Can anyone who has lost weight tell me the brilliant side effects?!

So, I want to loose weight, I need to get healthy and fit back into my wardrobe!!

Any other motivation for nice things that happened? I often have swollen feet and hands, so I'm hoping this might change. I have some shoes that are too tight I'd like to wear again.....

I hate the way I wobble when I run so hoping this might change.

Any other things you noticed??

I am in need of motivation so giving this a bump...

sittingonacornflake · 01/03/2021 15:56

I feel happier, much more patient as a mum, more calm and centred but also more energetic at the same time.

@sittingonacornflake

Thank you

Feeling calmer would be a major plus for me.

  1. snoring practically gone
  2. much less back pain (this is coming from both weightloss & increased exercise)
  3. IBS much improved
  4. Increased fitness - able to do types of exerciese i wasn't previously able to

Have lost 2st 12lb

User1511 · 01/03/2021 16:01

More energy. Feeling more confident in clothes. I rediscovered my social life when I lost weight.

IggyAce · 01/03/2021 16:04

I sleep better, sweat less and suffer less joint pain. Plus I felt pretty amazing when I zipped up a pair of size 10 jeans yesterday, never been a size 10 ever.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 01/03/2021 16:04

Another one who's IBS has gone. Clothes look and feel good. I have energy and enjoy moving around now.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 01/03/2021 16:08

Speaking as someone who started out properly obese and therefore, having lost 5 stone, still has at least 2 stone to go (will evaluate from that vantage point):

I don't dam the bath with my bum anymore
I don't take up as much space in the shower
I can cross my legs comfortably
My knees hurt a lot less
I fit better in my clothes
Shoes do indeed fit better
More comfortable lying on my back to read in bed

And I want to add some benefits of exercise (30-60mins brisk walk every other day and 2 weights sessions a week:

So much more energy - for playing with my toddler, carrying her and her stuff when she is tired and we didn't bring the pushchair
Can walk further and further
Can get up from sitting on the floor without using my hands to push up
Far stronger on my feet - ankles and feet much more stable
Generally just much happier in myself and less anxious

Hope that helps, OP. Good luck!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 01/03/2021 16:09

Oh yes and I think I have stopped snoring.

AlexaShutUp · 01/03/2021 16:09

I'm only half way there, but I have lost 3.5 stone so far.

I don't think I look hugely different yet, but my face is much less puffy, I can go up stairs and hills without running out of breath, my knees are no longer swollen and sore, and I can fit into clothes that I haven't worn for years. Plantar fasciitis has also gone. Resting heart rate and blood pressure are both much lower than they were.

I've started running too, c25k. I'm so much fitter and can't believe how much progress I've made - it gives me a huge sense of achievement.

I still feel fat (still am, sadly!) but I definitely feel that my self esteem has improved. Just got to keep going now until I hit my target.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 01/03/2021 16:09

And yes actually my IBS has improved, thinking about it.

Mychitchatdays · 01/03/2021 16:10

The biggest thing I noticed that I wasn't expecting is that people treat you better and with more respect. I lost eight stone a few years ago and I've been able to keep it off.

PrimeraVez · 01/03/2021 16:21

I feel more attractive and therefore more confident (shallow, I know)
I get a lot more pleasure out of clothes and fashion
I feel more like the ‘old’ me, rather than the perpetually knackered mum of two small children
My thighs don’t chafe when it’s hot
I know I am healthier and setting a better example for my kids

LApprentiSorcier · 01/03/2021 16:25

Just joining for inspiration - some brilliant stories here! Well done to all who have lost weight.

whatsoccuringnow · 01/03/2021 16:27

Thank you all, yes this is exactly the type of thing I was looking for! Thighs not chafing as much this summer would be amazing. And my constipation is starting to improve I'd forgotten that!

I only started three weeks ago, so obviously will be a while before I see major changes.

