Anyone keen for a 6 week challenge?

NoNameNellie · 07/02/2021 18:50

I do well with shorter goals and am hoping to focus on shifting some weight and being more active.

Anyone else care to join and see how much weight we can shift (sensibly!) in the next 6 weeks?

People are welcome to join anytime, I personally will be counting from Monday 7th until March 22nd. I was hit pretty hard by lockdown and am the biggest I’ve ever been... I’ve already managed to shift a little bit of weight, now looking to tackle my long term eating habits and sedentary lifestyle in the coming period.

I’ll be sticking to the following :

 1. No snacking.
 2. 5 fruit/veg per day, protein source at every meal.
 3. Trying to hit 10,000 steps a day.

Other than that, I’m not following any diet in particular, I’m trying to change my habits for the long haul. And of course, being comfortable in summer will be an added bonus!

In these 6 weeks, I’m hoping to shift 8-9 pounds, as well as losing a couple of inches off my belly and bum.

Any takers?
@CarlottaValdez I'm also aiming to get to 'just' overweight!

After Monday's weigh in, I went a bit rogue. It was all because dh waltzed in that evening with a tin of Diet Coke. On a Monday? What extravagance! So then I wanted one & had to put a fire on to make more of the celebrations. One thing led to another & in the end I ate a whole big bag of sensations oriental spare rib crackers 😬. The next morning I had 2.5lb on -wtf?!

For my penance I still went walking in the pouring rain yesterday morning & have clocked up 16k steps today.

Hoping I can pull it back to get 2lb off next week which would take me down into the next stone bracket so in my head I can round my weight way down! 😂

Definitely in need of some cooking inspiration. Will check out the LM sausages
Those crackers are the business!

Everyone had an ice cream on our walk today. I didn't have anything, not because I have self control, no. The delivery with the magnums wasn't in yet. Thank goodness.

Grapefruit for breakfast, salmon and eggs for lunch. Probably more salmon for dinner.

I want a magnum.

ChonkyChook · 25/02/2021 13:32

Meant to say, I'm plateauing. Even though my period is gone.

NoNameNellie · 25/02/2021 20:35

Nice one @Fembot123!

Try not to stress @ChonkyChook, it happens. Also, it's a good thing to be able to maintain your weight! Can you maybe do a few days over very clean eating or a good cardio session to kick start things again?

It's frustrating though, I get it! I thought I had plateaued last week, but it was just my period! I just try and think that even if I "only" lose 1 - 1.5kg a month, I'll have lost 4-6kg by the end of June! That's a pretty solid weight loss and it's also sustainable - I don't want to go on a mad diet to have it pile back on the second I return to something resembling normal eating.

Howdy Sixers !

I hope you've all been getting some of this lovely weather, wherever you are!

I kicked off the morning with a little ab and bum workout from youtube, then had to skip breakfast as I was cutting it fine to get to work.

For lunch, I had two salads as I thought I'd need to fuel up after missing breakfast, but it turned out to be quite a lot in the end. Dinner is going to be ravioli, with a little dark chocolate for dessert. I denied myself the crips aisle - my absolute nemesis - so I better see some results on Monday!

Hi @NoNameNellie, well done on the will power! Our boiler has died so I did a 15 minute cardio dance thing as it was all I could fit in before boiler man came and I had to go to work. Im going to try and not let the weekend be my weak end 😄 but no promises 😛

JemimaMuddledUp · 26/02/2021 20:02

Today was a good day.

Breakfast - melon, blueberries, yoghurt
Lunch - sushi
Dinner - baked potato, cottage cheese, salad

NO SNACKS

Did a 45 minute yoga class and a 90 minute walk this afternoon.

I need to crack getting this much exercise and eating fewer snacks when I'm working. Was a day off today and it was so much easier.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 26/02/2021 22:45

@NoNameNellie it's predicted to be nice here tomorrow too, the DC and I plan to drag DP out for a long walk. No doubt he will moan and groan before we've gone very far, but the DC have lots of energy to burn Grin

@PurpleDaisies I'm on the lookout for inventive recipes featuring kale - got a massive box in my veg box - might have to try that curry!

I did a big supermarket shop the other night @ChonkyChook and stocked up on Cornettos for the DC. It took a lot of willpower not to buy myself some ice cream too...

Turefu · 27/02/2021 06:48

69.5kg, great. I’m going to have little break from my diet over this weekend and then I’ll start again from Monday.

MotherofPiggies · 27/02/2021 09:28

I’ve been following this thread with interest and picking up lots of ideas - have even ordered the Linda Mccartney sausages😊

For the past month I have
Stopped eating bread (big trigger food for me)
followed 16:8
given up sugary foods for lent
10,000 steps a day
Two 5k runs a week
Tracking everything I eat/drink on mfp

And have lost........ nothing!😂

Haven’t gained though and feel better, so will carry on.

I’m 50 and have a stone to lose. I’m going to start meal planning (another tip from this thread) and reduce carbs to see if this make a difference.

ChonkyChook · 27/02/2021 10:07

That day's menu sounds perfect, Jemima!

It's so hard resisting when everyone else is having Clara. Well done.

I'm accept that this will be a plateau week. Sticking to plan. Going to up the exercise and drop 500 Cal's across the week next week, see how that goes for me.

