glitter--- glad to hear it!!
bran--- well done!! holiday and weight loss!!

the years ago I tried slimfast it was vile!! and the bar was terrible, I remember a serries a while ago followed some slimmers on different diets, the woman on slimfast actually cried when she had her meal cos it tasted so bad and thats all she could have, she tried the meals and said they were really bad.

monkeygirl · 21/10/2004 11:04

Oh stop trying to make excuses - weight loss is weight loss so well done Bran! Holiday sounded lovely although I must admit I don't know where Langkawi is.

I have to confess that there was one flavour of Slimfast that I actually liked - I think it was the vanilla one, but WWB and Champs, you are right, it was a bit like a slow death even when I tried it once for about 2 days. That wasn't a meal it was a snack drink! Told you I was desperate though! Oh and WWB - my mantra worked - until about 6pm . But it was only 1 treat size bar - oh alright, 2 . But today I feel confident cos I am sick to death of the clothes I wear and really really need to fit into the ones I used to wear before babies (and even then I need to go some). But I have a goal now - another reunion next June with old college friends who saw me at my worst last weekend. New mantra: 'goals will lead you to a new self' (yes I do make this s**t up myself I'm afraid!)

champs · 21/10/2004 12:20

lol!! I too am fed up with my tents... i mean clothes. this time next year we WILL be in better stuff!!!

glitterfairy · 22/10/2004 09:44

Whoa there Guys guys. I like my clothes and I love myself! I love the way I look and although I would like to be slimmer for comforts sake I am not ashamed of myself in the slightest. Fat women can be beautiful too you know!

Hear, hear Glitterfairy! I'm with you there.

I brought Tim Tams back from Sydney for the office crowd and I've had TWO Tim Tam explosions . Before you whip me though, I did count the points first (3.5 for two), but it does mean that I've fallen off the chocolate wagon. If I have cravings for chocolate tomorrow then I think I'll just have to give up completely again, but if I don't then perhaps I'll be able to have chocolate once every couple of weeks without ill effects.

MG, Langkawi is a small island off the west coast of Malaysia, it's really, really beautiful. Why do you want to do Slimfast? Seems a bit punishing to me, although I've never tried it, but it doesn't teach you to improve your diet and lifestyle does it, so won't you just put the weight back on when you start eating again?

BTW - did everyone else know that TraceyP is now WigWamBam? I was wondering how you were getting on, hope it's going well.

monkeygirl · 22/10/2004 15:31

GF - of course you are absolutely right but you are very lucky you that you are happy in your skin - I blame my parents for hatred of my body but that's another story! I really really hate my clothes cos I have only bought a few bits since the big weight gain as I always vowed I was going to get back into (yeah right) my other clothes, partly due to lack of cash and partly cos I liked them (and I have never been less than a size 14 in my teenage/adult life). But now I am desperate to have some different ones, not just because it covers all the bits I don't like (pretty much total body coverage then!) but because I like them. I too want to lose weight cos I feel so unhealthy, my back is weakening and I want to try and not die prematurely for my kids' sake. And I'd love to get back to running in the gym without passing out and my knees giving out. Oh and I don't want to sweat like a pig in summer! Oh my, I do go on don't I?

Bran - I don't think I really want to do Slimfast, I'm just searching around for a drastic kick-start cos I am not succeeding at all atm despite having some of the best motivation in the world.

WWW - welcome back in your new guise! I don't want to drag any of that awful business up again but just wanted to say glad you are back and have you been to that party yet - you dirty wench ?

champs · 22/10/2004 15:43

ok glitter!! I must admit, I do love your attitude about yourself, I will try ... I promise.
Bran--- Tim Tams!! the australian ones seem to taste better than the ones here iirc. There choc tastes diff too.... no vegetable oil.
WWB--- didn't know u were tp!! so glad you're back and didn't stay away.

bran · 22/10/2004 16:24

The thing is Monkeygirl, if you're feeling miserable and hating yourself then you're more likely to need comfort and to eat. If you then punish your body by starving it then not only will you be craving the comfort of food even more, but you will be weakened by hunger so once you stop you will probably just stuff yourself. As far as I know people who go on very severe diets often end up putting back on more than they have lost. I think LighterLife may be an exception to this as they provide lots of psycological support and make you face up to the reasons you over-eat in the first place, but Woodpops would be able to tell you more about that. I think you have to love yourself before you lose the weight or you might never lose it because you will always be wanting to comfort yourself with food. If you love yourself then you will want to make yourself as healthy as you can be and it will be easier to make a long-term change to a healthy diet.

Have you considered any other diets? There are plenty that aren't too faddy and are very healthy. Even if you do go on Slimfast you might find it easier if you set a time-scale (like a week) and then have your diet planned for when you come off Slimfast so that you don't binge.

