6 stone + to lose ... Whos in?

I'm at my heaviest EVER! I've been battling my weight for 12 years and quite frankly I'm done with it now.

Poor DH is probably sick of the cycle of 'I'm fat , I hate myself, diet for 1 month, quit, repeat' . He confided that he was worried about me the other day health wise and just wants me to be happy and then my DD who's 6 made a couple of comments about my big belly (not being mean...just being a 6 year old). So this is has given me a big kick up the bum. My wedding and engagement rings also don't fit anymore Blush.

I'm an incredible emotional eater and suffer from anxiety and awful self esteem issues. It's a psychological battle each time I decide to 'diet'. I'm constantly trying to sabotage myself.

So...I've been calorie counting for the past week, doing one YouTube workout and going for an hour walk everyday (my distress also) , making sure I'm hitting at least 10000 steps. So far I'm feeling good.
I don't agree with super low calories but I've been aiming for and sticking to between 1500 - 1700 calories. My diet has been healthy and clean.

Anybody else up for using this thread as a support / check in / pick me up?

I've made the decision not to tell any friends and family about my journey this time because as soon as I do people start jumping on my bandwagon and start relying on me and whinging to me and it's something I know I can't deal with this time. This is why a thread like this would be perfect as we are complete strangers in the same boat.

My family have been serial dieters for 30 years Blush As soon as any of them catch wind I'm doing any kind of weight loss they want in too and Facebook chats get set up and I suddenly feel on display and pressured and when it goes wrong I get incredibly embarrassed and ashamed and the cycle begins again. Also, as I've been battling this for years I'm quite knowledgeable about stuff and I get asked questions and advice all day everyday and I end up getting overwhelmed.

So ...

Start weight : 14 stone 12.5
First Goal : 12 stone
Ultimate goal : 9 stone , maybe a bit under.
Height : 5ft 3.

Welcome @Sarahbeans
I think a lot of us are suffering from reduced exercise because of COVID. So you aren't alone, well done on making the changes so far!

I'm sure @Whymustyoubringinthebirds will be along soon as will invite anyone who wants to be in the spreadsheet. I feel like it's helping me already, knowing how many pounds I need to shift every time I look at it.

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been doing MFP since Weds and stayed on 1200cal for 3 days, with 1500cal on 1 day.

Struggling with carbs as we eat mostly plant based plus some fish & egg.

For lunch at work I would usually take a falafel or tuna salad with just a spoonful of leftover pasta or rice, but since lockdown I've been having bagels, toast, all the comfort carbs. I'm wfh full time but not preparing lunch in advance so I have whatever looks nice, which is definitely a habit to break!

Does anyone have a tricky meal or time of day? Mine is definitely the afternoon.

Ugh it feels like a long slog but we can do this! I lost two stone just before Christmas but had to stop my diet for health reasons and it piled back on.

@Milbo welcome ! You can do this. Try not to think of it as a 'diet' . I'm trying to think think of it as healthy eating and more exercise.

@MsJuniper Lunch is the struggle for me. I don't plan my lunches like my evening meals so sometimes I'm there trying to think of what to eat and I can be starving by that point. I've been doing ok this week though.

@Milbo I did SW and my starting weight was 18 st 9 Blush. I went on to lose almost 3 stone and when I wanted a break from it all I maintained my weight for well over 6 months, even though I was eating whatever I wanted. I did eventually (very slowly) start creeping up again but I was very happy with the results. It's so easy to follow and I did it on my own from home with no membership and no going to group.

I am back on the healthy eating and exercise now to try and lose a bit more.

Good early afternoon everyone
How are we all getting on. I keep waking at 6am which is just not on, now the children are older !!! Day 3 for me I downloaded MFP and have started logging. Normally I'd be in work and kept busy so this being at home can make the time drag.
Hope your all having fabulous days.

