With a little support I might be able to diet too.

i promise to have porrige with for breakfast or just fruit with some low fat yougurt, soup for lunch which I cook from scratch and sensible dinner, for snacks - unsalted nuts, fruit ar veg and have more water during the day.

Starbear · 30/10/2007 17:04

Oh I better join in. I promise to have porridge, more fruit and stick to no carbs after five. Eat fewer biscuits and stay off the cakes. Make pumpkin soup this week and just try a little harder.

Sorry girls - There is absolutely no way you are going to persuade me to have porridge for breakfast (I cannot think of anything worse). So I promise to attempt to avoid biscuits and cakes and limit crisps and wine to Saturday only, oh, and I would like to try to do some exercise. By the way, what is with the porridge thing - is it supposed to be really that great for brekky??

Starbear · 30/10/2007 18:37

Okay Fimbles5 we will let you off that one. had a woman at work who couldn't even sit next to me while I ate porridge.

fedda · 30/10/2007 19:22

porridge is not for everybody and every food has pros and cons, including fruit 9I heard on TV programme that fruit should carry warning as it's bad for your teeth although my dentist said that it wasn't true but who knows, may be too much of anything is not healthy). porridge is supposed to lower colosterol and sort out blood sugar, it's warming and comforting without guilt and it feels you up, it's also full grain with all the benefits but variety is much more important and you can have any hot cereal, for example millet or have some yougurt with fruit or just fruit or vegetable or juice made with different veg or fruit, really whatever is heathy and gives you the good boost in the morning. I'm having porridge because i like it but when I was a little girl I hated it and my poor mum used to put some berries on the top of porridge to get me eat it. Guest what, I'd just eat berries and leave the porridge. i redescovered porridge in my late 20-s and I love it but i eat it about 2 or 3 times a week. When I don't have time for breakfast, i have some water and then a handfull of grapes or some apples. Today i had water followed by grapes and in 40 minutes a banana, for lunch I had meet stew with rice and vegies, a cup of unsweetened coffee and later some water and for dinner - home made soup. i'll try some more water later.

kidsrus · 30/10/2007 23:10

I did it porridge/salad and h/m chick & veg soup snack was snack a jacks.
i drank more squash (don't do water) fruit tea and 1 coffee(milk &1) today.
round of applause please.

fedda · 30/10/2007 23:24

You have mine, kidsrus.
By the way, i didn't do water up to last month and it's fantastic. If you don't like it plane you could try some lemon juice squeezed from half a lemon added to plain water. i love water now and I try to sip it during the day. It's great first thing in the morning when we are so dehydrated and last thing at night and also while you are cooking.

kidsrus · 30/10/2007 23:30

i like the flavoured water but its so expensive to buy.
I have a lemon so could put a jug in fridge with it.
I promise to keep my feet on the ground (nnnnnnnnnnnnnn) and try that tomo.

fedda · 31/10/2007 11:36

personally i think flavoured water is rubbish and i only use fresh lemon to flavour the water from the tap - cheep and chherful. I don't really like mineral bottle water and i think one day they will discovere that it's not good for us. people drink it for few days, it gets stale and it tastes stale when you open it first anyway to me. Anyway, everybody is different and whatever works for you. I put on over 1 kg weight inspite of everything I'm trying so hard so initially having lost 4 kg i've gained over 1 kg back.

Fimbles5 · 01/11/2007 20:52

Help - having yet another bad time!! Weighed in today and was gutted I had only lost 0.5lb. Couldn't believe it as been so good. So what have I done since... yep you've guessed it, eaten anything and everything in and out of sight and now feel really fed up.

fedda · 01/11/2007 21:26

Poor fimbles. You were upset with loosing 0,5 but i put on almost 2 kg eating only healthy stuff. i don't know how to cheer you up apart from saying how much i feel for you. We just have to start tomorrow. I'm going to do some dancing later no matter what. I bought white tea and i forced myself to drink a mug of it as it's supposed to be good for me. i refused to have spam fritters with mash and i ended up doing my own meal - stuffed peppers with chilli con carne saved from some time ago and defrosted with mushrooms followed by tiny beat of cheese with grapes and unsalted nuts. I suppose my portion was bigger then i should have eaten but it was so good, nutricious and enjoyable. i washed food doctor yesterday on TV and they were advocating home cooking and gym - they made one of the very fat women go to gym 5 days a week for 1 hour (well, she didn't do that much but she tried) I couldn't really do that. i suppose we can only do so much. May be we should take it easy and view it as a long term project. Food docotr team were doing it with her for 6 month. Christmea time is going to be a hard time if we're trying to loose weight or even just not get fatter. So many temtations and then Easter will come. All we can do is try our best and not to get croos with ourselves. At least that's what i think.

fedda · 01/11/2007 21:29

i think you are going to stop being upset right now because you'll be laughing at all my mis prints, fimbles 9and the rest of you)

Starbear · 01/11/2007 21:29

Fedda with you on the water. Tap water for me everything else is a bit of a con.
Girls, I don't think we're doing to well at the moment. On the job front I put my application in yesterday, going to visit the place tomorrow. The applications have to go from my HR to the other place by Monday. Cros your fingers for me.
So I haven't be bothered with dieting the past two weeks and had my mind on other things.
Going for it again on Monday. Going to make soups, I've got most of next week off to make some head way.

fedda · 01/11/2007 21:41

oh, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Starbear. Thank you for your support as well. I'm glat you think similar.

