Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Hi, how are you all doing? The weather is lovely today and was walking a bit quicker then usual as i felt more energetic .
Hi, I had grapes before school run, then as I was making vegie soup, I was munching on cabbage and yellow pepper and now I have brasil nuts on my desk . I ment to have 6 nuts but almost polished the whole 100 g bag. I'll have soup for lunch and baked potato with baked beans and little grated cheese for dinner. I'm trying to cut down on sugars which means less cups of tea and coffee aiming to have no more then 5 spoons of sugar a day.

mrsmalaprop · 26/02/2008 16:46

Hey Fedda! Good for you. It sounds as though you're really motivated and eating really well. It's great when it all comes together and you feel like it is really happening for you - and well done on the sugar resolution. It's a tough habit to kick, but will do you so much good.

I, on the other hand, am worrying myself into an early grave and am losing weight too fast. Doesn't sound like a problem, does it? It flippin' is, though! I can't eat or sleep. All this weight will come rushing back on plus some when I relax and start eating again. I have lost 6 pounds in 10 days and don't feel good for it. I'm not feeling very in control of it all right now.

Oh well, I'll keep checking back here and you can all keep me on the straight and narrow when things calm down a bit.

Happy eating and exercising!

fedda · 26/02/2008 21:20

Poor mrsmalaprop. It does sound like a problem . When my DS1 was ill i lost so much weight as well. It does come back, I'm afraid. I remember when he recovered I still was off colour and it took me some time to start tasting my food. I was so pleased to discover that I was hungry! it's easy for me to say please, don't worry but i know how worried i can be and I really feel for you.

kidsrus · 26/02/2008 23:06

oh poor you mrsm you sound like you are having a tough time.
i admire anyone who can teach children and as for the examiner who does he think he is.
do you think you should report him because they are there to support and should offer more training if you aren't up to date.
the last thing they should be doing is putting you down.
ask for another examiner to re examine and prove you are good.(then make sure you go all out to prove it.)
unless you have been feeling fed up for a while then it could be time for a change.
And yes you can change there is always a fork in the road you just have to look for it.
well im trying hard and was doing well until tonight when the biscuits came out, must go back to snack a jacks!

fedda · 26/02/2008 23:24

Hi, kidrus. You had some biscuits and they might be better then some snacks I thought were healthy. I was about to have mixed dried fruit from a colourful bag i bought for my DS2 with my tea and I started to read the label and i discovered there were 34g of sugar in the bag (a bag is so small as well). i had 2 pears and some prunes which were without added sugar. We'll all get there, girls. Tomorrow is another day. I made a resolution to have no more then 5 spoons of sugar in my drinks and watch out for sugar in food (I had baked beans though with my baked potato and pieces of cheese. My other resolution is to go in bed by midnight at the latest. That will give me more sleep and I wouldn't have more snacks in the late ours as I'm used to. Good luck to everyone

mrsmalaprop · 27/02/2008 18:24

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Things are getting a bit better at school, but we've just got the date for DS's operations and it's next Tuesday. More worry and sleepless nights!

I am going to stay postive that I only have to make it to Easter and then I can relax and spend some proper time with DS while he recovers.

Thanks for the advice,Kids. The whole thing about that observation is that I'm not supposed to be a good teacher yet. I'm only a student and I'm supposed to make mistakes in order to learn. So yes, he was out of line and totally unreasonable. He is in a bit of trouble with my course director now! .

DforDiva · 27/02/2008 21:14

Hi Mrsmalaprop, im glad you got dates for your ds`s operation. I understand how its like. Hope you will feel better and get some sleep.
Nice to see everyone around I still keeping up with gym, i feel better when i been. But its hard work to get myself out of home. Had chips and chicken today home cooked. chips were yum
Im trying not to cut everything, just eat whatever i want.

fedda · 27/02/2008 23:30

Hi, everyone. I had raw cabbage leaves for breakfast, vegie soup at 10 and for my lunch, each time with a small piece of Gauda cheese. at 4 - vegie soup. Dinner - lemon and garlic chicken with rice and peas, tea with 1 sugar and 4 biscuits, 10pm - tea with 1 sugar, grapes and satcuma. i still have some soup left for tomorrow lunch and for dinner will be spaghetti bolognese. Breakfast probably will be grapes.

