Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

@BustedDreams - sadly my knees are way bigger than my boobs! I too gain weight really quickly and you are right we were twins on a previous month. Hopefully we will both be rapid losers in 2020.Smile

FiveShelties · 01/01/2020 09:28

@ilovetrees30 - the threads have been amazing, very supportive and no judgement which I think is fantastic. We all follow different plans, have different exercise routines and are all different weights and wanting to lose different amounts - good luck with your journey.

NorthernPowermouse · 01/01/2020 09:32

I was 12 stone exactly. I’ll weigh weekly so I don’t get disheartened if I go up one day...hopefully next week I should have lost something.

I’ve spent my morning cooking turkey and veg curry, butternut squash and red pepper soup and a vegan chilli. Hopefully that should help keep me on track.

Selfsettling3 · 01/01/2020 09:56

Hi everyone, I need to lose 4 stone to get back into the healthy bmi range. I have a breast feed baby so I need to do it slowly and sensibly. My baby will still only sleep on someone and I have a 3 year old so I have limited ability to do exercise.

I’m planning on introducing a small change every week not all weight loss related. Last week I moisturised my body every day and feel much better for it. This week I’m going to stop snacking mostly that has been mindlessly munching biscuits.

ishugio · 01/01/2020 10:00

Happy new year everyone.

Yesterday was my first chocolate free days in years. This is quite an achievement for me.

I'm really struggling to squeeze myself into clothes at the moment. Everything is far to tight and I am extremely self conscious of my fat hanging over my jeans.

Let's have a good day all.

ishugio · 01/01/2020 10:05

@Selfsettling3

I moisturised all over after my shower this morning. It really makes such a difference doesn't it. Small things!

JBCG · 01/01/2020 10:25

Happy New Year everyone!

BustedDreams · 01/01/2020 10:33

@ilovetrees30 I’m pleased you braved the scale. I had a similar shock at the start of my transition. Totally shocked me into action. Now it onwards & downwards and I know you can do it too! Pledge to read/post each day as it will help!

@FiveShelties I’ve 34 GG boobies so I’m pleased my knees are bigger than those beasties! Grin Yes I’m all for losing it, although from previous experience, alas it won’t be a fast transition.

@NorthernPowermouse sounds very healthy. I’ve all my stuff out of fridge to make soup. Will make after walking the dogs.

@Selfsettling3 welcome and congrats on your baby. There are a few mums to babies on here, so you’re not alone on being up against it iyswim. I also moisturise after showering bathing. Self care is so important and your right, it’s the little things that count too.

@ishugio well done! It’s a great feeling isn’t it when we resist the chocolate.

Happy New Year!

I went to a party last night but didn't drink (so grateful this morning!) but did eat a few of the lovely snacks on offer, and past my IF shutdown time!

I have STS since weighing myself on Sunday so start 2019 on 12:9:6

Waves to @SunshineCake - we can do this!!!

2020newme · 01/01/2020 10:39

@BustedDreams - you are my boob twin!!! Grin

I would love to get down a cup size or four, but they are always the last thing to shrink Angry They make me look so matronly!!

cherrytree63 · 01/01/2020 10:40

Is there room for one more?
In 2015 I lost 3 1/2 stone very quickly by tackling the psychological aspect of being a greedy cow Grin and by loosely following the low carbs boot camp on here.
I kicked sugar/ chocolate/ biscuits etc cravings . The faster I saw the weight loss the more motivated I became.
I hiked, HIIT, lifted weights and took up running.
Long story short life got in the way in the last year or so, and some bad habits crept in, too many ready meals and carbs, then the chocolate habit took hold again and I stopped exercising.
I'm a daily weigher as I think in these days of stretchy jeans by the time they're too tight you're in trouble!
I got complacent as the scales only went up by 7lbs and I was thinking it's not too bad as I'm eating whatever I wanted.
Until I went to pull on some old non stretchy jeans and couldn't get them over my thunder thighs and a jacket that I wore last year cut off the circulation in my arms!
So I started low carbing last Friday, cold turkey on crap, just trying to motivate myself into starting an exercise plan again.
Currently 9St 11 and feeling a bit deflated that after 5 days low carbing I haven't lost anything, previously I lost 2/3lbs every week.
I've never been a big portion eater, more a grazer, I can't eat chocolate or biscuits in moderation so it's best for me to avoid completely, I'm a very occasional drinker.
I'm never hungry until about 1pm but sometimes have a banana mid morning as it helps settle my reflux. Then dinner at some point between 6 and 8 pm so quite naturally 16:8 which is a bonus!
It's the after dinner munchies that are my downfall.

SunshineCake · 01/01/2020 10:50

@BustedDreams. I realised that after. Sorry Blush. I'm a bit pathetic when I feel left out. I blame my childhood but it's embarrassing at my age.

Had a rubbish start to the year but it's only day one. It has to get better.

Happy New Year everyone!

Winecheesesleep · 01/01/2020 11:17

Happy New Year all! I woke up with a bit of a hangover today, really keen to start the year much healthier.

I was debating with myself whether to log everything in MFP or freestyle it and try and encourage myself to just eat less and more healthily. In the end I've decided to log as I think I'm more likely to be honest with myself then.

I've already turned down a bacon sandwich so off to a good start Grin

BustedDreams · 01/01/2020 11:21

@2020newme I identify with the ‘matronly’ look ... hate it too! Even when I was a small size in my teens I had relatively big boobies. Seen to go up a size every few years.