OP posts:
shumway · 01/03/2021 16:29

Not having thigh chub rub when I walk. People not being judgey when I eat something.

Neptunesgiraffe · 01/03/2021 16:33

I have recently lost 4 stone and need to lose another half to have a healthy BMI but I now have tonnes of energy, I can do a few press ups (I've never been able to do them before but I guess it's to do with not being too heavy rather than strength), I dont get much period pain any more, my knees don't hurt and I sleep better.
I was delighted to find out that I can wear the clothes I wore before I got pregnant. And I'm embarrassed to say that they are horribly dated. But it was lovely to be able to buy clothes online (over lockdown) from pretty much any high street store website as I'm now a 12, instead of having to buy from plus size shops. Also cheaper.
I can run for ages. I can cross my legs and tuck the top one behind the other. And I'm just generally feeling better with less aches.

Namechangeforthewin · 01/03/2021 16:34

I'm not as tierd anymore. I've been painting dd bedroom and up and down ladder no bother even stood on some furniture and it didn't protest. My feet don't hurt when walking all day. I feel happier. I want to do more things like say walk to the park or shop more.

PermanentTemporary · 01/03/2021 16:36

Leg/hip aches gone
Able to walk in beautiful places for as long as I like
Able to buy standard sizes at least in some shops (I'm a weird shape, can't fix that!)
Having more sexual confidence- it shouldn't matter but it bloody did. I've had amazing sex since I lost weight and its mostly about my own confidence.

Loopyloututu2 · 01/03/2021 16:42

Don’t feel borderline suicidal any more (I think this was also largely to do with lockdown and the grim weather tbf but losing weight has a massive influence on my MH)
Can run up the stairs no problem.
Can zip my jeans up without the zip instantly popping back down again.
Sleeping better and getting up earlier in the mornings.
So much more energy.
Enjoy my food much more as now I plan what I eat and have a “treat/cheat” day - I really savour my food rather than just mindlessly stuffing my face.
Feel excited about wearing nice new clothes in spring/summer instead of dreading it.

I’ve just realised my IBS has gone too thanks to other posters!

bibbidybobbidyboo · 01/03/2021 16:44

Never get out of breath doing everyday life or chores
Don't arrive places in a sweaty fluster
Feel braver and more enthusiastic trying new things (not so worried I'll fall over in a wobbly ungainly mess)
Clearer skin
Don't get horrible cracking skin on my feet and athletes foot like I used to (I don't know if this was weight related but it seems to have gone away since I lost weight)

bibbidybobbidyboo · 01/03/2021 16:50

Oh and agree with everyone about the energy and not being tired thing.

Also this one is a bit more niche but the first time I went on a skiing holiday after getting fit, I finally understood that all the dreadful stuff I associated with skiing before (getting hot and out of breath walking carrying with skis, the difficulty getting up after I fell over, the UNBEARABLE muscle aches on day 3 of the holiday) were actually the result of being unfit. Everything was suddenly so much easier, and therefore much more enjoyable.

Noshowlomo · 01/03/2021 16:56

God this thread is amazing. Thank you for starting OP xx

AnnieJ1985 · 01/03/2021 17:00

Nearly 2 stone off, so halfway to my goal.

I am sleeping much better, and have more energy. I am not a big fan of exercise but I am enjoying walking, and for the first time in ages I am pushing myself harder to try to better my steps/times.

Less puffy (as well as less fat) - my hands, ankles/feet and face were so bloated.

Can fly upstairs if I need something, rather than tying it in with a trip to the loo, to save myself from getting out of breath.

My clothes fit without looking like I've been through a sausage maker.

Cravings for junk have gone. I have one treat meal at the weekend, but once that has gone, that's me for the next 7 days.

And... saving a fortune because I am meal planning and not buying rubbish. Time saving too.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 01/03/2021 17:06

Lost 20lbs. I am enjoying clothes looking nice and just feeling like myself, instead of ashamed at having eaten myself so much bigger.
