Lockdown lose a stone! That tricky last stone!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 18/04/2020 11:38

Hello,
So I got back on the scales today and I was 9 stone 12.5.

The Dukan diet calculator says I can be 8 stone 10 by June 20.
Can this be true? Let us try it out!!

Based on my exhaustive and extensive diet 'research' from the last 27 out of 41 years of my life and weight ranging between 8 stone and 12.7 stone I am going to do the following:

  1. Daily 'change my mindset' reading in the morning
  2. Meal plan for the week but every morning commit to what I am going to eat for the day.
  3. Follow a low carb diet based on Dukan when my book arrives and Louise Parker recipes because I love her.
  4. Tuesdays and Thursdays are 16/8 days.
  5. Beachbody on demand - Morning meltdown 100 workouts.

I have lipoedema and I am not 100% sure my thyroid works.
I haven't got any lower than 9 stone 10 in the last two years.

I feel well and might as well use this lockdown time to focus on balancing the blood sugar and my insulin response! Weight loss should be the result.

Anyone else want to join in and lose a stone over the next couple of months?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the encouragement - I did stay strong!!

I found an Options hot chocolate at the back of my cupboard - so good shout Yukka!

Welcome FuntimeFrankie - you can do it! Be prepared that the Attak phase may come with some odd side effects but you can do it!

This is the earliest I have woken up in ages so an early morning check in.

Day 27
Motivation: Ideas for alternatives when needing a dopamine hit: Call a friend, have a bubble bath, read a book for fun, listen to your favourite songs, go for a walk and get outside.

Meals: PV day
B: Oatbran, rhubarb, vanilla yogurt
L: Chicken Salad
D: Burger with Salad
Salad dressing: 5 tbls of balsamic vingear, 1 tsp of olive oil, 1 tbls of Dijion mustard, 1 garlic clove (whole) that marinates in there.
Snacks: Seaweed, SF jelly

Movement: Meltodown workout 27 - lower body weight session

It'a sunny day!! Have a great day!!

x

Well done @myohmywhatawonderfulday those hot chocolates really are a saviour!

Today is
B protein shake
L oatmeal galette, ricotta, onions and peppers
D pork steak, broccoli, green beans
S apple, 2nd shake if needed

6 mile walk this afternoon with the pram, I think it's that which is quietly having an effect on my upper body strength. Possibly a run or turbo session when dh gets home.

It's weird how my tummy doesn't rumble, I don't have too many cravings but I do have a constant 'need' for something. I can't quite describe it.

Have a good day everyone!

OhCobblers · 14/05/2020 10:06

Morning
I start with the caveat that I feel like the voice of doom on this thread, but I do come onto it often and find it motivational so .............

If I'm on 1000 calories a day, burning off 200-400 calories 6 days a week, why is the weight not dropping off?! Is it an age thing? I'm late 40s.

If I have measured myself properly there is a chance that I've lost 1" off my waist and hips which is great but I was hoping I would have lost at least 1/2 a stone in 5-6 weeks. My stomach is a big problem area!!

Would welcome any tips or advice. Smile

TeaRose29 · 14/05/2020 13:08

Hi there @OhCobblers. The only diet that works for me quickly and easily (rather than painfully slowly, like Slimming World) is the Dukan. I find that it’s not just the calories, it’s where they come from. 1,200 calories (or more) of mainly protein, I lose. 1,200 calories of mainly carbs, I don’t. I have problems with hypoglycaemia adn keeping my blood sugar stable, so that could be part of it. I know it’s really frustrating when you feel like you are practically starving yourself and getting nowhere. Why don’t you experiment a bit with your macros? Xx

OhCobblers · 14/05/2020 13:45

Thanks @TeaRose29 I do eat 99% protein but have been having things like chick peas / felafel which are lower in calories but agree carbs don't work for me. I don't eat rice pasta bread or potatoes as a rule so not sure where it's going wrong. The med diet says to include beans etc but maybe avoiding them like Dukan is best?

yukka · 14/05/2020 13:51

I was going to say similar, there might be something in your diet that your body just chooses to store rather than burn. Have you got much weight to loose?

