Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

are chickpeas supposed to be hard?
i soaked for a day and half cooked for hours in a casserole and they still tasted hard and flourie.
well done everyone! i lost another pound(slowly but surely).
I love soup and rarely have bread with it as i have a yeast intolerance.
sometimes have soda bread instead.

fedda · 01/10/2007 21:29

I usually use chickpeas from the can but when I cooked it from scratch some time ago it was nice. Yes, you soak it overnight and cook it for few hours, it's a long wait. I had soup twice - for lunch and dinner 0 just bought 2 packets of Covent garden and added dsome cooked chicken, red pepper and spring onions. I really enjoyed it. I also had a cup of tea later making my DS to giggle as i put pieces of apple in it - trying to avoid sugar. The other day i made my tea with pieces of dry apricots. Anything to avoid the sugar which I adore in tea and coffee

Starbear · 01/10/2007 22:20

Hi all, Chickpeas. My Mum cooks chickpeas every week. I use a can, much to her disgust. I can never remember her strange rules. But I do know she's very fussy about the brand. I think they have to be from Spain. I'll ask her tommorow. Fedda, well done on the tea. I still have 1/2 tsp can't live without it and tea's too wet without a biscuit or cake. I'm going to work harder on this next week. Missed today's run too much house work and work work

Oh, Starbear, just do some dancing, it's so much fun. i did yesterday and I was so relactant to start but once I've started I really loved it. With my tea i now have a cut up apple or any other fruit I fancy. I make fruit salad with kiwi, grapes, apples, strawberries, anything you have, Please, try to avoid buiscuits. They made me fat. I used to have 6 buiscuits every night with my tea and burbons were my favourite. I simply couldn't have enough of them and you know what, I used to have this feeling as if something was nocking in my body. It's as if there was a signal: too much, but would I listen? i've paid a high price for it. Please, don't repeat my mistakes. I tottally took the buiscuits and cakes out. They are my enimies now.you know, I can even have pieces of a carot with my tea. I just have to have spmething but it doesn't have to be these buiscuits or chocolates ot both. If i have an ice-cream I nees 3! it's just awful. It's easier for me not to have it at all then to have 1. The same goes for fruit yougurts. Anyway, I'm off to have some water and a dance session.

fedda · 01/10/2007 23:29

Unfortunately I could only do 10 minutes. I have sharp pain in my ribs so i better stop. Good night everyone.

fedda · 02/10/2007 21:42

Hi, everyone. How are youall/ Have you achieved your goals and that's why you are not posting anything or are you disapointed? it's a shame our thread is not active, i can see so many others but I really like ours. i'm still battling with my tummy and I'm fed up with all the healthy eating. I crave for my coffee with 2 sugars and buiscuits really badly. i had tea with drawn apricots in it and pieces of apple instead. Had grapes for breakfast, 2 chicken legs with avocado and tomato salad, also chicken pieces for dinner with sweet potato, carot and dry apricots. My drink for dinner was water and I still don't know if it's a good choice with the meal. had apples and grapes for snacks and resisted everything in McDonalds when i went there with the kids. I'm hoping to dance in a minute, a bit scared whether I'll have the pain in my ribs again. My health is rubbish. i've lost 1 inch of my waist and i can put my trousers without feeling dizzy now so there is some positive thing - it took me 1 nonts or so to achieve just that.

Fimbles5 · 03/10/2007 11:24

fedda - I have not deserted you!! I am here listening to what you are eating in the hope I can get some new ideas. Tell yourself you are doing really well. The fact you are losing inches proves just that. I try to set myself small goals, but think ahead (does that make sense??) i.e. I would like to lose 1lb per week up until Christmas, so by Christmas I will be 12lb lighter than I am today.
Just following your stories, gives me some of the motivation I need, so when you crave that coffee with sugar and biscuits, join me on mumsnet for a chat instead. Weigh in tomorrow, so will let you know how things are going here.

kidsrus · 03/10/2007 22:32

had my usual today
muesli s/s milk
salad with l/f mayo and ham, 1 apple
roast chicken with steamed veg and home made gravy
merangue nest with strawberries and l/f creme fresh.
snack tonight was snack a jacks popcorn.

i have also found a honey & seed bar in sains which is only 2 points but feels incredibly naughty

fedda · 03/10/2007 22:55

I've only lost 1 inch after soooo much effort and i knoe once I start eating chocolate or having my teas and coffees with buiscuits it will take me 2 weeks to gain it all back. it's not fair! I do it all with such a big effort and I'm bored with all this food. i want all the naughty foods - yes, it makes me happier in spite of what Jason Vale says. I'm so used to treating myself with food when I'm happy and when I'm unhappy - you get the picture. I was sooo hungry half an hour ago so I had 3 apples, 8 grapes and some tosted almond flakes dreaming of a ham sandwich. poor, poor me and poor us. The things we have to do. And all our slim friends enjoying their chocolate cakes and never putting any weight. my DH sais it's all down to genetics and nothing i can do. i hope i can. I love this thread. I'm hoping to do some dancing - missed it yesterday.

