Diet pills

I have always struggled with my weight but put it down to secret eating/too big portions etc.

Since lockdown, I have gone from eating 3 meals a day to 1.
I did extreme keto for a couple of months but didn't lose any weight and got really bad headaches so now I do low carb. I wasn't losing weight so I now have high carb/cheat days which seems to actually help! And since April I have lost about 3lbs in total.

For the amount I eat and the fact I am on my feet all day I would hope/want to be losing a lot more than this!

So I was wondering if anyone takes any diet pills to help with weight loss?
I am worried about side effects so I haven't trusted the reviews online incase they are fake.

If you don't have time to eat in the morning, and you want fast results from a diet, then I'd suggest the Fast800 diet. They have their own range of meal replacement shakes, which are specifically designed to have all the right nutrients in them, they're high in protein and fat and low in carbs.

The main plan is 8 or 12 weeks long (sorry, can't remember which), and you only eat 800 calories a day. It's a diet based on research conducted by the University of Newcastle in particular, which was originally with the purpose of helping type 2 diabetics reverse their diabetes. It's therefore based on science, and isn't a quack or fad diet. But it does yield quick results.

Get hold of the book, and the recipe book that goes with it - both written by Dr Michael Mosley. The recipes are really good, and very easy.

After you complete the 8/12 weeks, you then move on to a Mediterranean diet which is low-ish carb.

here's their website

You’re significantly under estimating your calories

I always over-estimate my calories. Today I had 2x coffee with milk and sugar and a cheese sandwich at work. I put this in as 1000kcals but it is probably more like 500-800kcals.

I started at 233lb in August, currently 190lb with another 28lb to go to hit healthy BMI. So 3 stone in 4 months. It hasn't always been linear, I've had big drops one week then a gain the next.

How many calories do you eat per day?

Did you track your carbs?

Yes I use carb manager and myfitnesspal. I did keto for 4 months and used dietdoctor.com recipes which have all the carbs and calories worked out for you which I found easier.

Who are all these people who are advising you? Because you're being given contradictory (and probably not very helpful) advice!

Every diet in the world is contradicting depending on what they're selling!
SW = high carbs meals to keep you feeling full - lots of people lose weight.
Keto = low carb, high fat - lots of people lose weight.
Lots of other diets promote low fat diets.
There is a chef called the honest chef or something and he says calories count more than anything so 1000kcals of spinach is the same as 1000kcals of pizza.

If you don't have time to eat in the morning, and you want fast results from a diet, then I'd suggest the Fast800 diet

Thank you I will look this up. It's not even that I want fast results I just want them a bit faster than I am getting them! lol

Just stop with the calories. There is no point doing it if you are not actually doing it.

Concentrate on 1 properly.

OP you need to do things accurately - not over or under estimate things, otherwise you won't have a clue what is or isn't working.

Especially if you've been having the calories / carb etc numbers you think you have and only lost 3 pounds in months then you need accurate reporting to investigate that further as it shouldn't be possible.

It's so important to be accurate and transparent - you need to invest in some decent kitchen scales and really weigh out every ingredient.

I would personally recommend what I think @Bluntness100 said and do some readymade / pre prepped meals for a few weeks at least so there can be no question in your mind what calories and fat / protein / carb etc you're having.

I agree with others that some of the advice you've had from professionals is highly questionable - things like 'eat less cake' are indicative of a piss poor clinician!

As I say if you've been having around the calories you think you have and only lost the three pounds then there would be something medically very wrong so you need to either reassess how you're measuring / counting things or really push for some investigation on why it hasn't helped you lose weight.

Fast800 isn’t fast as in quick fix, it’s as in incorporating intermittent fasting isn’t it? Which would be perfect do you OP if you skip meals anyway.

Dietpill · 30/11/2020 20:54

What do you mean? I do lower-calorie every day that is the one I am doing.

Oh sorry! I thought it meant quick! haha.
I do skip meals but I have a coffee as soon as I wake up which I don't think you're allowed to do if you are fasting but I would really struggle with that!

OP posts:
BIWI · 30/11/2020 20:56

You can have black coffee.

