Banting is my favourite old fashioned word. Means slimming, and I got it from Agatha Christie Grin

Well done cankles
I like the Roasting tin cookbook too - I bought it as they are written by a friend of a friend but it has some nice ideas.
I have spent the afternoon at the most amateur of am-dram pantomimes, the kids loved it but jeez it was long! I managed to avoid the snacking - the kids had a proper old fashioned choc ice but I resisted.
Spag bol for tea, with sneaky extra veg (I learned a new word 'soffrito'). I didn't manage my 16:8 today as I was starving this morning so I had breakfast, but that's ok.

Octopus37 · 01/02/2020 18:31

Well done Cankles, you sound as if you are doing really well. was 9.6.75 this morning. Today haven't been too bad, as ever struggled with being hangry and the day isn't over yet. Just wish that I felt some benefits of healthy eating, rather than just being headachey and moody, but nevermind maybe I will in time.
Breakfast - 2 oatcakes and 7 almonds (I'm original me)
Snack - 1 Malteser Easter bunny (157 cals)
Lunch - Sandwich with 2 slices of seeded bread and I mini babybel
Snack - 1 Wispa mini hero
Dinner - Homemade Chicken Chowmein

I don't aim not to have any snacks any more cause I am loosely following the Seretonin diet (would help if the book had arrived from Amazon, sadly it didn't so got a refund), which advocates snacking in order to regulate Seretonin levels. Have been on and off ADs for various reasons and for this reason have struggled with my weight. Going back 6 years I only weighed 8st7 at the most. Obviously age hasn't helped and I know I'll never be like I was in my 30s but doing my best. Lemonyfuckit, going to look up The Quick Roasting Tin, sounds great.

WellErrr · 01/02/2020 18:35

Welcome Lemony! I’m 5’1, a few of us shorties here!

My day so far:

B - actimel and banana (108)
L - leftover weighed Lidl chicken pizza (401)
D - small weighed portion of mince and tatties (411)

S - yogurt, handful of crisps and a Milky Way (252)

Total - 1172cals, 228 left.

Snacks are my downfall at the moment!! I’ve just been really peckish because I’ve had a couple of days off, it’s always harder to get started again!

Might have some fruit and yogurt after the kids go to bed, but I’ll still be under 1400.

My resolution for this week is to crack down on the snacking!!!!

@Patchworksack soffrito is my favourite! Do you know that you can buy it ready chopped and frozen? Saves me so much time as I use loads of it

DontFundHate · 01/02/2020 18:55

Oh god, Easter is so hard for me, I wish it didn't start so early! I'm into any of the eggs - creme egg, caramel, Oreo, Reese's. Any kind of egg filled with anything

Wyre · 01/02/2020 19:05

Hello, please may I join you?

I need to lose around 25lbs, to get me back into a healthy BMI.

I've just (successfully) completed Dry January in the hopes of dropping a few pounds, but have recorded zero losses due to substituting wine for tea and cake. Sad

I really have run out of excuses and decided it's time to make permanent changes once and for all. I'm going to continue alcohol free into February, but be a bit more mindful and try to have healthier meals and no snacks.

I'm in no rush, although I do have a summer holiday booked. I hope to get some support and encouragement on this thread and pick up some good tips and habits. Smile

Patchworksack · 01/02/2020 19:16

Hi wyre Grin
dontfund I think I came across the term soffrito in the Tesco magazine and they were advertising the frozen chopped version, but they don't sell it in my local store. Our high street is officially a 'food desert' which is hilarious because it is wall to wall takeaways! The only supermarket is a Tesco metro but it very much caters to local taste for beige food. We do have a decent butcher and greengrocer but they are quite expensive, and Iceland, which until recently I've been a bit sniffy about but I have realised if you walk past the aisles of pies they sell a massive range of frozen fruit and veg.
I think giving up chocolate for Lent might need to be a thing this year! Still wavering about 'no refined sugar February' I can't remember who suggested that. I am enjoying the Greek yoghurt with berries, haven't convinced anyone else yet.

