I'm the fattest I have ever been and need to take drastic action for the sake of my health and sanity. I am 15st8 🤦‍♀️ was a stone lighter at nine months pregnant!!

Going to weigh in every Monday and hoping some of you lovely ladies will join me so we can keep each other motivated.

@SnorkMaidensTummy

I'm in.

I have about 6 stone to lose and struggling to motivate myself or get into a routine. After a change in personal circumstances I moved in with my parents and here for the foreseeable. Its difficult as the eat differently to how I prefer to eat and my mum does most of the cooking. More traditional, lots of meat, pastry foods etc. I'm more into salads and lighter evening meals. I'm going to bite the bullet and do my own meals separately even though this will upset my mum.

I struggle with exercise as I like swimming and cycling and I haven't been able to do these with my daughter (4). I used to cycle to work pre daughter which was 18 miles round trip. The great news is she has just learnt to cycle without stabilisers. I'm contemplating getting a Weeride in 2021 so we can cycle further than if she's on her own bike.

Surely your mother wouldn’t be upset if you’re 6 stone overweight and trying to make some dietary changes to lose weight?

Yesterday was good - healthy meals and 10k steps - and then a couple of drinks in the evening and it all went downhill into a bowl of party food leftover from Xmas!

Still, onwards and downwards!!

Guardup · 31/12/2020 10:31

Aching from my run yesterday this morning. I ate really well yesterday. I had ‘healthy pancakes’ made with cottage cheese and rye (I think) flour, coconut sugar and a few blueberries. They are really tasty and were part of a £500 diet plan I got suckered into once in desperation. If anyone wants the recipe let me know.

I then had an omelet and salad for lunch and home made spaghetti for tea. My one vice was that I shared some wine with my husband. But that will stop from now. I felt compelled as it was open from Christmas and was an expensive drop.

@SnorkMaidensTummy I have a daughter of similar age to you and I bought a bike seat for her to fit onto my bike. I suspect she will be able to use it for at least another year so maybe you could look into that if you like cycling? The extra load will help with burning the calories and you may be able to go a bit further? If I have the time I always cycle her places- I find it sometimes is quicker than the car as there are so many places to cut through and I’ve really got a feel for my local area.

YourWurstNightmare · 31/12/2020 10:40

@Guardup I love cottage cheese (I know, what a saddo Grin) so I'd love the recipe when you have time.

SnorkMaidensTummy · 31/12/2020 11:28

@Guardup thanks I did have a child bike seat but gave it to my sister. My weight alone is over the maximum load limit (14stone)for the bike so I was thinking that I would lose the weight so I could get on the bike and then get used to cycling again then put my daughter on the bike seat. It didn't happen. I thought my daughter would be too big by the time I could lose the weight in the end and my sister is cycling regularly and was looking for a seat for her 18mnth son. So at least she would be using it.

Just getting on my bike and cycling around the close we live on has cheered me up. I'm looking forward to getting further. Just hoping not to damage the bike being over the load limit.

EspressoExpresso · 31/12/2020 12:51

Absolutely gutted. Had just convinced myself that I have the balls to go actual swimming (rather than splashing about with a toddler) by myself, worked out when I could fit the pool timetable into my working week. I have everything I need to no requirement to buy stuff in a larger size to actually fit. Booked for Tuesday as it's a nursery day. Even started looking forward to it...

And now we're tier 4 and everything is shut

Me too please, I’m on shakes at the moment so I don’t have to think about food (I binge) but I’m looking for some bits to switch onto when the compulsion is gone.

EspressoExpresso is there an option number 2 instead of swimming?

Guardup · 31/12/2020 13:14

@SnorkMaidensTummy you have a very lucky sister - how lovely of you to give it to her. I hope I didn’t sound preachy- I just love cycling around so thought it might solve a problem. I often get the feeling of Bridget Jones walking over tower bridge when I’m out on my bike- chuffed to bits and it feels like I’m living! Small pleasures! I’m glad you enjoyed your ride out.

@YourWurstNightmare - prepare for a cottage cheese feast! This makes about 5/6 for me and I have one and put the others in the fridge. Probably for no longer than 2 days. My children and husband love them too so we all eat them.

What you need

200g cottage cheese
2 eggs
2 tbsp coconut sugar (but I just use whatever I have like maple syrup or honey)
2 tbsp coconut oil
80ml coconut milk
160g wheat flour (but again use whatever I have - avoiding white flour)
2 tsp baking powder
A few raspberries
A few blueberries

Put the cottage cheese, egg, sugar in a bowl and whisk. Add the oil and milk and mix again. Mix in the flour and baking powder until smooth mass forms.

