Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Anyone like to join me in 2020?

I'm definitely in and my goal is to get fitter as my lungs are bad and hope weight loss is a bonus.

I get disheartened when people post their weight and their too high is lower than my current one which is too high, but then I guess height makes a difference.

Ethiopianflower · 27/12/2019 16:56

I’m in too. I’m feeling positive even though I haven’t even started yet 🤣 but I am determined to change my bad habits and lead a healthier lifestyle and enjoy the benefits. Squeezed into my last hole in my belt buckle today but not going to buy a new one. Come 1st January I’m all in. Best of luck 😊

Creativebee · 27/12/2019 17:03

I’m in but not sure what to follow. I’m a member at a gym but haven’t been for 5 months (what a waste of money) because I’ve been making excuses about not having time but here I am chilling out on my bed Hmm. I can’t do calorie counting, I’ve tried but failed each time so I think the best way for me would be to just eat smaller portions and healthier foods. Struggling with breakfast as I always have to have biscuits to dip into my tea Blush. Here’s to healthier, sexy 2020

K1ngmarbs · 27/12/2019 17:11

I'm in, lowering my calories, keeping on with home workouts, upping water and steps. Have to get at least 4.5 stone off by ASAP this year to qualify for fertility referral so it's now or never for me. I am a stone down (or I was before the last few days!) going on holiday New Year's Day but will keep excess to a balance with walking as the clock is ticking although do want you properly enjoy! Good luck all

ilovetrees30 · 27/12/2019 17:28

I am also going to be focussing on my health and weight this year. I could do with losing a stone as a minimum. I go to the gym twice a week for a group pt session (when I'm not ill which does seem to be more and more frequent at the moment!). I am definitely aiming to go that third time a week from next week. My biggest issue is I am an emotional eater and my infertility struggles have been messing with my mental health. Going to try and aim for more vegetarian meals and more protein and less carbs. I tried to meal plan and shop accordingly which worked for a while but then I fell off the bandwagon. Although I don't look overweight I feel big in my self and the scales definitely suggest otherwise!

BustedDreams · 27/12/2019 17:41

Welcome back @SunshineCake, fingers crossed for a better time of it for you.

@Ethiopianflower the belt test is a good motivator Grin You’ve come to right place.

@Creativebee I don’t know what other responsibilities you have but could you try ‘diarising’ your gym sessions? Eating smaller portions sounds a good start. Have you thought of timed restrictive eating or intermittent fasting. I myself generally eat between 12:30 - 18:30 each day. I naturally can’t face food in a morning so it’s relatively easy for me. If you gave it a try you wouldn’t need to think of breakfasts. I try to eat protein at lunch & dinner to help with satiety. Good luck what ever you choose.

@K1ngmarbs you’ve made a great start and you have such a significant motivation in aiming for your fertility treatment. We are all behind you!

@ilovetrees30 welcome eating, food choices and mental health are all intwined. Emotional Eating can sabotage the best efforts. Hope the link helps. BTW great user name, I love trees too Grin

I think a food window might be good for me though sometimes it gets to eight and I haven't eaten something I felt like. I feel less hungry than I used to but makes no sense why I'm not losing weight. Extra periods don't help.

MrsJonesAndMe · 27/12/2019 20:06

Hi, I'm certainly in and Intermittent fasting will be the way to go. I was at goal last week, but with the Christmas holidays, I'm guessing I might have a bit of work after Blush Grin

Creativebee · 27/12/2019 20:11

intermittent fasting sounds good, I’m going to research it using the links above. I’ve told DH that I really want to commit to times at the gym so he’s going to give me his work schedule well in advance so I have no excuses. Need to lose 33kg so it’s going to take a lot of determination and commitment.

twopintsprick · 27/12/2019 21:10

I'm in - have around 3-4 stones I need to lose ... will be calorie counting and upping my exercise (and hoping for a miracle Wink)

ilovetrees30 · 27/12/2019 21:49

I thought about trying intermittent fasting but a few places have said you shouldn't do it if TTC so not sure whether to risk it or not.

Karcheer · 27/12/2019 22:09

I’ve read it’s not good for women as our bodies need different nutrients at different times due to our cycles. But good for men as it maps well to the original hunter gatherer lifestyle.

