Diet pills

I have always struggled with my weight but put it down to secret eating/too big portions etc.

Since lockdown, I have gone from eating 3 meals a day to 1.
I did extreme keto for a couple of months but didn't lose any weight and got really bad headaches so now I do low carb. I wasn't losing weight so I now have high carb/cheat days which seems to actually help! And since April I have lost about 3lbs in total.

For the amount I eat and the fact I am on my feet all day I would hope/want to be losing a lot more than this!

So I was wondering if anyone takes any diet pills to help with weight loss?
I am worried about side effects so I haven't trusted the reviews online incase they are fake.

What diet pills are you talking about op?

For me, no I never would, but I think you need to be clear what you’re talking about,

I don’t know how you didn’t loose weight on keto, unless you were still eating a huge amount. Headaches would be due to lack of salt and dehydration normally.

BIWI · 29/11/2020 16:15

If you've only lost 3lbs since April then clearly those cheat days aren't helping!

Are you doing low carb seriously/properly? Because if you are, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work for you.

Diet pills really aren't the answer. You have to sort your actual diet out first.

FatGirlShrinking · 29/11/2020 16:20

What is your height, weight and level of activity?

How many calories a day are you currently eating on your diet plan?

FatGirlShrinking · 29/11/2020 16:21

Oh and what is your age?

Have you been tested for any metabolic or hormonal issues?

Dietpill · 29/11/2020 16:37

Thank you for your replies.

I am 30, 5'7" and 14.5st.
I am on my feet most of the day but just slow walking nothing really strenuous. I also do a 30min walk when I get home and every other day I will do a workout with weights.
I was exercising a lot every day since lockdown started but since I have been back at work I will admit I have been doing less.

I eat on average 1000kcals a day (it ranges from 500 - 1200).

I don't know of any diet pills in particular but the ones I have seen seem to be for suppressing your appetite which I'm not sure would do any good for me?
I was hoping people had taken some and had advice on which ones do/don't work or side effects they might have. I know there are some dodgy ones so want to be careful!

I did a home test for a thyroid check and it came back normal.

If your doing all that and not losing weight you need to seriously go to the GP, no one can be active all day eat less than 1000 calls a day and not lose weight unless your medically ill.

Nhsisfucked · 29/11/2020 17:00

And the vast majority of diet pills are either really high caffeine or make you shit out a third of the fat you eat, but beware if you eat any fat you only have to fart and it’ll seep out!! It’s gross!

NaturalStudy · 29/11/2020 17:03

Agree with PPs. Diet pills are at best a con and at worst seriously damaging for your health. I don't think its possible to be eating 1000kcal a day, and exercising, and not lose weight. Can you join WW or slimming World or similar for help?

DorotheaDiamond · 29/11/2020 17:05

You can get various ones that do work - try WeightMedics (I’ve used them)...you see a proper doctor and they are covered by the right quality people (I think it’s the CQC but can’t remember). They also do Saxenda which I used off license a few years ago - that really works but is pricy.

These are generally appetite suppressant which definitely help if you then combine with something like 16/8

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 17:07

Are you actually weighting stuff and counting or are you guesstimating the calories? It's very easy to miss quite a lot of calories if you are not 100% checking.

I agree with pps. If you are active most day and exercise and really eat between 500-1000 calories, you need to absolutely check with the gp. Especially before you start taking anything.

Bluntness100 · 29/11/2020 17:10

Ok something is up here op

Either you’re underestimating your calories quite significantly or your cheat days are so big that they undo the work you’ve done.

If you were genuinely eating on average a thousand calories a day averaged over a week you’d be significantly loosing weight.

Can you give honestly what you eat in a day? Including drinks, and also your cheat days?

Janaih · 29/11/2020 17:12

Are you drinking alcohol?
Somewhere you are consuming extra calories, you need to be honest and find out where.
Or book some blood tests.

FatGirlShrinking · 29/11/2020 17:16

So according to a TDEE calculator your maintenance calories would be around 2200 calories, anything below that should result in weight loss.

Obviously it's not an exact science but if you're really eating only 1000 calories a day consistently you should be seeding around a 2lb a week loss (500 deficit per day = 1lb loss a week).