Fimbles5 · 28/02/2008 08:19

Here we go again!! - Weekly weigh in tonight. I was so gutted last week as I had put on 3lbs so have been really good this week and am hoping to have lost this! (We can but hope). I weighed myself at home this morning and looks promising, but I don't usually trust my scales so may need a shoulder to cry on later. Will keep you updated. How about everyone else. Anyone else close to target that we can help with a little encouragement?

fedda · 28/02/2008 10:55

Not me, I'm afraid. I still need to lose 3,5 kg and there is no sign of it. Still, I'm eating more healthily and I'm not going to give up

fedda · 02/03/2008 17:07

I hope everyone is having a nice day today

Fimbles5 · 02/03/2008 21:51

Thankyou fedda - I had a great day with my two. Probably ate too much, but went for a long forest walk after lunch so will hopefully have worked some of it off. Lost 4lbs last week so I hope I haven't ruined it so far this week. How are you? What did you do today?

fedda · 02/03/2008 21:56

Hi, Fimbles. I'm so glad to hear from you. Warmes congratulations on weight loss. I've lost 800 g but that was before my lunch and i had a lot of food. It was nice. I had chicken liver pate with white French bread and steak with peppercorn and calvados souce with French fries and cheese cake with blackcarrant compote for decert followed by coffee late with 1 sugar and biscuits, teas at home with 1 sugar each and some dry cereal. Anyway, my day was good and I didn't want to worry about the weight loss but tomorrow I'll go back on my soups so I'm hopeful. please, keep in touch, Fimbles. it's so nice chatting to you.

Fimbles5 · 03/03/2008 20:53

Fedda - Your lunch sounds fantastic. I can't remember the last time I ate anything that sounded so wonderful. I think I need to go and treat myself to a really nice meal, as although I feel great with the weightloss, you find yourself thinking of nothing else but food and diets, and you forget how good food can be. We all deserve a treat now and again. Well done on your weightloss too, I still cannot get to grips with grams, so am not sure how much you have lost, but you seem to be doing really well and the main thing is you are sticking at it, and keeping me motivated too. Thanks.

fedda · 03/03/2008 21:38

Hi, Fimbles, I'm not doing that great actually as I put on a kg (sorry, don't know what it means in pounds but I seem to put on 1 kg in one day after that very fantastic meal and I made soup today which I thought would be fantastic - roast squash with carrots and Marigold bullion + some spices and then totally ruined it by adding fresh avocado which tasted lovely raw but became awful when cooked. I had fish fingers and 2 buttered toastes with my tea (+ 1 sugar) for dinner and I'm about to have a cup of tea now since everyone is up and this is my time. I know one thing though I'm not giving up, I'll stay motivated and I'l put it all down to my experience (no more avocado in my soup). Let's support each other, Fimbles, you bring sun shine with your wonderful messages.

kidsrus · 03/03/2008 22:16

fedda · 03/03/2008 22:48

Hi, kidrus, great to hear from you.

fedda · 05/03/2008 19:09

Hi, girls. My weight goes up and slightly down. I eat more then I need and i eat biscuits which i was avoiding. I need your support, please. Please tell me I need to stop being silly and eat when I don't feel the need, just in front of telly in the evenings or after the school runs. I always have excuse - it's cold and a hot cup of tea is nice but I need something with it or it's boring and here goes biscuits and bread sticks and stuff. Where did i put that will power of mine? I seem to have lost it somewhere just before Christmas and I wasn't even drinking. Did you see it somewhere lying around? I know, it was a strong wind, may be it blew it away?

