Morning, thought I would start a new thread for March as it has been such a good thread again in February. I think the supportive atmosphere really helps us all. I'm hoping to be dead on 9stone by the end of March, currently 9st3.25 (total loss of 8 pounds).

Well done for your persistence octopus (or octopus, I quite like that image)!

Well done heygirl on the exercise.

Porpoises · 18/03/2020 21:11

Arg, the second was meant to say octopud Grin but it autocorrected.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 18/03/2020 22:13

Well done all! Hope you are feeling better soon @Canklesforankles.
I've had an afternoon off today with a Chinese and a couple of beers with a virtual night out. Was good the rest of the day though.

Octopus37 · 19/03/2020 07:13

Thanks Heygirl, likewise. Porpoises I'm impressed by your menu, well done. Iggles the Chinese sounds lovely. 9st1.5 this morning I'll take that. Stating the obvious here, but I think its a case of just keeping going at some level whilst all this craziness is going on. Really feeling for people stuck at home with little ones, not going to be easy with a 10 and 12 year old but easier.

Canklesforankles · 19/03/2020 07:37

Thanks iggle I am better. My weight has been static which I’m happy with after sliding back to carb land. It was like cocaine - toast, hot cross buns, crunchy nut cornflakes. Wall to wall carbs.

Back on it now. Very busy at work so that helps me not graze.

Well done everyone. If we can take care of ourselves then something good will come out of this strange time.

Porpoises · 19/03/2020 07:52

Agree cankles. Saw an article on how to boost your immune system:
Eat healthy, with loads of nutrients
Vitamin D
Exercise
Keep stress low
Good night's sleep

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/mar/08/how-to-boost-your-immune-system-to-avoid-colds-and-coronavirus

Keep on keeping healthy folks SmileFlowers. Let's move to maintenance rather than loss if we need a break with all that's going on. But a nutritious diet and exercise are some of the best things we can do at the moment anyway.

TheHoundsofLove · 19/03/2020 08:59

I also agree Cankles ! I'm mainly aiming to stay the same and keep up my fitness.
Octopus I really feel for people trying to occupy little children at home too - not easy at all. My son is 10, so it's much easier and he can at least get on with his schoolwork without too much input from me.
Hope that nobody is getting too stressed. Flowers

Heygirlheyboy · 19/03/2020 09:17

I'm very much aware there's weeks of this ahead, two under 7 here and an elderly DF to look after. A daily walk is going to be essential for me as long as we can.go out. I have an assignment to do today and wfh'fri-sun. Every healthy meal a plus. I may stop weighing and just enjoy proper meals while avoiding sugar/lone binging.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 19/03/2020 09:52

I really recommend having a virtual tea break with a few mates for anyone who is self isolating. Set up a Google hangout or a zoom and just 15 mins cup of tea and a chat about your day. It's helping me reduce stress, which I think also helps with staying healthy.

Porpoises · 19/03/2020 11:10

Yep, I've set up a daily one with work colleagues :)

Octopus37 · 19/03/2020 12:31

Porpoises love my new name Octopud, think it will stick. Just eating some chocolate.

Octopus37 · 19/03/2020 18:03

Well its fair to say I've slashed my own tyres today. Know you shouldn't eat your feelings and we are all in the same boat at the moment but upset and worried about my Dad, its my Mum's anniversary upset about whole situation (as we all are) and think I may have PMT, but don't know as periods all over the place.
Have eaten:
Breakfast - 1 and a half cereal bars
Lunch - Lots of chocolate and loads of crisps
Snacks - Loads more crisps
Dinner - A bit bowl of filled pasta with olive and tomato sauce.
Want to do better tomorrow, meeting up with my friend cause she has got to have a colonoscopy (poor thing, another worry) and I am going to the hospital with her and keeping an eye on her afterwards, talk of a take away afterwards.

Guess its a case of keep calm and carry on, even though I anticipate two pounds weight gain tomorrow. Hope everyone else has had a better day.

Hi everyone. Sorry, slipped off the thread for a while there. I'm thinking a bit of chub to tide me through the lean times ahead may be no bad thing! It is a very strange time. I have survived my first day homeschooling all three kids (oldest has been off all week) but it has been a constant stream of disappointments for them. They have not twigged yet they won't be seeing their friends for months. Trying not to think about our summer plans. I have to continue working and I simply don't feel safe because fuckwit clients think they are invincible and guidelines don't apply to them. Sad times....

