Lots of activity this morning here! Hi everyone.
Sending lots of virtual hugs to @Vebrithien.
Aw @Trewser, I had the same when I was younger, my cat and I were pals so it was really sad for me when he passed away. Kept being a cat person though, we currently have two
@AdventureTravelDreamer that sounds interesting, which channel was the Tom Kerridge programme on?
Congratulations @DownUdderer and @MsTSwift really great losses!
It’s interesting how a lot of us have similar weight goals - I’ve also based mine on the upper end of the healthy BMI. At my slimmest (we’re talking many years ago, in my adolescence) I was 130lb, which is 9st 4lb. For my height that is in the upper half anyway of BMI, I’ve never been lower than that. I’m currently aiming for 145lb which is at the top end of healthy BMI for me but was also what I weighed pre-pregnancy, and I felt and looked good. Once I get there we’ll see if I gradually lose anymore (I’d like to get closer to 140lb so I’m not teetering on the edge of overweight if I have a big meal!), but that would be much more relaxed.
Weight looks so different on everyone, this isn’t meant to sound bragging at all (that’s very much not me!) but when I was slimmer if, for whatever reason, weight was discussed my friends didn’t believe me when I said my weight - as in, they thought it sounded too heavy. But I have an hourglass figure, gain most weight on my bum/hips/thighs, I don’t wear very fitted/tight clothes (I like feeling very comfortable, even in smart occasion clothes or office wear) and I dress for my shape. As a result my larger areas aren’t noticeable but I have a more noticeable waist and don’t gain loads on my arms and face (I do gain there ultimately, just not quickly, goes to the hips first!).
DH’s family are almost all apple shaped, incredibly slim on arms, legs, face but gain very easily around the waist, which can make you look bigger even though the rest of you is so slim. DH is very health conscious and has to keep his BMI under 23 in order for his waist/stomach to look normal, but has to do exercise to bulk his arms and legs slightly - not interested in being a body builder, he’s just looking for some proportion! The women in his family find it especially hard, I think because there is a perspective that women should have smaller waists, whereas men are sort of expected/normal to have a bit of a tummy. A number of them have struggled with eating disorders in the past as a result
thankfully not now though and they are all focused on health instead of just appearance now
