Hi everyone, I hope you're all keeping well. I just caught up with your posts and it's great to see so many of you are getting results.

I completely fell off the wagon 1.5 weeks ago; both DH and I had a week off work so there was lots of nice food eaten and way too much wine. I'm back on it now, but I'm up to 8stone 11.5lbs Argh. We have a house FULL of chocolate which also doesn't help. My ILs are lovely but I really don't need a massive easter egg...oh well it's gone now.

IamHyouweegobshite · 07/04/2021 11:11

Hi, I'd really like to join please. I am 47 and 5'1.5". I weighed in at 79kg. For the last few years I have increased roughly a stone a year. I am so desperate to lose weight for mental and physical health. I have a very poor body image, I'm now in size 14 but tbh some of them are tight on me. I never used to be big, my 20's I was 8st 4. I got married at 29, 9st 3, after 3 children went to 10st 3. It has crept on through injury, illness and lack of exercise. I don't really eat a massive amount of food. I've noticed my joints, hips, knees and back are hurting a lot. I need to lose at least 2 st to be happy. If I could get down below 10 I would be over the moon.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 07/04/2021 13:56

Welcome @IamHyouweegobshite (funny name).

Joining the thread is definitely a step in the right direction. Losing weight can be slooooooow. Accept that you will slip up from time to time but the trick is to get back at it.

BlodwinTheThird · 07/04/2021 14:12

I am about the same as you IamH (age height weight). Have lost about a stone since mid Feb though and already feeling a bit better about myself! I haven’t felt like I’ve really been ‘me’ for several years.

This might help :)

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 07/04/2021 18:42

@purplegirl13 I'm aiming to loosely follow Slimming World as it's always worked for me, but I don't really want to pay for online or Zoom calls instead of actual meetings. But I've struggled without accountability. I make plans then break them if I have a bad day I resort to wine/chocolate/ice cream. Have a terrible sweet tooth

spottygymbag · 08/04/2021 00:37

Love to see the positive trends, and also the acknowledgments of falling off the wagon. I know it helps me not to be too hard on myself and to get straight back on it when I see others do the same.
Have been doing ok but had a non scheduled glasses of bubbles for a surprise celebration, and shared some pizza with DD. Trying to keep my eating habits normal around her because I remember all the diet craziness my mum went through and it definitely shaped my attitude to food.
On a positive note I went for my first run today, just a short one coming back from injury but it felt good!
Weigh in tomorrow!

purplegirl13 · 08/04/2021 10:53

@SwimmingOnEggshells lovely to see you back. I had wondered where you had disappeared to. I think we all need to go slightly off-track sometimes, the key is getting back to it. I think a week off with your DH and some nice food and wine sounds lovely. A nice break from the soup :)

@IamHyouweegobshite welcome

@MyGhastIsFlabbered can you keep the wine/ice cream/chocolate out of the house for a bit?

@spottygymbag good job on the run. As soon as it's possible, I aim to buy a sports bra and start couch25K

Today:
B - nothing
L - avocado, tomato, goats cheese salad
D - baked sweet potato with refried beans and cheddar
Snack options - apple & almond butter, boiled egg

I got a message yesterday inviting me to book my second jab, and they had a slot today so I am off to get my second jab this afternoon! It's a 30min walk there through a park so may go early and do a lap of the park before heading to the clinic.

I am feeling horribly fatigued so instead of being productive and job hunting or cleaning it's going to be a sofa day - but I've got the appt this afternoon to get me up and moving

IamHyouweegobshite · 08/04/2021 11:00

Hi everyone, so today is the day that I start fixing this issue. I went on NHS last night worked out my bmi and I am obese. I cannot allow this to happen anymore.

Today I have had plum, banana and a few raspberries plus water for breakfast. I'm going to have tuna salad for lunch and a chicken stir-fry for dinner.

I am going to make a conscious effort to walk at least 10000 steps a day. Start 0 to 5 k this week and on alternate days do yoga.

