Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Thank you, kidrus, I'm aware of that but I didput on over 1 kg (sorry, don't know what it's in pounds but it sounds bad to me). You see, Christmas hasn't started yet but I've already started to put on weight so now I've lost less then 3 kg in 6 month, what's next?

kidsrus · 03/12/2007 23:06

I have just got out my 1995 Dairy Diary (i keep it for weight conversions)
To convert:
grams to pounds you multiply by 0.0022

kilograms to pounds you multiply by 2.2046

pounds to grams multiply by 453.592
pounds to kilograms multiply by 0.4536

That means you have lost a total of 6.61 pounds (0.826lb) per week.
well done you!

you weigh less than your starting weight which means you have succeeded in losing weight.
you have come to a plateux and need to work hard at it for two weeks then relax and enjoy a little of what you like.
So come on girls lets not fall at the first hurdle i know its hard but we can do it!
Shall we do the measurements again that might give us a boost.
(oops sorry that was a bit long)

Fimbles5 · 04/12/2007 08:10

Fedda - They say that if you lose weight slowly it is more likely to stay off. You are doing so great. I know it can be so hard when you have been dieting for so long and it feels like you are getting nowhere. Kidsrus is right you have obviously reached a plateau and need to perhaps change something in your diet to get things kick started again. I also, have stopped losing but am maintaining at the moment, but am making changes in the hope I can lose some more. I certainly have not deserted you, and I am almost certain neither have the others. We are in this together. Don't give up!!

Fimbles5 · 04/12/2007 08:15

Also, we all need to make a pact. As of now we remove any scales from the house. Put them in the shed/garage/whatever and leave them there for one week. From now on we only weigh in once a week. We all weigh too often, and are becoming obsessed with our daily weight, watching it yoyo. We may be surprised after a week. (Sorry I sounded a tad harsh there didn't I?

Fimbles5 · 04/12/2007 08:17

Kidsrus - I have never ever measured myself, but I will today. Maybe then I can hopefully reduce in size even if I am not losing weight. We can but hope.

fedda · 04/12/2007 10:23

Thank you for your optimism, fimbles and kidrus. Yes, I have to confess, I weigh myself twice a day - morning and evening and to make things worse, not once each time because my digital scales show difference in 500 g or more easily and i go for the lowest figure - I. e. I stio doing it once the scalse show the lowest figure . I'm not brave to join you in your pack as i know i wouldn't be able to keep it. I can only promise something if i know I'll do it and I'm too weak on that one. Sorry! I've put on 1 kg and 200 g and I think I'm in a wrong with my diet, I've got so fed up yesterday that I had my dinner with mash potatoes after so many month having no carbs after 5 diet. I really enjpyed the mash which i made with spring onions. Today I bought carrots, beetroot, onion and I'll make my magic vegie soup and hope it will make some difference. i know I'm wrong in having my sugar free jam in my tea but i need hot drinks and I can't stand hot water even with a squise of lemon. I bought raspberry leaf tea and I'm afraid I don#t like it. I have SO MANY herbal and fruit teas at home but I can't stand any of them. I think I could open a shop! I only like black tea (even tried white tea) and white coffee and I do have water and juice (no juice drinks or coca cola stuff). I forgot when last time I had a buiscuit or a cake. I was sweeping my leaves today for my excersise and i borrowed some videos on fitness in the library. I wouldn't give up but I don't know for how long I can carry on a strict views even without my lovely home made cakes and pies.

kidsrus · 04/12/2007 22:59

thats it fedda you need the odd cake or treat.
i will be honest i open the kids crisps and have a couple that way i don't eat a whole pack.
i eat 1 home made fairy cake and make sure they are healthy.
i'm making blueberry ones this week.
i have a bit of choc from time to time.
i also try to eat as much fruit and veg as poss and less meat or protein.
i'm still crap at drinking (unless its jd and coke)
but since 1st october I HAVE LOST 6lb
ok not great but i haven't gained and i will keep trying.

kidsrus · 04/12/2007 23:01

anyone know what to do with celariac?

fedda · 05/12/2007 11:00

Sorry, kidrus, I've never tried it. May be try to google it. I had my magic soup - raw beetroots withtheir stalks cooked in water with carrots, garlic, onion and flavoured with low fat plain yougurt and I feel better now. I bought some nushrooms todat and I'll have mushroom soup. About cakes - I don't have any disciplin and I can't stop to one so it's easier for me to have none. I know it sounds stupid but I'm used to having 6 peanut cookies with my white coffee with 2 sugars or 3 portions of ice-cream or 3 Muller fruit corner yougurts. You get the picture!

kidsrusanta · 06/12/2007 22:17

weighed today lost another pound.
i'm sure i won't lose again this week as dh & i made light work of a box of cherry bakewells last night (3 each)
kids all had bought choc muffins today & i had flapjack.
now ive just ate a bag of crisps
as for the rest of the day.
I had: porridge
salad with pineapple cottage cheese.
chicken and home made chips served with salad and ploughmans pickle.
choc digestive crunch corner.
mango
at least i had 5 servings of fruit & veg
no coffee or jd Yet!