kidsrus · 03/10/2007 23:19

fedda don't they say its better to eat more than less!
so unlimited fruit & veg can't be wrong just limit the meat.
also have some choc or things you crave but in small amounts.
i have a square of 70% coco if i feel like choc,or bag of popcorn/snack a jacks instead of crisps.
museli/oat bar instead of biscuits or seeds instead of nuts.

kidsrus · 03/10/2007 23:22

forgot to say i try to replace t&c for fruit t or l/f hot choc
keepit up girls you all doing well

Starbear · 04/10/2007 08:08

Hi just a quick word as I should be going out the door to work. I have lost some weight not as much as I would like but my work trousers are feeling loose which is a good sign. I had a crap day Team building. To the point during the lunch I had a little cry. I really, really REALLY hate my job.
The walk was good for the figure but the lamb shanks with mash, two glasses of wine then trifle wasn't so good. Went to spinning class yesterday and I might do a fitness DVD tonight. Girls (I assume we are all girls) slowly but surely we will get there by Christmas.

OP posts:
fedda · 04/10/2007 12:10

I hope so. I just wonder how long will it take me to loose all the extra kg I've gained during my second pregnancy? i'm not asking much - I used to weight much less for a long time, why can't i go back to it? I'd understand if I was always overweight. let's all hope so and try to be positive.

Starbear · 04/10/2007 22:10

Hi everyone, Not feeling so bad now. Going to stick to losing weight as a positive goal. I've had chicken stir-fry with no noodles. Lunch was poached eggs on 1 piece of toast and grilled tomatoes. Snacking on a few nuts and dried fruit. Still having tea with sugar (oh! I wasn't going to tell you but... +1/2 a biscuit) Just eaten and too tired to do the DVD now.
When and where do you exercise and how do you fit it in? (real question. I real want to know.) I know from the past, exercise is the only way of losing weight for me.
Basically should I get up at 5.30am to do some sit ups?

OP posts:
fedda · 04/10/2007 22:18

i couldn't do it at 5:30 but there are some lucky souls who can. I do dancing at 11 when nobody is watching me. I've just found some interesting excersises recomended by Joanna Hall but I haven't tried them yet. www.joannahall.com/shop/podcasts.asp

Starbear · 04/10/2007 23:22

Fedda, Didn't know you were around. I post then go off and do something and then get back. 11 pm exercise but doesn't it stop you going to sleep? Does your DH think your nuts? Am I making excuses! I'll try tomorrow after working on DS birthday party for Saturday. Total maddness I sent out 20 invites thinking that only 1/2 would turn up and everyone is coming Dads, Mum's kids dogs everyone. What was I thinking!!!!

OP posts:
fedda · 04/10/2007 23:29

Well, all I can say is good luck to you. i had a party similar to yours and it was good but I was younger then. My DH goes to bad at around 10 so there is nobody thinking I'm nuts as they simply don't have an idea of my dancing at 11. i actually only managed 10 minutes so I'm off to another 10. Well, I'm so tired at nights so ...

fedda · 04/10/2007 23:30

Ha, h, ha and again ha - I wrote goes to bad minning goes to bed

fedda · 05/10/2007 11:54

Starbear, if you're worried about your family thinking you're nuts in cast you dance at 11 PM you could do your excersise any time - the best, the cheapest and most satisfying is cleaning the house - you get your house clean and you burn your colouries, you can also sweep the leaves in your garden - you are on a fresh air and you do your excersise while making your garden look nicer, weeding is good as well so is any gardening or house work. I've just been sweeping my leaves - so many of them. It's a nice sunny day and you can get the results quickly.

Starbear · 05/10/2007 19:26

Fedda, saw your post ha ha Goes to bad. Don't they all! I think I make too many excuses. DH is exhausted today maybe when he goes to BED I'll have a go with Nell McAndrews DVD that I've had for two years and only watched once

OP posts:
fedda · 05/10/2007 19:44

Starbear, I saw your other posts. you don't have much to loose in terms of kg and I can tell you from esperience it's hard but after my moan about not mooving fast enough I've lost another hald a kg, i know it's not a lot but I'm pleased. For my evening meal I had trout with salad, I'll tell you the ingred. if you promice not to laugh and not to call me nuts and red bush tea with nuts and grapes.

Starbear · 05/10/2007 19:50

Go on you know you want to tell me the receipe. I will draw the line at Red bush tea. We used to have a boss that drank that stuff and we called her senible shoes (for other reasons. I have a frozen trout in the freeze as I didn't need to eat it that day as I had left overs from another day. Can't say what we are having today as I'm trying to prepare for Ds's Birthday. Going to do some mad dancing to entertaint the kids amd chase games that should do the trick. Goodnight I'll post soon

OP posts:
fedda · 05/10/2007 19:59