EndlessUserName · 19/03/2020 19:21

@Porpoises thanks for the post above. Very important advice

We have had a takeaway tonight in case it's our last for a while.

Sorry it's such a tough time @Octopus37

Let's all be kind to ourselves

winterisstillcoming · 19/03/2020 20:29

Hi all. You are all coping brilliantly under turbulent times. I think Maintenance is a good way forward as we all try and find our new normal.

My stress levels are through the roof at the mo. No time or inclination to eat. My husband and I are frontline NHS and the house is upside down as our bedroom and family room are empty and being plastered. Worked a full day dealing with anxious and demanding patients, picked kids up and came home to a layer of dust. Still cleaning up. Husband on phone and will be until midnight. Kids are so confused. My period arrived today. My mum put the phone down on me as I'm her emotional punchbag.

And breathe. Everyone's healthy and safe. These are all first world problems. I've given myself permission to eat what I like as a treat and I can't stomach it. Once I de stress - about Sunday, I'll be ready for the mammoth afternoon tea I've ordered from the local tea room.

Let's see what weigh in brings 🤷🏽‍♀️. Hang in there everyone

Heygirlheyboy · 19/03/2020 20:50

Flowers to you winter. You're a hero. I'm mid assignment here, fig rolls and marble cake consumed so tyres v thin but three good meals and no secret inhalation of food so that's a plus! I think a takeaway tomorrow night a great idea!

Octopus37 · 19/03/2020 21:54

You are indeed a hero Winters. Look after yourself as best you can.

TheHoundsofLove · 20/03/2020 12:35

Best wishes to you winter . Flowers
I've not been very focused on the food front (am still sticking to 16:8 though) but am managing to keep up my usual exercise and have done my favourite 8.5km run and weights session (at home) this morning. My husband's making Chinese tonight - one upside of having him working from home! Grin And I'm not going to lie....there will be wine involved!
I hope that everyone else is okay and not too stressed.

Canklesforankles · 20/03/2020 15:10

I lost another 1lb!

Just sent this to a friend

Remember that this is not a lethal virus for most people (I know we have older people or those with health problems to worry about). The measures are to try to slow the demand on nhs to give everyone a chance rather than a measure of how much most of the population is in danger. But the measures make it look that the fabric of society is unraveling and that makes us feel scared. We interpret the restrictions as Armageddon but they are the sign of a compassionate society.

Canklesforankles · 20/03/2020 15:12

Winter
I’m HCP and DH is self employed. We are both evil at home. We will have to sort it or it will be a very long spring/summer

TheHoundsofLove · 20/03/2020 16:29

That's a good way of looking at it Cankles !

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 20/03/2020 17:13

Well done cankles! I'm on day 5 of isolation (as a family so not as bad as being in a room on my own) tbh I'm more worried about the effects of long term social isolation than I am about the disease... I've not been so good on the diet the past few days, but I have been trying.
B. Porridge and grated apple
L. Tin of lentil soup one slice of toast and butter
D. Turkey meatballs, pasta salad, wine if I can find any
S. Shot of cassis (for my nerves, lol)

TheHoundsofLove · 20/03/2020 18:55

I hope you're managing okay Iggle . Flowers I feel exactly the same - I know it's what we must all do and there's no other choice but I think the long term effects of this are going to be very damaging to our mental health.
I'm mainly planning to cope by keeping up my exercise, gardening and sewing and chocolate and wine ! Maybe we will all emerge lithe and goddess-like in a few months... Grin

TheHoundsofLove · 20/03/2020 18:56

Not that I'm suggesting anyone is anything less than gorgeous all ready....but I hope you know what I mean! Grin

winterisstillcoming · 20/03/2020 20:00

Hi all. Thank you for your kind responses. Keeping calm and carrying on here! Completely echo PP. We are all heroes in this. Staying home and breaking the chain of transmission is a big ask, and goes against our social nature. All of us are making big and small sacrifices.Think of self isolation as the chrysalis phase. You will soon be able to flap your wings........

Weighed in today. 2lbs down! Some of it is stress loss which goes back on quickly so we shall see. But I'm taking it as always.

Also if you are not doing so, consider Vit. D. lack of it can make you feel down and lethargic which is the last thing you need to feel when isolated.

Well done all for keeping on track and checking in
