I’ve been living off Brie and chocolate since December began and I’ve put weight on. Currently 9st4lbs and I want to be 8st10lbs.
Anyone with me!?

Going to try calorie counting but open to suggestions. I currently eat far to much crap which is the root of the problem.

I am using Myfitnesspal and going to the gym more.

toasterstrudle · 14/01/2020 08:15

I watched that programme last night, it was really interesting! I agree how its mad that actually all the diets work - the tricky bit is sticking to it!

Patchworksack · 14/01/2020 08:15

Hello myume the more, the merrier!

Octopus37 · 14/01/2020 08:35

Had quite a good day yesterday.
2 Oatcakes and 7 almonds for breakfast
Lunch - Two third of a bag of Graze mix
Snack - A Twirl bar
Dinner - Slimming World Vegetable Biriyani
Also had a little taste of some pasta and sweetcorn to see if it was done

Think the Seretoninpowerdiet looks very interesting. Anti-depressants and stress eating have been big factors in my weight gain. Will be looking into it, interesting that carbs are mot the enemy there, as I am definitely finding it easier to diet eating carbs, even though it goes against the grain, no pun intended

Wineloffa · 14/01/2020 08:53

I did low carb this time last year and whereas I did lose weight, I felt rubbish on it and exercising was more challenging as I felt I had no energy. Should say I was also calorie counting but eating v little carbs.

This time, I’m calorie counting but still eating the bread, potatoes, rice (not massive amounts but they still feature) and I feel so much better! I’m doing 3 spinning classes a week which feel a lot more comfortable with energy to burn and the weight is coming off more quickly.

Yesterday I ate:

B- porridge and milk
L- mackerel and wheaten bread
D- pasta carbonara (small portion)

Snacks- apple, banana, small slice cake (DS’ birthday)

Calories came in at 1345 because of the cake but I did a gruelling spin class yesterday which kept me on track.

TheHoundsofLove · 14/01/2020 10:15

Low carbing doesn't seem to suit me either. I feel that my body is far happier with enough carbs to exercise well. I also think that allowing myself to eat more (including carbs) and then exercising more has really perked my metabolism up - I have underactive thyroid so it was really sluggish before. I will try to watch that programme later - sounds interesting so thanks for the heads up. I agree with everyone that any diet will work if you stick with it, but it can be tricky to find what suits you can't it? I find that it's taken me quite a long time about a decade Shock to find a way of eating that really suits me and that I think I can stick to long-term.
On another note, is anyone else doing yoga with Adrienne? I'm really loving it and find it sooo relaxing - it really does have such a calming effect on me.

Twixes · 14/01/2020 11:50

With kids I think low carbing is nigh impossible! The little beggars are carb fiends!! There's no way I'd be able to meal plan.

Another spin class done for me today ✅

B: skimmed milk coffee
L: salad and soup
D: turkey, ham, stuffing, veg and a small roast potato Blush (I bought a boned and rolled turkey at Christmas and froze half as I didn't need it all)

I'll prob be over my allowance today but I've been exercising loads and eating ok so I'm going to treat myself Wink

PlanetoftheWood · 14/01/2020 12:06

Can anyone give any tips for using myfitnesspal for home cooked food? I often make a chilli/stew and just chuck in whatever veg I have in the fridge/freezer. It's a nightmare then to work this out and add it to myfitnesspal. Any tips?

beela · 14/01/2020 12:06

We've had a sick bug in our house this week. I've not had it (yet, eek) but it really does kill the appetite!

toasterstrudle · 14/01/2020 12:31

Has anyone discovered ten calorie jellies? The key lime pie one and a square of dark chocolate have done wonders for my evening snacking!!

toasterstrudle · 14/01/2020 12:33

@Twixes I'm doing semi low carb (aiming for under 100g a day although sometimes go iver)

Best way for me to still eat what the kids eat is to swap the carb for broccoli or cauliflower, sometimes mashed. I use frozen bags from tesco as then it takes any prep work out!

Suzie567 · 14/01/2020 13:26

It’s been day 1 of diet and I’m finding it tough. I just had one bite of my LO’s quiche and I feel like eating it all. He’s refusing to eat it and I really want to eat it.

DontFundHate · 14/01/2020 13:29

@PlanetoftheWood I can't work out my fitness Pal. I've just worked out the calories of meals I make regularly and wrote them all down. Im also using Tom kerridge's lose weight for good book as it has some nice recipes and all the calories worked out. Healthy food magazine this month has a whole section on portion sizes and calories too which I refer to a lot. I think tom has a section like that in the back of his book too.

