6 stone + to lose ... Whos in?

ExplodingCarrots · 19/05/2020 09:50

I'm at my heaviest EVER! I've been battling my weight for 12 years and quite frankly I'm done with it now.

Poor DH is probably sick of the cycle of 'I'm fat , I hate myself, diet for 1 month, quit, repeat' . He confided that he was worried about me the other day health wise and just wants me to be happy and then my DD who's 6 made a couple of comments about my big belly (not being mean...just being a 6 year old). So this is has given me a big kick up the bum. My wedding and engagement rings also don't fit anymore Blush.

I'm an incredible emotional eater and suffer from anxiety and awful self esteem issues. It's a psychological battle each time I decide to 'diet'. I'm constantly trying to sabotage myself.

So...I've been calorie counting for the past week, doing one YouTube workout and going for an hour walk everyday (my distress also) , making sure I'm hitting at least 10000 steps. So far I'm feeling good.
I don't agree with super low calories but I've been aiming for and sticking to between 1500 - 1700 calories. My diet has been healthy and clean.

Anybody else up for using this thread as a support / check in / pick me up?

I've made the decision not to tell any friends and family about my journey this time because as soon as I do people start jumping on my bandwagon and start relying on me and whinging to me and it's something I know I can't deal with this time. This is why a thread like this would be perfect as we are complete strangers in the same boat.

My family have been serial dieters for 30 years Blush As soon as any of them catch wind I'm doing any kind of weight loss they want in too and Facebook chats get set up and I suddenly feel on display and pressured and when it goes wrong I get incredibly embarrassed and ashamed and the cycle begins again. Also, as I've been battling this for years I'm quite knowledgeable about stuff and I get asked questions and advice all day everyday and I end up getting overwhelmed.

So ...

Start weight : 14 stone 12.5
First Goal : 12 stone
Ultimate goal : 9 stone , maybe a bit under.
Height : 5ft 3.

It's really motivating reading other people's posts.. we can do this.

@SlimBig do you have any recommendations for meal replacements? I usually count calories and it works okay but open to look at meals replacements.

@billybagpuss wowza! In a river? Amazing! But be careful.

@Whymustyoubringinthebirds I weigh in on a Monday morning.. and I'm being really strict I'm not weighing myself everyday (did that all last week) and it was becoming obsessive.

It's going to be a scorching day today and this is where I'd usually fail.. cider and wine in the garden with a bbq (the unhealthy food type). I'm going to have lunch before I sit in the garden and haven't bought any alcohol so that isn't in the house. Anyone else got any tips?

lou967 · 20/05/2020 08:36

@YellowPenny just think that by not eating bbq etc and not drinking, you are making healthy choices and are one step closer to your goal.

stellarsky · 20/05/2020 08:39

May I join?
I'm working from home and home schooling, I've just been grazing constantly and the minute the sun is out I'm out with a cold beer or similar.
I'm planning to try and cook healthy meals. Eat fruit in between. Ans drink plenty water.
I am also of the age where it's harder to get weight off.

ExplodingCarrots · 20/05/2020 08:42

@billybagpuss hope you find somewhere and stay safe. I'm in wales and I'm not allowed to travel for exercise just yet . I'm missing the beach, especially now the weather is getting warmer. Can't wait to start beach / coastal path walks.

@Whymustyoubringinthebirds my first weigh in was a Friday. I'm trying to decide whether to do a weekly weigh or weigh everyday and do a weekly average. That's worked for me before because it showed just how much your weight can fluctuate in a week. That one time you weigh on your weigh day may be a time it's higher and you can get disheartened. I learned that from Team RH. Find them on Facebook. They're one of the of the companies doing it right .

Can I join please? 6 stone would take me just into the healthy bmi range. Can ever remember being that weight as been fat my whole life even as a child!
Need to lose it as diagnosed as type 2 diabetic in January which is a much higher risk fir COVID. It’s going to be really hard

nobodyloveslava · 20/05/2020 08:43

Can I join please? I'm very overweight, not helped by lockdown causing me to eat everything in sight.
I'm also 6 months pregnant so know I can't really diet at the moment but definitely need to do something to slow the gain!

YellowPenny · 20/05/2020 08:45

Thanks @lou967 you're right.

The pandemic is working in my favour today... I start strong but then think "oh just one cider won't hurt, it's probably the only sunny day we'll have" and walk to the shop to buy at least four. However, i can't walk in to a shop and only buy cider now.. so that's good.

Welcome @stellarsky I'm definitely guilty of grazing/ snacking constantly when WFH as well... I find I'm too busy at work. I'm only snacking on fruit as well (and apart from one bit of a cupcake have managed all last week).

Surprisingly, after a few days I found I wasn't hungry between meals I read on another thread about recognising the physical signs of hunger (and I didn't have any) they were all psychological. This has helped me a lot, and for the past few days I haven't had ANY snacks.

ExplodingCarrots · 20/05/2020 08:46

@YellowPenny just making little changes like not having the alcohol or changing what you eat on the BBQ is a big start. I don't agree with mega changes straight away as I know I'll be binging not long after.