Fimbles5 · 06/03/2008 17:39

Oh Fedda - I am so sorry I wasn't here for you last night. We are the same in so many ways. I comfort eat too. You need a hobby which you can do in front of the television, but which means you won't eat. I don't know what sort of things you like, but I do cross-stitch. I am studying at the moment which means my mind is focused on something other than food. It is ok to have biscuits etc as long as you get back on track as soon as you can. Stay positive - draw a line under the bad days and try to start again the following day. Do not write off the whole week, a day isn't that bad but from experience I feel horrible if I have ruined the whole week. Try something like a meringue nest if you crave something sweet. These aren't too bad and for me satisfy the sugar craving. I am here for you, I am not really a very good role model, but I will listen and offer support where I can. Try to keep smiling.

mrsmalaprop · 06/03/2008 17:42

Evening all.

Fedda - I hope this little blip (for blip it is..)is over. You CAN do this and you WILL!!!

I think you get into a cycle and once you've given in to bread and biscuits a few times, you start to crave them. When you've been without them for a bit you stop missing them. It just takes going through that pain barrier again. You can do it and you'll feel so much better. Go to bed thinking that tomorrow will be different then make sure it is.

I can't really talk, though. I have put a whole tonne of weight on this week - maybe 7lbs. It's all the inevitable gain from not eating for a couple of weeks coupled with days of sitting round the hospital comfort eating loads of things I shouldn't, thinking that I 'deserve' it because I'm so worried. Rubbish.

The op went well. I'm absolutely knackered and back at school to finish my teaching practice, but all the time wishing I was at home with my poor ds, who is a bit sleepy with a big bandage round his little head.

I need a rocket up me too to get this back on track. At least I have the Easter holidays ahead to get to the gym everyday and sort my life out a bit.

Good luck everyone!

fedda · 06/03/2008 19:29

Hi, Fimbles. Thank you very much for your beautiful message. I'd like to print it out and file it and when I feel bad I'll read it again and again. You write so beautifully and you make me smile. You are so kind. You are my role model. It's much more important to be kind and understanding then to be slim. Bless you for your kindness. Thank you for your support. You have my support as well and I'm always here for you. We'll achieve it, sooner or later.

Hi, mrsmalaprop. Thank you for your ideas. Unfortunately I couldn't get into that frame of mind when I stopped eating bread and biscuits for 3 month. Once I started, it all came back to me. You must be stronger then me. I'll try though, I promise to at least to limit them. I love short bread biscuits and peanut cookies. I'll do my best. I think if they aren't in the house it helps.

fedda · 07/03/2008 18:09

Hello, girls. How are you? Today I had grapes for breakfast, BBQ chicken wings with grapes and small cup of tea with 1 sugar and 1 apple for lunch and I'm having macarel and chips + peas for dinner. I'll have another cup of tea with 1 sugar and something to munch on. I'm trying to avoid biscuits as I don't feel when I need to stop. I haven't lost anything but I haven't gained anything either. I've been walking today as the weather changed for the better.

Fimbles5 · 08/03/2008 15:25

Fedda - Glad to see you are still smiling!! I had a good weight loss this week but have been eating ever since, once again, spiralling out of control. We seem to get in a pattern don't we. Well, I will take the advice I offered you on Thursday. I plan to forget about today and back on track tomorrow (hopefully). Pleased to hear you stayed the same this week, you may not have lost, but like you said you haven't gained. Well done you.

fedda · 08/03/2008 15:41

Thank you, Fimbles. You made me smile again . Yes, the weight stays the same for a week now. I let myself enjoy the weekends and then go back on a sensible eatng of some kind during the week. I think we need to take off preasure during the weekends and feel happy and smiley. thank ou for your support. I'm here and you can rely on me. your advice was superb. If you follow it you'll achieve your goals, fimbles

kidsrus · 08/03/2008 16:12
