Can anyone who has lost weight tell me the brilliant side effects?!

So, I want to loose weight, I need to get healthy and fit back into my wardrobe!!

Any other motivation for nice things that happened? I often have swollen feet and hands, so I'm hoping this might change. I have some shoes that are too tight I'd like to wear again.....

I hate the way I wobble when I run so hoping this might change.

Any other things you noticed??

I've lost over 20kg but still have nearly 30kg to lose to get to a healthy BMI. Some of the good stuff so far has been:

  • loads of extra energy
  • no more knee and hip pain
  • up and down stairs without it being an ordeal
  • being able to run if I need to
  • not constantly tugging and adjusting clothes that don't quite fit properly
  • enjoying trying on and wearing clothes, wearing things I like rather than things that fit...
TaraR2020 · 01/03/2021 17:11

Op if I were you I'd keep a diary of unpleasant side effects you experience due to your weight as well as the great ones you get from losing weight so that you can look back and remind yourself of all the little positive changes you experience

zzizzer · 01/03/2021 17:23

It's amazing. No anxiety or IBS. Lots of energy. I feel all muscly and toned all over my body.

It has genuinely been life changing for me and I can see why people get preachy about it and zealous about things like sugar and salt and processed foods.

I'm only annoyed that I didn't work out the ludicrously basic principles of eating healthily and exercising until pretty much turning 40.

What a waste of early life that was!

Reinventinganna · 01/03/2021 19:11

I really like this thread! I don’t have a massive amount to lose but this will definitely spur me on!

legohouse · 01/03/2021 19:20

For me it's being able to throw on a pair of jeans and a top... just easy and no worries

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 01/03/2021 19:39

Turns out high heels aren't as uncomfortable for less fat people, presumably because there's less weight on the ball of your foot. Who knew, I've always been obese and thought that everyone's feet hurt that much but since losing 4 stone they're much more comfortable.

Clothes are easier to buy when you can get a size 16 instead of 22, much more choice.

More energy
Can run round the park with DD and not feel like I'm dying

SkeletonSkins · 01/03/2021 19:43

I’ve lost 2 stone, another half to go to hit healthy BMI.

Being able to pick clothes I like in shops, rather than just ones that will be flattering

All clothes are more comfortable, no digging in

Improved mood cause I don’t feel self conscious

Happier to be in photos

My palette has changed so now I don’t mind eating veggies and don’t crave sugar constantly/after every meal

When I lie down my hip bones just out 😂

SkeletonSkins · 01/03/2021 19:43

Oh and my hooded eyelids have improved a lot.

wizzbangfizz · 01/03/2021 19:44

Placemarking for motivation

This has been such a happy read. Stay well and keep moving. I love this thread.

Teacaketotty · 01/03/2021 20:06

I lost a little over 6 stone last year, for me I would say;

• I can run around after my toddler so much easier and dread to think how I could have previously
• I can buy clothes and know they’ll always fit so no squeezing into jeans etc
• My DH says I’m the sexiest woman ever and our sex life has improved massively - I know he’s always loved me but the compliments are great
• I know going into my next pregnancy I’ll be so much healthier and no gestational diabetes test this time!
• I have loosened my diet now but finding maintaining easier than I thought as I don’t crave bad food as much as I used to

Just a few, best of luck to everyone! x

Knees no longer hurt
Legs are toned, not dimpled cellulite
I dropped a shoe size
Belly fat eradicated
I like what I see in the mirror
Running mentally helps me, so more positive
Hands are not as fat

PermanentTemporary · 01/03/2021 21:25

Just to say - I started with 27 kg to lose and at best still had 7kg to go (gained a bit back but losing again now). I noticed the difference in my life really quickly. It's not as if the improvements only come at the end, life gets a lot better quite quickly, for me once I'd lost about 5-8% of my weight.

MiddlesexGirl · 01/03/2021 21:33

Clothes look so much better on me.
There's a spring in my step (most days!)
I can wear skinny jeans (for a short while)
I can wear boyfriend jeans almost all day which is unheard of.
My legs look longer
Knees have stopped hurting
Ankles rarely swell up
Just generally feeling a lot more confident

FluffyBlueJumper · 01/03/2021 21:34

I am over 4st lighter than last autumn, and about 7st lighter than my heaviest weight.
Sunny days are coming back and I will not need anti chafing cream to wear skirts.
I have a lot more energy for everyday stuff.
I love choosing a nice outfit for the day instead of throwing on whatever is big /stretchy enough.
I can do harder hiit workouts, which I truly enjoy.

lissie123 · 01/03/2021 21:42

Can cross my legs properly
Wear a bikini with reasonable confidence
Not be constantly dissatisfied about my body and how it looks
Wear lovely clothes
Not medically vulnerable
Lost 2 stone

LaceyBetty · 01/03/2021 21:47

The world of clothes available. Like being able to look in my closet or walk into a shop and be sure I'll see at least a few things I will look good in.

Vickles20 · 01/03/2021 21:53

Positives massively outweigh negatives and too many to list.
But the main one is I no longer get verbally abused whilst out.

Fat fuck (whilst pushing my new baby in her pram)
Whale, Lardy Lady, You name it, I’ve been called it.
I’ve been spat at. Lifted up and carried by men.

notmethenwho · 01/03/2021 22:05

It's just so much more comfortable!

Noshowlomo · 01/03/2021 22:16

That’s horrendous @Vickles20 bloody wankers

AnnieJ1985 · 02/03/2021 07:18

@Vickles20 that is awful. I don't understand how people can be so nasty.

CarlottaValdez · 02/03/2021 07:34

I’d agree that the changes come quite quickly especially if you’re exercising. I’ve lost 35lbs and need to lose another 20 ideally.

After 10lbs all my clothes were more comfortable. I stopped feeling like I had to change into my pyjamas to be comfy on the sofa. As I’ve gained fitness I’ve stopped minimising movement (which I don’t think I’d realised I did before) so like a PP said I’ll just run up the stairs to fetch something without giving it a second thought.

Oh a very specific one - I can go on the swings with DS at the park now! My arse will fit between the chains.

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 02/03/2021 07:40

What a great thread and awesome results. Round of admiring applause all round (except for the wankers in @vickles20 post - dickhead twats).

whatsoccuringnow · 02/03/2021 07:42

I am 2.5 stone overweight. May not sound much but I'm only 5ft. I had been convincing myself I don't mind being curvy, there is enough going on with work, kids, house, pandemic etc but something hit me a couple of weeks ago and it was like....an epiphany?! I just realised I'm always tired, have no energy and my confidence is rock bottom. My skin was dull, I can't fit into any clothes and my face was so puffy.

I'm 3 weeks into a PT online programme. Walk/jog 5 miles most days. Starting to loose a couple of lbs but the main difference is my head and my energy levels! I want to be this person, I'm frightened I'll talk myself out of it, so I'm really focusing on the benefits and seeing weight loss as a happy side effect of feeling better, instead of the main goal. The things you have all mentioned are the things I'm looking forward to pushing me on!!