I'm in. I'm 5'8 and just weighed myself 17 stone... It's the heaviest I've ever been. About ten years ago I got to 15 then lost five and a half , at 9.5 my face and collarbone area were a bit gaunt and people started asking me if I was ill, I was a size eight. I settled at 10.5 which made me an easy size ten and I felt great. I would go to the gym at six before work ate well but didn't deprive myself, I was fit. I kept that going until I got married in Feb 2018, I then got a job where I travelled and therefore ate out, a lot and crept up to eleven but still a 10/12 and ok with it. Then I fell pregnant, a combination of gestational diabetes, SPD and still working away meant by the time I was due I was just over 15 stone. I promised myself I'd lose it BF would do park runs with the buggy etc, hah who was I kidding! I lost nearly a stone just giving birth, but DS is now 18 months and I'm 17 stone, unfit and frankly exhausted. Early morning gym sessions aren't realistic when DH and I both work FT and have DS and I know I can lose through diet, so I'm on board. My target is 11.5 as that puts me at about a size 12 and I can cope with that, but initially if I can lose 3 stone that's over half way there and will be motivating. I actually get chub rub now and feel embarrassed to go running as i know it'll be more like a puffed out waddle 😳

HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 24/05/2020 12:57

Oh we're both frontline keyworkers so working opposite shifts and looking after DS with no childcare, so free time there is move and the exhaustion makes me reach for sugar and carbs....

Welcome @HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight and @Gingermidget !

I also had gestational diabetes and SPD and it battered me but it gave me an initial shock to eat sensibly during pregnancy and I actually lost weight. I was 12 stone when my DD was born and now I'm 3 stone heavier .

Don't be self conscious about running. I put my headphones in and block everyone out. When I done my half marathon few years back I was still a couple of stone over weight and there were people running it much bigger and they were smashing it. Start off with couch to 5k .

@Gingermidget have you tried inputting what you're eating on my fitness pal to see how many calories you're eating ? The only way to lose weight is being in a calorie deficit. I'm sure with lots of support here you'll be on your way Smile.

Welcome to all of the new joiners!

I weighed myself today and I've lost 3lb. I'm happy because I was 'on track' all week but know it could have been more as i had treats galore yesterday. However, I needed it (can't eat healthy all of time) and I throughly enjoyed my burger, chocolate cake and fruity cider.

So that's:
W1: 6lb
W2: 3lb
and thanks to the spreadsheet 84lb to go!

I used to give up as soon as I "fell off the wagon" but I feel more motivated today. I'm going to do the "30 Day Shred" workout dvd now and then get ready for a low-fat, alcohol free BBQ.

Breakfast:
Lunch: low fat sausages, corn on the cob and salad
Dinner: Chicken Udon Noodles (a Joe Wicks recipe - easy on the noodles for me).

Would love to join too please, I could have written that OP word for word except I have 8 stone to lose Blush

I started off thus year really well, lost 1
20lb by the end of Feb then covid ruined my resolve!

I also like to weigh in lbs, am calorie counting and walking for 30 mins a day with a view to building it up little by little. I have an apple watch if anyone is tracking steps and wants to add me?

My goal is to lose 8lb per month which i think is realistic and sustainable, I have done so many faddy yoyo diets and i just get fatter eventually Sad

My start weight is 317, I started last Monday and am weighing fortnightly. My first goal is to get into the 200s.

@blubberball yes it is you're the first one to notice that too.

@melissasummerfield welcome ! 8lb is absolutely doable and it's a healthy way to lose weight. It's recommended to lose 2lb per week. Anything more is a bonus to me. You can do it! That's a good first goal too.

@YellowPenny well done ! That's great! I hope you enjoyed your 'treats'. I had a small glass of rose in the garden last night. It felt naughty but it was only 150 calories and I went to bed with 500 calories remaining.

I've done my 30 minute workout and about to go on my hour walk. Taking DD on her scooter today as she scoots ahead quite far and it makes me walk faster Grin.

Meal plan today

Breakfast : My normal boring porridge.
Lunch : squash , spinach and lentil hotpot (they're from Aldi, super tasty)
Dinner : Tikka curry.

Have a great day everyone !