Hear a non stick pan. Place 2 tbsp of the dough per one pancake in the pan. Level the surface and and pop a few berries on top. Fry until brown (about 2 mins) and flip over and cook on other side.

Serve on its own or with Greek yoghurt and a sprinkle of low sugar granola.

I hope you like them!
X

@sup1979 yes she does want me to make changes but she can take it personally/offence if I say I don't want dinner. Ive spoken to her and she's ok with it. We'll see how it goes.

This cauliflower recipe is delicious and it makes a good light meal/supper.

Had a binge late last night on mini cream cheeses and Quality Street. Feel like shit about it and my thighs are aching after yesterday's run. Had a coffee with almond milk and I'm back on the horse for healthy day two.

PaddingtonB · 31/12/2020 13:38

Back after a name change. I joined the thread before but haven’t yet started. Planning to get going tomorrow.

How was your first run? Did you use an app or something to get you started?
YourWurstNightmare · 31/12/2020 17:02

@Guardup Thanks! Adding the other ingredients to my next shop.

HenslowesDiary · 31/12/2020 17:51

Good day today.

Went for a run (C25K W1R2) & then a walk later in afternoon. Have managed 13k steps - my fitbit doesn't know what's hit it!

Am doing 16:8, although that might slip a bit this evening . Have a spatchcock chicken in the oven and will have with salad and a glass of champagne. We have some cheese & crackers as well but I am not going to prepare those so I can avoid snacking this evening. I don't usually like eating after about 8pm as I find it gives me acid reflux at night.

I think I will weigh in on a Friday.

sobsanta · 31/12/2020 19:29

@IHateCoronavirus it was hard but I did it. I'm using the official NHS Couch to 5k app.

EspressoExpresso · 31/12/2020 19:32

EspressoExpresso is there an option number 2 instead of swimming?

It'll be walking I guess. I have a dog and a camera, will have to go out for a bit when toddler is at nursery, otherwise it's dawdle pace!

ivyjoy · 31/12/2020 20:01

Can I join please? I've a good stone to lose starting tomorrow when the booze has gone Blush

Backtoblack1 · 31/12/2020 20:14

Just had a chinese and come to bed feeling fat and disgusting. Looking forward to an omelette in the morning and a healthy dinner. Hope it’s nice weather so I can take the dog on a long walk x

EspressoExpresso · 01/01/2021 05:21

Just hopped on the scales (😳) and ready to get going today. I've decided to stick with calorie counting after having tried the new WW program a few months ago and really not getting on with it. My husband is also back on the diet wagon and prefers to count calories so makes it easier if we're both following one method.

EmmanuelleMakro · 01/01/2021 05:42

This thread has inspired me to eat less -have been going into work the last couple of days (not breaking rules - empty building -I am a teacher so no-be else in and I can walk there) to avoid being near the fridge and it is working. When so feel hungry am drinking V8 veg juice with Tabasco which seems to be working in quelling hunger pangs. Will not weigh myself till next Monday weigh in.

Aspiringmatriarch · 01/01/2021 07:09

Morning all and Happy New Year! My goals for today are: eat mindfully, drink more water, and go for a walk even if it's just a short one. I'm feeling anxious about failing at a diet again, so I'm trying to start off gently and focus on small positive changes and a better mindset.

Sounds like a sensible goal. What is eating mindfully? I’ve heard someone say that before but not sure what it means.

I’m hoping to increase walking too. Trying to get out early as I had been going after the kids bedtimes but kept feeling too tired!

AIMD · 01/01/2021 07:38

I’m trying to do cold water therapy (started yesterday) by having long showers and possibly moving to having a dunk bath in the garden. Mainly for mental health but I have heard lots of other positive from it including helping with weight loss and after exercise.

Just wondered if anyone else is doing, or has done, it before?

EmmanuelleMakro · 01/01/2021 08:26

Interesting! Did not know about the weight loss thing but can anecdotally vouch for the depression alleviating thing. I kayak in all weathers and regularly fall in -not dangerous just inconvenient- and there’s was a period when I was clinically depressed and found that jumping in the water fur a brief period after kayaking gave me massive boost in my mental state.

Barksmum12 · 01/01/2021 09:01

Can I join? Starting Monday.
I don’t really recognise myself, I’m not really sure what happened.