WigWamBam · 22/10/2004 16:30

Hi Monkeygirl - no, haven't been to the party yet but I am off tonight to the launch of a nude calendar that I did some shots for a couple of months ago. Still working on the costume. I tried to stay away but couldn't, thought I'd lurk a bit and then posted some stuff on the more uncontentious threads, I wasn't going to admit to it being me, but people have been so nice and I've had so many lovely messages that I thought it would be wrong of me not to come clean. I think people deserve to know who they're talking to - and now I'm feeling a bit better, I thought now was the time to come clean.

bran · 22/10/2004 16:42

WWB were you in front of or behind the camera for the nude calendar? If you were in front of the camera then don't worry about the costume, just use the one you had for the photo shoot .

monkeygirl · 22/10/2004 16:44

WWB - don't know why you are apologising, just hope you can stay and enjoy yourself on MN and dodge the flying s**t that occasionally whizzes by . I'm a boring occasional-poster-on-uncontentious-threads, mainly cos other people say it so much better sometimes and cos there is definitely some 'baiting' that goes on (although it can be fun to read as long as it is not spiteful or hurtful to anyone!). Enjoy your calendar launch - is it on 'general' release then?

Bran - yes you too are right - seriously I could do with some psycological help and have thought about hypnosis or something. I know what a healthy diet is and how to lose weight (I bet most long-termers do) but, like I said, have deep-rooted 'issues' which are messing with my poor old head! I have asked Woodpops about Lighterlife and am still thinking about it but I do not thrive under heavy restrictions and have previously lost weight through portion control and exercise. I just need that kick-start. So can you all give me a good kicking please!

WigWamBam · 22/10/2004 16:50

Bran, I was in front of the camera, and all I had to protect my modesty was a tea-pot (which when you're 46G is quite a feat).

Monkeygirl - stick that butt out so I can reach with my size 8s ... I think you're right, we all know how to lose weight, but sometimes psychologically it's not so easy, is it.

monkeygirl · 22/10/2004 16:53

Kick away (it's a good target!) but please can I be let off tonight as I have just given up bfing and am going to get properly p**d with my mate tonight for the first time since last year!

bran · 22/10/2004 17:04

If you know what you should be eating then why not write down everything you eat (weighing things if necessary), it'll probably become obvious where you're going wrong. I find since starting WW that just knowing I have to write things down puts me off eating them, I usually try to write it down before eating it so that I can see how many points I have left for the day, rather than eating something and then discovering I'm out of points.

Alternatively, you could follow the plate division thing, where you have 1/4 of your plate each with protein and carbohydrate and 1/2 your plate with vegetables for every meal (except breakfast, which should still be healthy). Then if you're still hungry fill your plate again with vegetables only. Have a snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon which is low-fat and sugar free (fruit/nuts/seeds/rice cakes), and a small dessert after dinner (fun-size choc, ice-lolly). You have to be a bit organised because you have to take your snacks with you but it's not draconian.

YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU.

Lol bran, I'll have a go. Dh is joining me as he has some weight to lose so it should make things easier. How are your choccy cravings btw? I had none yesterday which is the first time I have done that in months (unfortunately it's what I craved most when pregnant/bfing.

Essbee - I may be wrong but you seem to be eating not very much and not losing weight? Maybe you could try eating 5/6 small meals a day to stimulate your metabolism and an extra walk or running up and down some stairs a day to help rev it up a bit as well? Some protein is good (although don't think I could manage raw marinated salmon - do you do that yourself then??). But just a mixed crunchy salad - that ain't much - add a bit of cooked chicken or tuna next time? I also remember reading once that a handful of nuts a day helped a group in a research project to lose weight, and walnuts especially are a 'superfood'. Good luck!

champs · 24/10/2004 17:03

hi all!! all of you sound so motivated. I am not too motivated right now. feel lousy. G;itter, where's that whip??!!
esbee!! hi!! do you have a realy busy life? or hectic? the only time I eat very little is if the day is hectic, I then end up having a night time splurge tho. Pinapple is a good weight loss booster.
Agree with MG, smaller meals may help. Do you try not to eat or do you really not feel hungry? sounds like you have a very small appetite. has it always been like that? (tell me to bog off if too nosey)

Glitter---hope you are feeling better.
October--- how are you?

monkeygirl · 25/10/2004 17:22

Bran - I feel like I've been caught downloading porn . Don't worry, I will not be adding breadmaker to my Christmas list this year. And I have so far been good today (no choc even bought at the supermarket). And I discovered skinny cow lollies - yum. The one I had was like choc mousse on a stick and only 79 cals and low fat so that's my dessert sorted out for a few days then.

Champs - how are you feeling today? Better I hope.

It's not a crime to look, Monkeygirl - virtual food has no calories!

bran · 25/10/2004 17:44

I feel like your worst nightmare head mistress. You may both have bread if you want, so long as it's wholemeal and spread with low-fat spread (Philadelphia extra light is good).

My dh has been trying to persuade me that we need a breadmaker, and I suppose it would be ok so long as I continue to weigh the bread that I'm eating. Perhaps I'll get him one for Christmas, but I suspect it will be just another kitchen gadget that gets used for a month and then sits in the cupboard until it gets thrown out when we move house.

Everyone at WW raves about those Skinny Cows monkeygirl, I must try them some time although I've never really been into ice-cream.

Essbee, do you eat breakfast? For most of my life I was anti-breakfast, but I started eating it about 18 months ago and it really does make a difference to my energy levels.

How are you feeling GF and Champs? Are you just down or are you both getting viruses? I have a seal-bark cough at the moment, I always get a cough in Kuala Lumpur, I think it's from going from humid heat to cold air-conditioning and back.