I am almost six months post covid, exhausted most of the time, foggy head and take too many pain killers for constant aches. I'm fed up with feeling like this. I'm on tabs that I have gained weight since taking, I can't cut them out, but if I do everything else then hopefully I'm on the right track

WellTidy · 08/04/2021 11:22

scratch All I can say is what works for me. My TDEE, at my height, age and lifestyle, is 1347. It’s not a lot. I am not trying to maintain though, I’m trying to lose weight. So if aim to I create a 350 calorie deficit daily, which is 1000 calories, I can lose weight, with some exercise too. I’m not saying it is right for everyone, it’s just what works for me.

purple your meals and snacks sound delicious

swimming great to see you back

IAmH (love LOD) your plans sound really positive, good luck

spotty the reason I have the same as everyone else for the family dinner (albeit a smaller portion) is because I don’t want DS to be involved in weight loss thinking for now

I am 9st 6.75lb (3/4 of a pound off) today which I am delighted with. Did a seven mile walk yesterday which helped. Sofa day planned for today!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 08/04/2021 11:34

Thanks @purplegirl13 you've an amazing memory for me and my soups Grin tomato soup on my lunch menu again today.

breakfast: skinny capp, greek yoghurt (5% fat) and tiny bit of oat mixed through (lovely and filling)
Lunch: tomato soup
Dinner: sesame noodles with beansprouts and edamame

My 5 year old DS decided he was vegetarian last year and he's very, very serious about it so we've been eating a lot less meat. It's certainly made meal planning more tricky but on the plus-side I'm hoping it'll help me lose a bit more weight. We're still eating fish so that helps with dinner ideas.

@IamHyouweegobshite Be careful not to make it too hard for yourself to begin with and for your dinner make sure you get a good bit of chicken into you. If you eat too little you're more likely to fall off the wagon. I find it's easier to stick at it if you don't feel too deprived

Sooverthemill · 08/04/2021 11:38

@IamHyouweegobshite please be careful with exercise if you have long Covid. The advice from all reputable medics is to do less than makes you fatigued ( or get 'payback'). My DD has very severe ME and I honestly think the well meaning advice from GP 8 years ago to make her exercise following a severe virus is what pushed her over edge. She can't walk, sit up, eat or do anything. Please please take care

purplegirl13 · 08/04/2021 12:14

@IamHyouweegobshite I echo what the others are saying, do not push yourself too far, too quickly. Start slowly, and listen to your body. I wouldn't even worry too much about the exercise for now - start with small walks if you can. Be kind to yourself

@WellTidy I would take that link with a pinch of salt, that was the first ever post from scratch - we know we can't maintain on 1700-1800+ unless we happen to be very active. Enjoy your sofa day!

@SwimmingOnEggshells I need to get back on the soup for lunch habit. I've been having salad but I have IBD and my tummy doesn't like too much raw food.

IamHyouweegobshite · 08/04/2021 14:29

Thank you, I hear you all, too many times I've stopped at first hurdle. I've just come back from a lovely walk with my dog, did 4.8 miles. Over 13000 steps so far. Going to try and be sensible about food, I don't want to starve myself or deprive myself of something. Slow and steady wins the race.

purplegirl13 · 08/04/2021 16:19

I just wanted to share how excited l am to have just had my second vaccination!

Knittingnanny · 08/04/2021 16:32

Purple, that’s good news. Mine is booked for May so the end is nigh.
I’ve decided to try a month of sugar free ( but not giving up fruit or ant veg)to see if it helps with my insomnia. Will eat lots of fish, eggs, cheese and nuts. So not sure if it is going to be up or down weight wise.
Egg for lunch and salmon with lots of veg for tea. Cashew nuts for snacks.
It won’t work for me if I just try to cut down on chocolate, crisps etc so I’ll just have to go cold turkey.
I’m hoping for great things in the sleep department.

Knittingnanny · 08/04/2021 16:32

Any not ant veg!

LondonJax · 08/04/2021 16:41

Can I join you?

I've tried every type of diet in the past - starting in the 90s with the Rosemary Conley diet and exercise classes when I weighed 9st. 13lb. That weight is my target now! Madness.

I've done Atkins, WW, Slimming World, low carb and calorie counting too. I've come to realise at 58 years old that I am a lazy dieter. If I have to think too much - like counting calories or carbs - I become fixated on the food far too much. I lose the weight soon enough and become evangelical about the diet. Then I stop and on it goes.

I was stable at 11st 4lb for the past year despite half hearted attempts at getting it off (a size 16 - my size 14 clothes won't even do up and my size 12s are a distant memory!)

I realised that, in it's purest form, if my current eating was holding me at 11st 4lb, then even cutting 'something' out or putting some exercise in must surely cause some movement in the right direction?

