Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Went off the rails this weekend. DS 3 on Saturday big house party. No rules kept, wine sausages pizza. Today couldn't go to the gym had to clean 'after party' house and garden. Sandwiches for lunch. Lovely pork roast dinner at a friend house. Hope I haven't undone a lot of work. Back on form tomorrow. Will give you the scores on the door then

Hi, Starbear, so you had to clean the house and the garden - that's exersise. it's more then most of us did in the weekend, I'm sure. I also had roast for lunch - beef, couliflower and parsnips, for dinner- a can of sardines on olive oil - tried to remove as much oil as i could with a chopped tomato. it's hard to be good in the weekend when everybody is eating chocolates and buiscuits or if you have friends over or you are invited. In many books I read they say keep it 80 % and you are allowed 20 % of coming off the diet. Anyway, we don't want to deprive ourselves all the time, at least i don't.

Starbear · 07/10/2007 21:43

Thanks sweetheart but I went downstairs just now to make a cup of tea and had a mini milkyway and star things from the left over goody bags. Back on track tomorrow. I have 17 days A/L going to plan a sort of home spa day. On Ds whole day nursery I'm going to work out almost all morning then a healthy (packed?) lunch then a massage eyebrows and hair. I'll ask DH if its okay as it's my birthday soon.

starbear i went off the rails too!
went to a conference yesterday they served lasagne/pasta with bread and salad.
Merangue with cream and strawberries and morning and afternoon coffee with cake sorry couldn't resist
Out for the day today had a coissant came back to beef stew and dumplings(in slowcooker) lots of veg though.
i will have to start a fresh tomo

fedda · 07/10/2007 22:10

Starbear, I like your idea of massage.
I just boiled my kettle but I'm going to have 9i hope0 hot water with lemon and you know what - you've mentioned tidying up your house and i went in my kitchen and washed the floor. That's my excersise for now. Hopefully I'll dance for 20 minutes later - everybody is on bed - it's time for me. I just say your starting massage - excersise alone never worked for me so I need to be careful with my food. I was dieting when I was 15 and i've lost a lot of weight then but i was much younger and I was mad about ballet, that motivated me a lot. i used to walk for 3 hours 3 times a week and i was doing ballet excersises. i developed all tricks to trick my mum who was very much against my idea to loose weight. She used to give me temos flask with hot food and she doesn't know to this day that i was never eating it and i had 2 glasses of tomato juice instead. The trick is not just to loose weight, we can all do it but to keep the weight at the right level so we have to make a commintment for life with some exeptions for special occasions and when we just can't do it. I think we shouldn't blame ourselves when we can't because if we do we are more likely to get fed up and give up. Anyway, good luck to everybody. We should keep trying our best. i personally can't prase enough the idea of 10 fruit and veg a day and in spite of the fact i can't always have all 10 i do try and it feels me up preventing from having all these other foods (I don't want to mention, we all know them).

Starbear · 07/10/2007 22:29

Oh for the days of old. In my teens I had a boyfriend and did not have dinner when I was seeing him as we had dinner at 8pm and when I got to his house, only up the road his family had dinner at 6pm so I didn't eat. Then at 21 years old I was in my 'Jane Fonda' phase. Worked in a video shop that another boyfriend's father owned. As business was in the evening. I went Tuesday & Thursday to ladies morning at the Leisure centre. Two aerobics lessons, weight training in between then a swim then cycled home. Running club and other clubs, cycled every where. No money no kids but tons of time. Fit as a fiddle and never need to diet as I only wanted to be size 10 and make friends in a new village. Now job kid cuddly DH. If I could just have Tuesday and Thursdays back. 2 years is a long time maybe not 3 years has flown by.

Yes, i get the picture. oh, well, we all have to use some diet plans and forse ourselves to do some kind of excersies. The good thing is the support we can get. I don't think I could do it without the discussions and excanging of tips. Thank you everyone who is still here.