SimplyRadishing · 29/11/2020 17:19

If you are following that correctly and not losing you honestly need to see the gp.

At 30 and 5"7 you should def lose weight.

Are you counting drinking calories???

Bluntness100 · 29/11/2020 17:19

Yes, which indicates over the course of a week the op averages about two thousand calories a day to maintain at her current weight..

So something is missing here.

It’s either the cheat days bringing the daily average up or she’s significantly under estimating what she consumes, be it through portion size, not counting drinks not counting snacks, whatever.

But it is highly unlikely op you’re consuming a thousand calories a day averaged over a week, consistently every week.

Cavagirl · 29/11/2020 17:23

How much have you lost since the start of lockdown, when you started this current regime?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 17:25

Lots of people accidentally underestimate things like oil used when cooking. 100 ml is 800+ calories. It's very easy to splash on a pan and wrongly guesstimate it's 10 ml while it's actually 20 so you count 80, but it's 160. I have measuring spoons because my guesses were extremely badBlush

It's the little things which are usually big things. And it can be really frustrating.

Bluntness100 · 29/11/2020 17:26

She says three pounds since April.
Dietpill · 29/11/2020 17:33

I have lost 3lbs.
I was dieting and exercising before this but I really tracked everything from then and stared keto then.

make you shit out a third of the fat you eat, but beware if you eat any fat you only have to fart and it’ll seep out!

I really don't want this to happen!! Haha

Can you give honestly what you eat in a day? Including drinks, and also your cheat days?

I have a coffee in the morning and one after work. For dinner, I will have various food such as soup, jacket potato, spag bol etc but I try to do low carb so aim to eat just meat and veg like salad with chicken pieces or cooked veg with a chicken breast. I will also drink squash drinks. I don't drink alcohol.

On my cheat days, I tend to have a pizza or fried egg sandwich and then a chocolate bar/cookie. I would say I have approx. 2000kcals which isn't great and I could be underestimating it but I have found that I had no weight loss until someone suggested having a cheat day and now I have had 3lbs loss.

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 17:40

The thing is that cooked veg and chicken breast can be anywhere from 300 cal to 1800...
You need to really look at what you put into it. What do you cook it in/with.

And btw I am all for "free" days (don't like the term cheat). I do it too. Kimd if huddle calories from other days in the week into it so I can have a pizza or something.
Your problem will not be that but the other 6 days in my opinion.

Bluntness100 · 29/11/2020 17:41

Op, you can’t “try’ to do low carb, you either do or you don’t, and you don’t if you’re eating spag Bol and jacket potatoes.

You need to be proper low carb, for about three to four days, before you flip into ketosis and for the first two weeks you need to be strict till you know what you’re doing and your body adjusts.

I think from what you’re posting it must be your portion sizes.or you snack and aren’t counting it. One things for sure though, you’re not doing low carb, I’m sorry. If you want to have a look at biwis boot camp, she has a spread sheet that explains how to do it.

Bottom line is your calories are likely double what you think they are.

FatGirlShrinking · 29/11/2020 17:43

Ok spaghetti Bolognese at the low end if you're not having a large portion will be 500cals

If you get a 500g pack of mince and use a jar sauce then split that into 4 portions that's 433 calories without the pasta.

A medium sized potato is around 220 calories (200g) that's before you add fillings.

I really recommend using MyFitnessPal and scales to log your food for a week or two to get a better idea of your intake.

I thought the same a few months ago that I wasn't eating that much and it was impossible to lose weight. I started tracking, cut to 1500 calories a day and I've lost 3 stone since August.

Janaih · 29/11/2020 17:44

Cheat days are for elite athletes only imo. The concept of treats and cheat meals is what keeps slimming clubs in business.
Up your daily calories so you dont need to cheat and start doing cardio such as hiit workouts. I'll be amazed if you dont start losing weight.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/11/2020 17:44

There is no shame in not being able to low carb😁
I couldn't.

If it doesn't work for you, try something else.

Bluntness100 · 29/11/2020 17:47

On low carb yes, I agree, you do it to boost your carb store so you have the energy to work out hard and deplete it in that session.

But the op isn’t doing low carb. So it’s fairly irrelevant.
