Hi, Very busy time at work and home. have fallen off the wagon and need to get back on. I'm still 70kgs so I have lost weight since starting this but not enough. There is an article in Zest 'Lose a dress size by christmas' I'm going to give it a go on Monday. Fedda you seem so strong and postive I wish I could stick at it like you.

Starbear, please join me. I'm having soups almost every day and they don't need much time to cook. In fact my soup is cooking while i'm writing this. you can put any veg you fancy. I tend to avoid white pots but i use sweet potatoes often. Cabbage with carrots and leeks is a good slimming aid and you can add some other veg to this basic soup. just have a variety so you're not bored. I tend to cook soup for 2 days and eat it, even have 2 helpings sometimes. 25 minutes cooking after boiling is all you need and you can get on with all your other things while it's cooking for you. i believe in snacks, i know that my dad was having 3 meals a day and no snacks when he was trying to loose weight and he was so angry all the time. He'd loose weight but nobody could be around him, everyone was just never right. It was because he was so frustraed feeling hungry between meals. i snack on fruit, berries, unsalted nuts, carrots, cucumber - anything healthy, even raw cabbage leaves! that gives me chance not to be hungry, not feeling deprived and also as you kindly metnioned, feeling positive.

kidsrus · 08/11/2007 21:37

Hi, kidsrus. Congratulations on your success. I've bought some stuff for kids' stockings but nothing else yet. Have you already started?

fedda · 08/11/2007 22:24

okay, here I go again. please, have a look at this: news.independent.co.uk/health/article3138352.ece

Fimbles5 · 09/11/2007 13:34

Hello all and well done on the success stories. Well I was right, had another bad week and have put on 2lbs. Really annoyed as have no longer lost my stone. So climbing back on that wagon today, and am going to be so good, in the hope I can shift this next week. Joined a hockey club this week and I have muscle ache everywhere, so this may help - hopefully
fedda - Couldn't get your latest link to work, but keep sending them, as they always prove interesting. Probably just my computer.

fedda · 09/11/2007 16:05

Fimbles, i've tried and the link is working but if it doesn't work on your computer, try to copy and paste n the search box. Anyway, basicaly the article says about findings that it can be not beneficial to be average weight and in some cases it can be food to be overweight so there you go. i'm not going to take it seriously though as every day seem to bring conflicting ideas so I'll carry on as normal. I'm having soup for 5 days this week and it works.

Fimbles5 · 09/11/2007 22:19

Fedda - managed to get link after all, thankyou. I wish I could see the benefits of being overweight, it just gets me down all the time. I find myself thinking of nothing else except what I can eat next and whether it is healthy. I am sure you have probably posted this earlier in the thread, but do you think you could post one of your soup recipes. I am a nightmare at cooking, but they sound so good and hopefully they are easy to make. Obviously, lots of veg, but how do you make the stock?? (probably a stupid question but humour me .

fedda · 09/11/2007 23:58

Fimbles, I'm really sorry but Idon't make the stock. I just use the vegies and I consider them as my stock products. I don't like stock cubes and I don't fry the veg I just put them in cold water, bring to the boil and add some unpealed garlic cloves, herbs and spices. No salt, no sugar, no butter. You might find it's not to your taste but it's very healthy and i love it. Today, for example, i had 2 large carrots which were surprisingly nice and I cook them with asparagus and garlic, dry coriander and chilli powder, then removed the garlic and pured the rest using my blender adding fresh coriander. It was very nice, warming and the kitchen smelt divine. The other day I cooked raw beeetroot with carrots, can chopped tomatoes and 1/4 shredded cabbage with dried herbs and spices and it was good as well. you could flavour it with a spoon of greek yougurt 100% fat free which is delicious. I tend to make soup with vegies which need about 20 to 25 minutes to cook - quick and easy. i have to say, sometimes my soup doesn't taste nice as i tend to experiment and some things just don't invite me - like just boiled leeks but mostly I like what I cook. just have a go and see what happens. you could also have a look at recipy section and there is a thread about soups or make a search. I'll see if i find a link for you.

Have a look at this one: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1379/417946

kidsrus · 10/11/2007 22:56

yep xmas is rapidly coming up so i have picked up a few bargins when i saw them.
d/h doing a bootie tomo to clear some room.
fimble don't worry about the gain it will come off again this week like mine did.

has anyone tried fruit and veg boxes?
my friend said she finds them excellent for her diet as she feels she needs to find lots of different ways to use it all up, and she tries things she wouldn't normally.

fedda · 11/11/2007 15:12

That's a very good idea, kidsrus. i haven't tried it but I'm very interested.

fedda · 11/11/2007 18:49

I had poriage cooked with semi-skimmed milk, 1 spoon of honey and grapes gor breakfast, a cup of coffee, lamb stew with harricot beans and baked beans, onions and carrots with mash and a glass of water with some lemon juice followed by coffee with rice cakes for lunch and the left overs of stew I devided between 2 meals and one of them had for dinner making it into soup adding 1/2 can of chopped tomatoes, coriander powder and curry powder served with fresh coriander.I'm afraid I'll have another cup of coffee later. How are you all doing?

