Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

join the club, saffycat. Last year an elderly woman wanted to let me first use the loo commenting that in my situation I shouldn't wait! I just said sorry, I'm just fat, not expecting and she was so smbarrased, bless her. I agree, we must do something about it.

Starbear · 20/10/2007 23:20

Having a hard time this week at work and think it will go on next week. On Tuesday I was ready for a real push. Now let myself down. Didn't go to the gym on Wednesday because Mum was ill. Gave up and had pasta and chips for few days. Now I've had Pringles and wine while watching the rugby. Girls, I really need to get back on track.

Starbear - Go back and read my post from 9th October, I was having a really bad time of it, but you all managed to get me through and out the other side. This week I lost the 3lbs that I had managed to put on during my binge week. We all go through the hard times, but the main thing is we get back on track. Don't beat yourself up about what has/is going wrong, just climb back on that wagon! Feeling for you and sending big hugs.
Hope Mum is better soon. X

Starbear · 21/10/2007 22:03

Thank you Fimbles5. Back on track tommorow and keeping to my promise no cakes biscuits etc for a week and see how much I lose.
The Christmas Party at work is on 20th December I really want to work towards that goal. Cheers

The same here.

fedda · 23/10/2007 19:08

It's my bad day today. Started well - lot#s of fruit for breakfast, poriage for lunch but then 2 cans od sardines and 3 buiscuits with coffee! i'm fed up with myself. I've been trying so hard and now this!

Fimbles5 · 23/10/2007 20:25

Right this really is not good. We are all feeling really low about ourselves and the way we eat. It is so hard isn't it? But, don't you just find that when those scales give a good result, we feel so much better about ourselves (even if it is short lived!). So here it is our task, we are all drawing a line under what we have done badly today, yesterday, or even this week. Tomorrow is a new day!! We start a fresh tomorrow (no excuses), and next Wednesday we all weigh in, and we all feel good about ourselves! Lecture over .

fedda · 23/10/2007 21:46

Well, I was good, so good really. I went away and i was eating out holding on to my diet no carbs after 5, no buiscuits, no cakes, no guilty foods, lot's of fruit, never hungry, poriage for breakfast, good quality food for lunch, fish for dinner with vegies and fruit salad for desert without cream or sugar, on rare occasions when I had coffee it was unsweetened and without buiscuits or chocolate, 3 days 30 minutes a day gym and gues what - i haven't lost even a gram! What do you make of that? And after 1 slip today i put on 1 kg! Yes, i waigh myself too much but how can you interpret these results? It's simply awful that i have to be soooo strong and not loose any weight and if I'm weak for once I gain weight before i know it.

fedda · 23/10/2007 21:48

I forgot to say that I was drinking much more water then ever before in my life!

Fimbles5 · 24/10/2007 20:17

fedda - I don't know what to say, feeling very sad for you. I know what you are going through, I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember and have tried every diet in the book. The only thing I can say is perhaps your diet isn't working for you, so maybe you should try something new. You seem to be doing everything right from what you have written so cannot provide an explanation. Have you tried weightwatchers? It works for me, and I could help you with it if you like? Also, if you don't please persevere with what you like and think works, and I will always be here to hopefully try to keep those spirits up. X

fedda · 24/10/2007 21:09

Thank you very much, Fimbles. I noticed one amazing thing - when i get really fed up the next day my weight seems to change. I can't explain how it happens but today I'm slightly lighter then i was resently so this extra kg seems to have gone and I've lost 500g in 4 days! It seems my weight goes up and down and I probably need to stop this weighing for at least 1 week. I do it twice a day! I'd be very grateful for the ideas of WW and any help I'd appreciate. i've never tried their diet. I'm also going to borrow their book from the library but please could you share any tips you;ve found useful and may be recipies you've tried.

Fimbles5 · 25/10/2007 09:25

Fedda - Firstly try not to weigh yourself too often (this is so easy for me to say, as I am like you and weigh myself 2-3 times a day, and then wonder why I feel low - it's not surprising when everything you do revolves around weightloss!!). Even if it means putting the scales out in the shed!! Secondly, I think WW is great, but to follow it you really need the guides. I have let a friend borrow a spare set that I had, but I will ask her whether she is using them and if not will mail them to you. You can get them quite cheap on ebay. Basically you follow a points based programme. You are given a daily allowance of points, and you must only eat that amount. i.e. Bread is 1.5pts. I am sure you get the idea, I will contact my friend and see if she needs the books, and will get back to you. Keep smiling and keep up the good work.

