knittingnanny l had no chance of resisting the m&s tubs of flapjack bites when they were in the office. Once l get under 10st, I might allow myself some homemade flapjacks

welltidy I'm the same, although tend to try porridge every few years. Each time I'm shocked I can't stand the stuff. Such as shame as its meant to be so good for us, and filling too! A colleague last year suggested I try readybrek in case the finer texture might be better for me. Will give it a go over the next few weeks. 9st3! Well done. Stay off the crisps/ bread etc in the week if you can and you'll be sure to see that number again

WellTidy · 16/05/2021 18:20

Eggs are another thing that I don’t like (unless they’re in a cake or a batter). I wish I did as they’re so versatile and we are always told how filling they are. If I liked porridge and eggs, I’d be as slim as @Knittingnanny I’m sure!

My sleeveless tops and dresses days have gone, I think. Except for then I’m on holiday and it’s hot. I would need to do hand weights and really tone to feel confident, even if I were to continue to lose weight. One step at a time, maybe. I will continue to try and lose the pounds and then think about how to tone what I am left with.

A few years ago, I bought right fitting gym kit as I thought I’d start running. I bought it in a size 12 and a size 14, and didn’t wear any of it as I didn’t run. I don’t know why I thought I would, it clearly wasn’t the fact that I didn’t have the kit that was holding me back! So I tried it all on again today (most of it still has tags on). The size 14s fit fine, and I’m in the 12s but prefer the look of the 14s. Maybe now is the time to start couch to 5k. I will ponder. Can’t be making quick decisions!

WellTidy · 16/05/2021 18:22

Those M&S tubs of anything are a disaster zone for me! Particularly the chocolate corn flake squares. Do they still do the chocolate orange mink roll tubs? I used to love those. They made me very thirsty. So rather than stopping eating, I’d just make a cup of coffee to quench the thirst and keep scoffing. No wonder I got to 10st 13lb so quickly.

AuldFox · 16/05/2021 18:24

I must admit to liking porridge and eggs. I eat one or the other almost everyday.

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 20:34

I seem to have gone off wine. Poured out 240ml (all that was left in the bottle). Had a few sips but then didn't touch it so have poured it back into a bottle to try again tomorrow. Had some dark chocolate buttons instead. I think I'm still wary after the palpitations from a couple of months ago, but no wine for now isn't a bad thing to help aid weight loss, especially if I'm not wanting it so no hardship there.

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 20:36

@neverenoughchelseaboots is this how you felt after dry jan?

WellTidy · 16/05/2021 21:34

@purplegirl13 I can’t drink wine anymore, after not having it during pregnancy. I just can’t stomach it. It tastes way too acidic. I’m not like that about all alcohol through, just wine.

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 21:47

I've been only having 125ml each day and could take it or leave it. It was a bottle of rose. The red l opened a month ago, I drank not even a 1/3 of the bottle over a few days and then gave up.

I've got cranberry juice arriving in this week's grocery order so will be making myself a cosmo next weekend! I did share a bottle of prosecco with a friend a few days ago. Won't bother having any wine again unless I'm really wanting a glass

WellTidy · 16/05/2021 21:50

Cranberry juice is lovely with amaretto and a squeeze of lime, with loads of ice. It’s a short drink, whiskey glass size, and it tastes like a cherry bakewell. I love it!

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 21:53

That sounds amazing! I would have have thought about mixing the 2. I'm on a no alcohol spend until I'm working again but amaretto is on the list for then!

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 21:54

*never thought

neverenoughchelseaboots · 17/05/2021 07:03

Yes, I was very similar @purplegirl13 I eagerly awaited that first glass back and was surprised that it wasn't even that nice!

It's easy to slip back though after two or three tastes. I quickly started again in feb / March and that's when I decided to knock it on the head. I've found it much easier giving up being pregnant this time because I'd already chosen to stop. Although having a few complications and when I got the bad news on Friday I really really wanted a drink, albeit briefly.

I'm with people on the eggs and porridge. DD has just got into porridge this weekend and I was sat with kid's chocolate cereal and felt like a terrible role model. So it might be time I tried it again.

Overall I'm just about starting to have just one or two food indiscretions a day, rather than continually!

@knittingnanny - giving up sugar must be doing the trick, you must be delighted with those numbers!

Knittingnanny · 17/05/2021 09:12

Oh Chelsea are you ok?

