Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Anyone like to join me in 2020?

Just thinking how I still struggle with emotional eating but it is coming from not being allowed to eat as a child rather than food will make me feel better. I do sometimes think that but when I stop to think am I hungry I still have the panic that I can't eat.

fallfallfall · 28/01/2020 21:21

sunshine I hope you have a good support team on your journey. That sounds really challenging.
Can you tell me what mince is? I buy ground beef in Canada and it’s both graded by the quality of the animal AAA is the best standard then there is fat percentage regular/lean and extra lean. This would be a big help with my U.K. cooking challenge.

SunshineCake · 28/01/2020 22:23

I have always thought that mince and ground beef were the same thing. I mainly buy lamb mince but you can get beef, turkey and pork mince too. I use it for shepherds pie, lasagna and spaghetti bolognese.

Just tried to talk to dh but I'm too tired to make sense.

SheepSocks · 28/01/2020 22:27

Thank you @busteddreams

I've had a right kick in the proverbial balls, work have asked me to attend a black tie function on Saturday as one of my colleagues have fallen ill. I have nothing to wear! And I am still so overweight!

Just spent on a bomb on ASOS, I hope one of the 12 dresses I've ordered will fit.

More depressing thoughts, I need to lose more weight than what my toddler weighs.

I'm trying to channel some positive thoughts - maybe February will be the month the weight starts to really come off!

fallfallfall · 28/01/2020 22:34

sunshine may i suggest you write it down and reflect on this on another day? is this a new personal revelation?

MrsJonesAndMe · 29/01/2020 06:28

Morning

It sounds like you're up for the challenge @fallfallfall Here you can get % fat labelled on the minced beef so that may help?

That sounds like a tough dilemma @SunshineCake. Have you ever had CBT where you can look at your feeling and evaluate if it is factual? That may help. ie I feel hungry and I'm panicking because I can't get my hands on food. VS I'm hungry, but I have half an hour to go for my fasting window to open when I will enjoy XYZ for lunch. Or do you genuinely need to look at shifting your window? I eat 9:30-5:30. Don't think I could wait for lunch. Could you do brunch at 10:30 or 11 instead?

Keep going @SheepSocks. It takes time to put it on and unfortunately time to come off. Unlearning bad habits are really hard!

Have a good day all x

ilovetrees30 · 29/01/2020 07:36

Oh @SunshineCake it might be worth looking into cbt. I had some for my anxiety and depression last year and its really helped with controlling my emotions for the most part. This week I have had no control of my emotional eating and haven't lost a single ounce!!
My total weight for this final WoW in January is 6.25lb which is still good but I had hoped to reach the half a stone! I have noticed that it is sweet food I am craving so I am going to have a think about what I can replace the sweets/chocolate/biscuits with!

annabell22 · 29/01/2020 07:41

@sheepsocks I hope something fits and that you feel glamorous too. Nice hair, make up and jewellery will help you feel your best. You are on a journey and it takes time.

Weigh in Wednesday for me, I'm 600g down which is 2.1kg in total for January to date, 4.3kg overall. Anything over a pound makes me happy.

Skyejuly · 29/01/2020 07:48

I'm down 1lb. Really slowing down now!

2020newme · 29/01/2020 07:54

Wow

Starting Weight 12:9
Week 1 12:4 Loss 5lbs
Week 2 12:2 Loss 2lbs
Week 3 12:1 Loss 1lb
Week 4 12:1 STS
Total Loss 8lbs

Disappointed but after such a shitty few days following infected tooth extraction my diet has been a combo of mashed potato and ice cream whilst surgically attached to the sofa so I guess it's to be expected. Can't wait for January to be over, better weather, over the illness and get back on track.

@SunshineCake are you sure IF is the best thing for you? I was also kept hungry as a child (have mentioned my abusive childhood upthread) but I tell myself I can eat later and I have control. How much counselling have you had? Have you ever been on the "Stately Homes" thread on the Relationships board? Lots of empathy to be found there.

@SheepSocks I understand, but rather than focus on your appearance, which I am sure will be fab anyway, maybe focus on the fact that it was you who was specially chosen to represent your employer. Obviously they think you are great.

NorthernPowermouse · 29/01/2020 08:40

SunshineCake that sounds really tough. I don’t have any good advice like some of the others but sending hugs and support.

Sheepsocks 2020’s right. Your employer has chosen you for who you are so try to enjoy the night.

I’m joining WOW this week and am another pound down, taking me to 11st 2. That’s 12lb down in Jan which isn’t too bad.

Good luck to everyone else weighing in today!

Foreverlexicon · 29/01/2020 08:51

Well done to everyone who’s lost and keep pushing to everyone who hasn’t!

My day yesterday;
B - banana
L - wrap with cheese, Ham and salad and a packet of sunbites
D - chickpea and cauliflower curry
S - maltesers
E - 30 day shred and rode the horse

SunshineCake · 29/01/2020 11:34

@fallfallfall writing things down is a very good idea but my difficulties is when I think about writing down my bad experiences I fret as then it makes it real. I know rationally all these things did happen but somehow writing them down and reading...

About three years ago I realised that when I want to eat, when I know I'm not hungry, I thought I was saying up yours to the people who didn't let me eat when actually they had no clue and I was hurting myself in weight gain.

