HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 08:34

I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

It is discussed on another forum here^^, if anyone is interested.

There's a message board, owned and modded by Reinhard the author of the No S Diet.
It's fairly quiet these days, but may be helpful.
The Daily Check In section tends to be more active than the General discussion bit.
There's also a FB group, also modded by Reinhard.

Thank you! I'll check it out Smile.

Should have said earlier, my goal weight is probably about 40 lbs lower than I am, but I'll take any loss at this point! Just sick of getting fatter every year Blush.

So far, so good. I've had a good, healthy breakfast of porridge and fruit. Think evenings will be the harder part for me

Good luck with it! It's a very sensible plan.
HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 16:49

Yes, I think it looks sensible and sustainable. Think breaking the snack habit at the beginning is the difficult part. So far, so good today although I'm already planning dinner and it's v early.

OP posts:
gracelessladyhottramp · 03/02/2021 16:53

I'll join you!! I like the sound of it. I spent most of January fasting for 18 hours a day and eating low calorie and I barely lost anything. I then crashed and burned and gorged.

I'll weigh myself in the morning.

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 17:32

Hurray! Glad of the company @gracelessladyhottramp.

Lord, that sounds very hard work to stay the same weight Shock.

I think this is good, as it helps people feel a bit less crazed around food. You know when your meals are, and that, theoretically, is that. So even if weight loss isn't terribly dramatic, I'd like to feel on a more even keel around food. I can be a bit feast or famine sometimes.

OP posts:
gracelessladyhottramp · 03/02/2021 17:38

Yes. Definitely feast or famine here too. I will probably still fast as I find it fairly easy - I eat an early lunch and then an early dinner with the kids and it kind of compartmentalises it all a bit!!! If I have breakfast I seem to carry on all day.

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 19:00

Yes, there seem to be a lot of benefits to fasting. Once I'm in the 3 meals a day and nothing else habit, I might join you!

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/02/2021 08:27

Morning!

Yesterday went to plan. Need to do the same again today.

I also did some exercise yesterday evening. But achey today actually, but I'm sure this is a good thing!

OP posts:
gracelessladyhottramp · 04/02/2021 09:55

Morning @HenriettaHeffalump!!! I forgot to weigh myself this morning!! I'm pretty sure I'm about the same as you though (which is quite nice somehow), I'm 2 inches shorter at 5.6" though!!

I had mango this morning with the children and now the flood gates have opened. I've moved onto snacking - suddenly ham and pieces of dark chocolate seem like a sensible idea.

Tomorrow I'm going to weigh myself first thing and it's back to waiting until lunch and the three S's!!!

Well done on the exercise. Your post last night motivated me to do a HiiT too.

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/02/2021 10:07

Ah weight twins Grin! Yes, nice to have a similar starting place.

Oh well done on the HIIT! Do you do it online?

I've got a new spin bike, (classic lockdown move). It is a lot harder than I anticipated it being, which was very ignorant/naive of me Blush. Ah well, I'm sure it must be good for me.

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/02/2021 19:58

I've stuck to my plan today. I have drunk some calories on both days, (small glass of milk yesterday, small glass of juice today), which is allowed. Otherwise, I have just had my meals and cups of tea, water. A wobbly moment or two late this afternoon / early this evening, but I still haven't eaten dinner and I'm not fussed, which for me is Shock. I'm planning a light dinner with DH in a bit, but I'm completely fine, having not eaten since lunch, which really wasn't massive. This should not be surprising, but I must admit I am a snacker usually, and rarely go from lunch to late dinner without a snack or five.

Also, I am finding that I'm able to focus on other things. Wondering, much to my embarrassment, just how much my mind has been on food recently. One eye on the fridge at all times Blush.

Anyway, I know it's very early days, but I feel quite positive at the moment.

OP posts:
gracelessladyhottramp · 04/02/2021 20:18

@HenriettaHeffalump that's brilliant!!! Well done, I'm so pleased you're off to such a good start.