@stellarsky welcome ! Yes the weather is a big thing. I can go months without drinking , I'm not bothered by it , but lately I've been drinking more just because we're at home, bored and the weather is good.

I probably won't be back until later now, going to start my day with an upper body workout as my legs are sore from yesterday.

Have a good day everyone. Smile

@ExplodingCarrots That's so interesting about the weighing yourself. I hadn't ever thought of that.. super helpful thread already.

ExplodingCarrots · 20/05/2020 08:52

@YellowPenny dehydration plays a massive part. People tend to stick with the 2litre rule when if you're a lot bigger you need much more. I wasn't drinking much at all and wondering why I was having problems down below. Now I'm making sure I drinks my 1 litre bottle 3 times a day and if I drink more it's a bonus ...and I feel much better and think thats why I don't need as much snacks.

@nobodyloveslava @TheStirrer Welcome. Come on in.

I'm also high risk of type 2 diabetes. Also using this as motivation.

Please can I join?

I lost 3 stone last year on slimming world, which I did by myself, not by attending meetings.

This year I've slowly put on about half a stone but then lockdown has sent me over the edge and put on another 5-6 pounds. Blush

This group has come at the right time for me as I was planning on starting tomorrow after my healthy food delivery comes.

I'm hating the warm weather, as I feel awful and just want to hide.

OP, strangely my 6 year old also called me fat mummy the other day Hmm

ExplodingCarrots · 20/05/2020 08:55

@YellowPenny I've taken a screen shot of when I was consistent weighing a couple of years ago . You can see fluctuations. I use the Fitbit app as it tells you weekly average . It takes a while to get used to and I wasn't happy at first but just try to ignore the daily number and go by weekly average.

6 stone + to lose ... Whos in?

@Cellobello well done on your losses so far. I used to do slimming world and did have success with it.

6 year olds are brutal. We were watching Wall-e and the people in the hover beds came on and she asked why they couldn't walk and I said because they're too big. Then she said that I was bigger than them and I can still walk! There's zero filter.

@ExplodingCarrots I’m definitely inspired now, but we are on the English side of the welsh border and all the best swimming spots are welsh side or it’s an hour drive, but I think I’ve found a lake swim club that’s ope, I bet their membership will soar.

Cellobello · 20/05/2020 11:36

When is everyone's weekly weigh day? I'm weighing for my starting weight tomorrow but then i will be weighing weekly on a Friday.

@Cellobello Friday will be when I take my weekly average.

@Losedontsnooze Welcome Smile I'm the same, I'm struggling to do normal day to day things. I struggled to get out of the bath the other day and I ended up getting huge cramps in my side when I was trying to wax my own legs.

@Losedontsnooze you'll soon be zipping those jeans up with ease.

SlimBig · 20/05/2020 15:00

@YellowPenny I’m using Huel simply because it’s vegan and pleasant tasting when blitzed with plant milk and ice. I’ve done both slim fast and exante in the past though.

I’m a daily weighter weekly average person too

YellowPenny · 20/05/2020 19:53

@ExplodingCarrots That was super helpful! Thank you.

@SlimBig I'm just researching them now. I'll let you know if I order any.

I weighed myself today and I've lost half a stone! It was the motivation I needed to not drink several ciders in the garden today.

How did everyone else get on in the sunny weather?

ExplodingCarrots · 20/05/2020 22:06

@YellowPenny well done ! That's awesome!

I sat in the garden with cups of tea and my bottle of water. Also went for my hours walk which was nice.

Checking in. Not doing too badly so far, and trying hard to praise myself for success as opposed to dismissing it as "Its always easy to start with". I'm tracking every morsel, which is quite shocking at times and seems to be quite good motivation for not snacking much. It is SO hard not grazing all day with breakfast, kids' elevenses, lunch, kids' afternoon tea, kids' supper, our supper. But I'm pretty convinced being 5 stone overweight, having nothing to wear, the shame, the fear of ill health, and frankly the low self esteem that comes from disordered eating is much much harder. Im 3 lbs down so far, weighing every few days to keep the motivation up. Good luck today everybody.

Speminalium · 21/05/2020 07:18

And I've calculated my meals on MPF to allow for a nice glass of rose tonight. If I have to give up the odd treat it is definitely not going to work long term!!

ExplodingCarrots · 21/05/2020 08:32

@Speminalium morning ! Yes, you're right. If you cut out everything and don't leave anything to look forward to it makes it ten times harder. Enjoy your Rose tonight Wine. I had a baileys hot chocolate as a 'treat' other night and it was lovely..I was still under my calories too.

Meal plan today

Breakfast : Porridge with blueberries and raspberries.
Lunch : left over burrito mince made into wraps using Romaine lettuce.
Dinner : Steak, Jacket potato and lots of salad.

OP posts:
Cellobello · 21/05/2020 08:43

Bad news: First weigh in this morning to get my starting weight and it is worse than I thought Sad

Good news: I am feeling fully focused and already have a meal plan for today.

First target: to lose the first 8 pounds to get into the next stone category by the end of June.

Good luck and good eating, everyone Smile