Fimbles5 · 08/10/2007 08:14

Well it looks like we've all had a bad weekend
I ate a huge bag of doritos, whilst downing half a bottle of wine, on Saturday night, and then had a massive dinner on Sunday when the in-laws came round. I hope I haven't totally ruined the success so far.
The main thing for all of us is to get back on it today. Think and stay motivated, 11 weeks until Christmas, that is another 11lbs we could all lose on average. We will do this together.

fedda · 08/10/2007 11:55

I totally agree. Let's all do this together.

Starbear · 08/10/2007 16:30

2nd that. Back on course. Fedda, a couple of posts ago you posed the question about losing weight from your face. Look at Times 2
newspaper today! Or www.timesonline.uk titled 'Your face or your bottom' something to do with eating soya products, liver and portein with every meal. Hope this is what you wanted. Three year old driving me nuts must go and play or feed him!

Drat 71 kgs not to good. But back on track went running (jogging really) tonight instead of walk and run and did 3 miles. Hope for me still.

Fimbles5 · 09/10/2007 07:38

Please help. I need some motivation to get back on track. I had a really bad weekend, and now seem to be spiralling out of control again. Why does this always happen to me? I always seem to do really well for a few weeks, hence 9.5lbs loss in 3 weeks, and then binge eat and pile it all on again. I don't want this to happen this time, but I seem to be going downhill. HELP!!

Starbear · 09/10/2007 18:19

Fimbles5, Sweetheart, Feel for you (and myself ) What is going on around you when you get it right? How does it work for you? On the 27.09.07 you posted you were feeling great as you just ran 6 miles for Cancer Research 'biggest achievement'You sounded really up beat. Does running help you feel good about yourself and more in control? Can you go running more often? Not easy to do with kids, granted. Who did you run with? Tell me more so we can work this through together.

Hi, Starbear, unfortunately your link didn't work and i've tried to find it using different way but couldn't. Actually I don't want to loose weight of my face, there is nothing to loose there. My face is skinny and it looks terrible. I feel I aged in one year as if 8 years passed! i was trying to find some ways of looking younger and not ill, every time i loose a bit of weight my face suffers badly. my face gets slimmer, my legs a bit slimmer and my tummy stays the same big. You get the picture.

Fimbles5, i feel for you. I have the same problem after few month giving up on sugar having a cup of coffee with 2 sugars! well, I don't have 4 cups as before but still I know I'll pay a big price for this but sometimes I just can't make myself doing it. may be I'll try tomorow without it but I loved my coddee today! I had it with unsalted nuts, not biscuits but still.

Fimbles5 · 10/10/2007 08:14

Starbear & Fedda - Thankyou so much for the sympathy and support. Jogging makes me feel fab, I finally thought I had found a form of exercise which suited me. I ran 2-3 times a week with a group of friends. Unfortunately, after the cancer research run, the girls changed their routine and decided to run in the mornings, as the nights were too dark. I still try to go at the weekend, but have not been going during the week. I just can't explain what goes wrong, as soon as I begin to feel good about myself, I begin to binge eat. You would not believe the amount of rubbish I ate yesterday
It is as if I am obsessed with food, but I so want to do this. at myself!!
I am due to weigh in tomorrow morning and I have just had a sneak preview at the scales and am horrified to find that I have put on at least 4lbs in the last few days. I am now debating whether to even go and weigh in, I am so ashamed.
Anyway, sorry for the negative post, you are all doing so well and I am sure you can do it!! Thankyou for the help and guidance X