So I'm devising my own 'diet' which basically consists of eating the same as the rest of the family - just less than I would normally do. So when I'm making a sandwich I'll do half a sandwich instead of a whole one.

I've also bought myself a little 'under desk' bike and I use it later at night when DH has gone to bed (I'm a night owl, he's a lark). Apart from getting some exercise it also stops me going into the kitchen to grab some toast (night time is my downfall time). I aim for doing 500 calories on it every day. I'm not at all convinced the calorie count is right but it's a fixed amount I can aim for each day and it's better than sitting on the sofa!

So far it's working. I've lost 7lb in three weeks and managed to have hot cross buns and half an Easter Egg with DH without any gain.

So yesterday I had

B - nothing. I am happy to just have a cup of tea in the morning if it means I can have a yoghurt or a bit of cake later. I just have to educate myself that I can't have both. Both does not work for me.

L - half a sandwich with tuna mayo plus a few olives and two clementines. In the past I would have had a whole sandwich plus the rest - holding that 11st 4lb - so cutting out half a sandwich is cutting down calories without me having to count (and get fixated on food).

D - Spag bol (half the amount I normally make for the three of us) with veg on the side to make up the difference.

And a piece of homemade cake with a cup of tea at my 'danger time'. But instead of my normal piece, same size as DH and DS (14), I cut mine half size. It's enough to satisfy the craving for sweet which is my downfall but I've halved the calorie count that was keeping me at 11st 4lb.

All I've got to do now is keep it going...

LondonJax · 08/04/2021 16:42

Oh, forgot to say I'm 5ft 2inches tall.

Knittingnanny · 08/04/2021 17:13

London, I agree with the smaller versions of family food, I’m still having my tea on my salad plate.

LondonJax · 08/04/2021 17:24

@Knittingnanny. I suddenly realised that it's the way my 'naturally' slim friends have been eating for years!

One of my old school friends has been a size 10 for the 45 years I've known her - and she's had two kids. We all went away for a long weekend pre Covid and she and another school friend whose never piled on the pounds just ate what they wanted. But, we went out on one of the days and had a cream tea. That evening we went to an Italian restaurant. My friend had mentioned - earlier in the day - that she fancied a pizza that night. But she chose grilled chicken. Not because she looked at the calories but because her body said 'can't cope with cream and cheese, too heavy' so she had something lighter.

Whereas I could eat the cream tea and the pizza...

spottygymbag · 09/04/2021 03:57

Well I finally summoned up the courage to step on the scales after the Easter indulgence and many extras that have crept in this week.
67.5 kg
So not down, but not up either. Not as disastrous as I was expecting but definitely time to tighten the reins!

BlodwinTheThird · 09/04/2021 07:57

Same here spotty. 68.1 this week - so have lost a massive 0.2kg 😆. After Easter though I’m just glad I’m not loads up. Now I’m ‘only’ as much as when I was nine months pregnant 😳. BMI 27.6 so still a ways to go before I’m in the healthy range.

TheDogsMother · 09/04/2021 09:16

Considering Easter and chocolate derailing I am 2lb down which was a surprise ! I even changed the battery in the scales to double check. If I've been been eating in a restricted way for a while sometimes a bit of extra food seems to kickstart the progress. I wonder if there is any science in this.

purplegirl13 · 09/04/2021 09:28

So the jab site is slightly swollen and red but I'm keeping an eye on it. No other symptoms.

I'm still feeling slightly fatigued but have my nephew here shortly for the day so that'll keep me distracted and we can watch a film later.

Good luck with going sugar free @Knittingnanny I've had to resort to over the counter sleeping pills this week for the first time in about 10yrs.

welcome @LondonJax

@spottygymbag @BlodwinTheThird You've done well not to gain

@TheDogsMother very impressive. I'd have kept stepping on and off to double check!

So... Friday weigh in. I have lost 1lb taking me from 10st5.2 to 10st4.2. I'm pleased with that, especially as I haven't done so well with my walking this week. Total weight loss 4.6lbs

Today's plan
B - nothing
L - cheesy scrambled eggs with sourdough baguette
D - possibly a mushroom kiev with leftover garlicky courgettes and another veg
Snack options - boiled egg. With my nephew here, maybe some ice cream but am aiming for berries and cream instead