@ilovetrees30 a few years ago I bought the CBT book for dummies for something else but I couldn't get my head around it but I will take a look at it again. I have been having therapy since April so might understand it all better. Well done on your weight loss!

@2020newme are you wondering if IF fasting is right for me due to my childhood rather than the slow weight loss? I'm actually doing okay with the being hungry before my eating window starts because I don't want to give up yet. I struggle more after it closes but then usually as I've not eaten enough. My window closes at 8.30 but I really wanted something at 8.50 so while it wasn't a great choice (crisps) I enjoyed them and didn't beat myself up which is a Different kind of progress .

I did try and join in on the Stately Homes thread but found it very difficult to remember everyone's experiences to contribute and also only had a few words in reply to my post. Thank you.

@NorthernPowermouse thank you. Hugs can be just has important and relevant as words.

I weighed. I am 2lbs down from yesterday Shock.

Does anyone think a once a week weigh in would suit me better ? I tried that before but worry that's a few days to creep up if I don't keep an eye. I almost need the weigh in to keep me on track rather than constantly watch every morsel Confused.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 29/01/2020 13:44

Afternoon WoWers! I went back to work last week and have basically spent all my other time sleeping, I'm completely wiped out, haven't managed to read to keep up with the thread. 🙁

Plus side, going back to work has led to a 2lb loss this week, that's 9lbs for January. Given i spent the majority of it lay down, I'm over the moon with that.

Have a great day/week everyone.

BustedDreams · 29/01/2020 14:00

Oh my oh my @fallfallfall I wish I was nearer to where you are going to visit ... you’d be welcome to visit for much needed respite! I was lost at the brown lentil mush. I hope you do get to enjoy your grandchildren and make the most of the sight seeing.

Thank you @MrsJonesAndMe. The theatre was great. Had to abandon the visit to the Fish restaurant as they did not cater for gluten free. They could offer me a plain salad or a jacket potato ... no thank you.

WOW is 142.4lb
Last wk 142.8lb
Loss of 0.4lbs

I did show a small gain earlier this week but seen that off a little bit more as well. Hope people are happy with their own WoWs.

Laying low today as developing a crappy head cold. Can’t complain as swerved all the other virus’s of the season.

This might cross post as I started writing this post this am and only just got around to posting... sorry.

I didn’t bother weighing in this morning as my ring is tight, water weight obviously. I’ll do my best to flush out the salt from...homemade sauerkraut, dh ferments his own BUT on Tuesday was invited for lunch at a friends house (dh and I after a great 6km hike) for...sauerkraut SOUP. I gather it’s polish in origin but had amazing flavor. Anyway you guys get it. Salt

DrDiva · 29/01/2020 19:12

Hello everyone. I completely forgot to weigh this morning as am in the midst of a work crisis. Not mine, I hasten to add, but mine to help solve!

@fallfallfall that sounds horrible on the food front! You definitely need to escape to those friendly delis. If you told us some stuff you like to cook/eat, we could put together a British shopping list for you if that would help?

@SunshineCake I hope you are feeling ok tonight and can enjoy your evening.

Galvantula · 29/01/2020 21:14

I'm up from last Wednesday's 57.8 at 58.6kg. but that's better than over the weekend where I was right up to 59 (possibly more as I didn't weigh every day 🙈)

I think hopefully it's because TOTM is looming, so I'm probably just a bit bloated.

I'll keep plugging away anyway and hopefully be back down soon...

I've missed a couple of days posts so need to catch up. Hope everyone's having a good week.

Foreverlexicon · 29/01/2020 21:43

I’ve had a good day.

B - white roll with Dutch chocolate sprinkles
L - meal replacement bar
D - spag bol with salad
S - mango
E - long hard ride on the horse and 5km run

Nothing else to say really

SunshineCake · 30/01/2020 07:24

Morning all

I was just looking at my happy scale graph and had to get duh to explain stuff as I couldn't make head nor tails of bits of it. One thing looked really out of place and it turns out I put in one stone higher than I was Shock.

I do not understand how as I am now another two pounds down today.

Walking my dog then shopping. Will try and remember to go on the exercise bike today.

Hope everyone has a good day.

SheepSocks · 30/01/2020 09:49

I sent a long reply last night thanking all those who sent me lovely supportive words but my internet went strange and it refused to post.

I managed to get a nice black dress, my mother is turning it up for me as I'm a short arse ha ha.

I need to get back to the gym, I haven't been since last week 🙈

SunshineCake · 30/01/2020 10:04

Me too, @SheepSocks as I haven't been on the exercise bike for a few weeks.

BustedDreams · 30/01/2020 11:45

Just a quick update and question. Started IF last Thursday (23/01/2020).
Starting weight was 84.2kg. I weighed myself on Monday and I was 83.4kg and I weighed myself today (I know I shouldn’t have but couldn’t resist the urge) and I’ve gone up to 83.8kg. My periods due in 8 days, could the weight gain be due to that or is this something else ☹️. I know I’m not drinking nearly enough water as I should so I don’t know if that’s the cause of the weight gain. Anyone able to shed any light on this please?

MrsJonesAndMe · 30/01/2020 13:34

Hurrah @BustedDreams does that mean we've finally got to the end of the longest month ever???? Wink

I will be joining you to keep on track as I maintain. I've created a few good habits, but could do better with others, so I'm sure you lot will help.

Have a good evening all Flowers