You could also think about kick starting your metabolism by being really strict for a few days, (like Dukan) or introduce fasting once or twice a week, less than 500 calories in a day - it's hard but it does work.

I agree with @TeaRose29 , do some experimenting.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 14/05/2020 19:08

So I will let you into something that is worth a try and I really hope it doesn't make you weigh more. Maybe try it for a week and see what happens. I am going to do this when my weight loss stalls for a period of time.

Only exercise every other day for a week. On the day that you do exercise make it a HIIT session where you truly do 45 or 60 seconds on and rest for 25 minutes. You have to breathe really hard.

On the day that you exercise eat a jacket potato with beans and a spinkle of cheese for lunch assuming you are exercising a few hours later.

The other days stick to your low carb/low diary/low everything (!) diet like we are all doing.

The rest days should make your body relax and your body will use the carbs for your exercise and will leave you burning fat for the rest of the day.

It's what I did to get from 8 stone 7 to 8 stone for my wedding. Its called carb cycling and body builders use it to get to really low weights.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 14/05/2020 19:09

I think between the ideas that Yukka and TeaRose29 have suggested one of them will work. I hope, fingers crossed. It is so pants when you are working so hard and nothing is coming off.

OhCobblers · 14/05/2020 20:08

@myohmywhatawonderfulday thanks so much. I normally do a jo wicks session alongside a run but is there anything else you would recommend?

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 14/05/2020 21:31

Maybe do a sprint/walk type of run - because Joe Wicks does hit doesn't he?

When I was trying to lose weight for my wedding I stalled at 8.7 stone and I went to see a trainer and he got me to exercise less and eat more. It was a win win situation. Alas I couldn't sustain it ...but I am hoping that this is my last time losing the weight!

Weigh in day today and I'm still the same! This is is mad-I've been so good with both food and exercise. My weekend wasn't great but not too bad either.
But I do think I'm looking a bit trimmer and my clothes are fitting a bit better. So I'm going to persevere, I just wish it was reflected on the scales.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 15/05/2020 13:50

Make sure you take regular pics - the scales only tell part of the story. Who knows why some days we retain water and sometimes we don't. I know the initial feeling is disappointment but take the NSV's into account - your clothes are fitting better! Its a lot of little wins that eventually add up to a big win.

Vanilla yogurt
D: Omlette and smoked salmon
S: Billtong, cottage cheese

I have a lot of work to do all of a sudden and I am feeling like I would like a snooze!

See you all soon

Weigh in day

I am going to preface this by saying I have never followed a diet where I have had such results. This is as new and surprising to me and is unfolding in real time.

I lost another 2lbs which means I now weigh 9stone and half a pound.
12 lbs in four weeks so far.

My DH can't believe it as he as lived with me through all the changes in eating over the past two years.

All I can say is merci beaucoup Dr Dukan!!

Day 29 Commitments

Motivation: It takes 66 days to form a habit - keep going!

Meals:
Oatbran porridge, rhubard, skyr vanilla yogurt
Nando's tofu with salad
(Put Nandos sauce on slices of tofu then fry in a frying pan using fry spray)
Chicken and green beans with balsamic vinegar

Movement: Strength workout

I have just re-read my post above and the phrase 'unfolding in real time' makes me sound not real. I am real and I really and doing this!

RedKite1 · 16/05/2020 11:09

Wow myohmywhatawonderfulday that is impressive! Well done! I am inspired to join. I am reading the thread and will weigh on Monday. DH birthday this weekend and obviously can only start on Monday.

I am 53, 5ft 5 and probably weigh 10 st and would like to get back to 9st. I haven’t weighed that for 2 or 3 years, none of my nice clothes fit, I carry weight on my middle.

I don’t know anything about Dukan but will look into that, I have Louise Parker’s books but never read them. I also have the BSD books.

OhCobblers · 16/05/2020 12:40

@myohmywhatawonderfulday
That's fabulous! Well done. I've lost 2lbs this week finally!! A decent amount in a week!
Did interval training on my run yesterday - the dog was not so thrilled - she had trouble keeping up Grin

yukka · 16/05/2020 13:36

@myohmywhatawonderfulday fantastic! That's brilliant, you have been so committed to the diet I'm pleased it's working for you.