I have eaten mindlessly ALL day. One eye on the fridge was definitely me today. Here's what I'm taking away from it ..

  • I'm not a breakfast person. It just makes me crave food for the rest of the morning.
  • And then I don't eat a proper lunch. The last month or so I've been really satisfied with soup for lunch but today I was on the prowl and I felt somehow soup wouldn't be filling enough, yet when I don't eat breakfast soup feels wholesome and filling.
  • I thought I was doing so well through January eating low calorie and fasting but that doesn't mean anything if I fall off the wagon and consume food mindlessly. I really wouldn't be surprised if I ate the equivalent of 4/5 low calorie days in one day today. Which is actually quite horrifying.
  • linked to the above. It really doesn't mean anything if I work hard for 3/4 weeks and then fall off the wagon and before I know it two weeks have passed (and then two months etc).
  • my "falling off the wagon" was my sons birthday 2 weeks ago. I was actually quite mindful on that day, it just would have been a big food day but instead of waking up the next day and carrying with good habits it was the start of a downward spiral. I'm sure I ate worse today than on my sons birthday and today it was anything but mindful.

Anyway, apologies for the essay. I want to be accountable and feel it will be helpful for me to come back and read how I felt before starting again.

Tomorrow is day one!!!!

HenriettaHeffalump · 04/02/2021 20:34

Not at all! I really believe that so much about how we eat is psychological, so it helps, I think, to write it all down.

The idea with No S is that you have planned days to have a treat and enjoy it, but then you have to get back to it on the Monday. Hopefully it's doable for me! Something needs to be, God knows!

OP posts:
gracelessladyhottramp · 04/02/2021 22:06

Absolutely. I think it would be easy in the first flush of enthusiasm to ignore the treat days on Saturday and Sunday - but you're right, that would probably be a mistake. The treat days will teach us how to indulge and then get back on it on the Monday.

Bramblecrumble · 05/02/2021 06:50

Hi can I join. My sister had great results with this. She did plato like any diet, so she reined it in a bit on Saturday and Sunday.
Weight:65kg
BMI: 24.4
Waist:87cm
So my BMI is okay but my waist is nearly at the 'see a gp' size according to the NHS as I have a small frame and a large tummy. This year has been hard not to snack as my hospital workplace has been providing some free food.
I've started the day with marmalade on toast

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/02/2021 08:21

Yes, welcome @Bramblecrumble Smile.

Maybe you'll find, with you being a normal weight, that weight loss is incredibly slow. But, it's just a healthy way to behave around food imo, so healthy in the longterm. Maybe you'll lose waist cms as less salt and sugar, due to no snacking, (depending on how your current diet is obviously).

All fine yesterday. Woke up this morning a bit "ugh again?" but then reminded myself I'm not depriving myself of anything really. Nothing at all wrong with three good, healthy meals a day!

gracelessladyhottramp · 05/02/2021 09:25

Hello @Bramblecrumble!!!!

gracelessladyhottramp · 05/02/2021 09:27

Ok. I weighed this morning and I'm 13.11 stone. BMI 31. Let's do this!!!!

gracelessladyhottramp · 05/02/2021 09:30

How often is everyone planning on weighing? Shall we have a weigh in day every Friday?

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/02/2021 09:35

Yeah we can do Friday weigh in! Probably the best day as it is the last day of No S-ing for the week.

I might weigh myself in between, but wont necessarily log it on here, as it fluctuates so much.

Good luck today Grin!

OP posts:
Bramblecrumble · 05/02/2021 15:45

Okay. Starting Monday....had a kit kat. I have allready posted my weigh in

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/02/2021 15:56

Fair enough @Bramblecrumble! Monday is a good day for a fresh start.

I'm doing fine. Sticking to plan. Feel absolutely fine!

OP posts:
gracelessladyhottramp · 05/02/2021 18:06

All good here too. I struggle between lunch and dinner but otherwise it's fine.