fedda · 06/12/2007 22:33

Congratulations, kidrus. I can't say the same about myself but I'm so happy for you.

kidsrusanta · 08/12/2007 22:46

oh dear weighed this morning and 1lb lighter than the 6th but weighed again tonight and put on 6lb but i have been bad again as we treated the kids & us to pizza, wedges & garlic bread but i will eat veg all week to get back on track.
i will try to avoid the scales till wed or thurs as its depressing to see ive gained.
hopefully by weds i should break even again.
it looks like its me & you again fedda keeping going but its helping me to see how its normal to trip on hurdles but its the ones who get back up and keep running that will win in the end!

fedda · 08/12/2007 22:58

Sweetheart, kidrus, did you see my post on www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1378/413418?stamp=071208215738. Terrible, isn't it?

kidsrusanta · 08/12/2007 23:39

no fedda thats quite good, you have had nuts good for essential oils, you had at least 4 veg maybe 5 if you counted the apricot, you controlled the chocolate and being dark its better for you. the bread sticks no comment and jam could you try to replace with canderel or some thing similar?
but the most important thing is you enjoyed it while it lasted and tomo is another day. pick yourself back up and keep jumping those hurdles girl, we will do it its a good job we all have short memories for what we ate yesterday

fedda · 08/12/2007 23:58

Thank you, kidrus. You're so kind.

Fimbles5 · 09/12/2007 10:11

No Kidsrus & Fedda, I am afraid you are not alone. You still have me following the thread, and desperately trying to hang on in there too. Every day I start the day with "Today is a new day", and at the moment there is always at least one slip up during the day. Yesterday it was McDonalds for lunch with the kids . Mind you I avoided the fries, but couldn't turn down the sweet chilli chicken deli. Why is it every day seems to be another hurdle!! It seems all I ever think about is what I am going to eat. I love this time of year, but the next couple of weeks are going to be a nightmare. Sorry must think positive thoughts. WE CAN DO THIS!!!

fedda · 09/12/2007 17:17

Hi, Fimbles. I saw your messages on the other thread and I'm glad you don't give up. I had too much food today and feel staffed now.

kidsrusanta · 09/12/2007 22:00

they say its good to eat more (of the right foods).
glad you are still with us fimble.
i forgot to mention the mcdonalds yesterday too
today was better

bf nothing (had a lie in)
apple and penguin
lunch h/m chicken &veg soup
slice Melon
e/m roast beef carrots, swede, celeriac, red cabbage,brussels,peas,2 yorkies and gravy
felt stuffed so no desert
just had coffee with 1 and mince pie.
think im ok with points.

fedda · 09/12/2007 22:19

Hi, kidrus. Your dinner sounds so good! Today I had 2 apples for breakfast, grilled sardines with onions for starter, slow baked pork with Savoy cabbage and fruit salad for lunch (we tend to have Sunday lunch and light dinner on Sundays) and smocked salmon with qualls eggs, little cheese, some red pepper and cucumber for dinner with a glass of water with a squize of lime. Cup of bluberry shop bought fruit tea which I forced myself to drink to avoid jam with unsalted nuts. Just now a cup of coffee with 2 sugars and more unsalted nuts. Yes, a lot of food! I'm planning to have my vegie soup tomorrow for lunch.

kidsrusanta · 09/12/2007 22:44

so am i still have some chicken and veg soup for tomo.
i have nearly finished the veg in my box.
just have half red cabbage, half swede, quart celeriac, few brussels, carrots and sweet pots left in the veg and half melon, 3 sats,5 apples and 1 mango left to eat this week.
I never found out what the strange fruit was only ate 1 out of 2 as i was unsure of it.

kidsrusanta · 09/12/2007 22:48

well done fedda with your meals they sound lovely. quails eggs ive never tried are they very strong in taste?

fedda · 09/12/2007 23:03

I love them and my kids enjoy them too. They are similar to how chicken eggs used to be (in my opinion). They are fiddly to open but well worth it. They are expensive but as a treat it's okay. I think a box of 12 tiny eggs is just under £3. It's nice to have differnt taste especcially when I have to deny some foods I like. Your vegie box sounds interesting but I have to admit I like to choose my own combination although I'm sure it's more practical to do it your way.

kidsrusanta · 09/12/2007 23:12

i have enjoyed trying new things that i wouldn't normally look twice at.
red cabbage for one. the water in the stamer looked like meths when it was done.
also the gravey looked funny being purple last weds.

Fimbles5 · 10/12/2007 09:23

You both have such exciting menus. I have decided the reason I find dieting so hard, is because I eat the same things everyday and my menu becomes really boring. I am going to take a leaf out of your books and try hard to have something different or new. The veg box sounds like a great idea, as I know I do not eat enough fruit and veg.

fedda · 10/12/2007 10:41

I bought a banch of beetroot and broccoly. I'm going to make a new soup - beetroot, broccoli, carrots and garlic and see what happens.
