Thanks @MonsteraCheeseplant I think I find non-work days easier as I can be more focused at home, I tend to be able to fast until lunch whereas at work I'm starving by 9am because I usually start really early.

I'm definitely panicking at how easily & quickly I've gone from being disciplined to just thinking 'sod it'. It's a slippery slope for me as I know once I've given in I'll really go for it - I'm naturally quite greedy Grin

I might try upping my cals to 1500 as perhaps that'll be more sustainable and hopefully keep me away from the biscuit tin!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/06/2020 21:35

Hangover I have. I lost about 3 stone in 2009, then gained it all back again and a few more stone as well. There was a lot of very difficult stuff going on in my life and food was the comfort I needed.

This time I have gone up and down a little bit but I'm still much smaller than I was. I know what the problem was and I know how to deal with it.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 13/06/2020 21:40

Great idea. Channeling guru Jordan Syatt here - you can't fuck this up. Even if you eat over your calories today, tomorrow, for a week, whatever. You can get back on it no big deal.

Having said that, I feel your concern after my big fancy meal last night (that I may have supplemented a little with extra treats) and then the BBQ today. I've had the fear the whole time i've been dieting that because i wasn't suffering that I wasn't losing weight. I have the same fear that unless i'm hungry, i must be at risk of putting weight back on. (Not that i'm making myself hungry at all, i'm not, i'm sticking to at least 1200 cals a day.)

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket your meals today so lovely.

I guess off track days need to happen and it's about not letting it become the new normal (definitely what I've been guilty of in the past!)

@HoneysuckIejasmine sounds like you've got a really good healthy attitude to your weight loss.

I wont panic! Will aim to maintain this week Smile

SuperPixie247 · 13/06/2020 22:41

Evening all

We had lovely weather today in Yorks, hopefully you all did too! It makes going out and exercise so much more pleasant Smile

TheHoneyBadger · 14/06/2020 09:47

Hangover. Yes I’ve lost weight and put it on again. Usually gradually.

Do you weigh every day? I know some are against it but being in that habit perhaps avoids being able to ignore the weight coming back?

If I was calorie counting I think what I’d do is work out the maintenance calories of my ideal weight and eat those from the start so that you effectively weren’t on a diet but you’re new permanent amount of calories itms?

Just keep talking! I had that look see here we go feeling when I was a bit off the wagon struggling with pms and the scales were rocketing.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/06/2020 10:00

So allegedly at my height and age if I was 10stone my bmr (re laying in bed all day) would be 1368cals. So I’d eat that till I got to 10st.

In reality you’re not lying in bed all day so I guess at goal weight you could add 100cals a day for a week or so and see what happens and so forth until you find the right level of calories for your activity level to maintain.

The trouble is I find calorie counting soul destroying and ime it makes me hungrier. I’m ill disciplined and self destructive when I feel deprived Hmm

A magic wand would be nice

RaraRachael · 14/06/2020 11:22

Utterly despondent. Did my weekly weigh-in this morning and I've put on another 3 pounds. This is despite daily core exercises, walking and being very careful about what I eat.
I am now 11 stone 9 which I don't think I even was when I was pregnant. I am putting on around 2/3 pounds per week. The weird thing is, I can see I've lost flab around my hips, my belly is firming up and getting flatter and my size 12 clothes still fit me.

Confused and fed up Sad

Octopus37 · 14/06/2020 12:34

Have just made a good lowish calorie food discovery, Lidl Deluxe Mixed Grain salad, only 297 calories for the whole pot. 9st 2 this morning. Hope everyone has a good day.

EndlessUserName · 14/06/2020 12:47

Well done @octopus!

Sorry to hear lots of us are struggling. I've had a few planned days "off". Will weigh in tomorrow and see where I'm at. AF has started today so my days off have coincided with major cravings, so I think my body just needed a break from dieting. Will expect to see a pound or two up tomorrow. Have kept up rigorous exercise so hopefully won't be too bad.

I'm thinking of taking a regular week off the week before AF due, if I want to. I don't see the point in struggling so much, it makes me hate being on a diet. So I think a few planned days off when I most need them would be good for me. I also am aware that this is the point in the month when I would go really overboard with calories and sweet stuff, so a maintenance week/week off is important so that I can learn how to maintain my weight long term

Hope you're all having a nice weekend

Muscle is more dense than fat. 1lb of muscles occupies much less space than fat. If you are firming up your core building muscle, you are replacing 1lb of fat for 2lb of muscle. You'll get smaller but your weight won't change. Initially I would recommend you take you measurements as well as monitor your weight.
HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/06/2020 13:39

Sorry, for 1lb of muscle not 2lb. Clumsy fingers.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/06/2020 13:41

B bacon and sausage sandwich again
L salad and a cup a soup.
D homemade pizza and salad.

We made gingerbread biscuits yesterday. Tiny little bite size ones. Slip a bit too easily in the mouth...

TheHoneyBadger · 14/06/2020 14:55

rararachael the usual recommendation I've seen is to use a tape measure (or a ribbon if you can't bear to see the numbers - just tie a knot where you measured to and then see if you're smaller than the last knot itms) as another point of reference. Scales aren't the whole picture.