ChonkyChook · 27/02/2021 10:18

Meant to add. My best advice for meal planning on a diet is not to have everything too complicated or stuff that needs prep. Have a few really quick meals that stick to plan that you enjoy eating.

Mine are eggs and spinach, veggie stir fry and salad wrap w/hummus. I always have grapefruit prepared for my breakfast too.

I always have the stuff in for these meals, stops me reaching for the snacks we get for the kids (crisps/biscuits/bread).

Fembot123 · 27/02/2021 10:27

That’s frustrating @MotherofPiggies, what has MFP set as you daily allowance?

Fembot123 · 27/02/2021 10:29

12 ounces off, gotta love digital scales 😁

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2021 11:05

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I’m not sure I can count my curry at too inventive-it was most definitely a mid week quickie one with a cheat jar of sauce! The combo was great though. Stir fry an onion. Cut up the straight part of a butternut squash and microwave covered for about five minutes until tender (you can roast it to make it even nicer but I didn’t have time). Slice up the kale and add to the onion for a few minutes until the stalks aren’t rock hard. Add a jar of curry sauce, the butternut squash and a tin of drained chick peas. Heat through until everything is cooked.

I’ve made this curry a lot with kale instead of spinach and really like it. I’m not a massive fan of cardamom so leave that out. It’s great to batch cook and freeze.

I think kale is great with pretty much any daal. And stir fried and added to mash. Or baked in the oven until crispy.

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2021 11:39

Should say, using the straight part of the squash was just for ease of peeling and cutting up! I now always split the fiddly rounded part in half, scoop out the seeds and roast in the oven because it’s so much less effort. I often fill them with cous cous, tabbouleh, bolognese, chilli etc or blend them without peeling Adonis coconut milk and Thai curry paste for soup.

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2021 11:42

Adding. Not Adonis. Confused

I have to confess to a chippy tea last night after a dodgy day of endo period pain and migraine. Today I’m back on it (in a weekend way) with leftover miso corn and red cabbage salad for lunch and some sort of stir fry based fake away tonight with little spring rolls as a starter to make it more Saturday night appropriate.

MotherofPiggies · 27/02/2021 12:36

@Fembot123

That’s frustrating *@MotherofPiggies*, what has MFP set as you daily allowance?
1490 calories per day. I don’t log any exercise so stick to this as my daily limit.
Fembot123 · 27/02/2021 13:01

I went for a run in the sunshine with my DS.

NoNameNellie · 27/02/2021 19:14

Good thinking @Turefu I always start off really well, then beyond a certain point it gets really hard to maintain.

@MotherofPiggies That's so frustrating! But it sounds like you're doing all the right things - maybe just a little plateau?

@PurpleDaisies Don't beat yourself up! For this to be sustainable, we have to allow ourselves some food that is less than healthy, otherwise you're just on a diet for life, which is joyless...

@Fembot123 Nice one! It's so much easier when the good weather is here. I'm hoping that having got my act together early for once, I'll be svelte as can be come summer Grin

Had an OK day, I've done a big food shop to set myself up for the week, so hopefully I'll be on the right track!

I woke up late so just had a late brunch - multigrain bread with avocado, bacon and eggs this morning. I may have also polished it off with a sneaky mini chocolate cake...

Dinner tonight is homemade pizza - I'm trying it for the first time and annoying I think I've fucked the dough by not adding enough yeast... It's in the oven now, so we'll soon see!

I've opted for an all veggie pizza instead of my usual pepperoni and cheese grease fest. I've trying so hard to break my takeaway habit!

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2021 22:12

Thanks @NoNameNellie, feeling virtuous after tonight’s veg feast fake away. 😇 It was bloody lovely too. I’m still feeling a bit sub par with the endo but it was nice to get out for a sunny walk.

How did your pizza turn out? I’m trying to revive my sourdough starter from lockdown one that’s been languishing unfed in the fridge. One of the things I liked making with it was pizza dough! Well done on resisting the take away.

clto2021 · 28/02/2021 07:52

All going in the right direction 😊 next month's aim is to get out of the 13s 🤞

7th Feb: 13st 12lbs
14th Feb: 13st 10.5lbs
21st Feb: 13st 8.5lbs
28th Feb: 13st 6lbs

CarlottaValdez · 28/02/2021 08:41

I’m a bit down again today. It’s interesting looking at the overall trend which is about half a pound a week but for 8 months now. Downside is nobody notices but upside is that I feel like it’s more sustainable.

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2021 09:08

Checking in. My by no means accurate and not digital scales suggest I've lost around three quarters of a stone over last 8ish weeks so I'm pretty happy with that. Managing to up my steps, keeping a short app daily and running once a week and doing a fitness class once a week. Trying mainly to do things that I can maintain as a life style choice rather than just a quick fix in both diet and activity. Happy with my healthy eating plan and actually very few things I really miss so will largely stay on it with just a few additions that I've really missed when I reach my goal weight, that way I should hopefully maintain. That's the principle of the Louise Parker method anyway which is why I went for it. Time will tell!

Fembot123 · 28/02/2021 17:47

Sorry to hear that @CarlottaValdez, it sucks when you feel bad. Hope things are brighter asap
