Evening all!

Welcome to the lose 7lbs per month thread for spooky October! My second favourite time of the year! Big coats, snuggly scarves, pumpkins, ghosties and toffee apples!

Link to previous thread is here The September 7lb per month challenge! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/4013012-the-september-7lb-per-month-challenge

I only lost 3lbs last month (booooooo) but have really upped the exercise in the last couple of days so hopeful I will start seeing proper losses again.

All are welcome, whatever programme or diet you are following. We just stick together and raise each other up which has worked so far and I've seen some amazing results from you lovely regulars :)

See you in the morning ready for first weigh in!!

Blogilates is really good! Cassey is a amazing teacher. I just wanted to try something new! ( tho they are really hard!!)

Winningatseesaw · 22/10/2020 19:09

Had a maintain this week (expected) so am still at 2kgs lost for the month. Hoping to finish well next week!

DownUdderer · 22/10/2020 22:07

I'm down 5lb for the month so far, I'm happy with that. I'm out for a hike today. I need to clear my head!

Newbeginningsnow · 22/10/2020 22:41

Would love to join you all please!
I managed to lose a stone back in yonder days of early lockdown when the daily walk was the highlight of my day but totally lost my willpower and could well have put most of that back on.

Have been off for two weeks and eaten out or had takeaway at least once every day I dread to think how much I weigh but I’ll weigh myself on Monday and go from there. I’ll be between 10 and a half and 11 stone and I’d like to get to 9 then see how I feel.

Planning to basically just do lowish calories plus a daily workout. It worked before. I did join an online programme thing a few weeks back but wasn’t in the right frame of mind. They’re more about macros but I’m just not sure I’m there yet tbh.

Well done everyone on their losses so far. Absolutely amazing!

DownUdderer · 23/10/2020 04:21

@Newbeginningsnow welcome, you might be able to lose a pound or two before November arrives, that'll be great!

I've had a long hike today, I did 11km. My legs are tired now! It was pretty steep in places. Really got my heart pumping!

TheGhostofGlumy · 23/10/2020 07:34

Hi everyone,
76.0kg this morning, so I've managed to reverse the back slide at least and get back to where I was a couple of weeks ago. I've started planning in lower calorie meals from next week, so hopefully I can make it down into the 75's.

cricketmum84 · 23/10/2020 08:40

Friday at last! Looking forward to half term and not having to do the school runs next week. Littlest is definitely ready for a break :)

Weigh in tomorrow and I'm feeling nervous! I'm going to weigh on the digital and analogue and see what the difference is. I'm still not sure my digital scales are quieter right as I can weigh 3 times in a row and get 3 totally different weights?? Hope I don't need new ones.

Welcome @Newbeginningsnow :)

Plan for today is:
Fasting until 1pm then a toasted wholemeal pitta with sliced avocado and some cherry tomatoes (I get them in my local veg delivery and could eat them like sweets!), treat later of a proper toffee apple! Haven't decided on dinner yet as we are taking youngest DD over to my mums as they are going away for a few days with her so we won't be home until after 6. Might make a meat and a new potato curry that I can just reheat quickly when we get back.

Have a lovely Friday everyone!

I am down 1lb this week to 11st 7lb, 4lb overall gone this month. Going very slowly but surely. Welcome to all the new losers - best of luck. Downudderer, your hike sounds lovely - might take up your idea when travel restrictions ease again. Cricketmum, I have two sets of scales that can vary by as much as 2lb as well which is frustrating. I always stick with the digital one though, even if its higher. I wonder if yours are Salter scales also as seems to be a common problem on these boards trying to get a decent reading off them.

Newbeginningsnow · 23/10/2020 13:28

Thanks for the welcome. Managed to read through the whole thread this morning and am awestruck at some of the losses. You should all be so proud of yourselves.

I’d love to lose 1 or 2 before November, definitely. Am sitting doing my Asda online shop for delivery on Sunday ready to have a good week. I’m going to try and do some sort of daily exercise too whether it’s a run or a Youtube HIIT video. Our pool is open evenings and weekends now too so might even try and go for a few lengths midweek next week. I think varying the exercise will help to stop me getting bored and giving it up.

I need to accept I’ll be doing this slowly. It took me 8 weeks of eating 1200 per day and doing a good few hundred calories worth of exercise per day to lose a stone so I’m in this for at least a few months.

Howmanysleepsnow · 24/10/2020 06:41

Can I do my end of month check in early as I’ve no scales for the next week?
SW 12st 6
Start of October 9st 13lb
GW 9st 7lb
Weight today 9st 6lb
Loss 7lb
Total loss 3 stone
Goal for next month: stay the same.

MsMiaWallace · 24/10/2020 08:48

I've lost nothing this week :(
It's like my scales are stuck.
I've exercised well & eaten like a saint all week.
I'm down on calories everyday.
Im gutted as I really want chocolate.
I look slimmer & more toned in the mirror & my clothes are fitting better so don't understand the scales not moving.

Newbeginningsnow · 24/10/2020 08:54

Well done on 7lbs @Howmanysleepsnow! Amazing!

@MsMiaWallace are you still eating the same calories you were at your starting weight? Do you maybe need to recalculate your TDEE now you’re lighter? Frustrating for you!

FatGirlShrinking · 24/10/2020 09:23

Good morning all, for the first time in my adult life the scales showed under 200lb today! 199lb.

I was an overweight child and 16st by age 16 so I weigh less now that I did as a teenager!