WellTidy · 17/05/2021 09:28

I’m sorry you’ve had bad news @neverenoughchelseaboots, how are you?

purplegirl13 · 17/05/2021 10:25

@neverenoughchelseaboots sorry to hear you've had some bad news. Thinking of you x

Knittingnanny · 17/05/2021 10:58

I think the giving up added sugar has had more effect on weight loss than trying to do 10000 steps!
Haven’t walked much in last few weeks as husband is “ going to work” everyday trying to get his formerly rented house in a decent state to get on the market. So I’ve been pottering around, bit of shopping, cups of tea at the beach but driving there not walking, decluttering cupboards etc but not racking up loads of steps.
Still not sleeping though!

Knittingnanny · 17/05/2021 11:00

I might offer to wash a few skirting boards as tomorrow’s exercise! Trying not to get too involved though as he did live there in the mid 90’s with his late wife and the girls. Don’t want to step on anyone’s toes etc!

Gingernaut · 17/05/2021 12:31

I've weighed myself and I'm devastated.

I'm 80kg and because I have the bone structure of a sparrow, should be around 44kg.

36kg is around five and a half stones.

How did I let this happen? I'm wearing size 20 again.

I've got to lose weight all over again.

BlodwinTheThird · 17/05/2021 14:05

Gingernaut I think you’ve taken the most difficult step in getting on the scales. I avoided them for years and when I finally managed to get my head out of the sand I thought the scales must have been miscalibrated!
I bet if you start today you’ll see a small loss by Friday morning - that’s four days. You must honestly input everything into MyFitnessPal though to accurately record calories (if that’s the diet you’re following). I found the first small loss incentivised me to keep going.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/05/2021 15:11

Ah @neverenoughchelseaboots I'm so sorry. That's incredibly rough. Thinking of you Flowers

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/05/2021 15:13

I got through the weekend relatively successfully, no take-aways, moderate alcohol and declined sweet treats.

And today I got DS a happy meal because he had his MMR vaccination and I managed to 'only' get a milkshake. Not very healthy, but that was my lunch. Dinner tonight is kedgeree.

WellTidy · 17/05/2021 15:38

@Gingernaut I started the year at over 68kg, which is the heaviest I've ever been not pregnant, or just post-birth. So I understand where you're at. For me, it wasn't the number that I was seeing on the scales (but that was a shocker, a I thought I was about 5kg lighter than that) but more that my clothes were no longer fitting at all, and I felt out of breath just doing very moderate activity, like going upstairs.

I work in calories, and so I log everything on My Fitness Pal. That, and this thread, helps me be accountable. I haven't cut anything out, but I am much more aware of portion size and just how many snacks I would eat. I eat family dinners every night, just a smaller portion than I used to. I join in with the popcorn to watch a film in front of the tv, but I have a small bowl.

Acknowledging the gain is a great start. Everyone starts somewhere.

Gingernaut · 17/05/2021 17:18

Thank you @WellTidy.

I know. Baby steps

purplegirl13 · 17/05/2021 18:25

I eat eggs, absolutely lovely them - good thing as I'm a vegetarian and it's a good source of protein. I've added ready brek to my next grocery order to see if I can tolerate it.

@neverenoughchelseaboots I drank the wine today and it was fine but I seem to have lost the urge for it, maybe because I've had so little over the past few months so I don't plan opening a bottle anytime soon. I hope you are are doing ok?

@Knittingnanny I'm feeling the same, I do want to get out a bit more but the weather is grim. Hoping it picks up soon.

@Gingernaut you've taken the first step in weighing yourself, now you need to work out what changes are sustainable for you to help move things on.

@SwimmingOnEggshells a milkshake sounds more enjoyable than soup for lunch Wink

Today:
B - honey kefir drink (161)
L - salad with houmous, boiled egg, and avocado (328)
S - peach (59)
D - egg fried 'rice' made with cauliflower rice, steambag veg, mushrooms, egg, and marinated tofu pieces. (324)
Last of the wine that I didn't have yesterday (165)

Total: 1037 which is lower than usual but I'm full. I have the scope for something else if I need it, but don't really want to reach for choc for the sake of it.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 17/05/2021 19:56

Ah thanks everyone, you're such a lovely bunch.

I'm doing okay, I tend to fret about the little stuff in life while taking the big stuff largely in my stride.

I'm always amazed how absolutely amazing the maternity care is at my local hospital. Having lots of tests and we should find out in the next two weeks if there is definitely a problem or not, so not too bad a time frame to work with.

I actually weighed myself just out of curiosity this morning for the first time in ages - 9stone 1. That's amazing considering the amount I've been eating!