SunshineCake · 27/12/2019 22:17

@Karcheer does that mean the intermittent eating plan tells you what to eat and not just when ?

Karcheer · 27/12/2019 22:49

When. I read that women shouldn’t fast because our bodies are complex, we need nutrients consistently because hormones are sensitive to food intake. By restricting food it can cause hormonal imbalancing which is obviously not good if breast feeding or ttc etc, but generally isn’t good for women at all. As men’s hormones don’t fluctuate like ours do, it’s more straightforward and less harmful for them.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/12/2019 22:54

I’ve not heard that in any of my reading about intermittent fasting (mostly with a gut microbe focus) I’m not worried about doing it whilst TTC, I’ll be doing Fast 800 with a focus on veggies, fibre and healthy fats at the same time.

Hi I’m in. Lost a stone on Fast 800/BSD at the start of 2019, now going for the next stone, also TTC.

fallfallfall · 28/12/2019 00:00

checking in :)

BustedDreams · 28/12/2019 00:24

I suppose the silver lining with being post menopause and having no ovaries is my bio identical oestrogen gives me a consistent dose every day.

The hormone that has slowed my weight loss is thyroxine. Still titrating up in trying to get the correct dose. Have you had your thyroid blood test @SunshineCake ? Earlier this year you could see my weight continue to creep up and I was eating 800/1000 cals a day (aka Michael Mosley blood sugar diet) so I knew something was up. I had to badger GP over 4 visits in 6 months to put me on a trial (after 1st blood test showed sky high antibodies and under active thyroid).

@MrsJonesAndMe welcome friend. You’ll soon get back to goal. That is unless you’ve eaten your own weight in chocolate Grin

@twopintsprick you’ll do it! Really you will. When I’m at goal I will have lost 3 stone. It’s doable. Think of it as a life style change rather than a diet. I’m on point 80% of the time with the odd treat (Hopefully all within calorie allowance)

I think the ladies who are ttc need to do their research around diet/methods to make sure they don’t inadvertently scupper their endeavours. I will be honest I never felt better than when I clean eat, low carb in a timed eating window/Intermittent Fasting. Research suggests it helps keep Blood Sugars balanced as your insulin isn’t being constantly triggered.

Different people will be at different life stages and I totally their nutritional needs will differ. That’s why I advocate for people getting informed and following what they know will work for them. We are all wanting the same thing but will take differing paths.

@BuffaloCauliflower sounds like you’ve sorted yourself a plan in which you know works for you. Congrats on your stone loss 🌟 and hoping further congrats will be in order soon.

I started slimming world in july last year and lost 2st 2lbs before christmas
Since then i have gained 3 lbs back
I weigh 21st and 0.5lbs currently

DownUdderer · 28/12/2019 03:29

I’m signing in from the December thread :)

Foreverlexicon · 28/12/2019 05:51

Hello!
I am back. Apologies for going AWOL, I had a major downturn which led to some problems in my relationship and I frankly had a bit of a breakdown. All recovered, figured some stuff out with the GF and we’re on the same page now and life is good.
I have eaten everything for the last few weeks and I’m actually gasping to eat proper healthy food that makes me feel good.

I have been toying about what to do with my eating habits. I don’t want to do anything extreme as it triggers me but I also want to feel good about myself. I think rather than focusing on losing weight, I just want to get myself into habits which make me feel good and weight loss should be a happy side effect of that.

Mainly I’m just going to focus on eating better and moving more by setting small goals each month. I’m not sure if I’m going to weigh myself or just go off how my clothes fit as I find scales quite triggering and my work uniform is very unforgiving so it’s a pretty useful indicator anyway!

January goals

  • Beat 2019s running KM total
  • Eat my 5 a day
  • Stop buying lunch/cappuccinos out at work

I do have a couple of events coming up - NYE celebrations obviously, weekend away for GF’s birthday and her actual birthday. Events can be a trigger for me and I panic and binge in the lead up and it never ends up being that bad so I’m also going to aim not to do that.

Well. Like the sound of intermittent fasting so shall take a look at the link. I've