I'm feeling incredibly discouraged at the moment.

16:10 at beginning of lockdown, have been 15:10 for the last couple of weeks.

Been keeping under my MFP calories (1280) which are well under my TDEE calories (2325). Last run of C25K today! Hope I make it, I'll be over the moon.

Hi everyone, good and bad news to report.

Good news: I weighed myself today, two days early, as my food shopping isn't being delivered until tonight and I have run put of my healthy food. Amazingly, I have lost 8 pounds on my first week. Shock I was shocked but it definitely is correct as I have been weighing almost daily.

Bad news: Now I am in a pickle because I just have unhealthy rubbish in the cupboards until tonight and worried I'm going to ruin it all with a day off (even if I get back on it tomorrow) Sad Any words of wisdom?

Morning all, please could I join? I'm 15st 4 weighed this morning and this is my heaviest I've been since my early 20's where I was 15st 1 and lost 4st with weight watchers.

In those 20 years (now early 40's) I've lost and gained the same 2stone, taking me from my "comfortable" 11st to a heavy 13st which I'd then lose by using MFP.

Since having my 2nd child, 4.5 years ago I've crept up to a whopping 15st 4 and just can't seem to diet. I'm a typical apple shape, my stomach is like a huge ballon and I'm a size 20. I look pregnant! Lost my beautiful mum this time last year, suddenly and very unexpected and I've used food as my comfort.

I see that most of you on this thread have around the same amount to lose and it feels like climbing a mountain, I can't stand this heat as everyday is a struggle to find something to wear, I live in leggings as my stomach is so huge. Also a nighttime binge eater which doesn't help!

Hello everyone! It's lovely to see the new joiners.

@MollyAtTheFolly I know it's tough but as long as you're eating a calorie deficit you will be loosing. Are you measuring yourself? Or have an item of clothing to try and see if it's looser? Keep going!

@Cellobello What time is your food coming? If it were me I'd run to the spar and get a little salad, tomatoes, cucumber and tuna and have a tuna salad.

@missingmum I'm sorry to hear about your mum. I'm the same constantly in the same clothes and/ or declining social events that I want to go to because I have nothing to wear and/or feel uncomfortable. We can do this!

Can I join here please? I too weighed myself and an 15st at 5ft6. I am mortified. I'm due to go back to work next week and I am petrified they'll notice I've put on more weight. I'm hideous now and I wasn't a few years ago..I was slim and healthy. But I have been depressed and I didn't tell anyone. I can't keep making excuses anymore so here I am!

I'm frozen with fear though. I don't feel I should ever eat again quite frankly. Because I cannot be trusted to eat like a human clearly. One meal a day for me I think. People do that with success I think.

Report
Cellobello · 27/05/2020 09:52

@YellowPenny you've just reminded me that I do have some tuna in the cupboard!! Tuna salad it is! Grin

@missingmum Don't think of it as a mountain to climb. Instead set small targets and it will really keep the momentum going. From the last time I lost a lot of weight, what kept me going was the goals i set and each time I hit one, i treated myself.

@JamieFrasersKilt Dont think about how much you are eating, it's more WHAT you are eating. Before i started this, i was such a piglet, liked huge portions and ate whatever i wanted, probably eating 3-4000 calories a day Blush Now I am eating under 1500 but still eating a good amount. The difference now is that everything I eat is low fat or low calorie.

Report
MsJuniper · 27/05/2020 09:56

Well done cellobello that's great news. I also have that urge to "use up" things that I know will derail me. I guess if you have things you can either ration carefully or make part of something more healthy, then make some plans with those and give/throw away the rest?

I've lost 3lbs in my first week but my scales are being a little unreliable so I might have to buy some new ones. Earlier in the week it looked like I'd gained weight Shock so I stepped off and tried again - and it came up several lbs lighter. This has happened a few times since with changes in both directions.

JamieFraser there are lots of people here who are shorter and heavier than you - I am sure you are not hideous! I am doing MFP and also using some LighterLife meal replacements which I'd bought a while ago.
