat any less and my body clearly isn’t happy. I am going to add another meal into the 16/8 window, today was rye bread and goats cheese. I was hoping to lose a stone fast and the second stone more slowly but I accept it will be a chubby summer for me and I am looking to reach my goals in October now.

I am going to keep eating good nutritious food, no processed junk but yeah more of it. Sorry this is long.

Keep going everyone.

Babymamamama · 18/06/2021 19:27

@AnnaCharles888 Thankyou your summary makes perfect sense. I will reread whenever I feel myself weakening.

MareofBeasttown · 18/06/2021 19:36

Anyone who has less than a stone to lose and finding it hard to get the last of the weight off? My target is only half a stone but I have plateaued.

ThinWomansBrain · 18/06/2021 21:31

wow - 30 to 26 - that's great Babymamamama
that takes you from obese (according to BMI) and the lower end of overweight, you must be delighted.
I will be there SOON

Babymamamama · 18/06/2021 21:48

@ThinWomansBrain thanks I am pleased but I know what I’m like so I’m quite scared of losing momentum and regaining. It’s the brain training that’s the hardest part isn’t it? Keeping on this thread and keeping quite regimented with my eating is really helping me touch wood. I’d like to get to my goal weight by the autumn if I can.

SunscreenCentral · 19/06/2021 00:15

Feeling a bit meh tonight ladies. The scales say I've gone up. I can't see how I possibly could have. I'm low-ish carbing, calorie counting absolutely everything. No alcohol. Working out 4/5 times a week.
I was ramming the water in today and I'm going to Hold Firm. The physics can't be wrong.

SunscreenCentral · 19/06/2021 00:17

Even the five maltesers got counted (maltesers have protein btw. Another good reason to like the little roundy fellas)

ThinWomansBrain · 19/06/2021 02:17

protein in maltesers 😂😂😂
I used to have an excellent book on women's health and nutrition (lent it to someone and didn't get it back) when my GP worked out I was anaemic, I happily told her that there was iron in dark chocolate AND champagne.
She was a lot keener on iron tablets and leafy green vegetables.
Champagne not available on prescription apparently.

ThinWomansBrain · 19/06/2021 02:20

@5NOV - OP, where are you? Your thread is going well, hope that you're OK Smile

ThinWomansBrain · 19/06/2021 02:53

Yeah! I found a copy of the book - 72p on Abe Books
so happy, I used to use it a lot - Jane Clarke's Body Foods For Women: Eat Your Way to Good Health.

Babymamamama · 19/06/2021 08:49

SunscreenCentral Don’t be disheartened. We forget that water weighs just like everything else. That’s why I try to weigh myself after a wee in the morning when I wake up. As I will put on a bit of liquid weight in the day.

SunscreenCentral · 19/06/2021 09:21

Ahhh thanks @Babymamamama Smile I'll keep at it. I have a holiday coming up in August so the motivation is strong. Contemplating trying out @PioneerWoman 's champagne and chocolate plan whilst on said holiday. Just to keep on top of the old nutrition, you know? Wink

steppemum · 19/06/2021 10:22

hmm, not gettign anywhere.

I am doing pretty well on snacks (or rather no snacks)
But I think I need to do more. So I'm going to try 16:8 next week, with no snacks on the hours I can eat.

let's see if I can push it on.
I am away with work at the end of July, and I really want to hit my first goal before then, that is 8lbs away.

RickOShay · 19/06/2021 17:59

Afternoon. Feel like I’m back on track, which could be famous last words. I bought a dress from cos this week, and I looked like an actual bin. Honestly. Really rigid and large, like a bin in a park.

So I’ve got to reign it in. I’m 11st 9.
Pre lockdown I was about 10 6. Id be ecstatic to get under 11 stone tbh, so that’s my goal.

RickOShay · 19/06/2021 18:02

Thank you @AnnaCharles888. That’s useful stuff. In the first scary lockdown I definitely used food as an emotional crutch.

SunscreenCentral · 20/06/2021 22:44

Well Father's Day grub happened. Oh well. You have to live as well! We had Thai takeout from a nice restaurant and I've persuaded myself that's better than the posh pizza kids Dad originally wanted.
Maltesers for dessert so I'm well over my calorie allowance today...
Did workout tho and glugged loads of water!
Hope you all had a nice Sunday:)

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 21/06/2021 09:42

Weekly check in to keep me honest...

V good week last week... completely stuck to plan Mon - Friday , relaxed over the weekend s bit as intended...

so breakfast on Saturday as we were going for a long walk / ended up as neatly 14 miles in the white peak... pub lunch was difficult to find anything low carb so opted for buttermilk chicken from the starter menu, then later a couple of large gins with friends.

Sunday was brunch... Bacon n eggs, then roast without gravy or spuds, a gin whilst working in the garden and a moderate glass of red with dinner...

This morning's weigh in 142.8 down from 149.2 last week so it's back on plan today ... fast800 style but no calorie counting, just no eating before 1 pm and only carbs from fruit n veg...

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 21/06/2021 09:46

I didn't join the zoom l, but the posts about it have been interesting- definitely worth looking at what causes your weight gain and why...

I get into bad habits because the food is there and if I don't grab "my share" then DH and DS will scoff it before I get any... so the answer is don't buy it... DH could do with losing a few pounds and DS will buy his own treats if I don't get any in... (he is 22 😉 so no deprivation)

Babymamamama · 21/06/2021 10:00

Decided to give myself some leeway over the weekend. What a mistake I’ve put on three pounds. How is that even possible in two days. Gutted. But it’s proved to me it’s not worth deviating from the plan at this point.