Fimbles5 · 11/11/2007 20:29

Oh Fedda, you make me feel so hungry. Today I have had 30g Cereal with skimmed milk, an apple and two satsumas, for lunch a vegetable cup a soup with one slice of bread, some snack a jacks and a weightwatchers toffee bar, and then for tea chicken fajitas, and one scoop of low fat ice cream. I am now munching two rice cakes. That is my total allowance for today, but you sound like you are eating so much, even though it is all the right stuff. Keep up the good work. This is so hard

fedda · 11/11/2007 20:51

Fimbles, if you don't mind me saying it, you eat very little but the things you eat might not help with your goal. Anyway, it's only my opinion and i make mistakes every day but I'd try not to have rice cakes after 5 as I think Joanna Hall's thery to avoid potatoes, cereal, rice (actually cereal as well but there you go), bread and pasta after 5PM is very helpful. Anyway, for me it's important to eat enough or i feel frustrated and start munching on buiscuits instead. I don't feel that I overeat and i have less bloating these days. i think it's important for me to establish healthy life style and avoid dieting as it doesn't help on a long run and that's my weight goes up and down. May be gradual weight loss will be more stable but that's just my idea, I'll just have to try and see what happens but so far i'm pleased that I don't have so much sugar as my teeth are very bad indeed, more likely like teeth of 80 years old woman so it's better for me to have healthy food anyway even if loosing weight will be soooo slow. Anyway, we all have our ideas and i'm very happy to discuss them as every experience is so important. Please, keep posting and good luck!

kidsrus · 11/11/2007 22:14

w/w and s/w encourage you too eat more rather than less of no point food eg:fruit and veg. so working on that theory fimbles should be able to eat what she has plus a large salad and veg soup too as long as she dos'nt add cheese or ham to salad or chicken to the soup.
i will let you know about boxes as my friend said we could both have 1 half price if she recommends me,perhaps i could do that for you too.

fedda · 11/11/2007 22:17

Oh, dear, I just had a bit of cheese with 2 apples and a cup of tea.

kidsrus · 11/11/2007 22:23

ooh lovely even better with a glass of port

fedda · 11/11/2007 22:28

i thought you suggested not to have cheese. i know it's lovely and i can't resist a bit of it after dinner or lunch which I failed to mention i had as well. i think in total i had 30 g of cheese today. I'll have soup tomorrow but there will be some meet from the stew I'm afraid.

kidsrus · 11/11/2007 22:52

well i just read an article in the times where it says you lose weight quicker if you surprise your body and eat more calories some times.

kidsrus · 11/11/2007 23:00

here it is

fedda · 11/11/2007 23:00

i like that idea although it might be wrong like so many around. We seem to have a new idea every day - no fat, low fat, full fat, no bacon, yes bacon, i don't know what to think any more but i don't think a bit of cheese(Chedder and mild in my case as i simply don't like strong cheeses) would do much harm. Actually the same goes for chicken in my view. i hope i don't make a mistake here though. It will be such a shame.

kidsrus · 11/11/2007 23:07

i could have had that scone with cream instead of that flap jack

Fimbles5 · 12/11/2007 11:23

Fedda - No, I don't mind you saying, thats what you are here for I totally agree. Unfortunately I am addicted to snacks, that is half my problem. I would rather eat rice cakes etc, than a nice juicy apple. Hence, I use up my allowance on snacking between meals, and then have nothing left for a decent meal. Thats why I asked about soup, as I thought this might be filling for my meal.
Kidsrus - Its good to have you back with us, hadn't heard from you for a while. Keep posting as at least there are now four of us on this thread to keep each other motivated.
How are you doing??
Has anyone spotted that Christmas party outfit that they are dying to buy in a smaller size yet?

fedda · 12/11/2007 18:58

Interesting article, kidsrus. i still think it's a bit too much for people who are trying to loose weight though. Fimbles, if you don't like snacking on apples how about some berries - blubberies, raspberries or fruit - kiwi, peaches, apricots? rice cakes are excellent before 5. Anyway, I'm sure you know yourself better and whatever works for you should be good. i'm off to making mushrooms and tomato soup.