NerrSnerr · 24/10/2020 09:34

Hi all. I'm still here. Have lost the weight I put on last week and am back in the 10s. Just need to stay focussed for this last week to get a bit more off in October. I have had a good exercise week again and should next week too. Slowly feel like I'm getting there again.

I'll catch up on the thread later.

cricketmum84 · 24/10/2020 09:36

No loss for me today but that's fine as I cheated with a takeaway last night so probably have a little water retention from too much salt.

@FatGirlShrinking fantastic milestone! I'm so happy for you!

@Howmanysleepsnow excellent result for the month!

Off topic but does anyone have any wise words for speaking to an 11 year old very gently about eating a bit healthier, she's taken to too many snacks during lockdown which has continued into going back to school. 4 meals a day plus crisps and chocolate and ended up having to buy plus fit school trousers. I need to address it but really don't want to upset her!

FatGirlShrinking · 24/10/2020 09:54

@cricketmum84 could you use some of the change4life resources to talk about healthy food and exercise in general, then suggest that you try to do some of the things you've learned.

We have a 6yo who would happily eat non stop so have a snack box on the dining room table, every morning we put a few bits in there that are healthy, fruit, veg, popcorn, rice cakes, all stuff she likes but better choices than choc, sweets and crisps. She can help herself to the snack box so is able to have control that way.

Onesmallstep67 · 24/10/2020 10:10

@cricketmum84, I know it's a natural instinct to be concerned about our DC's weight, particularly when we are very conscience of our own (weight). Firstly I imagine that she is in the pre pubescent stage where a little weight gain is common. Often children gain weight then have a growth spurt. Seen it countless times with secondary age students. At home maybe decrease the amount of chocolate and crisps that are around. I have been encouraging my 15 yr old DD to come on walks with me, saying that I need the company. I have been overweight my whole life and at times it has felt like a ( literal ) burden, making me feel not good enough. I have always tried to give my DDs as much positive enforcement that we come in all shapes and sizes and are perfect in our own way. Any diet talk that happens here is always that if we are trying to lose weight we are doing it for health reasons and because WE want to, not because society tells us we should.

MsMiaWallace · 24/10/2020 11:02

I'm eating way under my TDEE.
I'm wondering if I need to eat more?
I know with training I'm probably gaining muscle & could be water retention too.

It's really disheartening with not a single budge on that number though.

JessJonesJumps · 24/10/2020 14:19

I'm just checking in so I don't lose you all but think this month is going to turn into an aim to maintain rather than any losses for me. DM was home for a week and then re-admitted to hospital. It's all very stressful but also oddly exhausting. I've never felt so weary. Thanks for all your kind wishes. They made me quite teary Flowers

I'm going to dig out some old photos from Jan to motivate me not to fall off the wagon too much and to remind me of how much I've already achieved.

Sending you all happy Saturday vibes Smile

GetTheStartyParted · 24/10/2020 14:49

Hi everyone, glad to see most of you are doing well.

@cricketmum84 my DS gained weight over lockdown, especially with not being able to do sports. I spoke as 'us' and 'we'. So "Now we are getting back to normal routine we need to watch our eating habits/do more walking/reduce snacks/make better food choices", and so on. A family effort, not just telling him that he needed to.

I've taken a step back from dieting over the last week or so. Stopped keto and started a kind of low carb diet. I'm hoping to still maintain or lose, but without feeling so wrapped up in my eating habits. It was becoming a bit much for me. I will probably restart keto in January, after a bit of a break. I might pop in to the thread now and again but need a bit of down time.

I started Jan 27th at 15st5 and today I weigh 11st exactly, so only another 19lb to be in the healthy range. I will get there.

Good luck everyone.

NerrSnerr · 24/10/2020 16:40

I hope things improve soon @JessJonesJumps. It's so hard when there's so much going on in your life.

Both children had terrible sleep last night and I am so tired but going to force myself to go swimming in a bit. I'm hoping they sleep better tonight. I have yoga tomorrow, it's a Yin class which is restorative- perfect for a Sunday evening. I bought myself a bolster for the class so need to commit!

JessJonesJumps · 24/10/2020 16:44

Thanks, @NerrSnerr

That's interesting you bought a yoga bolster. I bought yoga blocks a few weeks ago and I do find they help with certain poses. Let me know how you get on with the bolster Smile

Winningatseesaw · 25/10/2020 02:11

Everyone has done amazingly well!

I think it's recommended to drink 2 litres of water per day. Does everyone do that? I've been trying hard to do that in the last few weeks. Do you think it makes a difference to weight loss?

DownUdderer · 25/10/2020 04:40

@JessJonesJumps I'd be wrung out and stressed in your shoes. Find some satisfying soups from the supermarket and try and enjoy them, a healthy yet comforting and easy sort of thing. Just out one foot in front of the other.

Cricketmum my kids love to dance at home in a disco that they make for themselves, any sort of healthy movement that's enjoyable will help kids burn calories! Also finding enjoyable exercise that you don't realize is exercise is the key to everything really!

DownUdderer · 25/10/2020 04:43

@Winningatseesaw I try my best every day to drink loads of water. I really believe it helps everything, digestion, skin and it keeps hunger pangs at bay. I think it's pretty vital for weightloss.

@NerrSnerr kids who don't sleep!! Why!!! I feel your pain!!

@GetTheStartyParted you've done an amazing weightloss job, maintaining for a couple of months will be good practice for the long run. If you come back to weightloss, great, if you just maintain, also great!