fedda · 10/10/2007 11:21

Fimbles, unfortunately we all have bad days when we just can't go on eating the stuff we are supposed to eat. I think what we can do is finding the things that inspire us and enjoy our food. I watch amazing recipy on TV and I decided to cook it yesterday. My DH doesn't like tomato sauce with meat or chicken but this time he loved it. i just post the recipy in case you might be interested. Brown chicken pieces without skins (oh, well, I did mine with the skin as I adore skiny bits) in 2 teaspoons of oil, remove (I put mine in the oven so they continued to cook), put cliced onion and cook until lightly brown, add cliced red or yellow pepper, stir, sliced button mushrooms, stir, let it cook, add chopped garlic clove, after a minute add 1/2 a cup of white wine, let it simmer so it reduces to half, add a can of plum tomatoes chopped without their skins with their juice, a teaspoon of oregano. some red pepper (I didn't have so I used some paprica), a bit of salt and cover with the lid and cook for 20 minutes. The lady who cooked it (sorry I can't remember her name0 said that it's best prepared in advance and then heated up so I put it for cooling and then reheated it in my oven for about 15 to 20 minutes. My DH had it with rice but i just had it as it was. I loved it and i knew it was very healthy and nutritious. At the moment I'm going to have my soup packed with different vegies with herbs and spices added. I think we just need to experiment and if we have good quality meals we wouldn't be interested in rubbish, at least not too often. Good luck to all of us.

Starbear · 10/10/2007 22:32

Fimbles, I know what you mean, you have a routine your happy with it then other people go and change, this puts you back to square
one.I did go spinning this evening. But I feel a cold coming on typical! Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Chat to people around you and see if they can change back to the evenings. Find out if a local club do a slow jogging group for beginners or speed walking. My group are called Stragglers, little feet. Go to the local leisure centre and see whats on offer that can replace the run. You know all this I'm sure. Try no carbs in the evening it's slowly working for me and I don't have to think just potatoes, noodles bread and pasta. It's surprising how quickly you get used to it.
Fedda, I might still have the article. It wasn't to lose weight from you face but to preserve it buy eating things like soya and liver. It was on Times online. I'll try and dig it out.(Too long I know)

OP posts:
kidsrus · 10/10/2007 23:32

fimble like starbear said there is most likely a running club nearby they will have information on races you could enter to keep your ethusiasm up.
i would love to be able to run but for some reason my legs won't agree to it.
i would also end up with two black eyes as my chest is too large
hooray!!!!!! i lost another pound slowly but surely

fedda · 10/10/2007 23:53

Congratulations, kidsrus! Thank you, Starbear. God luck, fimbles and all of us. No dance yesterday or today - spine pain. No carbs after 5 is a good idea - you just need to stay away from some carbs, not all of them - potatoes, rice, pasta, bread and cereal is not recommended but almost all fruit and veg is. It's a very nice book as well with some good recipies.

Fimbles5 · 11/10/2007 07:30

Thanks to you all, what would I do without you!! Anyway, you all sound so positive, so I am going to drag myself to the weigh in today. I can but hope things may not be as bad as they seem, but I will let you know later what damage I have done over the past few days. But I have decided to draw a line under my bad week, and I start again today. at all of you who are doing so well. Keep it up!!

fedda · 11/10/2007 11:46

Fimbles, I couldn't do any dancing yesterday and the day before yesterday and probably not today - back pain. We all have bad days but support helps and we'll achieve our goals one day and then we'll need even more support to keep it up.

fedda · 14/10/2007 22:48

How are you doing? I'm still trying my best having ups and downs. It's so empty without you all.

meandmy · 14/10/2007 22:55

hi all you inspiring weight losers! i need to loose weight for the first time in over a year a dug the scales out and i have tipped in at higher weight than i was at 9months pg so horified and need to loose it im not good at the eating thing have started execising but slowly i intend to loose 2lb a week is this possible, how do i do it without disrupting life to much as i have 16mo dd! thanks in advance

fedda · 14/10/2007 23:42

Would you like to try the ideas of Joanne Hall no carbs after 5 PM? You need to avoid after 5PM rice, pasta, bread, potatoes and cereals, not all carbs.

meandmy · 15/10/2007 00:40

dont think that would work for me might give it a try. thanks