I did brave measuring my waist the other week. I'm so big that losing half a stone made no real visual difference. Wondering whether I dare measure my waist again Hmm

MonsteraCheeseplant · 14/06/2020 16:05

DH and I walked for 4 hours this morning then when we came back I had a bitterly disappointing lunch. Now of course I want to dive into treats for the rest of the day. I will have something because I think I've more than earned it but is there much worse than a rubbish meal when you've looked forward to it so much? It feels like such a waste of calories!

OP posts:
EndlessUserName · 14/06/2020 19:42

Hahaha I get you @MonsteraCheeseplant hate wasting calories! Grin

I always measure myself every week. Waist size is a good indication of health according the NHS, my waist was over the 80cm cut off, now it's not which I'm so pleased about. Also there were about two months where I went a bit AWOL and my waist size didn't increase despite putting on a few pounds, so that was nice :) I also like noticing other changes, like clothes fitting better, or being able to do new things in exercise like touch my toes, run faster etc. The more data you have, the more you'll see that you're making progress somewhere :)

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 14/06/2020 21:17

@RaraRachael if you've not grown out of your clothes it could be that your scales don't work? I did 5:2 with no results for a few weeks, got pissed off and gave up. Later found the scales were not working.
You are more than a number on the scales!

Today was mixed for me. We've driven a few hours to visit my MIL. Had picnic and BBQ which was damage limitation mode for me. I reckon I'm at about 1600 calories and I've done 9000 steps. Need 2 very good days before I weigh on Wednesday.
So nice to see MIL though ❤️ her and it was really good for the kids too

Hangoverstruggles · 14/06/2020 21:59

Oh @RaraRachael I'm so sorry. So disheartening for you. Measuring is a really good idea. Do you have any different scales you could try / borrow for a couple of weeks?

Yes Honey a magic wand!! I would love to not have to think about food so much. Your suggestion of eating maintenance cals for ideal weight makes perfect sense! It's a similar idea to what Jordan Syatt uses (finally got around to looking him up @Monstera)

Breakfast & lunch were good for me but had an impromptu drink in garden with neighbour friends which turned into pizza & an ice cream not to mention the crisps 🙈

I'm definitely off the wagon and scared to get on the scales! Planned a good food day tomorrow and hoping I can still keep moving forward if I keep on track until Friday!

Octopus37 · 15/06/2020 07:27

Had a so so day yesterday. Cereal bar for breakfast, grain salad for lunch. Unfortunately in the afternoon I ate 2 chocolates and some chocolate cake, had some friends round for a socially distanced garden visit. Made a prawn thing for dinner and ate with some packet rice (small portion). For me thought I had had quite a good day, but was 9st3.75 this morning. My stomach feels like a lead weight though so could be a temporary thing.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 15/06/2020 07:48

I'm up 1 lb since Friday which i'm hoping is water and will re-adjust soon.

I also measure myself every week as have found it really helps me to ignore the fluid retention blips - after my long run on a Sunday I am often up to 4lbs heavier the next day!

AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter · 15/06/2020 08:31

Hi everyone,

Can I join please?

I really need motivation. I lost approx 6kg from September- March this year and I found it so easy. Since lockdown I've really struggled to control what I'm eating. I'm snacking so much and not doing 16:8/18:6 like I used to. I've weighed myself this morning to shock myself into being good but getting back into it is going to be so difficult whilst working from home. First stop is to do a meal plan and do a big shop!

Starting weight (Sept 2019)- 70kg
Current weight- 67.7kg
Aim- 60kg

EndlessUserName · 15/06/2020 10:27

Hello everyone!

Welcome @AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter

@Octopus37 surely just a weight fluctuation, hope you are settling in well to your new house

Pleased this morning. Managed to maintain my weight, despite AF coming yesterday and all DP celebrations which lasted about 4 days - including about 2 slices of cake a day plus 2 takeaways! Usually this would be weight gain for me, but I was super strict st the start of the week and have kept up my exercise so I'm sure that's what's helped :) I enjoyed my few days off and feel more motivated to get back to it today!

B - 20g cornflakes, banana
L - toast, mackerel, poached egg
D - homemade curry with lots of veg, 100g rice
S - maybe some natural yogurt and pureed mango (as it needs using up!!)

Hope you all have a great week

TheHoundsofLove · 15/06/2020 11:15

Welcome AndThey - it's so hard when your routine changes and something that worked for you before doesn't any longer. Sometimes I think it's just a case of treading water for a while until your mind/body catches up again.
I've not felt up to managing 5:2 over the past couple of months - it's just not fitted into my week very well. But, I know it works far better for me than calorie counting so it's been really frustrating. Well, I suddenly feel up to tackling it again and am kicking off the week with a fast day today. I'm planning to have a cheese, chive and mushroom omelette for dinner later.
I hope that everyone else is having a good start to the week.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/06/2020 12:26

Posting just to stay with a toe on the wagon. Yes a large part of the crazy half stone upswing was pre af weirdness but I’m still 4lb above lowest weight which is 4 weeks+ worth of progress just gone. Determined not to be discouraged. Treading water and hoping to get my oompah back.