And another one, worring for me and may be for many of us who are trying to drink much more water these days: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6263029.stm

fedda · 05/11/2007 13:01

I've just tried a recipy from the book 'French women don't get fat' and it was a miracle siup to help you slimming made from 1 kg of leeks and water. What yak! Absolutely awful! I suppose it will make you slim because it will make you sick if you eat just this for 2 days and drink water! Never again! There must be some better ways to loose weight!

fedda · 05/11/2007 21:55

Oh, well, i used the leek broth for making my soup so I didn't waste it after all. I added carrots, frozen peas, herbs, spices and garlic cloves in their skins and it was nice. that was my dinner, I'm going to have some more now. Today was a real soup day as i also had tomato soup home made using can tomaoes and vegetales for my lunch. i also had my salad - avocado, tomatoes, cucumber and grapes and some apples and pears for my snack between lunch and dinner. my weight is still the same though. [sad face]

Fimbles5 · 06/11/2007 08:08

Fedda - Even if your weight is remaining the same, which I know doesn't help, you must feel so much better in yourself, as you are eating so fantastically. How are the energy levels - you must be feeling really high. Everything you are eating sounds so healthy, is there a possibility you are cutting out too much?? - I don't know, but I have heard that by cutting out all the fat your metabolism slows down and then you don't lose weight. (How much truth is in this I don't know), but this may be your answer?!

fedda · 06/11/2007 11:49

Hi, Fimbles5, i don't cut out too much as i actually eat skin of chicken or duck when I have my roast and i have semi-skimmed milk, not skimmed. i just have more healthy meals then ever and i do feel more energetic and less tired. I decided to have soups as often as possible because they are so good and tasty and i can experiment and get my fruit and veg, i also increased salads with simple dressing - 1 tbs olive oil, lemon and pepper so you can see i have fat and i have variety, i eat many things but i cut out almost completely buiscuits, sugary cereal, sugary yougurt, cakes, crisps, bread sticks, white bread, white pasta, white rice. I reduced tea and coffee to 3 cups a day (used to have 6), I dance often using my disco records. You know almost every evening i used to have 3 muller yougurts before going to bed! I'm trying really hard. Do you have any good news? I'd love to hear some success stories, i even started a thread but not many people seem to bother replying. I could do with some inspiration.

Fimbles5 · 06/11/2007 15:52

Fedda - My success story I have been holding onto, as I wanted to try and lift your spirits. I know from experience when you are struggling it is very hard to hear how everyone else is doing, but as you asked I managed to hit my first goal of a stone last week. Thats where it ends - here comes my problem, I feel fantastic when I hit that stone, been here before, received the 'you look great' comments, and then I eat and eat and eat and before I know it I'm back to where I started. Already, even though I would like to look fab for Christmas, I am creeping back into bad habits, and I do not know why. I have no explanation for it whatsoever. I DO NOT WANT TO BE FAT, so why can't I eating rubbish

fedda · 06/11/2007 16:20

Fimbles5, i think it's common for people who try to slim to feel geleous if someone else succeed but I'm not. i'm just happy if someone achieves their goal and the more happy people about the better. I'll be grateful to everybody who could tell me what works. Slimmingis not as hard as keeping it long term and i decided if i succeed I'll definately treat myself but not with the food. I think of getting a nice dress, a lovely skirt, a massage - anything which can make me feel nice without guilt. Yes, it's money but we spend money anyway so if i put some money aside and wait for a right moment i can do it - may be a nice haircut as well. There are so many things we can have as a reward without piling back the kg or so. i look at rubblish food as my animy now, not as a temptation. i'm going to have beetroot which i cooked myself chopped up with some apple and walnuts. It's lovely and it's guilt free. I wish you good luck and thank you for sharing your success with me. please, keep posting, Fimbles5.

Fimbles5 · 06/11/2007 17:00

Go Fedda!! - In so many ways I envy you. You sound so positive and most of all confident. The new year could bring a completely new you, so keep up the new healthy regime. When you posted that you had started a new thread I thought I had lost you, I was searching for your thread. I have now realised you probably meant this one and I want to say thankyou, you may not have had many replies but you got me, and without you and your positive vibes I would never have gotten through the last 7/8 weeks. I am here until we are both happy with our success, to offer support where I can. So you keep posting too!!!

fedda · 06/11/2007 17:52

Thank you very much for your kind words, Fimbles5. The thread I've started was www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1378/417425?stamp=071104173735, not this one, this thread was started by Starbear and i'm very grateful to her for this. I hope Starbear will continue posting. I'm not always positive as it's not always possible when whatever i do i don't loose as much as I'd like to. i also tend to loose weight in the face, not in my tummy, I wish it was the other way round. I'm positive when people achieve something and when i see people happy, smiling, that's really inspiring. Thank you again for your kindness and your warm support. I'll keep posting.

fedda · 07/11/2007 10:10

Yesterday i had sald with avocado and grapes for breakfast, soup made with brrtroot which i cooked from raw, cabbage, carrots, herbs and spices, squash which i roasted for 40 minutes and i was eating it's seeds as well, buckweet, which is a cereal and it's very low in colouries and good for us, soup for dinner, snacked on unsweetened and unsalted nuts and had 1 cup of coffee with 2 sugars which i weight - 10 g of sugar and i lost 800g! i didn't feel hungry at all. i'm having my soup today for lunch, i just had some apples for breakfast and I'll have scalops with salad of toms and yellow pepper for dinner. I'll snack on apples and probably have 1 coffee later trying with 1,5 sugars. i don't want to deprive myself too much as i know it wouldn't work long term. How are you all doing?