@cherrytree63 hop on board Grin I totally agree with a lot of what you wrote and I’m similar in your ways. Especially not wanting food in the am. I just can’t stomach it. Always wake feeling overfull and a little bit nauseous (even though I haven’t over eaten the day before). I’m a natural 18:6. It’s no effort tbh. However tre on its own for me doesn’t work. I still need to be mindful of cals & content and I fair better on low carb. I very rarely drink. Last night I had the smallest sip of the smallest measure of a coffee liqueur as my oh wanted to share a new year toast. Yes it’s the after dinner munchies that tease & tempt me. I make a ritual of cleaning and closing the kitchen after our last meal. It does help. I think late in the day munchies is sugar/insulin related. When I’m on point and sugar/carbs low they don’t feature as much. You’ve come to the right place Smile

@SunshineCake no apologies needed lovie. You’re cool. I hope you have a better day today. Share and post if it helps. You know these boards support the emotional side of life too.

BustedDreams · 01/01/2020 11:23

@Winecheesesleep Happy New Year. If you can manage it I’d go for logging. Freestyle it would be too easy to over eat and under estimate. Imo.

OP posts:
Winecheesesleep · 01/01/2020 11:28

@BustedDreams yes I think you're right, will keep going with the logging. Thanks for setting up this thread, it seems like a nice supportive place.

Binting · 01/01/2020 12:01

HNY everyone. I’m going to join. I’ve weighed in today at 175lb, 5’ 3” and officially in the obese bmi category (age 53). This thread is very inspiring. Half way through reading posts I got the urge to empty the crap out of my fridge, freezer and cupboards. There are no biscuits, crisps or chocolate left. I’m actually going to do WW purple plan which allows wholemeal rice, pasta and potatoes (I know there’s a WW thread but I prefer this one). I’m going to give the plan 3 months and see how I go. My target is 50lbs in 12 months. I’ve also joined Les Mills on Demand as I love bodypump and I also plan to jump on the exercise bike I got for Christmas for at least 30 mins a few times a week while watching Friends or something.

sophieg345 · 01/01/2020 12:59

Happy new year guys! I'm all ready to start tomorrow 🤞🏻 aiming for 5lb the first week (bigger lady so should come off fast I've heard at the start)

Lionso · 01/01/2020 14:37

Happy New Year everyone!

Last night was the first New Years with zero alcohol for me, in like... um a verrrrry long time!

Onwards and downwards (scale-wise)!

SunshineCake · 01/01/2020 15:58

@2020newme hello Smile. I was pleased I was the same this morning as yesterday as we had party food and a small liqueur last night.

My dd is into fitness so she is going to be on my case with my request. We all just went for a walk with the dog which was lovely as that doesn't happen often. DH has left now to wait at his parents to take them to hospital to pick up my BIL and take him home. It's looking like he has had a heart attack.

I haven't read up on IF yet but if it is eat in an eight hour window then I planned to do that but then this morning I felt very sick after the dog walk so ate something. DH felt I was feeling nauseous due to being hungry but I didn't feel hungry Confused. It felt bleurgh due to the pain of a headache and I have another one now.

SunshineCake · 01/01/2020 15:59

Thank you @BustedDreams. I dropped my phone on my foot this morning so it's been painful since half eight.

MrsJonesAndMe · 01/01/2020 16:17

Hi, I'm here @BustedDreams. Got on the scales and I have gained 3lbs over the holiday. Not to bad considering I was at my target.

Today has been all about the water. No more Coke. We also went for a reasonable walk and now I'm hoping that with all the visitors behind me, I can get back to doing my yoga every evening. I did still do it often, but not daily.

Between now and Tuesday, I will be aiming to reduce my eating window - at least got a 13 hour "fast" in there rather than just eating all my waking hours Blush. Tonight is a lovely beef stew with potato cobblers. I wanted a stir fry really, but never mind. Lots of veg too!

Thanks for all your hard work setting us up for great things, @bustedDreams and hello to all the new faces. Welcome back to @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa and @Foreverlexicon and I'm sure there are more....

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 01/01/2020 16:34

Afternoon all,

I weighed myself this morning, so I had a vague idea of where I was up to. Haven't weighed since Oct. I was half a stone less than I'd guessed so I'm reasonably happy.

I'm not starting off to intensely, I'm technically still in recovery, I start physio next week and I'm hoping she will ok some light exercise on my spin bike. I also refuse to waste any food so will work my way through the freezer contents that aren't technically SW friendly while minimising on the snacking etc.

Full disclosure - I'm eating a pizza as I type this and I don't feel at all guilty. My mindset is completely different and I'm so unbelievably happy to have survived 2019.

Good luck to every single one of you.

BustedDreams · 01/01/2020 16:46

Welcome @Binting . The beauty of this thread is it’s flexibility. Everyone is encouraged to do what they know works for them. For those unsure there is enough generic advice and support to get people started. Your target of 50lbs is bang on working out about 1lb loss a week. Nice and steady!

Hi @sophieg345 great that you’ve made a start. Don’t become despondent if you don’t make the 5lb, any loss is welcome. How are you doing it?

@Lionso Happy New Year and well done! Feels great to wake without an hangover doesn’t it Grin

@SunshineCake I get those headaches/nauseous sensations in the am. I’m sure it’s hormone/look sugar/insulin related. In regards to your phone dropping on your foot ... how big is your phone 😮😆

@MrsJonesAndMe you’ll soon see the back of that gain, I’m sure of it. Your stew sounds delicious 😋

I’m sure I've ‘seen’ @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa and @Foreverlexicon somewhere ....

Today’s been a good and it’s ended up being OMAD. I had put veg for soup to roast whilst we walked the dogs. Got chatting on route. By the time we got back I thought I might as well start main meal (finished the soup for the next 2 days) of pork and veg tray bake. Lovely it was. Just about to clean and close kitchen. I can feel an early night with a book I had bought me for Christmas coming on Grin