Today's meals
B - scotch pancakes, low fat yog, berries
L - Scrambled eggs on toast
D - Cod and butter bean stew with chorizo (tom kerridge)
S - biscuit

Total 1300kcal

Suzie567 · 14/01/2020 13:31

@Patchworksack thanks for the link it seems interesting never heard of it before. It’s definitely my mood that stops me loosing weight and makes me comfort eat!

DontFundHate · 14/01/2020 13:31

@Suzie567 I think it's free calories when it's from the kids' plates surely Crown Wink

Was it you who asked about emotional eating? I've been trying to think of some advice as that would definitely be me. I find it best to just not have anything that I would eat loads of (looking at you Mr Kipling!) to avoid temptation altogether. I think that's literally the only thing that's worked for me

DontFundHate · 14/01/2020 13:33

In the past I could easily eat two or three boxes of Mr Kipling cakes if I was bored or sad. Now I just don't buy them. Ever. Even if I want to. And I do all my shopping online too which helps with that, just make sure to remove any temptations from your favourites too

TheHoundsofLove · 14/01/2020 14:44

I’m the same with chocolate biscuits Dont - there’s absolutely no way that I can allow a packet of chocolate hobnobs into the house! 😂
I’ve also been a terrible emotional eater in the past, but the thing that has really changed it for me is the realisation that time is going to pass anyway and I would much rather face the ups and downs of life feeling and looking my best. Eating is going to solve nothing. Weirdly, that realisation has totally stopped the urge for me.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 14/01/2020 16:10

I've found that I actually enjoy food much more when I have it in moderation. I'm on WW which really penalises you for sugar, so the mini dark chocolate with Himalayan salt that I had last night was extra satisfying. Whereas at Christmas I ate celebrations mindlessly and didn't particularly enjoy them.

I'm down 6lbs since the 27th December. I'm now 11 stone 1.6 to be precise. Grin I would love to be 9 stone something but the low tens are a good interim point. I'm 5'7.

Wineloffa · 14/01/2020 19:11

@Farontothemaddingcrowd I agree with you, smaller quantities of nice things are definitely more enjoyable. Maybe we savour them more?

Today I ate:

B- porridge and cinnamon
L- low fat hummus, rice cakes and slice smoked salmon
D- small slice veg quiche and garden peas

S- apple, banana, low fat yogurt

Drinks- 2 litres water, 2 coffees, mint tea

The only exercise I did today was yoga. Will make up for it tomorrow.

Patchworksack · 14/01/2020 19:58

ok day
L - salad, morrocan chickpeas, tuna
D - beef casserole, small serving of mash, green veg. Orange. 4 squares orange aero.

That's the first chocolate I have had since 1st Jan - enjoyed it and stopped at 4 squares (80 cals) and am now at my 8pm deadline so no more!

WellErrr · 14/01/2020 19:59

I agree Far.

I feel like I’ve eaten LOADS today but I’m still 80 calories under! Think I’m possibly just getting used to eating less!?

B - actimel (27cals) and banana (91 cals)
L - small portion of cottage pie with Loads of green beans and swedes instead of mash (495 cals)
D - jacket potato with tuna, bit of grated cheese and loads of salad (603cals - annoyingly bought sunflower oil tuna by mistake which doubled this calories..!)

Snack - a Freddo (95 cals)

I’m a bit stuck for a lunch idea tomorrow?

I’m in work, there’s a canteen but it’s quite stodgy (but yummy!!) and they do massive portions so I’ve been trying to avoid.

I haven’t made anything. There’s a fridge and microwave available but only half a hour to eat.

Ideas please? I was thinking small porridge pot with fruit but worried it won’t sustain me!?

@PlanetoftheWood do you create a recipe? I find this pretty easy to do. If you go to add food in your food diary, then along the top click on recipes. It will allow you to create the recipe. Add all the ingredients manually or you can import the recipe from the internet. Then you can decide how many portions it will serve and it works it out for you x

jelly79 · 14/01/2020 20:13

@Patchworksack is the 8pm food curfew helping??

I have got AF today but resisted the I can eat wherever I like because I'm a raging hormone feeling!

B - smoothie of oats, oat milk and espresso
L - chicken and barley soup, yoghurt. Lentil crisp
T - Chinese chicken, lots of salad, rice and coleslaw

Havent tracked it yet 😳

Suzie567 · 14/01/2020 20:20

@DontFundHate I think it's free calories when it's from the kids' plates surely. Lol!!

Day 1:
B - activia with handful of walnuts and cashews and 20 raisins (yup I counted them!). Coffee with skimmed milk
L - Tea and apple and 4 bites of bacon and cheese quiche
S - 8 cocktail Sausages
D - coffee with skimmed milk, plate of rice with lentil stew

I’m annoyed with myself for the quiche and cocktail sausages.

@jelly79 well done your day seems to be really healthy. I like the sound of chicken and barley soup