Starbear · 25/10/2007 20:51

No a lot to say at present. Ah except I couldn't stick to my plan of no biscuits or tea. Very tough week at work didn't finish until 9pm. Granted from 5pm til 9pm was working on an application for a new position. Can't do at home because it has to be on internal internet. Now I just thought maybe I could send some it by e-mail home (what a dunce)

Well, I weight myself again and i put on 1,5 kg! i can't understand how one day i can be lighter and the next heavier and I just want to know what my weight is. I can't help it. Even if i weight myself once in 3 weeks it's not going to be acurate as it changes so much! I'm going to the library tomorrow to borrow some books, please don't worry asking your friend, fimbles. It's kind of you but i decided not to worry counting points as i find it depressing. i was searching on the search button for slimming recipies and found some names of people who were slimming on 2004 and they are still trying. It's really so disapointing that nothing seems to work. Why can't we just find the right method which will work say in 6 weeks and we can all be much lighter and healthier? Come on, girls. Let's try something successful and free for a change. Who wants to join me? i just had chilli con carne without rice which i cooked using 1 decert spoon of olive oil and some water, can of chopped toms, fat free minced, lot's of herbs and spices, beans, onion, garlic and red pepper. Didn't use any stock cube just diluted concentrated tomato paste and added to my sauce. Okay, who is next/ We can post recipes, excersise ideas, tips and anything which works.

fedda · 27/10/2007 23:04

What happened to our thread/ Almost noone is posting. Where are you all? Please, don't give up.

Fimbles5 · 28/10/2007 06:49

I haven't given up - just had a manic weekend so haven't been about to post. How are you doing fedda?? Are things any better?

fedda · 28/10/2007 09:34

No, fimbles, my weight is slowly creeping back and I only had 5 buiscuits this week in total. I cook almost everything from scratch and I'm still trying hard, not going to give up and I need you, girls.

Fimbles5 · 28/10/2007 20:50

Cooking from scratch is great - well done you! I am not the best person to advise on recipes, as I am a very plain, boring eater. I tend to cook the traditional meals, spaghetti bolognese, shepherds pie, casseroles etc. I have cut down dramatically on portion size but still eat the same as everyone else. I try to eat slower, and aim to stop eating as soon as I feel full (Paul Mckenna recommends this). This seems to be working for me. Please, please do not give up. I so know how it feels to be on a plateau with weight loss and feel you are getting nowhere. Have you tried taking your measurements? You may find you are losing inches but it is not showing as pounds?

Starbear · 28/10/2007 21:03

Hi fedda, haven't given up just feeling fed-up about work. Put my application in, to work somewhere else, on the supervisor's desk for him to action tomorrow. He's been away and I'll have to phone in, as it's my non working day as they call it. I have put exercise and diet on the back burner while I deal with this. I suppose natural thin people would not have needed copious amount of tea and biscuits while they have extra work on. Client didn't turn up on Friday which was great 'cause I could work on my application.
70 kgs so it's creeping off. Fedda you'll have to stop weighing yourself so much sweetheart. Just start again tomorrow.

Dear fimbles, thank you so much for your support. I did my measuments, no progress there. I'm about to have my soup with carrots, broccoli, frozen peas, 4 unpealed garlic cloves and herbs. Had roast chicken with brussel sprouts and mushrooms, tiny beat of cheese for lunch and quarl with goat's yougurt, some honey and nuts for breakfast. i have a snicky feeling that my tea with jam sweetened with concentrated grape juice instead of sugar and some honey I use instead of sugar doesn't let me slim. i can't give up everything though or shall I?

kidsrus · 29/10/2007 00:15

hiya im back! have you missed me?
i've been camping in devon this week and been to london today for diwalli in the square. they were giving free sari's away and i wore it on the under ground and the eye.
you should have seen the looks i got being 100% british (not quite sure if i was being frowned upon).
going to a halloween party on weds should be fun
what have you all been up to this half term?

Fimbles5 · 29/10/2007 08:08

Welcome back kidsrus - I thought you'd left us. There only appears to be four of us left!! How are you getting on? If your camping expeditions are anything like ours, (fry-ups etc, for breakfast) then I hope you are extremely motivated!! Let us know how things are going as we are all having a bit of a down time of things, and finding it a bit hard.
Fedda - Nobody said dieting was easy, and I always find that I have to give up most of my favourites. My downfalls are crisps and wine, so I have these as a weekly treat on a Saturday, and boy do I look forward to them. Try limiting your tea with jam, even if its every other day, you don't have to cut it out altogether just limit the amount you have. They say making small changes helps, so this may be all you need to get the weight loss moving again.

Fimbles5 · 29/10/2007 08:11

Well done Starbear - keep up the good work, even if its creeping off, this means its moving. The longer it takes to come off the more likely it is to stay off. (Just thought I would state a saying you probably are already aware of ) Well done you.

fedda · 29/10/2007 14:44

Oh, I'm so glad you are back, starbear and kidsrus. i was missing you, girls. i'm going to limit my tea with jam and yesterday i had soup and it helped me feel lighter. i don't put any salt or stock cubes in my soup and i don't even feel it's my sacrifise as it tastes good to me. I'm going to have siup for dinner, no bread with it, I'll just do the same - broccoli, carrots, frozen peas, herbs, no potatoes and have it freely in the evening. I think I'll just increase the water including hot water for my drinks and include soup as often as i can, no crisps, no buiscuits, no cakes and reasonable portions of food, see what happens.

kidsrus · 29/10/2007 22:33

we can do it.
lets all get carving those pumpkins and have pumpkin soup/casserole/stew/pie/ and cake (maybe).
Lets all make a promise this week
i promise to try porridge this week with soup/salad for dinner and roast/boiled/steamed veg for tea.
I promise to avoid crisps and jack daniels with coke (opps) i was on holiday and only put on 2lb
its 7 weeks to christmas where we can have these things again for a week or 2 so come on girls lets fast!
