Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

happy new year all! Im back! Thankyou for all your kind thoughts and wishes.
This is my favourite thread which makes me think when i go to eat something i shouldn't.
I weighed 11.9 this morning so i am aiming to be 11 stone in 6 weeks as my first goal of the year.
My resoultions will be thinner, happier and fitter, i would also like to improve my posture as i slouch which makes me look shorter and wider than i really am.
I am also going to declutter so any suggestions on how to clear out will be greatly recieved.

fedda · 02/01/2008 22:52

Hi, kidrus, lovely to hear from you. I like your resolutions. As for de clatter, it's my downfall, I'm afraid but recently I've spent around 1 hour having plastic covers labeled and trying to fit the stuff appropriate for each bag. it helped me organized some of my stuff which was everywhere in my room. De latter is hard if you look at your things but easy if you have a small aim and spend 30 minutes - you'll be surprised how much you can do in such a little time. Good luck!

Fimbles5 · 03/01/2008 16:45

Calling all those who have supported me on this thread so far!! I am now going out to weigh in. Please, please, be here when I get back as have a feeling I may need a shoulder to cry on. X

fedda · 03/01/2008 17:12

I'm here, fimbles. Whatever happens, I'll be there for you.

Fimbles5 · 03/01/2008 19:06

Bless you Fedda. Well I put on 3lbs, which actually wasn't as bad as I thought. It is amazing how just 3lbs can make those jeans etc. seem so much tighter. So am drying the tears, and trying to think positive. Am reaching for a piece of fruit whilst I await my friend, who is coming round to accompany me on treadmill/exercise bike. What are the chances of shifting the 3lbs in one week?!? Will let you know how I get on. Thanks for being here.

fedda · 03/01/2008 23:06

Bless you, fimbles, You're doing well and you'll achieve your goal. I'm still overeating and I'm not reaching for fruit, rather for bisuits and dry cherrios with my sweet tea.

kidsrusanta · 05/01/2008 23:53

fruit and veg box arrived again today so starting tommorow i will put my nose back to the grind stone even though there is still 5 tins of chocs, 2 tins biscuits and at least 10 selection boxes belonging to the kids who always like to share with their mum.

I thought i would cook a healthy roast tomo to get me back into routine.
So hopefully porridge, roast, soup and fruit for snacks (no extras)

I noticed in this months somerfield magazine a few recipies to help weight loss so i thought i might try a few to spice our lives up a bit.

Anyone know what to do with Advocado intead of guacumole.

fedda · 06/01/2008 11:14

Hi, kidrus, avocado is lovely in salads with toms, cucunber, red/yellow peeper. I often add some grapes as well. You could use avocado instead of butter for spreding it on bread. You could add avocado to smocked salmon.

fedda · 06/01/2008 11:17

I've just done a search on avocado recipes and there are a lot of them coming up. Try Sainsburys site and do search on avocado. It's amazing how many ideas you'll find.

Fimbles5 · 06/01/2008 11:25

Hello kidsrus & Fedda. Just thought I would wish you all the best as you get back on track with the healthy eating!! Good luck and keep posting.

fedda · 06/01/2008 21:55

Hello, fimbles. Thank you very much for your warm wishes. How are you doing?

Fimbles5 · 07/01/2008 08:10

Not too bad this week so far. Did have a glass of wine and pringles on Saturday, but have managed to stay on track apart from that slip up.
Have tried to do more exercise this week, but for me it is finding the time to fit it all in. I recently started a new job, and am finding adjusting to returning to work quite difficult. At the moment it helps with diet as don't have time to snack, but also don't seem to have time to do anything else (house looks like a tip!). Stressing a little, but hopefully will adjust to a routine soon. Thankyou for asking. Will keep you updated, and let me know how things go with you. We need some success stories.

nappyaddict · 07/01/2008 08:24

can i join you??

what exercise does everyone do? i walk about 2 miles every day but i think i need to do more.

Fimbles5 · 07/01/2008 12:59

Hello nappyaddict and welcome. Course you can join us. With new people comes inspiration and support so the more the merrier. I think you are doing fantastic if you walk 2 miles everyday. I tend to try and go out on my treadmill every other evening for about 40 minutes, but I feel I need to do more as my weightloss has slowed quite drastically. How much would you like to lose? and do you intend to diet, or just change to healthier ways?? I will offer you my full support on here. X

fedda · 07/01/2008 14:17

And I will.

nappyaddict · 07/01/2008 16:15

i want to lose a stone i think. i usually take ds to the park with the ducks which i think is a mile away (takes about half an hour to walk there?) and then back again.

fedda · 07/01/2008 22:17

I walk around 40 to 50 minutes a day. Are you going to have some plan of what food to eat or reduce the portion sizes or you just want to do some excersises? Personally I don't know what works on the long term. Everything works in the short term, even as I read yesterday, cookie diet!

nappyaddict · 07/01/2008 22:29

i'm already eating healthily (am doing sw) but have come to a bit of a halt and thought doing some extra exercise would help. am trying to get a cheap bike trailer to i can cycle places, rather than get the bus.

kidsrus · 07/01/2008 23:21

Welcome nappyaddict.
I walk about a mile a day too plus the usual running around after a very active 2 y/o (nearly).
Thanks fedda for the ideas with advocado's will take a look at sainsbury's.
A few years ago i tried advocado in a salad and i forced myself to eat it when it wasn't ripe enough. Then i kept thinking perhaps it should have been cooked and that it was poisionous when raw which put me off it a bit.
The new me is willing to try again but i think i will avoid raw at the moment until i get that episode out of my mind.
ohhhhhhhhhh i am so strange.

fedda · 07/01/2008 23:40

Please, don't worry, kidrus, we all have ideas which stop us from trying stuff. Avocado varies a lot and i bought avocado from the market and it was awful while supermarket one was good. I think I don't like green avocado and I like browny green if that makes sence.

kidsrus · 07/01/2008 23:51

well to be honest it was green and quite hard to eat. i have a friend from south africa who sings their praises, Im seeing her tomo so will take her 4 of the 6 and dh persuaded me to keep 2 ond try to make something with them.
I think its the not knowing when they are right to eat.
Also this week i got a pawpaw ( i think) any ideas for those? ( it looks like a large mango).
Take a look at my profile iv'e taken a picture of my box. he!he!

fedda · 08/01/2008 23:31

I've never tried them but when i searched for the ideas, the recipies were calling for making ice-cream, cake, pie or cookies.

kidsrus · 11/01/2008 22:49

YUKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tried advocado again tonight, thought i would mash it on a potato and eat prawns with eat.
something stopped me putting it on the potato and i just tasted my stomach wretched and i just couldn't face anymore. it tasted sour and floury(green flesh) yellow and black flesh was'nt any better either.

My baked potato with prawns was yummy with a bit of olive spread to boot.

Fimbles5 · 12/01/2008 06:46

Oh kidsrus, I so know the feeling. You want to try something new to keep the diet varied. My experience yesterday was similar to yours. Saw an advert for natural yoghurt topped with muesli and fruit, and thought I would try it for breakfast. Never have these in house, so shopped especially and was so looking forward to it. Took one mouthful..... will leave you to decide what happened next. (On second thoughts don't!!) It is amazing how something can sound so nice but when you actually come to try it is totally the opposite. Whats in the box this week???

fedda · 12/01/2008 17:10

I can't agree more. There are so many good things you can try, you don't need to force yourself eating something you don't. With me - I can't stand grapefruit no matter how good it's supposed to be for me.