Patchworksack · 01/02/2020 19:18

I want a Malteaser bunny now! Blush

WellErrr · 01/02/2020 19:18

Hi wyre! I highly recommend calorie counting with an app!

WellErrr · 01/02/2020 19:19

Ooh yes Patchwork I might give up chocolate for Lent too!

Patchworksack · 01/02/2020 19:21

octopus your menu looks like you have lots of carbs and not much protein. I wonder if your hanger would be better if you went a bit lower GI/higher protein?

Heygirlheyboy · 01/02/2020 19:52

I've survived the training day with biscuits and bars on offer at tea break! I had a lovely veg soup with soda bread for lunch and a roast.chicken dinner, piled the plate but went low on carbs and worked out at around 1250, weetabix for.breakfast. finally noticing a bit of slouchiness in my jeans. Period next week :( I would have 1340 (my allowance) was really low but my fitbit.generally shows on non active days I'm really not burning much more than 1500 or so.. Mon May 4th is my projected day for target! Eek. Good luck for the rest of the weekend. Octopus I'm like you and eat carbs, inc fruit/veg over protein so I'm trying to make a point of increasing protein, and not only cheese!

DontFundHate · 01/02/2020 19:52

@Patchworksack no sugar was me! Oh wait but it's for Feb and I've had loads of sugar today! 😂

DontFundHate · 01/02/2020 19:56

Lent would be interesting, I may need more motivation by then too as I should be much closer to target. And that event where there will be lots of sugar will be over too

Heygirlheyboy · 01/02/2020 20:02

Years ago I gave up everything for Lent and my boyfriend at the time got me 40 creme eggs for Easter 😂 I saw anit interesting called Breaking up with Sugar, written by a specialist in disordered eating, which I'd say my chocolate bingeing was.. might be worth a read as like yo *DontFund

DontFundHate · 01/02/2020 20:31

40 creme eggs! Amazing!!

onedayiwillmissthis · 01/02/2020 20:40

William Banting was a British undertaker who was very obese and desperately wanted to lose weight. In the year 1862 he paid a visit to his doctor, William Harvey, who proposed a radical eating plan that was high in fat but included very few carbohydrates. By following this eating plan Banting experienced such remarkable weight loss that he wrote an open letter to the public, the “Letter on Corpulence”, which became widely distributed. As more people started following this eating plan to lose weight, the term “banting” or to “bant” became popularised.

So, most of the foods I see listed here would not be included on a "Banting" diet😆

WellErrr · 01/02/2020 21:01

Ah yes very true but by the 1920s and 30s ‘banting’ has slipped into meaning just slimming. It’s one of my favourite old fashioned words 😂😂

I’m massively slipping into my old ways :(

I used to eat so much sugar, and crave it all the time - since starting this though I’ve cut down massively, simply because the calories don’t allow.
But once I have a day or two off, it’s like hitting reset on the sugar crave and I just get really bad again. I’ve just had another luxury salted caramel bombe (they were 50p after Christmas and I bought loads..!) with custard, then a bite of a snickers and a Lidl mini chocolate bar.

I don’t even really want it!! And I feel dreadful now!! I’m going properly properly back on the wagon tomorrow, and I’ve thrown the rest of the puddings out. I just can’t do moderation! 😭😭

WellErrr · 01/02/2020 21:02

Really really REALLY don’t want to undo all my hard work Sad

OP posts:
Heygirlheyboy · 01/02/2020 21:33

WellErr you sound a bit like me, that book I mentioned above says nearly 50 days before you get rid of the habit/craving. I don't feel it 32 days in but no way would I trust myself to have one just yet!

WellErrr · 01/02/2020 21:38

I feel dreadful now! You realise how bad this crap is for your body when you haven’t had it for a while

OP posts:
Heygirlheyboy · 01/02/2020 21:48

I know I had a coffee last week with half a teaspoon sugar and couldn't drink it. Great to feel the changes tho.

WellErrr · 01/02/2020 22:10

I’ve got a 917 calorie day planned tomorrow to reset myself, and I’m going to try and drink loads of water to just flush all the sugar out!
If that’s how it works....???!