Sadly no change for me this week! I was shocked given I've been really strict and loads of exercise. But, I have upped my water intake massively and I literally think it's that. My physical body has changed, so I'm sticking to my guns.

Happy Saturday everyone!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 16/05/2020 13:51

Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for your well wishes - I am really pleased. Yukka you are doing so well and you are my bud and so you have to keep going! Oh Cobblers - ummmm give your dog a pet from me and tell him I am sorry!! I am so pleased you got a loss!!

Redkite1 - welcome. I am going to really recommend the Dukan diet because I am having such a good result from it. The early days are a bit of a slog but once you find things you like to eat then its just keeping at it. I got the book second hand from Amazon.

Happy Saturday!!

Thanks @myohmywhatawonderfulday I'm not giving up. Going to stick with current schedule for another week and see how it goes! I know I'm impatient...I just need to keep doing what I'm doing 😩

@RedKite1 this thread's really helpful checking in and supporting each other. Hope you have since weekend before you start!

@OhCobblers Amazing well done! Really chuffed you're seeing some change again, good effort :)

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 17/05/2020 11:32

Hello!

So its Day 30 for me - where has that time gone?!

It's a pure protein day (pp). Here are my commitments:

Motivation: There are five 'pillars' to being successful at weight loss. They are 1. Have a meal plan where you like the food. 2. Drink water. 3. Set Non Scale Victory Goals. 4. Find exercise that you like to do. 5. Have some sort of social accountability (eg friend, coach, ww/slimming world group, mumsnet group!)

Meals:
B: Skyr vanilla yogurt
L: Bacon and scrambled egg + egg white
D: Chicken ramen soup
S: Billtong, ricotta + oatbran 'bread' - a new addition to my repertoire!

Movement: Flow workout 30/100 of Morning Meltodown

I don't really know what I am going to do today... what are you/have you done today?

OP posts:
TeaRose29 · 17/05/2020 14:25

Well done @myohmywhatawonderfulday! I'm so pleased to hear that Dukan has worked for you. I've always been dubious of his approach to eating veg - imagine a diet where you're craving salad, and cabbage is a treat! - but it does seem to work, and crucially for me, I don't get all that hungry.

I'm still the same weight today - we had another Chinese on Friday, and I couldn't restart yesterday as I had to drive all the way to Liverpool and back (takes 4 hours each way) with my daughter to pick up all her stuff from her university accommodation, now that we are finally allowed to "move house". It was a long day, although not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I did allow myself some chocolate though. I also had very little to drink, as I was terrified of needing to pee on the journey! I've no idea whether the loos on the motorway services are still open, and I didn't fancy using a public loo anyway!

So, will press the reset button tomorrow. There is talk of more lifting of lockdown on 4th July, and I want to be at target by then, so only about 6 or 7 weeks to go! Have a good week everyone!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 17/05/2020 14:55

@Tearose29 I think that is one of the reasons for years I have shied away from a diet like his - because to my brain - meat is inflammatory therefore eat more veg. What I will say, is that from what you have said, we sound quite similar. I find it hard to balance my blood sugar too - this way just must work for our particular bodies.
I also find knowing whether to drink on long trips stressful because I always need to wee! Glad your trip went smoothly.

I have come back on to share with you my bread!! It came out so well. It was 2 eggs, 4 tbsp of Oatbran, 2 tbsp of porridge oats, 4 tbsp of fat free cottage cheese and 2 teaspoons of dried quick yeast (I used a Doves Farm one in an orange packet).
Whizz it up.
Put your silicon tray on your baking tray before you pour.
Pour the mix in and bake for 30 minutes at 180 degrees.

I already had the doughnut/bagel silicon tray.

I had two 'doughnuts' with ricotta, stevia and lemon cream and it was amazing!!

Myohmy that is amazing. Well done! I'm looking forward to a good week! Hope everyone is feeling positive. The sun will be shining so I'm going to use that as an excuse to eat light, fresh food. I know my husband will want to do a BBQ some evenings, but i don't think that should be a problem if I'm honest about what I'm eating.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 18/05/2020 09:15

Beautyqueenfrompluto I think bbq's are the best because you can eat really nice meat with lots of salad - especially when the weather is like this too.