And, actually, it is both fast as in speedy, and fast as in fasting! Because of the low level of calories you will lose a lot of weight in a relatively short period of time. (But only if you stick to it and do it properly!)

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/11/2020 20:57

You are not. You are not weighting, counting and so on. You guesstimate. There is no point in talking about calories when you only guesstimate.

Dietpill · 30/11/2020 20:58

OP you need to do things accurately - not over or under estimate things, otherwise you won't have a clue what is or isn't working.

Yes this is true.
I always round up to the nearest 10 or 100 just in case myfitnesspal isn't accurate or something. My limit on there to 'lose 1-2lbs per week' is 1200kcals so if I eat less than this then I know I am definitely not going over those 1200kcals - if that makes sense.

I add my food to myfitnesspal and carbmanager and I look on the back of packets to see how many calories each thing contain and I can work it out from there.
Some things like today wasn't made by myself so I added it to myfitnesspal which said it is arround 300kcals so that plus my drinks should come under 1000kcals so I round it up so I know for definite I'm not eating more than that.

I am not worried if I go under I just count it so I don't go over.

Between 1200 and 1500. My goal is to be at or under 1530 a day.p that's what MFP sets for me.

I'm 5ft 8 and work an office job but at home, so very sedentary unless I make the effort to deliberately do exercise.

I don't tend to eat back my exercise calories and I don't have regular 'cheat' days. I build treats into my calorie allowance, so if I know I've got a birthday coming up and we're going to have a takeaway then I'll make sure I don't go over on any other days that week and stay maybe 100 under goal for 4 or 5 days that week to give myself a bit of wiggle room.

Sometimes I feel like eating lots of snack foods or today I wanted onion rings with my dinner, You can basically eat anything as long as it fits into your allowance. Today for me hasn't been full of good healthy food because I mainly wanted caffeine but you can see the kind of stuff I'm having.

I used to go to a private clinic, they run clinics all over the uk. They pills I got really did work but as soon as you stop taking them, it’s back to square one. Plus they put the prices up so it’s rather expensive. I think they use phentermine and diethpropion sorry about spelling

But that means you think you're having even less than 1200 calories a day. If you had been doing so for a month or more then you would not have only lost 3 pounds so something is not being recorded correctly or there is a medical issue. I don't think a medical issue could account for that discrepancy though.

That's why I would personally be looking at doing pre prepared meals (ready meal or meal deliveries) so you can be 100% sure what your calorie / fat / protein / carb etc intake is and can then go to your doctor with this information if you still haven't lost weight.

Dietpill · 30/11/2020 21:15

Yes that is a good idea I will try the 800kcals and try and go close to them and see. The only trouble is it doesn't let you save your food diary if it is under 1000kcals but I could maybe write them in an actual diary instead.

OP posts:
Dietpill · 30/11/2020 21:16

I also don't think I have a medical condition either I just haven't found what works for me yet.

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/11/2020 21:19

Mfp still saves it, it just doesn't let you "complete the diary" i never click it. As far as i know it's only to show you a possible weight loss projection for 5 weeks.

FatGirlShrinking · 30/11/2020 21:19

Just calories, I tried looking at the macros but it all got too complicated. Just track everything I eat and drink except water. I have MFP installed on my phone and iPad and as a favourite on my laptop so I can always log immediately no matter where I am.

I have an Apple Watch which tracks my steps and any workouts and sends those numbers to MFP. It also buzzes at me and tells me off when I don't move often enough 😆

Oh ok I wasn't sure if I took it to a dietician if I could look back if I don't save it.

Are you on any other medications?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/11/2020 22:00

You shouldn't take it to a dietitian anyway since it isn't accurate. If you plan on doing that, make sure you log properly

Dietpill · 30/11/2020 22:07

No I am not.

Yes I definitely will do but I would assume they usually ask that you keep a food diary as they would want to first see an idea of the types of food I eat and how much in case there is a simpler answer. As I have watched programmes before where they seriously under-estimate how much they are eating.

MawkishHawk · 30/11/2020 22:11

I use cronometer instead of MFP, it links up to Fitbit and other diet/health tracking apps
